Scream

The cold night air flew by the faces of many people at the carnival. It was October 31st, Halloween night. Alex Trigger felt himself shiver slightly, the cold fall air traveling through the breeze. His black hair, blowing in the wind, looked like the night background behind him. The carnival in front of Alex was just as rowdy as ever, with stalls set up to test children's reflexes with shooting ranges. Feeling something gripping his hand tightly, Alex looked down to see his small brother, Brian Trigger, shivering. He was only seven years old, and unlike Alex with his midnight black hair, he had light blond hair that reflected off the lights from the carnival. Alex was ten years older.

"Can't we go home? I hate scary things." Brian said, gripping Alex's hand even tighter as a clown walked by crackling manically.

"Come on, don't be such a wussy. These are just people dressed up. Are you sure you're ready to go through the Werewolf Cave?" Alex said while grinning, and pointing to a neon red sign that said "Werewolf Cave" The W was slightly ajar. Hopefully, the people who made the sign meant to do that.

Alex knew most of the people on the "Werewolf Cave" ride. He also knew every knook and cranny that was involved in the ride, where the people stand to jump out and scare you, and where all the people throw decapitated heads through your path. Though, it still gave him the creeps, even when Alex was standing far away from the entrance to the ark that led into what some kids call "hell on earth." Just like how the ride was called "Werewolf's Cave" it was literally in a cave. The cave they set up for the carnival was 10,000 years old which was said to be young to most geologists.

A werewolf that looked surprising real was bellowing at the entrance, "Boys and girls of every age! Would you like to see something strange?" He had a menacing grin while he said these words. The man had silver fur, and piercing red eyes.

"It has to be a suit." Alex thought as he started to walk closer and closer to the entrance. The werewolf made eye contact with Alex and Brian, eyeing them up, seeing which one would be better prey. Alex looked behind him to see other people shuffling forward. "At least I am not the one having second thoughts." Alex thought.

Alex was not usually the one to be scared at these kinds of events, but something inside him was quivering in fear. Was it his mind playing tricks on him? Alex sighed and started to walk closer, starting to grow in confidence with every stride to the werewolf that was dressed up.

"How much to get in?" Alex asked the man in costume.

"Free."

Alex heard his voice from up close. It was low and menacing. It was more of a growl than anything else.

"Alright, thank you."

Alex looked down to his little brother Brian to see his legs were starting to move frantically.

"No problem, have fun and don't get lost." The werewolf added while showing a very nasty grin. Even his fangs looked real from Alex's point of view.

Alex, with Brian holding even more tightly this time on Alex's arm, started to walk into the cave. The cold air flew by them, and the cave had a dark atmosphere. Alex lifted up his hand to see that he could barely see the back of his hand. Then he heard something, a growl of some sort. Jetting out of the darkness in the cave, two glowing orange eyes made their way to Alex's vision. A few gasps rang out from behind as people noticed the eyes also, and Brian flinched as if waiting for a jolt of lightning to come from the sky. Alex, thinking that he would not be scared once during the ride, felt his heart skip a beat.

Something started to move throughout the walls of the cave, and around the hard, wet surface of the cave. Then Alex felt something move below him. Was it something that was trying to pull him in? Alex yelled loudly, and closed his eyes. A loud click rang through the cave, and Alex realized he was standing on a switch that activated only when you stood on it. The switch controlled a tiny light on the top of a cave.

A loud sigh rang from the group as they realized that the switch only controlled the light. Brian started to laugh loudly. "You should have seen your face!" He said pointing. Alex scowled at Brian and he quickly stopped laughing, and started to stare into the darkness. Alex could tell that the look on his brother's face that something was up. Alex started to look everywhere, the light on the top of the cave flickering as Alex kept lifting his foot slightly upward. Shadows looked like they were coming out of the cave walls, each one grabbed a person and left until no one was left except Alex, standing there in the cave alone, defenseless, and scared. Then something crackled in a very low tone. A chill was sent down Alex's spine.

"I thought you said you weren't scared?" The voice mocked. Alex could tell whoever it was; they were enjoying messing with his conscious. Alex didn't say anything; he just kept his foot on the switch, letting the small amount of light pour over the cave walls.

The voice started to laugh again. "If you want to see your brother again, I suggest you keep continuing through this cave."

"And if I don't?" Alex said. Alex started to grin. This was probably just another practical joke.

"You die."

Alex felt like a bullet hit him in the chest. "Is this some kind of joke?" Alex yelled, panic surging inside his chest.

"Just continue in the cave."

Alex heard a click as the voice went silent. "He must have been using the intercoms to communicate." Alex thought. He had to analyze his situation. Otherwise, it would cost the lives of more than his brother. It would cost the life of everybody that went into this suicide cave.

Alex slowly let his foot off the platform to be back into total darkness. Good thing he had his cell phone. He quickly pulled it out, and checking to make sure he had service if something went wrong, he was surprised when he saw that his phone didn't even have service. "I am in a cave." Alex thought as he used the cell phone like a flashlight. He shined the light over the cave, and almost hit his head on some low ledges. Then he noticed something.

Some paint was missing on a part of the cave. He took his hand, and ran it over the smooth service to feel it was not real. He started to hit the wall of the cave, moving his hits closer and closer toward the part that had missing paint. The sound started out as echoes, the cave wall making sounds back to him, but then he hit the part of the wall with the missing paint. A sound rang across the cave that sounded like someone hitting a hollow tree. Alex leaned down to feel that air was coming from the other side. The wall was fake.

Alex started to move backward, and with all his strength, he kicked the wall. The wall made a bursting sound, and Alex noticed that the wall fell over. It was a door on hinges, unnoticeable without light. Alex shined his cell phone forward to show that the cave kept going deeper and deeper. Hearing the sound of water moving down rocks, Alex started to use his sense of hearing. He started to move deeper until Alex saw a fresh water river moving through the cave. It had many pennies and nickels thrown in. It was turned from a simple river to a wishing well. The river must come from the other path that Alex should have followed if he had not kicked open the fake door.

Alex started to follow the narrow path further and deeper into the cave. Then he noticed a prop that looked discarded and battered. It must have not been part of the "Werewolf's Cave." It was a knight in shining armor, holding a small dagger out in front of him. Unlike props with fake daggers so no one gets hurt, this one was real. The knight even had a sheath down by his side where the small dagger was supposed to be placed. The sheath was a blue color with golden trim. It looked wonderful, shimmering in the torch light. Alex reached out, and took the knife from the knight's grasp. It felt cold, and the grip was rough enough to have a good grip. Alex took the sheath from the knight's side and felt how heavy it was. It was a metal casing, good if you want to use the sheath as a weapon itself.

Alex felt himself shiver. This was a weapon that killed many people and creatures during the medieval ages. Now it was in his hands. Alex moved the weapon in a slashing motion to get the feel of the blade. For some reason, it felt as if it was calling him. He quickly shook off the fact, and moved further into the cave with a knife in his hand.

As Alex started to see light, he realized that what he was staring at were torches. Alex took one from the cave, and started to get even better light then his cell phone. He slowly put his cell phone in his pocket again. It felt like he was being watched.

Walking closer towards the light, Alex felt himself holding back a scream at what he saw. The man that greeted Alex and Brian at the entrance was sitting on a chair with other people in wolf costumes standing in front of him. He knew this was all just a joke. Alex started to laugh loudly. The werewolves quickly turned around, their fur standing up on their backs.

"A human?"

"Why is there a human here?"

"Is this a joke?" The werewolf's said looking at each other than back to the guy they were all circled around. Alex quickly stopped laughing, realizing the mistake he made. The scared expressions of the werewolf have made it seem like this was not a joke.

"Umm, this is a joke right?" Alex croaked as he started to walk forward with the blade in hand. The werewolf in the middle slowly pushed the other werewolves surrounding him out of the way, and started to laugh.

"Is this a joke?" The werewolf said grinning and he snapped his claws. The werewolves standing by him started to part, and right behind the werewolf that snapped his fingers were the unconscious bodies of the people who entered the cave, each one lying down silently behind the wolf. Alex quickly realized the seriousness of the situation.

"I didn't even think werewolves existed?" Alex said as he looked to all the wolves standing on two legs in front of him. One was red, another black, another green, and the werewolf that snapped his fingers was silver. Alex could tell that the silver one was the leader.

"I didn't think werewolves existed either, until I was bit by one on this same night. The man who bit me raised me, made me into what I am now, a leader of one of the biggest werewolf packs. We had to live in solitude, away from the society that you humans have become acquainted to."

The silver wolf paused, waiting for an answer from Alex, but it never came. "Now we are being hunted by our own kind. Saying our way is too "reckless" to find other recruits. We basically do what we do now. We find a place where you humans go, and then we kidnap you. If you do not agree with our ways...."

He took a claw and ran it past his throat. "You die."

Alex shivered. "If I don't stop this guy, he will bite everybody and who knows what he will do if someone rebels." Alex thought to himself.

"Course, the man who raised me to this form doesn't agree with my ways...." The silver werewolf said while walking forward toward Alex. The werewolf kept walking until Alex and he were toe to toe and eye to eye. Alex could feel the hot breath coming from the wolf.

"His name is Rise and he is against my idea for using humanity as a source of recruitment. He says that humanity should only join us if they want to. That we are all equal, but I disagree. I believe werewolves are better then EVERYBODY!" The werewolf said while showing in fangs in anger.

"This is my display for what werewolves can do to humanity and people who defy my pack." The werewolf said as he pointed back at the unconscious people behind him. "This will be a lesson for Rise and his views. It will also be a scar on the surface of the earth and a declaration of war between us and the world!"

Alex starred into the werewolf's red eyes, looking for a sign of sympathy that was not there. This werewolf hated society; he hated the world, and now was going to try to change it.

"What happens if I get in your way?" Alex said, trying to intimidate the werewolf. "This probably won't work very well." Alex thought as he tried to make himself seem taller.

The werewolf grinned and the werewolves behind him started to laugh loudly. "You and what army?" The silver werewolf said while starring into Alex's eyes, looking for a sign of weakness.

"This army." A man said behind Alex and stared to walk forward. Except one thing, he was not a man, but a beast. He was a werewolf with yellow fur and white strips in different places. His figure was lean and muscular, while his eyes were as yellow as his fur.

"RISE!? How the hell did you get here!?" The silver werewolf said loudly, his voice echoing through the cave.

"That boy's knife. I put it in a prop a while back to track down any evil werewolf activity. Apparently it's just as well that he found it. Now we can settle this once and for all." Rise said while looking towards me.

The silver werewolf grinned, "This was basically a suicide mission for you. You are only one person. You cannot possibly win against my three best warriors on my tribe." The silver wolf signaled to the other werewolves and they showed their fangs angrily.

Alex gulped. He was right in the middle of a giant conflict. "On the contrary, for I have other werewolves with me."

All of a sudden, a woman with a purple tank top and black pants came storming into the cave. "Sorry I was late. I had some business to take care of boss." She was not the full werewolf form because she had a white tail with a long purple strip going down it. She had piercing black eyes, and her black hair moved softly back and forth. She was holding a .22 magnum and a small saber like dagger in the other. She looked like she just walked out of World War two. Her eyes matched the stripe on her tail. They were a deep purple.

"Fine, Sphinx, but where is Quin?" Rise said while looking around for his other companion. Alex was just starring at Rise then back at the silver werewolf to see he was enraged.

Coming from behind the half-werewolf named Sphinx, Quin ran up from behind. He was also a half werewolf, wearing a loose fitting dark red tee shirt that said "bite me" and a pair of spectacles in between his two silver eyes. His hair was orange and untidy which matched his somewhat skinny figure. He was wearing a silver necklace with a cross imprinted on the bottom. A long white tail jetted out of his pants, and it was wagging as he ran forward. He had no weapons or gear of any sort. Alex started to wonder how Quin was going to defend himself if a 300 pound werewolf ran towards him at full speed.

"Sorry I am late also Rise. Somebody tripped on my way to the cave!" Quin said as he looked over to Sphinx scowling.

"I did not! I told you about the rock in the middle of the cave, but you did not listen!"

"Ha, I doubt it. You probably just wanted me out of the way so you could get to first!"

"I said I told you about the rock. I must have been hallucinating when I thought I felt someone grabbing my ankle for life." Sphinx said while shooting back a just as equal nasty face.

Rise was sighing, and shaking his head. Alex was in shock because if this was the group that was going to "save" him, they better think of a plan fast.

"Will both of you just focus!" Rise said loudly as he separated the two. The silver werewolf leader was too busy holding back laughter. The werewolves in the back were howling with laughter, literally.

Alex started to fully remember the situation he was in. He was surrounded by a bunch of full grown werewolves in the middle of a war. His brother was knocked unconscious, and could be forced to becoming one of the werewolves himself. Alex realized he was also in a predicament. The silver leader of the group of werewolves was standing almost RIGHT by him. He could easily take him as hostage which was the next move the silver werewolf was about to take.

The werewolf's red eyes moved over to Alex, "Come here human!" And he reached out to grab Alex. The werewolf's grasp brushed Alex's shirt, and Alex divided out of the way, but the werewolf expected that. Charging full speed at Alex, the werewolf grabbed Alex around the neck. Alex was now defenseless and helpless.

"Now, let's end this little game. If you don't back off, the human becomes food for our tribe." The werewolf said while smiling at his triumphant catch. Alex could feel the werewolf's furry arm tightening around his neck. The werewolf leaned over by Alex's ear and whispered, "You probably taste so good." Alex felt something around his ear. It felt like a worm was moving inside of his brain. Alex quickly realized that it was no worm at all; it was the werewolf's tongue. Alex started to struggle only to find that the werewolf's grip around his neck just got stronger. Alex started to lose all hope and stopped struggling.

"There, there. No hope for you if you wiggle. I will squash you like the bug you are." The werewolf said taunting Alex.

"That's it, I'm going to die." Alex thought, but then he felt something down by his waist, that was connected to his pants. The object was the sheath for the dagger that Alex found being held by the knight. The blue case with the golden trim had a dagger inside of it, capable to come out at the owners will. Alex nearly leaped in joy, except that he had the pressure of the ocean deep around his neck.

Alex started to slowly move his hand toward the dagger, making sure that the werewolf did not notice. Alex looked over to see Rise looking from the silver wolf back to Alex and then whispered something to Quin's ear then back to Sphinx. They both nodded in agreement and grinned.

"Hey Wind." Quin said as he walked forward to see Alex desperately trying to escape the grasp of the silver werewolf named Wind.

"Don't call me that!" Wind hissed back while moving his fangs over towards Alex's shoulder. "Remember the situation you are in half-breed!"

Quin seemed to take offense to this statement. "I am about as full of a wolf as any of you!"

"Prove it then." Wind said, challenging Quin's statement.

Quin's angry look turned into more of a grin. "Watch and learn then." Quin looked Alex straight in the eyes, and Alex could feel Quin's deep silver eyes piercing through his very figure. Quin then focused deeply on Alex, not letting off site of his eyes.

Alex could hear a voice in the back of his mind. "When I make the whole room dark, that is your signal to take out the knife. Aim for the heart."

Alex winked. It was the only signal he could make that he heard the voice without being caught.

"Darkness."

Quin's necklace started to glow silver light. The necklace swayed violently back and forth as a cold cave wind blew through the cave. Alex could feel the wind wrap around him, engulfing him in a tornado of a wind. Feeling Wind's claw sink into his neck, Alex started to feel dizzy. He knew what he had to do.

"NOW!" Yelled Quin as he then moved his hands in a swooshing motion. All the torches went out like the sound of fizz leaving a soda can. That was Alex's time to move his plan in motion. Taking the blade out of the sheath, he grabbed it with his right hand and slashed though the air, aiming randomly for an important organ. Alex could tell he hit something of vital importance, because when he felt the blade sink into something, a loud yelp was heard throughout the cave.

In the background, Alex could hear the yells of many people fighting and the sound of claws hitting flesh. Alex didn't know where he was, he was blinded in the darkness. The werewolves could probably see what was going on when their eye site adjusted, but Alex couldn't. He now had to rely on other senses beside sight. Alex could hear other wolves clawing and snarling at each other. Gunshots were heard and muzzle flashes lit up the cave as Sphinx shot in darkness.

Concentrating on his other senses, Alex started to get to know his surroundings. Many wolfs were fighting in the background, but he knew that Quin, Sphinx, and Rise would hold their ground, even though he knew them for a short period of time, he had confidence in them.

Alex then heard a shuffling of feet, and claws hitting rocks. A scraping sound like nails on a chalk board rang out across the cave. He could tell that it was not one of his own because it was running towards him at a staggering speed. Alex could hear the footsteps coming closer and closer until Alex could feel someone's wet breath against his neck. Alex tried to yell, but couldn't as the werewolf's body crashed into his. It was almost like being tackled by a train. Alex was so surprised about his misjudgment that he dropped the dagger. Its metallic structure rolled across the cave until it was out of reach. And so were Alex's hopes of escaping.

"It's a shame that now I will have to kill you."

It was Wind's voice. Wind was now in control of Alex's destiny. He could do anything he wanted at this moment. Alex was lying on his back with Wind on his stomach. Nothing Alex could do could shake off a 300 pound beast. Alex could hear Wind bringing up his hand with the sword like claws, ready to finish him off. He could hear the whoosh as Wind brought down a swipe. It went right across Alex's chest, and hearing the tear of his shirt, Alex knew the claws would make contact. Alex yelled out in pain as the claws ripped through his shirt. He felt hopeless, as if nothing could happen to help him out.

Looking over where Alex heard the knife fall to the ground, Alex wished the knife would teleport back to him. He started to think extremely hard about the knife and imagined the knife flying his hand, close enough to grab hold of it and hit the werewolf. This time, Alex would promise he would not miss.

Then, out of the blue, Alex could tell the knife was picked up off the ground, but by whom? There were no foot steps to signal a person, but how was the knife being picked up? Alex then heard a voice.

"Light."

It was Quin's voice. Quin must have figured it was long enough to be fighting in darkness. Alex looked around when the torches were lit to see that all six of Wind's werewolves were on the ground, and not moving. They may have taken a hit, but at a brutal price. Quin looked terrible; his tee shirt had a claw mark going down the side in a horizontal fashion. Sphinx looked just as bad with bruises marking her body. She did not look as badly hurt though, and wiped off the dust as if it was nothing. Rise was untouched. He had enough combat experience to destroy each wolf that ran at him.

Then Alex saw the glare. It was the knife and it was flying at him like a high speed train. Alex outstretched his hand, ready to catch the knife as it was flying in midair. The blade did a 360 in midair to reveal the rough grip. Grabbing the flying knife in his hand, Alex focused on the werewolf's most important organ, his heart.

"You are not getting away this time." And before Wind could react, a dagger was stabbed into the werewolf. Wind howled in pain and got up off Alex. He started to move backward, and fell limp when he hit the cave wall. Alex tried to get up, but felt a pulling motion at his chest. He remembered something, the wound were Wind hit him was still fresh. He was making it worse by moving.

Alex took a hand, and put it on his chest, putting pressure on the large cut. Alex sat upright and felt something surge within him. He looked over to Wind to see his was grinning.

"You did well for a kid, defeating a werewolf like me." Wind rasped. This was going to be his last conversation.

"Shut up. Don't talk to me like we are friends." Alex said, thinking that he was being mocked.

The werewolf tried to laugh, but then it turned into a cough. "No, when a werewolf beats another, honor takes the best of anger. This is why I hate humans. They are so ignorant."

Wind coughed again and wrapped one of his hands around the dagger in his upper chest. "You probably want this back." With a sickening tear, the knife was dialogued from the wolf's chest and Wind threw it toward Alex. It landed on the ground by Alex's feet.

Then Alex realized something. "What do you mean by another werewolf? I am human."

"Not anymore." Wind said while raising a shaking finger towards Alex's chest. "You were hit by me. It does not take a bite to become a werewolf like in the movies. You're one of us now. That is, if you don't bleed out." The werewolf said as he started to close his eyes slowly.

"You humans may be something I hate, but you show great courage. Perhaps I can abide for that." Wind said. Quin, Sphinx, and Rise were all silent while Alex and Wind talked. Not even a drop of water fell from the top of the cave walls onto the hard rock bellow.

Quin got up and walked over to Alex, leaning down to try to patch up the wound. "Hold still, this will feel weird. You will probably have a nasty scar when this is done."

Quin put both his hands on Alex's chest where the cut was and closed his eyes. His necklace started to glow, but this time with a golden color. Alex felt the claw wound closing and the small dots of dried blood disappear. Alex felt his chest healing. It was like the event never even happened.

"Thanks." Alex said to Quin. "Is there any way we can save Wind so he gets a trial by your kind?"

Quin smiled, "Unfortunately, we do not have a stable government. Hell, I doubt we even have a government. I also cannot repair organs that are beyond repair and healing."

Alex nodded and looked over to Wind who had his eyes closed. He was still breathing heavily.

Finally, taking in his last breath, Wind said, "I really hate humans." His head fell to the side and he went limp as a board. His chest stopped moving. He was dead, and the carnage stopped.

"You did good human, or should I say, werewolf." Sphinx said as she walked up to Alex and gave him a hard hit on the shoulder.

"That was better than anything I ever saw." Rise said loudly from the other side of the cave.

Alex felt some questions arise from his deepest subconscious. "How did the knife levitate in the air?" Alex said as he pondered on how he thought he could lift the knife and it happened.

Rise answered him, "Each werewolf has a power that he can wield. Some werewolves bend nature to their will. Others use the shadows as a hiding place. Some can even disappear if they are skilled enough. Yours is telekinesis."

"But I am not a werewolf."

"You are when you got a huge cut across your chest." Rise said while pointing to Alex's chest.

"So what happens now?" Alex asked curiously.

"You transform."

This time it was Quin answering Alex. Alex shivered at the thought of how he would. Would he have to go through some test? Would he have to get cut again just to make sure he transformed?

"How does this happen?"

"You'll see." Rise said while grinning.

Alex started to feel a throbbing within him, like a beast wanting to be released from a cage. He started to feel power in his legs, and looked down to see his legs were growing in diameter and muscle. His chest started to carve itself into a better shape. Alex went on all fours. He felt fur crawling over his newly shaped body, and embracing him in warmth.

Alex's nose formed into a muzzle, and his teeth started to be replaced with fangs. Alex's pants ripped, and a new appendage formed, his new tail. Alex felt power in his arms, and flexed his muscles as his hands started to turn to paws. Alex let out a howl that shook the cave walls.

He was now a fully transformed werewolf, and was able to join the ranks of the others. Alex started to walk around in his new body; working the ups and downs until eventually he could maneuver easier than ever. He was faster than any human, stronger than any human, and could take on any human in a one on one battle. Nothing would get in his way now.

Alex moved his paw over towards his dagger and concentrated. The dagger floated out of the sheath and Alex moved it around.

"Getting used to you telepathic powers?" Rise said while chuckling.

Alex nodded. "What are we going to do about the civilians?"

"Well, your brother will be hauled off back home, and will be told the news of you becoming a werewolf. If he wishes to join, he is more than welcome too. Are you sure your ok with this?"

Alex nodded, "Even though I was changed physically, I am still a human. I wish to help."

"It's settled than."

Alex, Rise, Sphinx, and Quin all walked out of the cave together, getting a new pack member while making a few new friends on the way. Hopefully, Brian won't mind.
