#10 of After Dark

The elevator journey took several minutes. Issac wrapped an arm around Louis, supporting the wolf, earning him a wry grin. The tiger merely smirked. "You've been there for me. I'm here for you now."

Louis nodded quietly, and they both watched the dial slowly mark their passage down into the ark below. "What do you think it's going to be like?" Louis said, in a hushed whisper. Issac merely shrugged.

"They've... Our people... have had advanced technology since before the dark ages. I mean, imagine what humans would have if the church hadn't destroyed all scientific advances during that time? We'd be living in something like the jetsons... I can imagine, but I'd be lying if I had any real clue about what's down there." he shrugs. "Don't forget, they have magic too."

Louis wrinkled his nose. "I don't like the idea of calling them our people just yet. Just because they created us..." he sighed and shrugged. "I guess, Maybe? Who knows." the tiger squeezed him close.

The elevator stopped, and dinged before the door opened to reveal a wooden platform... and the light of a magnificent sunset shining into the elevator. They both walked out and stood, gaping at the scene in front of them.

A forest stretched before them. Rolling hills of green as far as the eye could see, the sunset was magnificent. They both gaped at it, then down to the trees below. A lake stretched out ahead of them. Tree houses melded in to the forest. As lights slowly started coming on, the scope of the city around them started to become apparent. You couldn't see it at all during the light.

"Of course... what else would our home look like?" Louis breathed. Issac found tears in his eyes.

"I thought you said you didn't like the idea?" he said, with a quavering voice, and Louis looked to him.

"When have you ever felt like this before?" he swallowed, and looked back out. "I've dreamed of this place..." he breathed. "Every time I went camping with dad, I imagined this place..." Issac nodded, rubbing his eyes.

"So did I."

Elizabeth stepped out from a shadow by the lift. "It's been a long time, but you've both been here before... when you were very young." she said, softly. "And it is your home. For now and ever more. Will you help me save it?" She asked, "We need you both more than I can really explain. We have so little time, and there is so much to do."

They both spoke at the same time. "We'll help." And looked to eachother with a grin. Elizabeth merely grinned.

"Good. This way." She said, walking them over to a clear set of double doors, behind which a small transit pod appeared. They both gaped at it. "It looks just like the ones down at metro." he said, and she nodded. "We designed and made them, then sold them to the city. Since we can manufacture this stuff without any manual labor at all, we can underbid most human contractors. Where do you think all the money you guys get comes from?"

Louis and Issac both shrugged, and the Wolf stared at her for a moment. "So where are we going now?" He finally asked, peering at her.

She grinned. "Your first day of class... After you two go through there." She indicated a set of doors set to one side, marked with the familiar man in a triangle motif. Underneath it was also a stylized diaper. "You'll find all the supplies you need, too."

Issac whined.
