Chapter 10.

The two continued to cook their meal, which to John's dismay took even longer to finish as Marcus decided to flip the half cooked, sunny side up egg, and ended up with what people would call the results as an 'Epic fail.' So after the two worked together to clean up the innocently murdered ovum, they cooked for about ten more minutes until they had enough to eat. John could eat about...two or three eggs max, and three sausage links, but Marcus, Jesus Christ... he didn't know a wolf could eat so much! So of course, the smaller human finished his food first and watched in mid-horror-fascination as the behemoth in front of him devoured the bountiful amount of food that they had produced not even fifteen minutes ago.

They decided not to eat in silence, since both knew that that would make things REALLY awkward. They just spoke of pretty much random things, both didn't really have a topic to talk about, but just the thought of sharing a meal with someone you care about was enough for both of them. After Marcus finished, John offered to wash the dishes. The wolf shook his head, "Nah it's cool, I've got it."

John still gathered both of their plates and silverware and headed for the kitchen, since they were in the dining room. Marcus was about to protest, but a distant, loud sound began emanating from upstairs. He stopped and twitched his ears, and John spoke up from the kitchen, "It's your cell, you'd better go see who it is pup."

Marcus growled to himself, he really wanted to help John. Partly because he didn't want him to feel like he was his slave, and ...well, he wanted to be close to him. But, there was more time for that later. Back downstairs, John was finishing up the kitchen, wiping down the counters. He folded the rag and hung it across the sink, when he heard a sound from the living room. He stood there for a minute, thinking it was just in his head, until he heard it again. Someone was knocking on the door.

He leaned his body to the side so that he could see the front door. He thought for a minute, 'Who could that be? Michael? No... he's not gonna be home till eight. Linkin maybe?' From his vantage point, he could see the door knob begin to jiggle. His eyes widened, "That's not Linkin!"

Before the door opened, he turned off the water and ducked behind the small marble counter that was placed in the middle of the kitchen. He heard the door open, with footsteps that soon followed. John's heart rate began increasing; he could even feel anxiety building up inside him. As the footsteps got closer, he could feel sweat starting to build up on his forehead. The footsteps stopped, around the entrance of the kitchen he guessed, which was less than ten feet away from him.

Then, he heard something unexpected...A female's voice. "Marcus! Where are you Hon?!"

John raised an eyebrow, 'Marcus? Is that why she's here?' His thoughts were cut off when he heard the sound of heels slowly clacking against the marble floor, she was in the kitchen. John swallowed, 'If she even sees me...' He looked down onto the floor, and could see her reflection. He couldn't make out what she was... in fact, the only thing he could actually see from the distorted reflection was the colour of her clothes, and... Well frankly, this chick had some huge tits. He also realized another thing, she was around the corner.

She spoke up again, "Marcus?" She took another step, and John hatched an idea. As she got closer, he slowly began to move, with his back against the counter, to the other side. Perfect timing too, because as soon as he went around the corner, she moved up enough so that she would have seen him if he had stayed put. He was now on the opposite side, quietly sighing in relief. He heard her take one more step, and she spoke once more, "Where in the hell can he be?... Ew! What the hell is that smell?!"

John could hear the disgust in her voice, and he felt slightly offended by it, 'I know my scent is different, but you don't gotta be such a bitch about it!'

He heard her voice again, "Ah! He's probably outside!"

He heard her footsteps slowly get farther as she left through the kitchens back door. As soon as he heard the door shut, John jumped to his feet and bolted into the living room and up the stairs. When he reached the top, he was too busy looking behind to notice that Marcus was right in front of him. He crashed into a wall of fur, which followed up with two huge arms holding him up, "Whoa!... Aww, I missed you two skinbag!"

John quickly recomposed himself, "Marcus, there's someone downstairs!"

The wolf's expression went from comical, to serious, "A person?! Who is it?!"

John shrugged his shoulders, he was just glad he got out of there. "I don't know, I didn't see her."

Marcus raised his eyebrow, "A girl? You didn't see anything specific?"

John thought for a second, and then it hit him. He placed his hands in front of his chest, "She has huge tits!"

Marcus scowled, "Damn it... It's Emma. What the hell is she doing here?"

John crossed his arms, "Friend of yours?"

Marcus was about to answer, but he fell silent as a door opening could be heard from downstairs. He held John by the shoulders and they both headed into the human's room, since the door was already open, "I'll explain later."

As soon as they were in, John began looking around desperately for a hiding spot, but he couldn't find one. Actually, there was nowhere he could hide. The closet was jam packed with clothes; the bed was against the back wall, so he couldn't hide behind that. This was the wrong room to pick. Wait... the window! He ran towards it and was about to jump out, but he stopped himself just in time. Directly below them was an SUV truck, and it had three other furs hanging around it. Had he jumped out, they would've seen him. John grunted in frustration, "Fuck!"

A voice could be heard from downstairs again, "Marcus? Are you up there babe?"

Her shout echoed in John's ears, he was running out of time. He could hear her coming up the stairs. John looked towards the wolf, but he wasn't doing any better than the human. He looked towards the door, and noticed something. The door frame looked like it was 'sinking' into the wall, so it left what looked like built in columns. He just pulled this idea out of his ass, but it's better than nothing. Her steps were getting closer, so he walked up to the door frame, turned around to face Marcus, who was now confused as hell. John pressed both of his hands on either side, and then lifted himself up so that his legs could do the same. Quickly, he began pushing himself upward to the point that his head was touching the ceiling.

The footsteps stopped outside the door, "Marcus! There you are, why didn't you answer me?"

The wolf was still astonished about what just happened, but he snapped out of it, "Emma, what're ya doing here?"

She took a couple of steps forward, and John saw her for the first time, well...the top of her at least. She was a lab, a black lab. Wearing a pink top with tight, blue jeans, she was standing right underneath John. Marcus noticed this, and took a step towards her, placing a paw on the door frame, "That's far enough Emma."

She pouted, "Aww... is my wolfie still mad over that little rumour?"

Marcus sighed, "Emma, we're not together anymore, not after what you did to me."

She just scoffed, "I don't know why you're so pissed, much less why you believed the shit everyone has said, it's not true."

Marcus furrowed his brow, "Emma, I heard you ADMIT you were fucking other guys! You said it right in front of me! I could even smell it on you... "

She just shook her head and snaked an arm around the wolf, clutching his ass, "Okay, yeah I did that. But I know you miss me Marcus; I know you can't stand being alone." She slipped her other paw into the front of his pants, groping his package, she smiled, "Besides, none of them were as big as you. It's not often you find someone with eleven inches."

Meanwhile, John almost fell from his hiding spot. This was a conversation he did NOT want to hear, in fact, after the stunt she just pulled, he just decided to look somewhere else for now. But he didn't know how much longer he could, his body still wasn't fully recovered, and this was causing a lot of physical stamina, stamina he didn't fully have back again yet.

Back down below, Marcus shivered at the touch of her paw pads against his groin, it wasn't his fault. He was a seventeen year old wolf... it was like a natural reaction for him, he couldn't help it. Plus he hadn't had sex in a couple of months, and he never really 'took care of the problem himself' a lot. But remembering John, he snapped himself back to reality, despite the stirring in his sheath.

She leaned in and locked lips with him, only making matters worse for the lupine. As she snaked her pink, deceitful tongue inside his mouth, she removed her paw from his shorts. She leaned away and whispered, "I'm gonna go to the mall with a couple of my friends. It's 11:13 right now, what do you say I come back around four? We could have a little fun, like we used to..."

She was cut off, as a foreign scent wafted by her nose. Her face grimaced as she scrunched up her nose, "There's that fucking smell again! What the hell is that Marcus?"

The wolf completely forgot that John's scent was everywhere in this room. While the distracted female was looming around, he quickly glanced up to see that John's arms were trembling, a sign that he was about to give in to exhaustion, he even had his eyes shut tight. He shook his head and grabbed the Lab by her shoulders, a little aggressively. He snarled, just to show he was serious, "Emma, get out of my house...Now."

She seemed a little surprised, but then just smirked as she turned on her heels, "I'll see you later, wolfie." Marcus watched her as she walked down the hallway and descended down the stairs.

Meanwhile, John just stayed there; he wanted to make sure she was out of the house. So as soon as the door shut, John released himself and fell towards the wooden floor. He landed on his feet, but fell to one knee, that little stunt had pulled a lot of energy out of him. Marcus leaned down and wrapped one of John's arms around his neck, "Sorry about that."

John just smiled as he slowly stood, "Quite the lady isn't she?"

Marcus just scoffed as he led him towards the bed, "Just...don't worry about her."

He sat on the edge of the bed, John right next to him. A little 'ten seconds of awkward silence' was needed right now, and both of the teens were more than happy to oblige. Finally, John broke it first, "Marcus... who in the hell was that?"

The wolf just bowed his head and sighed in defeat, this was one of the things he did NOT want to talk about, not even with his dad. Frankly, this little ordeal he had had with the lab, it was very embarrassing. He picked up his head, and stared straight ahead as he spoke, "Her name's Emma Simmons, and to be blunt...she's a whore."

John just smirked, "Wow. Nice set of words." He clasped his hands together, "So tell me, from the couple of days that I've been here already, I can tell that you're a pretty decent guy. So how in the hell did you end up with someone like her?"

Marcus just stayed as he was, "I went to a party with my friend, Alex. She was there, way in the back. She was watching me the whole time, I could tell. I could feel her gazing at me."

John stayed completely attentive, "And?"

Now, he looked at the human, "Let me explain something John, Emma is one of the most popular chicks in the school. When the most popular chick in your school is actually checking you out, it's possible to lose yourself."

John nodded, "Okay, that's understandable, but you said ya'll weren't 'together' anymore. What's that all about?"

He turned away, "I thought she was something that she wasn't. People around school said that she was a whore, and that she was constantly sleeping around with other guys. I didn't believe that. I always thought they were just rumours. They were saying she was a cruel, heartless leech. I didn't believe them; I thought I could change her." He spread out his paws in front of himself. "She made me look like a fucking idiot! And she didn't even give a damn. I even asked her if it was true and she simply said, 'Well yeah, how do you think I'm where I am now?'

He sighed, "I just didn't understand her John, and I guess I never could."

John slowly gazed towards the window, thinking about everything he's just heard, "So... she fucked you over?"

Marcus just widened his eyes a little, as if just realizing this, "Yeah...I guess she did. Hell, the only good thing I got out of our relationship was the sex."

John grunted in response, "And judging from the tone of your voice, I'm guessing it wasn't that great?"

He just stayed silent, because it was the truth. He didn't mind talking to John about this kind of stuff. He didn't even talk about it with his dad. What did that mean? That kind of scared him, the fact that John had this sort of natural, interesting power to make him want to spill all of his guts to him. It's an amazing gift, but also a fearful one. But enough about him, time to find out some stuff about his skinbag. Most importantly, relationship stuff. He leaned back and cracked his knuckles, "Okay skinbag, my turn to have some fun!"

John just laughed, "Aww shit, what do ya wanna know?"

He put on a cocky smile, "Well, you know... basically the same shit."

It took John a minute to get what he meant, he looked at the wolf with a little bit of shock in his eyes, "Me?... relationship wise?"

Marcus just kind of shrugged, "Well, yeah."

The human just chuckled, "Marcus, do you remember who you're talking to?"

The wolf smirked, "That doesn't mean you ain't been in a relationship yet."

John laughed a little harder, "Smart ass." He sighed as he stretched his arms out, "Alright pup, if you really want to know, I've never been in any kind of relationship."

Marcus just cocked his head to the side, "Nothing?"

John shook his head, "Nope, I've never even felt any feelings of affection towards anyone. Hell, even if I were interested in getting hooked up with someone, they'd probably run away at the first sight of me. That's if the thought of me being with them wasn't enough to scare them." He sat up and looked at the wolf in his purple eyes, "Look at me Marcus, I'm ... I look like a freak."

Marcus was listening intently, until he heard a small voice in his head, 'That's not true.' There were so many things Marcus wanted to say, but he just held it in. He didn't know why he was so scared. Feelings were just feelings, a thing of the mind. So why was he so scared? These were different from the feelings he felt when he was with some chick, these were entirely different. They were... FUCK! Why was this so hard? He shook his head, "John, are you insane?!?"

The human looked up, completely perplexed and shocked, "Wha..."

Marcus stood and raised his voice a little, "You've got everything a girl could want! Look at yourself, you're strong, intelligent, kind, and you have the body that any guy would die for!"

John was still wide eyed, he stood and looked at himself, "What're you talking about?"

The wolf scoffed, "Look at you man, look at your body! You have the most incredible build I've ever seen. You're not too skinny, but you're also not too muscular."

John still didn't understand, "You have the same build as me Marcus. You're also strong, intelligent, and kind. For fucks sake, you even have a unique eye colour like me!"

The wolf raised an eyebrow, "What are you talking about?"

John just shook his head, "Your eyes Marcus, they're purple. It's not every day that you find someone with purple eyes!"

Both of them could feel the heat rising in the room, this conversation that started out friendly, was now beginning transform into hostility. Marcus just groaned as he pressed his hand against his forehead, "You still don't understand John, that's what I mean! You and I are no different from each other, so why in the hell do you keep on beating yourself up?! I hate hearing you say things like that; you and I are exactly alike!"

John quickly stood, anger rapidly filling his mind. This wolf may know some things about him, but he doesn't know everything. So how can he sit in front of him, and talk as if he knew John his whole life? He took a step towards the wolf, and for the first time ever in the last few days...he felt the urge to punch Marcus. He clenched his fist and headed for the door instead, to exit the room. Marcus just stood there, the same frustrated, agitated look on his face. He watched John walk towards the door.

Right before John exited, he placed a hand on the door frame and turned his head to side, so that only one eye was making contact, "You really want to know what the major difference is between us?" Marcus didn't say anything, so the human took it as a 'yes.' Still staring at the wolf with one eye, he took a deep breath and gave him the answer, "I don't have any fur on my skin." With that being said, he walked out of the room and headed downstairs.

Marcus remained still, feeling the same thing that he'd felt yesterday...Failure. He sighed as he pressed one of his paws on his forehead, "Congratulations Marcus, you managed to fuck up again. It looks like that's all you're able to do," he muttered to himself.

He stood and headed out of the room, quietly making his way downstairs. When the human came into view, he was sitting on the small love seat next to the large sofa, tying his shoes. When Marcus reached the last step, he paused, "Where are you going?"

John didn't look up, "I need to get some fresh air, and I need to get out of here."

Marcus began to turn back around to head upstairs, "Let me go change my shirt."

Before he took another step, John spoke up, still not looking, "Marcus... right now, I think it's best that we shouldn't be real close at the moment. I'm just going for a walk; I'll be fine by myself."

Marcus pressed his ears against his skull, those few words... they hurt. There was one other thing, his voice. Usually, John's voice carried a little hint of kindness, despite whatever condition he was in. It was like a wall, a huge, mental, emotional wall. And no matter what you threw at it, it wouldn't fall. He thought nothing could destroy it, or even get past it, but apparently, he could. And that made him feel horrible, just the thought that he tore down that wall, John's mental barrier and shield, the only thing that actually made him feel protected. And he tore it down, brick by brick. He nodded his head as he whispered, "Okay."

Then, a knock came from the front door. Despite what just happened, the two snapped into action. John jumped up and vaulted over the large sofa to hide behind it, while Marcus cautiously headed towards the door. He raised his voice, "Who is it?"

No answer. He turned around to make sure John was out of sight, and then he placed his paw on the door knob, 'I swear to God if it's you Emma...' He opened the door, and was greeted by an unexpected surprise.

Linkin stood there, arms crossed with his head down slightly so that his eyes were looking up. He was wearing a white T-shirt with some kind of rock band on it, with simple blue jeans on. In his right paw, wrapped around his index finger were a set of keys. Linkin spoke up, "Yo mutt is John in?"

Marcus narrowed his eyebrows, a sure sign that he wasn't amused. There was a low growl in his voice, "Where else would he be, you dumba..."

He was interrupted by John's voice, "Link, is that you?"

The canine leaned his head to the side, "Hey man! How you doing?" He glanced at Marcus, "May I go inside?"

He didn't like it, but he nodded as he stepped to the side. Linkin strolled in, John meeting him halfway. The canine wrapped his arms around the human, squeezing him a little tightly in a warm hug, "Good to see you man, how are you feeling?"

John chuckled as he patted his back, "I'm feeling better Link, take it easy on the hugs though, my wound isn't fully healed again yet."

Linkin released him as he took a step back, "My bad, I just was a little excited to see how you were. I couldn't sleep last night; I was really worried about you."

John smiled, "Well, no need to worry my friend; I'm well on the road to recovery."

While the two were conversing, Marcus was standing to the side, not even being involved with any sort of communication. He felt a little odd though, as if he didn't exist to the two other people in front of him. Frankly, he felt like shit.

Linkin clapped his hands together, "Well! Let me explain why I'm here." He took a step forward and placed a paw on John's shoulder, "I want you to come over to my house," he paused for a minute, and then continued, "Well, my dad and I want you to come over. He wants to meet you, after I had to explain what happened yesterday. But he only wants to meet you if you're comfortable with it." He squeezed his shoulder lightly, "You up for it?"

John had to think for a second, it was a little overwhelming. In fact, it was terrifying that the chief of police wanted to meet him, but at the same time, he and Marcus needed to get some space from each other. He turned his head to the side slightly, thinking about his answer. Then, looking back at the Doberman, he nodded, "Sure, I'd love to."

Marcus heard this, and it honestly felt like someone just ripped a chunk of his heart out. He quietly whined, so quietly so that neither of the two could hear him, even with Linkin's super sensitive ears. The canine threw on a cocky smile, "Great! You ready to go?"

John nodded as he walked to the coat rack to grab his white sweater, "Sure, let's go." He threw his coat on and headed for the door, not even acknowledging Marcus as he passed him and headed outside. Linkin saw this, and felt that it was a little odd, but he felt that it wasn't his business.

He followed John out the door, looking at Marcus as he passed, "I'll take care of him, I promise."

The wolf just nodded, just staring at the ground. He quietly whispered, "I know you will."

Despite the fact that the two had their differences, they both had one goal...To protect John. At first, Marcus didn't see it. But now, he could feel the true intentions of the canine. They were the same as his own. Who knows? Maybe the two may even become actual friends one day, since all they were really right now were acquaintances.

John walked down towards the driveway of the house. He didn't need to know where to go, since it was pretty simple to figure out. I mean, who else owned a motorcycle that he knew? The bike was beautiful. It was a combination of black and a dark red, crimson colour, with the black being the primary. It made sense that the bike was this colour, not only because it was astonishingly elegant and mesmerising, but it also matched the canine's colours almost perfectly, as if Linkin was a part of the bike. He walked up to the side and waited for his friend, who was right behind him.

Linkin grinned as he approached, "She's a regal machine, isn't she?"

John nodded, "You got that right, it's pretty damn amazing."

The Doberman threw one leg over the bike, positioning himself so that he was comfortable. He turned his head to the side, "Well? What are ya waiting for? Get on!"

John just chuckled as he sat behind his friend, scooting up so that his ass wasn't hanging off. Linkin turned on the ignition, "You'd better wrap your arms around me, unless you wanna fall off!"

John did as he suggested, feeling a little odd in this position. As John made himself comfortable, Linkin looked up towards the human's bedroom window, to see Marcus standing within view. He looked... sad? He couldn't really read his emotions, but he did catch one thing, and it was in his eyes. Regret. He directed his full attention to the wolf, who noticed this. With the most genuine concern in his eyes, Linkin nodded his head towards the wolf. Marcus saw this, and nodded as well. A couple of seconds passed before he disappeared out of sight. Linkin pressed on the gas and turned the bike around as they slowly moved forward. Once they completed his U-turn, he accelerated, and within seconds the two were driving down the road.

John freaked out for a second, and he squeezed his arms around the canine's torso. Linkin just grinned as he felt this, it reminded him of the time of when he was in John's position, holding onto his dad's body for dear life when he first rode on a motorcycle. They didn't go very far though, since as soon as the house was out of sight, Linkin pulled over to the side and stopped the bike.

John released his grip as Linkin got off the bike, "What're you doing?"

Linkin ignored the question, "Scoot up, you're gonna drive us to my house. I didn't let you get in the front back at your place, since your protective mutt probably would've had an anxiety attack."

John was surprised, and a little scared. He'd never driven anything before; he usually just got on the bus or walked to his destination. To make matters worse, the motorcycle wasn't even his. Once he got himself together, he shook his head, "No Link, I can't do this. What if I crash? What if one of us gets hurt?"

Linkin ignored his reasons, and simply pushed John forward so that he could have some room to sit, "You worry too much." He reached around so that he could show John the controls, "It's easy, use this to accelerate," he tapped on the left handle, "And use this to brake." he tapped the right handle. "I won't explain the E-brake or anything else, since my house is just seven blocks away."

John was listening, but on the inside, he was scared shitless. He'd read some books on vehicles and their mechanics, but that was about it. Linkin leaned back, "So... are you gonna start it?"

Hesitantly, John turned the key, and the machine came to life. John twisted his left wrist, and they shot forward. Fear kicked into John's system, and he locked his legs onto the bike as they zoomed on, "Holy fuck!"

Linkin sort of expected this, so he just held onto John and spoke into his right ear, "Careful! This baby has a lot of torque; you only want to go fast if you've got the hang of it!"

The human took note of that as he slowly steadied himself so that the bike stopped swerving. Actually, he gained control of it fairly easily. John felt his blood pump faster as they sped down the street. There was a strange feeling in his gut; it felt like his body was emptying of almost everything. He noticed something else, he was smiling. And eventually, the smile grew until it evolved into a huge bout of joyful laughter. He felt amazing.

Linkin knew he was laughing, not only could he hear it, but he also felt the human's torso jump up and down. He grinned, "Having fun are we?"

John just chuckled, "Oh hell yeah! I never knew this could be so fun!" Their first turn came up, and John preformed it expertly, as if he'd been doing this his whole life. Ahead of them was a huge stretch of undisturbed asphalt, no traffic or anything. John wanted to try something out. As they went on, he slowly twisted his left wrist a little more, the bike's speed increasing drastically.

The canine felt this, and tapped on the human's shoulder, "Uh John...We're speeding up."

John didn't take his eyes off the road, "I know Link, just trust me... I know what I'm doing!" Fearlessly, he twisted his wrist a little more, increasing their speed. Now... it was Linkin's turn to hold onto the human. Honestly, he was a little scared. Hell, not even HE went this fast, and it was his bike!

As they zoomed on, John recognized the feeling in his gut. It was adrenaline. It replaced the fear and other emotions in his body, ignoring everything except for the striving to go faster. Another turn was coming up, it was jammed with traffic. John yelled so that his friend could hear him, "How far is your house from here?"

Linkin responded, still clutching onto John's body, "It's about four more blocks from here, why do you ask?"

The human just smiled, "Because we're taking a shortcut!"

When they reached the turn, instead of following the road, John went straight into an alley, not even slowing down, despite the many honks from pissed off drivers. Linkin gulped down some fear; perhaps this wasn't the greatest idea. He didn't expect John to be so...fearless. They headed down the skinny alley, until they saw a split ahead of them.

John shouted, "Which way?"

The Doberman responded, "Right!"

John placed his hand on what he thought was the E-brake, and squeezed the hell out of it while he turned. The turn was sharp and quick, almost as if it didn't happen. As they sped on, John saw the exit of the alley up ahead, with a house visible across the street. He narrowed his eyes and pointed ahead, "Is that it?"

Linkin nodded as he responded, "Yup!"

John slowed down as the exit came up and once the coast was clear, he crossed the street. He approached the medium sized house, and drove onto the driveway as Linkin instructed him to. Once they came to a stop, he turned the key and the machine returned to its dormant state.

Linkin got off the bike, "Holy shit! You really had fun, didn't you? I was NOT expecting that!"

John just blushed, "Well, I didn't expect it either. I just kind of felt this crazy rush once I got the hang of it."

The canine just chuckled, "Well, I'm glad you had fun," he looked towards his house, and then back at John, "You ready?"

John just nodded. Truth be told, he was as nervous as fuck. They began making their way up to the front door, once Linkin retrieved his keys from the bikes ignition. This was just great. Linkin's dad, who was the chief of police, wanted to speak to John, who was a victim in a crime yesterday in which the chief of police's son was injured. Fantastic, no reason to be scared. He just wished it would be that easy. When they reached the door, Linkin raised his paw and inserted the keys into the lock.

John just sighed as he thought to himself, 'Well isn't this is gonna be fun?'
