Christmas

By:Sparta

The fresh smell of pine: Christmas bells jingling, and the fresh smell of snow. Three things that easily describe the snowy holidays of Christmas. Watching trees be put up and being decorated with shiny nick-knacks and lace. Cats climbing the trees and dogs being put in Santa hats. Christmas: always feeling cozy, sitting at home just relaxing, with good company, family, and lots of love all around. How can't it be the most wonderful time of the year? Kids playing in the fresh white snow, and time off from school. Mom's and grandma's sharing recipes for sweets. Kids trying to help and sneak away with the gingerbread men with icing faces and buttons. Coming up with creative ways to have fun in the kitchen.

Gathering lumber: setting the fire, so later family and friend can gather around and warm up after being out in the snow. The sweet sound of laughter as forts are built and snow balls are thrown across the yard. Heaps of snow piled up against the side walk and mistletoe hanging from the ceilings of houses. Gutters lined with dangling lights colored with green, red, and yellow. Warm hot chocolate waiting on the counter when coming in or getting home. Cutting out paper snow flakes and hanging them on the fridge. Taking out construction paper, crayons, and cotton balls and making a cotton ball snowmen with a seen in the back ground. People complaining about how cold it is, and people saying its not cold enough or it's been colder. Mothers and fathers playing outside with there kids: making snow angels, building snowmen, and making snow tunnels. The light snow fall making fresh snow to play in tomorrow.

Going down to shelters and helping out: feeding the hungry and warming them up with hot chocolate. Donating money for kids in need and volunteering to help put up the town Christmas tree. Donating clothes that no longer fit you and giving away canned goods.

I know all of this sounds to perfect to be Christmas but its true. Most kids look at it as a time for gifts but it's not. Christmas is a time for helping others, and spending time with your family and friends. Gifts are just a perk that comes with everything else, but are gifts really needed? There are some people out there that don't even have a person to spend Christmas with.
