#14 of Clinging Onto a Hope of Happiness

Here's hoping that nob...

Here's hoping that nobody complains that it's short this time. I mean,.... really, now? It's something around 3925 words.... enjoy!

Georgia stood and glared at Lucky for a moment. Fara already knew the piercing feel of the cold blue eyes. Georgia looked from Lucky to Fara, then back to Lucky again.

"Humph... an umbreon would have been better," she said in her superior tone. A tone that Fara recognized all too well.

The trainer that stood before her was the one that shaped her. The reason why Fara is an espeon. A glaceon trotted behind Georgia, its head raised high snobbishly.

"Come Delysia. We have places to be," Georgia said. She used to talk to Fara that way, also. Georgia and her glaceon left out of the hotel in perfect silence.

"That's Georgia?" Lucky asked.

"Uh-huh," Fara answered, in slight shock ad confusion.

"Seems like a real priss," Lucky respected her pokémon's choice, now. "I understand you, now, why you left her... it only took me a few seconds to want to reshape her face."

Among the ship were hundreds of people, all wearing their finest formal clothes. Where there were clearings in the crowd, pokémon battles took place. There were machines for official and secret random trades. Lucky and Fara scuttled through the crowd, towards the cabins. Lucky was still carrying the luggage, filled with human and pokémon cleaning products and Lucky's changes of clothes. Lucky was an outlier to the crowd, wearing simply a blouse and black pants.

"I should have worn something more special," she whispered to herself. Fara felt right in place with the crowd. The female trainers all had their prettiest pokémon out, and the males the biggest, most built pokémon for showing off. There were Machamps, Kangaskhan, and even some of the largest eeveelutions Fara had ever seen. Suddenly, the crowd became quiet and the battles ceased. Over a megaphone, a sea officer speaks as the crowd's noise drops out to listen.

"There is a suspicion of Team Rocket members aboard the ship, take a strong caution for your pokémon and belongings. Have a safe trip, thank you for your cooperation.

The crowed gasped as the words about a gang leaked from the officer's mouth. It slowly started speaking worriedly about the announcement, the noise crashing in waves to Fara's ears.

Lucky and Fara took the advantage of a clear back of the room to race towards the cabins. Lucky took her key card out and swiped it through the scanner to room 03. The light flashed green and when the door opened, there was a man, early 20s, in black. Shuffling through the drawers in the room. Lucky reacted calmly and whispered to Fara.

"I know this is against the rules, but, I want you to control that man with your psychic. I want to see his face while I question him. Make sure you take careful control of his arms, we don't want any resistance.

"But-"

"No, I need you to do this, Fara."

Fara nodded and took focus, her eyes closed. When she reopened her eyes, they glowed in the colour of blue lightning, a menacing glare straight towards the target. She forced the surprised thief to turn around, one step at a time, his eyes glowing similarly, but in red. Fara felt his arms resisting backwards, probably reaching for a weapon or pokéball. She jerked his hand back to its place at his thigh.

Lucky took a step forward, before the man resisted with a force so strong that Fara couldn't control him. She shouted as her control was broken, and the man took a knife from the back of his belt. He charged towards Lucky, who dodged to the side, turned around swiftly and kicked him square in the back as he passed. His back cracked and he was forced onto the ground. Lucky took the gun from her utility belt and pointed it to the back of his head.

"What are you looking for?" Lucky asked in a demanding tone. The man started to pull his head up before Lucky pushed it back down with her metallic weapon. "What are you here for!?" Lucky commanded with her strong, dominant voice.

"I'm..." The grunt mumbled.

"I don't hear you!" Lucky smashed his face into the floor, blood running out of his nose onto the fine carpet. "Speak up, villain!" Lucky spat to the back of his head. His hat rolled off his head, revealing his midnight black hair.

Fara couldn't feel his consciousness anymore, he had blacked out. "Lucky," Fara started. "He's passed out."

Lucky paused for a moment, and removed her weight from his back cautiously. "I guess I kicked too hard," she said, and Fara felt slight amusement in her voice. Lucky pressed the service button on the wall and called for the sea officers.

In almost an instant, Fara heard footsteps trampling down the corridor towards room 03. Lucky stood, observing the body being tied up by the officers as he was unconscious. She looked a bit proud of her upcoming, this would in fact find its way onto the news, as cameras recorded and flashed the room.

When Lucky figured out who was important in the room, she kicked the rest of the community out. She was questioned for hours by the officers, for what had only been a couple of minutes. For what the event was truly worth, the amount of questions was ridiculous. Some were even as silly as "Why are you not wearing a dress, like other women on board?" At a point, Fara could tell Lucky was becoming irritable.

Lucky commanded to be left alone, so she may ask some questions for the tied up body when it awakens. Lucky patiently sat on the bed, unpacking luggage into the drawers for the three-day ride.

Only the first day, and an event like this happens. Fara's mind wandered before she spoke. "I get a feeling that this cruise is not going to be normal."

"You too, huh?" Lucky asked. "When have things been normal for us?" She leered at the body, a huge red R on the chest of the tight clothing. Ropes were coiled around his arms and his wrists tied behind his back. His legs were also tied to prevent him from going anywhere. Lucky took a long examination over the body before turning to the kitchen to cook again. As Lucky pulled out items from the mini-fridge that's supplied, there was a knock on the door. Before Lucky began cooking, she took the steps over and past the blood on the floor of the small room. Out of the door was room service.

"We were sent to freely give you our service." The two men bowed and entered the room with the metal cart filled with food. "For the hero of the cruise, we will provide free three-course meals every day, every five to six hours of daylight," one said.

"I don't know about 'hero,' but I won't argue with free food," Lucky stated. Fara giggled to herself and watched as the two men bowed again and left the food cart in the room.

"Well..." Lucky said, placing her items back into the fridge. "I'm not one to deny free stuff." She flopped onto the mattress and looked at the well-cooked food by the boat's five-start chef.

Next door, in room 4, Fara heard thudding, like something heavy had just fallen on the floor. Startled, Fara watched the wall, wishing she could see through it. Now that her senses were alert, she could feel the boat's slow rocking, side to side. She felt the vibrations of a heavy pokémon stomping down the hallway. A sizable one, at that. A large shadow blocked the light coming in from under the closed door, not that it made much of a difference to the lighting of the total room. The figure passed by without stopping, Fara on her alerted toes.

"Calm down, girl," Lucky said. "We've already dealt with the trouble, and it's up against the wall right there." Lucky motioned to the tied body.

"Yeah, but for some reason, I feel like there's more to this trip than just one grunt in our room. What was he looking for when we hadn't even opened the door once, yet?"

"I was saving that question for when he woke up. I need to know what they were doing in here." Lucky started to tie her blonde hair into a tail, pulling and evening out its golden colour.

"Hmm..." Fara murmured in thought. "Are we really involved in a case on the ship towards our other case?"

"Seems like it," Lucky sighed at the realization. "Oh, no... if we're on the news for a case on a boat to Johto, Jupiter will know that we're on her trail!"

"What's the problem if we can stay on her trail no matter how far she runs?"

"That's true, but..." Lucky's facial expression changed quickly. "I've been tasked to assassinate Jupiter, the next chance that I'm given. The boss wants her delivered in no other way than dead."

Fara paused, shocked at the task given to her innocent-looking trainer. She took a moment, then, to imagine Lucky on a killing spree against Team Galactic members to reach Jupiter. The thought was interrupted by Lucky's voice.

"You okay, Fara?" Lucky asked, shattering the image.

"I'm fine," she lied. Lucky would never just be any bloodthirsty human. Fara gave the thought another chance to occupy her mind. She saw Lucky's maniacal face, grinning as the blood spattered onto her cheek. She shook her head and the thought off of her mind to see the innocent Lucky eating her meal.

"Are you hungry, Fara?" She asked, oblivious to Fara's thoughts and imagination.

Lucky then let out her group of trained pokémon, starting with Bubba and ending with Duce. Soon enough, the room was filled with the team of 5 plus Lucky sitting on the bed.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Duce shook his head and looked around, losing his footing and tripping, face on the floor. The smell of fresh blood wafted through his nose. Fara laughed and placed her paws on his back, keeping him pressed against the floor. The scene was watched by a group of laughing pokémon

"Get off," Duce grunted. When his senses came to life, he saw the blood on the floor under his snout. "Ugh... that stench is gross," he said as Fara moved off of his back. Lucky finished her food and called back the service to take the cart back. When she finished placing the decorated glass plates on the tray, the service walked in.

"Hello, again," Lucky said to the familiar faces. She pushed the cart towards the two young men in their uniforms. "Also... can you bring and officer to remove this body from the room?" She asked. Fara looked surprised at the question. "I've decided it's not in my best interest to ask this man any questions. I don't care what you decide to do with him."

The two nodded and bowed, leaving the doorway and taking the cart with them. After a few moments of Lucky explaining the situation to the confused pokémon, the main officer came in to remove the body from room 3 and take it to the brig.

Duce found himself watching Fara's rump, distracting him from Lucky's explanation. He didn't really care what was going on, when he could be flirting with the figure in front of him. When Fara looked back at him, he turned his head towards Lucky and acted like he was listening.

Duce's tail started to wag as he imagined him and Fara together. My chances are so much better since Lucky made that deal with me...

*flashback*

"I'll help you with Fara if you help me with a few things that I can't ask my others to do, later..." Lucky said. The mightyena eyes the pink furball for a moment, on the other side of the red and tan room.

"It's a deal," Duce said, not taking his eyes off of Fara.

*End flash*

"So, my pokémon, I want you to be looking out for more suspicious figures," Lucky finished. "You're free to roam around the ship wherever you're authorized to go. Just be back before 6:00 every night." She opened the door so they may all wander around. Bubba stayed inside the room, and Fara went with Lucky. Duce took his first few steps outside and took in the view of overhead chandeliers and the tables filled with refreshments on the sides. After a moment, Fara trotted over towards him.

"Hmph," she muttered under her breath. "I don't know what her intentions are, anymore..." Duce perked his ears and watched her.

"....Hi," she said unwillingly.

"That's a great way to approach a person, don't you think?"

"No, but it's the right way to approach you," she retorted.

"Ouch," Duce said. He had gotten used to the insults from Fara by now. He had taken so much from her that her insults felt like empty words to him, now. He looked over himself, quickly. The crowd was behind his slick, black fur. "Must be hard to learn a couple of compliments in a crowd like that," he said. He took the battle between a rhydon and arcanine into view.

He watched as the rhydon blocked the scorching flames of the arcanine's flamethrower. Staring, he thought about how he wouldn't have been able to block it. "Such strength," He said, amused.

Fara shrugged. "They probably bought them from deceased trains' children. So many don't go to trainer school and will have to give up the strong pokemon," she said.

"Trainers' school?" Duce asked. Fara looked into space for a moment, then shook her head. "What was that?"

"You should ask Lucky about it; she had a better view of the place. As for me," she said. "It's a long-gone memory."

"Is that just another way of telling me you don't want to tell me?" Duce asked. Then he realized what it was about. "It's part of that shady past of yours, isn't it?

"You would shut your maw if you know what's good for you," Fara threatened.

"And, if I may ask, what would you do to me were I not to be quiet?" Duce smirked.

Fara closed one eye and looked at him through the other. "Wanna find out?"

"....No..."

"I wouldn't hesitate to hurt you," Fara assured, facing the crowd. Duce sighed, knowing she wasn't lying. She didn't share any care for him like he did for her.

Duce turned to look at Lucky for a moment to see her watching and chewing a bread roll. She legitimately cared how and what her pokémon were doing, until she was confronted by another trainer for small talk.

When Duce turned his head back, Fara was still watching the heated battle. As for himself, he took in a good view of her features.

Suddenly, the out-of-control-fire alarm took off, them directing everyone's view to the same battle as Fara's attention. The battle immediately ceased and many trainers' water pokémon sprayed their water attacks to the flaming area. There were four or five streams of water against the small fire as the crowd half-panicked. As the fire turns into steam and puddles, the intercom voice plays.

"Due to an incident on board, we ask that fire- and electric-type pokémon do not participate in public spar. Thank you!"

The piece of the crowd with electric- and fire-type powerhouses started yelling unhappily at the announcement. Lucky, whom was still eating bread, simply nodded and accepted the message. She looked back and forth and then merged into the crowd, mingling with people.

Duce dragged his eyes back to Fara, whom was looking at him with a piercing amethyst stare. He flinched at the chill that shot through his spine, and opened his mouth to speak. After a moment of nothing coming out, he exhaled and spoke. "You know you scare me, right?"

"Good," she said. "A quality that a spy should have, don't you think?"

"I... guess so." He moved closer to her, cautious of another verbal attack. To his surprise, she hadn't insulted him.

Lucky peered through the crowd to see someone whom she thought she had seen before. A familiar one... one like...

Lucky tapped the brown-haired girl on her shoulder. She turned around, a pair of cold blue eyes looked at her. Georgia took a step forward into Lucky's elbow room.

"You the one who stole my pokémon, you conniving bitch!" She hissed into Lucky's face. Lucky raised her hands, motioning her to calm down, and to back off.

"I didn't steal her from you," Lucky said. "She ran away of her own free will."

"You lie!" Georgia spat, angry enough that tears were in her eyes. "You... you...!" She raised a hand and slapped Lucky across the face. Her face ached and throbbed in pain, but she reacted calmly.

"I caught her around Solaceon... she battled us. I caught her, and then..."

Georgia listened intently, her facial expression changing very slowly from anger to understanding. When Lucky finished, she looked upon Georgia with sympathy.

"I want my first back..." Georgia whined.

Lucky looked at her seriously. "That's for Fara to decide."

Ches sat next to Skeln as they ate the provided food together. She had never been a big eater, but she would eat what she was given.

Skeln stopped eating to lick her cheek. "We're too old to be eating so much, love," he said, speaking his mind.

"It is good, though, the good..." Ches said. "Do you miss Henry's cooking, Skeln?" She asked.

"Yeah, most of the time," he said. "It's just too bad that he had to die before us.... we were so much stronger back that, now look at us," he said. "We're old, we'll just have to accept it and move on."

"We are accepting it, Skeln. But it's hard to move on from the good days. You can't say you've moved on, either, Skeln," she declared.

"I just can't get used to being a story teller rather than a story character," he answered. "It sucks to be old," he rasped.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Fara stared seriously at Duce. "Why has Lucky started pushing me towards you? You must have something to do with it... it is you." She could see the truth in his facial expression. "I get it, now.... so you want as far as asking Lucky for help, huh?" She turned from him, disappointed and frustrated at Lucky. "Why would she want us together in the first place?" she muttered.

"Because she wants me to feel in place," Dice answered. Fara could feel the heat radiate between their bodies as he moved close to her.

"Space," Fara said. With that word, Duce moved a step away. Fara shamed at the blush across her face. "I'm going back to the room," she stated. Duce nodded and allowed her to leave. Fara could feel the eyes burning her backside. Men, she thought grimly to herself.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Bubba cursed his weight as Fara walked in. He wished to be something else, something more attractive. But he was stuck there as the ugly venusaur. The backside of the team. He wished with the whole of his soul to be something else.

Sighing, he noticed Fara lay down. "Taking a nap?" he asked.

"........sure," she answered quietly. She closed her eyes and emulated the breathing pattern of sleep.

She's changed, Bubba thought. So different since Lucky caught her. He looked at her with squinted eyes. Her tail covered most of her face; but her jewel seemed dim. He cursed himself once more, wishing he could be in a different body. One more mobile and attractive than the one he had. He ate some of the provided food that Lucky had brought in for him earlier, all the while worrying about the extra weight it would put on, making it continuously harder to move.

________________________________________________________________________________________

"You're Lucretia, from trainer school, right?" Georgia asked. "Just to be sure, you are the one who sat behind me?"

"That's right," Lucky answered. "But call me Lucky." She put her hand to her right hip and leaned on it.

"You're right, I guess, about it being Fara's decision who she'll be with. But.... say, who is her original trainer? Me. You understand?"

"Wrong. By the official rules, a pokémon that ran away or was released has no original trainer," Lucky contradicted.

Georgia paused for a moment. "Then, say she picks me? Who is her original trainer, then?"

"I am. I caught her as a wild pokémon, so by record, I am the original trainer."

The glaceon from the Inn came towards them with the show-style walk. "Delysia," Georgia called. "We're going to our room," she claimed. She and her young glaceon walked off from the crowd and down the hallway to their room. Lucky stopped at her room and went in.

As she walked in, she noticed the sleeping espeon with her face covered and the eating venusaur that took up most of the room. She whispered to Bubba, trying to let Fara sleep peacefully.

"What's wrong with her?" Lucky asked.

"Not sure," Bubba answered. He used a vine to point at her forehead. "Think it may have something to do with that," he whispered.

"Gotcha," Lucky said. "I'll find some jewel polisher, or something for her... I know she's aware of it. I'll do something about it."

Bubba stared at Fara's jewel as Lucky did. "You know," Lucky started. "They say that the source of an espeon's psychic power comes from that jewel on their head. If it's dim... they can't use their psychic attacks," Lucky gossiped. She smirked and moved closer to Fara's sleeping body.

She rubbed the jewel on her forehead, then took her hand off to view it. There was fur now, on her hand, but nothing else. It piqued her interest as to what kind of ingredients in jewel shiner made it shine. When Lucky looked back down, Fara's eyes were opened, looking at her.

"Something you hope to gain from my jewel?" Fara asked unhappily.

"No," Lucky said. "It's torturous to take away the jewel...."

Fara gave a surprised look. "I-I don't understand," Fara said. "Torturous?"

"Fara, your psychic power... where do you draw it from?" Lucky asked.

"My head.... why?"

"That gem.... is it the source of your psychic attacks?"

"...oh," Fara said. "I get it, now."

"I would never take your jewel away," Lucky oathed.

"I trust you, Lucky," Fara said. "Because you're my trainer." She stood up, yawned and shook her head.

"It's me... nothing to worry about...., heh." Lucky sighed at how she didn't seem like a threat to anyone.

It was then, that Lucky heard a scream from room 04. "That sounds like.... Georgia's scream," Fara said.

So what do you think of the Soap-style scene arrangement?
