Vince stood silently at the top of the stairs, debating...

Vince stood silently at the top of the stairs, debating on which canine he wished to face. To his left he had the Dalmatian that he had just walked in on with the boy he admired, but right below him there stood a tall, mid-aged beagle, most likely Alex's dad. Either way he had been caught and had to face someone. He gulped his fears down his long, furry throat.

"Hey there!" called the man below him. The deep, yet friendly voice caught his attention immediately and he faced the man with all emotion wiped away. "You must be Blake." Vince squinted he eyes in confusion as he quickly thought up a plan do escape. It was simple, yet brilliant. He moved his left foot down onto the step below him and quickly shuffled his way down the staircase.

"Yea, you must be Alex's dad. It's really nice to meet you." He quickly flipped his hood off of his head and reached his paw down the shake. The man returned the gesture and even threw in a bonus smile. Vince quickly smiled back twice as big and twice as bright.

"So where you headed sport?" the father asked as he removed his fancy pair of prescription glasses.

"I left my phone down in my car, thought I'd jog out there and grab it before it got too late. He slowly slid his hoody off, trying to appear friendly towards the kind and respectable man. It definitely worked.

"Well don't forget to close the door on your way out," he replied ironically. Vince returned a smile and quickly fled out the front door with his hoody draped over his hand. Once he was finally outside and home free, he began to strut his way to his vehicle as if saying "I'm the man". He was cocky and arrogant, but who could blame him? He had cheated his way out of an almost unforgiving situation. He was proud and he had the right to be.

The car door popped open with ease and Vincent slid into the driver's seat. He glanced back up at Alex's window one more time to give himself some time to think the situation over. The entire scenario that he had just escaped from made him happy and gave him a huge adrenaline rush, but at the same time, he was feeling some hurt. The man he had admired and crushed on was with another guy right here, right now. Although they had no relationship, it still hurt the fox to see him being passionate with a different boy.

'I can't let it get to me,' he thought to himself, 'I can get through this.' And with those final thoughts of encouragement, he revved up the engine to his Nissan and drove off into the night.

***

Alex rapidly scrambled on the ground as he pulled his shirt over his head and back onto his body. He had almost no idea of what had just gone down and what Blake had seen. Although things hadn't gone too far, both the boys were shirtless, kissing on the bed, and Alex was panicking that someone had discovered them.

"What did he look like again?" He blurted out in frenzy.

"I told you ten times, it was a tall red fox just standing in the doorway watching us. He was some kind of pervert if you ask me." Blake replied, slightly annoyed. The two were finally dressed again and now that their moment of passion was over, all that they felt was regret, guilt, and a tad bit of awkwardness.

"Well did he look familiar at all?" Alex asked.

"I think I may have seen him around school sometime, but I can't think of a name." He pushed his heel down into his tennis shoes and laced them up tight. Alex quickly jerked his head up when he heard his dad calling from the other room. His panic only grew in magnitude and he began to lose complete composure.

"Holy cow, that's my dad!" he whispered loudly, "How's my hair? Do I have sex hair? Oh my gosh he's going to know."

"Don't worry," Blake replied losing tolerance, "You look fine, he won't know anything. Trust me I get into these situations all the time." Alex bit down on his lip hard as his dad pressed through the doorway. He quickly looked over at Blake and squinted, then looked back at Alex, regaining his firm stare.

"Alex," he said, "can I talk to you outside for a moment?" Alex swallowed, trying to calm himself down, and then nodded. He slowly walked out of his room and shut the door behind him. He looked up at his father. "Look Alex, I know I said you could have a sleepover, but you only informed me that one person was going to be over here, not two." Alex returned a puzzled stare.

"What are you talking about Dad? The only people here are me and Blake."

"Come on Alexander, I'm not blind. I saw the other boy in your room."

"Yea Dad, it's just me and Blake."

"Then who's the Dalmatian?"

"That's Blake."

"Then who's the Fox that was in the living room?" Alex's eyes widened and his jaw dropped. Here was the fox again that Blake was talking about. The only questions he had were: who was he and what was he doing here?

Alex began to stutter with his lack of an excuse. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. At that moment, he was saved as Blake came strolling out of the bedroom nonchalantly "Blake!" Alex quickly Shouted, "Where are you going?" Blake looked up at Alex's dad, then back at Alex.

"I think my brother, Chris, needs me at home now," Blake explained, putting emphasis on the word brother. He looked Alex in the eyes trying to send him a telepathic message. Alex received it, and understood. Blake was using brother as a code word for boyfriend.

"Yea that's probably a good idea. Look, I'll call you tomorrow okay?" Alex replied. Blake nodded his head and quickly made his way towards the nearest exit, leaving Alex alone with his accuser. His dad looked him deep in the eyes with a threatening glare and Alex became reserved in response. He was showing fear, which was exactly what his dad's authority like figure was asking for.

"Look Alex, I don't know who that fox you're sneaking around is, but I better not see him around the house again. Got it?"

"Yea, but Dad-"

"No buts!" he interrupted, "Now go get ready for bed, okay Alexander?"

"Okay Dad."

***

Sky was sleeping soundly, dreaming of a calming vacation to the mountains, when the sharp tapping noise started up quickly and loudly. The harsh sound of glass being beat on made him jerk out of his slumber. He opened his eyelids and looked around the room, still half asleep. His claws grasped the pillow next to him tight and he slammed it over his ears trying to block out the noise.

The noise continued, growing in volume. "Go away!" he yelled in his delusional state. "We don't need any fortune cookies." The tapping failed to cease, but proceeded to grow and grow, louder and louder. Sky ripped the pillow off of his head and pegged it hard at the window. He was finally gaining his grip on reality.

Still groggy, he leaned his body up and stood up on both of his legs. Within just a few steps, he was at the window that was aggravating him so and he pulled open the long white blind folds.

There Vincent stood, waiting below his second floor window with a paw full of small pebbles. He reached down at one and tossed it gently up in the air and watched as it smacked the glass once again.

Vince was yelling something at him, but it was easily muffled by the double paned glass. Sky responded with an "I don't hear you" hand gesture. Vince shook his head at Sky's obliviousness and extended both of his arms out to his side. He clutched his fists and pulled his arms to the other side of his body, mimicking the action of a window opening.

Sky laughed, unlatched the window, and opened it slowly. He tried to keep as quiet as possible, making sure he did not alarm his parents. "What do you want?" he whispered loudly as he wiped the sleep from his eyes.

"Get your ass down here you bum!" Vince yelled back at peak volume, "I'm bored."

"Will you keep your voice down? I don't want you waking my parents."

"They won't wake up; it took me at least 30 rocks to get your lazy butt up."

"They're light sleepers."

"Which obviously, you're not."

"Shut up. What do you want?"

"I told you, I'm bored!"

"And what exactly do you expect me to do about that?"

"I expect you to get down here and entertain me."

Sky leaned forward and looked down at the street outside of his house. He glanced left, then right, making sure there were no cars or people around. "I'll be right down," he called out quietly before grabbing ahold of the window and slowly sliding it shut.

He walked out of his room steadily and began to tip-toe through the hall. He silently approached his brothers room and put his ear up to the door. There was no noise on the other end. The door handle gave him a cold chill as he placed his paw on the metal and slowly turned it open. As the door creaked open, he caught a quick flash of light shine across his brother's room before disappearing under the sheets. He knew instantly what the little devil was up to.

"Damien!" he blurted out in a loud whisper, "I know you're playing your Nintendo DS under there!" He paused and waited for a few seconds before his younger brother admitted to the accusation.

"So what?" Damien replied, "It's just a game, you're not my mom."

"You're only 12, you're not allowed to be up this late. You know that."

"It's two in the morning Skylar; you're not supposed to be up either. Even on a weekend."

"Go to bed Dame." Sky stared his little bro deep in the eyes and did not break contact whatsoever. Their sibling rivalry usually always ended in these staring contests where the first to cower out would lose the fight. More often than not, Skylar would win due to his age, maturity, and intimidation.

"Fine," Damien replied, "but if I'm going to bed, you have to too!"

"Don't worry, I am," Skylar lied. He gave his brother a goodnight wave and then slowly brought the door to a close.

Once out of view, he picked up his pace and jogged quickly yet quietly down the stairs. The latches on his front door were simple to open, making it even easier to be successfully silent. He closed the door behind him and looked up at Vincent standing by his car. He was twirling his car keys on his longest claw and tapping his foot impatiently.

"About time," Vincent called out, "what took so long?"

"My brother. That kid never wants to go to bed." Vincent laughed in response and began to walk down the street away from the house. Skylar gave him a puzzled look, but quickly followed behind. "Why aren't we taking your car?" he asked.

"I'm in the mood to walk," Vince replied.

"What's so great about walking?"

"The moon, the stars, the crisp, fresh air. What don't you like about it?"

"I just woke up, I've got no energy right now," he laughed.

"Well find some lazy bones." Sky was growing tired of the lazy jokes. They proceeded to walk down the street, taking a right as it ended abruptly. They both just silently walked and walked for about ten minutes without saying many words to one another. Every minute or so, one of them would try to break the awkward silence by making a comment about the scenery or about school, but none of their attempts blossomed into a full on conversation.

"Want to play a game or something?" Vincent asked out of the blue.

"Uh, sure," Sky replied, "what kind of game?"

"Umm, I don't know." Although Vincent claimed he didn't know, he had a perfect idea of what he wanted to 'play'. "Want to play 20 questions?"

"Sure. How do you play?"

"Well, all you have to do is think of a question and ask it. Then after I answer, I'll ask you a question. Then we just go back and forth and back and forth. Make sense?"

"Yea, I think so."

"You go first." Vincent looked down at his paws and rubbed his thumbs together. He had something on his mind that he wanted to clear up. He felt that of all of the 'friends' he had, Sky would be the only one to accept his true gay nature. Sky would be the only person that would be able to understand. He just hoped that he was right.

"Uh, who's your favorite teacher?" Sky asked. Vincent busted into laughter and rudely mocked Sky's question. "What's so funny?" He was both laughing and insulted.

"You can ask me any question you want. Any question in the whole wide world and you chose that? Kind of pathetic."

"Well you think you can do better?"

"Any question is better than that!"

"Just answer it you ass." He gave Vince a playful punch on the shoulder.

"Of all the teachers in the whole school, probably Mrs. Fairwood."

"Eww," Sky quivered, "she's such a witch."

"Hey, you asked me and I answered; you don't get to judge."

"Fine, then it's your turn." Vincent looked up at the stars. He started to bite his lip as he pretended to be thinking of a question. Of all times to ask Sky, now would be the time.

"What do you think of gay people?" He looked over at Skylar to read his reaction, but it was as clear as air. Sky stared back with wide eyes and his voice began to shake a little. This scared Vince.

"Why do you ask?" Skylar responded in fear that he had been found out.

"Just answer the question." His face was serious.

"Uh, I don't know. I don't have a problem with them at all or anything. I mean if you don't then I don't."

"Well, have you ever thought about what it would be like to live as an openly gay guy? People always making fun of you, every guy you meet thinks you're hitting on them, I imagine it'd be pretty tough."

"Yea it would be tough," Sky replied, trying to get Vince comfortable with the idea of being gay, "but you are who you are and nobody can change that. If you're gay, then make the world deal with it. It's your life, not theirs."

Vince looked up and into Skylar's eyes. The things that he was saying were so deep and meaningful. For the first time in their relationship, Vince was starting to look past their friendship and onto something deeper. Maybe there was more the Skylar than the buddy he hung out with from day to day. Maybe he had a caring and passionate soul. Maybe he didn't need Alex after all. Skylar continued to shake as his anxiety overwhelmed him.

"Well," Vince replied nervously, "what if I was gay? What would you think of me?" They both stopped walking and stood face to face, eye to eye. They stared deep into each other's pupils and tried to read each other's minds. Sky took a deep breath in.

"I wouldn't mind at all if you were gay." A sense of relief passed over Vince as a cloud of fear passed over Sky. He was building his confidence as much as he possible could to ask the same question back. "What if I was gay?"

"I wouldn't mind at all. It'd be nice to have a gay friend, you know?"

"Yea. It would be very nice." Sky took a step closer. "Well, what if we both were gay?" They both took in a large inhale of oxygen and refused to break eye contact. If it was any place, it would be here. If it was any time, it would be now.

"Well, what if we were?" Vince replied. He took one more step closer to the point that their bodies were touching. Their chests met up with one another, their feet met up with one another, and their waists met up with one another. Sky stood still and waited for Vince to make the final move.

Vince reached his paws forward and grabbed Sky's paws tight. They interlocked their fingers and continued to stare into each other's eyes. Sky's smile grew wide and his eyes began to light up bright baby blue as Vincent moved forward for the ultimate risk. Their lips locked tight and they both closed their eyes.

So much emotion, so much passion. This one kiss sent sparks lighting the nerves throughout their entire bodies. The kiss that they shared contained no lust whatsoever. It included no sloppy saliva and no wild tongues. It was simply a lip lock between two boys that opened a passageway between their hearts. The moonlight shone down perfectly and the entire night was lit with happiness. Pure bliss shot through the air.

Vincent pulled back and looked down at his best friend. His smile was wide and his eyes still sparkling. Sky closed his eyes tight and opened them once again, trying to blast away this dream he was having, but the dream did not subside. He pressed his eyelids closed a second time and ripped them back open, but still Vince stood there with his hands wrapped around Sky's. This wasn't a dream

Vincent continued to stare at Sky until something behind his friend caught his eye. He jerked his eyes up and squinted to get a good view of the distance. Sky noticed that Vincent was distracted and quickly followed his eyes. "What are you looking at?" he asked softly.

"How old is your little brother?" Vince replied, still squinting.

"He's 12, turning 13 soon. Why?"

"Because I think that might be him hiding in those bushes." He pointed his claw out towards some shrubbery about a street down and Sky quickly tracked that spot down. Vince was right.

"Damien!" Sky screamed out in anger, "Damien, you little munchkin!" He stormed towards his sibling as Vincent followed close behind. Whatever just happened between Vincent and Skylar, his little brother just saw it all.

***

"Wake up sleepy head!" Chris screamed loudly throughout the room, "it's a beautiful day outside, get up, get up, get up!"

Blake stretched his arms out wide and yawned as wide as his jowls would let him. He looked up at his boyfriend, examining the large orange tray in his hands. "What are you doing here Chris?"

"It's our 13th monthiversary silly! Will always celebrate our monthiversaries!" Chris lightly set the tray down on Blake's lap as he sat up straight in his bed. "What better way to celebrate than making my love some breakfast in bed?"

Blake glanced down at the plates that were scattered across the tray. In one plate, there were strawberry slices cut into the shape of a heart. On the other side, there were pancakes with bacon covered on the top shaped as a smiley face.

Blake was very delighted and excited about the gift he had received from his boyfriend, but at the same time, he couldn't help but feel guilty. He hadn't told him about his encounter with Alex and he wasn't even sure if he was going to.

"Come on, eat! It's your favorite! Bacon, pancakes, strawberries, and OJ, the juice to start a great day!" His smile was beaming from ear to ear and Blake could see it shining, but it wasn't enough to make him forget about the horrible thing he had done. "Is everything okay?" Chris asked him.

"Yea! Yea, everything is fine. I'm just feeling a little sick you know? I think I may have caught something."

"Oh no!" Chris said as he gave him a kiss on the head, "you probably caught something while you were with Alex. Maybe you're allergic to something at his house." He looked down at the plate he had made once again when a thought hit him like a speeding semi-truck. "Oh cow!" he yelled, "I forgot your syrup! Let me go grab that real quick."

He jumped up and quickly jogged for the door. Just a step away from exiting, he stopped in his tracks and grabbed onto the door frame. "Hey Blake?" he asked softly.

"Yea honey?" Blake replied, staring back at the smiley on his pancakes. Chris' tone grew worried, but he tried to cheer himself up with a chuckle.

"I know it's probably just me being the paranoid jealous boyfriend again, but I can trust you around Alex right? I mean I know you wouldn't do anything, but it's just nice to hear it from you." Blake silently shed a tear.

"Yea of course babe, you know I'd never cheat on you." Blake kept his head low so that no one could see his tear.

"Thank you sweetheart," Chris replied before letting go of the frame and walking out of the door.

'It was only a kiss, right?' Blake thought silently to himself, "A very long kiss that may have lasted about 10 minutes, but it was still only a kiss. I didn't go too far, I didn't have sex with him, so it's not cheating, right? Maybe if that fox hadn't walked in... It doesn't matter. I didn't have sex, and it's not cheating if I didn't have sex. It was only a kiss.' His thoughts continued to drift as he stared into his plate. 'Only a kiss.'
