#8 of King

"There no way in hell that I'm wearing white!" Brandon frowned as he crossed his arms over his chest. Zel had brought up a white suit, much like the clothing he wore when he was en year old, it was all white save for a bit of blue on the side and around the chest, holding the crest of his family in the middle, and a gold chain that held the blue cape that would go down his back.

"Why not?" she asked crossing her own arms. "I think it would make you look mighty cute."

"That's the reason right there!" he went on bringing his arms up. "I am not cute, or not to be cute. If I'm to be king one day I have to hold up a strong look!" Zel only rolled her eyes. Tentra was busy herself getting ready for the ball, the females drakes and dragons that were invited, thinking that this year they would have a better chance at being the prince's mate were already pouring in. Last year, Brandon overheard that the number of guest were close to one hundred, and that was not all of them, some of them couldn't make it for reason they said it was too far to get there at the time, but now, they were able to come.

"Just try it,"

"No," he answered blankly.

"Try it,"

"No!" he shot back as Zel began to get angry. "You can't make me wear that thing!"

"Oh really?" she raised one of her eye ridges as he nodded. "Then what if I told Tentra about that time your best friend when you were younger was hitting on you, and he was male." Brandon eyes locked into place with hers' as she only smiled, still holding the clothing in her claws.

"You wouldn't," he growled slightly as Zel only smirked.

"Try me," she answered as Brandon glared and snatched the white clothing from her and went to change behind the door.

"You know," she heard him speak. "For an ex-nanny of mine, you are truly a bitch." Zel only chuckled softly as she heard him get dress, his old clothing that he discarded beside him as he would start to dress in his ball clothing.

"You want to look your best for your mate don't you?" she asked as Brandon only sighed, placing the under shirt on as he nodded slightly.

"Yes," he answered. "I do, but still; I always hated wearing white."

"But you look sooo..."

"Don't say it!" he cried as he walked out, showing how he looked. After adding everything onto the suit that was needed, Brandon wore the suit as the hood that went with it hung from his back. A sliver plating on his left shoulder, with a leather belt that went from the plate, to the belt he had that also held the crest of his family in the middle of his belt. His cape whit eon the outside, but blue on the inside as he turned his body to look at himself, a slight sigh as Zel smiled softly. "Don't say it," he repeated as he left the confound of his room.

The main chamber where the balls would always be held were transformed, everything cleaned that it almost sparkled, a long red mat was seen at the door, the floor shone a bit, table filled with food and drinks, band playing soft music in the background. Already many were there, fathers of the daughter that were here, speaking to Zaptor, who wore his golden armour, but replaced his heavy chest plate, with a much smaller and lighter one, like chain main almost. He nodded to his son and motioned him over with the curl of his fingers, and as he moved closer, he noticed that his father was speaking to three other dragons, triples at that. All three were a hue of both green and yellow. The yellow curling around their legs and arms as if a chain was wrapped round them, not in fact scales. If anyone were to see them a few years back, they could never tell them apart, but now, with one of the twin's eye being removed from battle, the other with a scar on his lip and the last who lost one horn, which curled forward like a goat horn; they were easy now to see who was who.

"Ah son," Zaptor spoke softly. "I'm glad you're here, the ladies will be here soon, so I wish to tell and share something with you that just came to my ears." Today Zaptor was going to tell Brandon what he found out from Zel, but he thought that this was more importing at the moment.

"What is it father?" Asked Brandon then looking at the three dragons before him. "Ah, lords, it's been a while hasn't it?" he asked once more to the three. "When did we last meet again?"

"About a year ago," the one with the missing horn answered. "I believed my daughter was trying to keep the other females away from you so she could keep her all to herself." This caused Brandon to laugh slightly. His daughter, holding the same green color as he, but no yellow, which she got from her mother, had tried like the dragon before him told him. As Brandon told Zel later after that year, that the dragoness acted like a spoil princess, truth be told, she only wanted to be Brandon mate so she could be princess and do whatever she wanted. Brandon knew this, so that's why he would never be here mate, even if he didn't have one right now. "Speaking of which, I think she looking fro you now," turning around, Brandon cursed under his breath as he moved back toward the dragons as they followed his lead, laughing a bit as the stood by a wall.

"So what is it that you brought me here for father?" asked Brandon once more as Zaptor nodded.

"It seemed," he started. "That Trent, Boulder, and Fissure here found some information, which I thought you should hear. You are to be king one day, so I thought might as well show you how and what happens at times like this." Fissure, the one who was talking about his daughter, spoke again as he slowly shook his head.

"It seemed another dragon village had fallen to the hands of the humans," he spoke as the other four listened. "All but one was able to escape, or as she said, let her escape."

"How so, and what do you mean, 'all but one'?"

"I mean," he answered bringing a claw over his scar lip. "The dragons of seventy-five, or seventy-four, are dead." Brandon was shocked at this, he knew that even with a dragon who was not trained to use swords or knives, it would still take a great deal of human fighting to kill them, so his first thought that a army of humans came in.

"But how could a army of humans go unnoticed?" he asked as Boulder shook his head slightly.

"You don't get it Prince Brandon," he said low like. "Only five humans killed them all."

"F...five?!" he screamed backing away as Zaptor also seemed shocked.

"How can this be?" he demanded as the three shook their head at the same time.

"What the dragoness told us," Trent answered moving his slightly smaller tail now. "Is that they used weird looking tools that made sound of thunder, and shot blast of lights, and when the sound was heard, everyone around her was dying. There was one human, dressed unlike she had ever seen, long white hair and gold eyes who was there, giving the orders around. He himself looked like he knew more about these tools of killing." HE pulled out a small gold plated casing, when Brandon took it in his hand, he found that it held marking on the bottom, markings he could never understand. "The Dragoness told yes that these were ether found in the bodies of the ones who died, or on the ground."

"How can something this small," asked Zaptor also looking at it. "Kill a dragon or drake?"

"That is something we all wish to know King Zaptor," Trent went on. "Somehow, the humans found a way to easily kill us, I do not mean to sound like a coward; but I think they may be able to kill us all..."

Brandon flinched a bit, remembering when the Goddess took him to see what the world would hold, a world without dragons and drakes, and how much it had changed. He shook his head; the Goddess did say that the world he saw would never happen in his time while he was still mortal. And he did agree like she said, speak to the stars and say yes, which he did; but still, he wanted to think there would be a way to keep the dragons and drakes from years to come from just dyeing out, there had to be. As Brandon looked around, he came to notice that many of the dragoness or female drakes had mates of their own, any of them he had seen asking him to be their mates. He was glad that at least they had found happiness with someone, and he wouldn't be bothering by many; and could spend his time with Tentra.

"But we are now keeping you Brandon," Zaptor spoke as Brandon looked back up to him. "Go on and enjoy yourself,"

"As you wish father," he answered with a slight nod and went off.

Since he could not find Tentra, he and many of the other male dragons or drakes that came, started to talk, as well as females would speak amongst themselves. It was still a little early to start the ball, and he had to find something to do. The same questions he was always asked seemed to be the most interesting topic, what it was like to be prince. He would always sigh and tell them that he was always a prince, so he would never know what it was like being something else then he already was. He learned that a few of them worked with their fathers in the blacksmiths, seeing on how large their arms were, or some of them were Guardians in training as well. The human told them that he that he was trained by his Guardian, and said he wouldn't mind having a sparring match one time.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Prince Brandon," Brandon body stiffen a bit when he heard the voice behind him, to the one who owned it, tried to make their voice sound as cute and loving as possible. Turning around, he groaned as he saw the very dragoness that was the daughter of one of the triplets, Gage.

Her wings folded behind her back as she wore a long blue dress, stones embedded around the sides and front, making it gleam in the light that was all around them. She held horns that were backwards from her father, two horns on each of her cheek, her long tail swaying softly as she looked to Brandon with large green eyes.

"Hello Gage," he answered as the dragoness smiled lightly showing her teeth, the dragons and drakes he was speaking too slowly made their way away, so that the two could speak alone. "What is it that you want?"

"Oh I thought I just come and meet my mate," she answered moving closer to him, her tail brushing on her leg, these making him jump slightly. She knew he hated it when she did that, but yet, anytime she came over, ball or something else; she would always do that. "Is that so wrong, me just trying to spend some time with you?" Brandon only groaned, rubbing his eyes as she only giggled slightly. "And might I say, white really suits you."

"I'm getting at a lot today," he answered rolling his eyes. "Don't you have a date this time?" she only gave him a small smile as he frowned. "No, I will not be your date."

"Aw, how come?" she asked moving closer, just like Nixi, she held breast as well, which she made press up to his own chest causing him to flutter and flush deep red as he looked away.

"I have a mate now,"

"Oh really then?" she asked putting her arm around his own. "And where is this 'mate' of yours?" She did have a point, Brandon hadn't seen Tentra since she left in the morning to get the dress ready for the last few touches, and she didn't even tell him what it looked liked, saying she wanted him to be shocked beyond belief.

"She's getting ready," he answered moving away from her as he stared to walk toward where the drinks were, a servant bowing slightly as he passed him a sliver cup with rubies on the side as he took a small drink, nodding showing he liked it.

"Then why not spend some time with me while we wait for her, if she's even real." She chuckled as he only groaned taking another drink. "And since when do you drink?"

"Since now when you got here..." he muttered under his breath as her ear perked a bit.

What was that?" she asked tilting her head as Brandon shook his head.

"Nothing, nothing," he answered. "Look, Gage, I really do have a mate alright, and you have to understand, I don't want to be with you even if I didn't have a mate!"

"You always say that Brandon," she answered moving closer again. "And what do I always say?" Brandon groaned looking away.

"You always say that I don't really mean it that we are to be together blah, blah, blah..." she only smirked and leaned closer.

"And if you didn't have feelings for me, then why did you remember that?"

"Let's see," he thought for a moment. "You've been coming here for ten years, been here more times then the other females because of your father and my father being a best of friends so I would hear it ever few months. And whenever you were here you would bug me about being your mate, should I go on?" he asked turning to her as she smiled even larger.

"But you loved all of that didn't you?"

"Agh!" he exclaimed as he started to walk away with her coming behind. "Gage for the last time, I.Do.Not.Love.YOU!" Gage only stopped and blinked for a moment as she only rolled her eyes.

"Then answer me this Brandon, where is your mate?"

"Right here,"

Brandon looked beyond Gage, ad smiled lightly when he saw that it was Tentra that stood behind the dragoness, then when he fully saw it was her, his jaw nearly dropped. She wore a long purple dress, yellow going down the side like a strip as she wore a head dress like a crown which held a thin cloth that went down behind her head. A necklace Brandon remembered which belonged to Zel, which looked to be a red rose with a heart in the middle dangled over her chest, her scales and nails polished to a shine.

"Wow..." Bandon gasped as Gage snared at the drake as Tentra turned to her.

"And who are you?" she asked as Gage walked up to her face.

"My name is Gage, and you better be joking when you're saying you're his mate!"

"Nope," she answered with a smile. "We are mates." With that, she moved over to the human, and kissed him deeply, her arms around his neck as he too held her waist. Gage eyes nearly popped out of her head as her fist clutched tightly. She was about to do something when they broke from their embrace to look at her. Gage only giving them a glare, more to Tentra then to Brandon, she would've swore, done anything to release her rage at the female holding the prince right now, but all she did; was force a smile.

"Well then," she answered still holding the same smile, which seemed to twitch at times. "I do so hope you two enjoy yourselves," and with that, she just turn and walked away.

"I don't like how she did that," Brandon spoke once Gage was nowhere to be seen.

"How so?" asked Tentra looking up at him.

"I've known Gage nearly my whole life," he answered. "When she wants something, she'll work for it in anyway to get it; trust me, I've seen it first hand."

"You think she might be planning a way to get you?" asked Tentra as Brandon only sighed and scratched his head.

"Truth be told, it's hard to think of what that dragoness is thinking of at times." He gave a small laugh before turning to look at Tentra. "But you...wow...you look amazing!" because of her green scales, her blush was easily seen as she looked down.

"You think so?" she asked as Brandon nodded tilting her chin up to look at him.

"Yes," he answered as she smiled up at him. The band which always came to balls such as these, started to play some soft slow music. Brandon looked over at them for a moment, seeing many of the couples already at the dance floor, slowly moving to the beat of the music. Looking at his newly mate, he held out his left hand, his right held behind his back, as he bowed slightly to her; causing her to giggle slightly, before taking his hand as he led her to the dance floor.

Still holding the paw in his hand, he held it outward, taking his other hand and placing it on her waist, she placing her free paw on his shoulder. Nether could really dance, so all they did was slowly sway left and right on the floor, as Tentra moved closer, leaning her head on his shoulder.

"Brandon?" she asked not looking at him.

"Yes Tentra?" he answered looking at her.

"When you said, that you came to save me because of a favour from a mother...did you mean my mother?" Brandon eyes dropped as he looked away for a moment, before nodding.

"Yeah," he answered. "A few days before her...passing, she asked me to care for her if something were to happen to her, I told her I would, because it hit close to home."

"You mean Zaptor?" she asked as he nodded, they started to spin in a circle, as well as a few others on the floor.

"Yes," he answered. "When my father found my mother dying, she asked him to find someone to care for me, I'm glad he chose to care for me as his own though, but still...I wonder who my father is. Speaking of which, what about your father?"

"My mother told me when I was older, that he left when he found that she was caring his egg, at first he tried to convince her to just get rid of me when my egg was out, she almost did; she never did tell me why she changed her mind."

"I'm glad she did," the human answered still moving their body to the soft beat of music. "For I would've never met someone like you." She pulled away and smiled at him, as the two leaned in to kiss, the sound of a blood like scream followed by thundering popping noises were heard from outside the chambers doors. Brandon head snapped toward the door as well as everyone else as the guards held their spears at the ready for the sound were becoming louder and louder. "Tentra..." Brandon whispered. "Get yourself away from here, get by the walls and do not move."

"Brandon!" she cried.

"Don't worry," he told her looking at her with a small smile. "Everything will be fine." She watched him, as he nodded again. She slowly nodded and let go of her arm as he went over to one of the wall and pulled off the sword and shield and hung from it. Moving to the front line where the guards were, his father as well as some of the male dragons and drakes who came, also took to arms, waiting to see what was on the other side.

The outside become silence, not a word or air was breathed as they held their weapons at the ready. The large wooden door slowly opened just a bit, enough for someone head to fit into, when something small and round was thrown in. Everyone watched as whatever it was rolled toward them, and then stopped at one of the guard feet. Going to pick it up, he held it in his claws and turned to everyone else.

"What is-?" he was cut off as the small ball exploded, not even his screams were heard as the pieces of his body were flung around everywhere. Everyone cried out in surprised at the attack as well as the loud banging sound from within the small tool. The door was then shattered into pieces, the force so strong that it sent the first wave of guards flinging backwards, skidding on the ground as pieces of wood stuck from their bodies. Some were able to act quickly and knelt to the ground and brought the shields to cover their bodies Zaptor moving to his son side, overlapping his side with Brandon, so that not much hit the human, but he was clipped on the shoulder, hard enough to draw blood and break his arm. But still he held his ground until the cluttering sound of the wood hitting the ground was heard, dropping his shield to hold his arm, Zaptor hissed and growled in pain as Brandon went over to see how he was doing. Looking around he saw a few of the bystanders was also injured, many were trying to pull them away from the door, and not knowing what could cause it to burst like it did. The sound of feet clapping on the ground caused Brandon to look over, seeing four human, holding weapons he had never seen before running in, each taking an area, pointing them at a section of the room.

The last human to walk in, hair as white as unpainted walls, spiked up front, and spiked downward on the side of his face. His eyes gold as his father scales, and as he walked in, a weapon also unlike Brandon seen before, small and sliver hung from his waist. He wore leggings which three sliver lines on each side, his shirt tight and white as he stopped, and arms crossed and one leg behind the other, the toe touching the ground.

"So you're Prince Brandon huh?" he asked while tapping his fingers on his right arm. "Hrm, the only human to be known to soon rule over the dragons, yet, is human," he started to chuckle a bit. "Quite funny how you're a creature who these beasts are fighting to destroy."

"We aren't trying to kill off the humans you fool!" roared Zaptor as Brandon helped him on his feet. "We only kill because we need to defend, the sooner your king stops attacking us, the sooner we can live in peace away from the other!"

"Oh save your peace talk for the hippies," The human rolled his eyes. "Because Terra really doesn't care." Zaptor winced and struggled to stay on his feet as Brandon held him up more as the old dragon turned to him slowly.

"Brandon..." he gasped. "Listen to me carefully, if we don't make it, because I know these are the human that killed off that village...I need you know something."

"Father you shouldn't talk like that!" Brandon glared hard at him. "We are going to make it; we are, so save it until after we kill these bastards!" Zaptor chuckled lightly and placed his good claw on his shoulder.

"I still wish to tell you though...please..."

"Oh can someone shut this lizard up? You there," he pointed to the closest human beside him. "Do it,"

"No!" Brandon picked up his shield and threw it at the human as he raised his weapon, but before the shield could hit his head, digging itself almost halfway though as he started to fall backwards, the loud shocking bang was heard from before, followed by the light Brandon was told back, and Zaptor roaring scream.

Zaptor fell backwards; a hole was seen on the chest plate of his armour, as he fell back hard, the sound of metal banging floor echoed as the dragons and drake watching stood in shock. Brandon turned quickly to his father as the other humans raised to shoot, but Terra brought his arm up. Shaking his head with a smile, he wanted to see where this would lead.

"Father!" cried Brandon as the guards moved closer, holding their spears and swords at the ready as the other also moved closer to better help. "Father!" once seeing the hole he went to the dragon side and tore off the chest plate, seeing on the inside that even his chest was shot though blood pouring around him as Brandon knelt in it; keeping his hand on the wound, his father groaned loudly, for the more he pressed, the more blood seeped out.

"Don't...worry about me...son," he almost answered in a whisper. "Guess...this is...my time..."

"Shut up!" Brandon cried, almost wanting to punch the dragon in the face. "I...I can heal you, I know I can!"

"Son..." Zaptor whisper. "Whatever they used...it sliced my heart...and I know you can't heal origins..."

"No..." Brandon hands tightened on his chest as the tears started to well in his eyes. "I...I can try...I can try and..."

"It's alright..." Zaptor smiled and placed a claw on his shoulder. "I know the kingdom will be in good hands...with you..."

"I'm...I'm not ready!" he sobbed closing his eyes as he openly wept. "I can't take your place yet!" all the while Terra was smiling behind his back watching the sorrow unfold before him. Zaptor looked lower, taking his golden sword, black markings written in dragon tongue that was seen on the blade it self gleamed in the blood as he pulled it over to his son. As Brandon looked over, he saw his father try to lift it, leaning his own hand down; he grasped it by the hilt, just below his claw.

"You are ready son," he answered. "And to prove it, I am giving you my sword, a sword made for the king." He released the hilt as Brandon was no solely holding it. "Brandon...listen to me, Zel had found your father...and I wish I could tell you under better...grounds..." eh coughed as blood splattered on Brandon face as he clutched at his chest. "I...couldn't believe it at first...but I am that father Brandon..." Brandon only blinked in confusion, as his father, his blood father last words started to come. "I loved your mother son...my first mate agreed that I could take Alice as a second mate, for it was not uncommon for this to happen; but...when she left and never returned...I...I was too worried about my first born son then to go looking for her. For that, I am sorry." He closed his eyes and lean back slowly as his chest raised and lowered slowly.

"Father..." Brandon gasp as the dragon chest rose no more.

"So Sage was right!" Terra laughed loudly as Brandon head was still held down over his father body. "You really are a freak, your half human half dragon, and yet you couldn't even save the lizard!" the guards growled, ready to fight for their passing king name when Brandon slowly stood p, his blond hair covering his face mostly.

"Move..." he spoke softly as the guards looked to him in surprised. "I want you to make sure the ones who can't fight are protected."

"Your...majesty?" asked one as Brandon brought the blade up to his chest, griping the hilt and pulling out the blade as it gleamed in the light.

"Do it," he spoke again as they nodded, moving away as Brandon was the only one left, save for the four humans on the other side. Terra moving forward a bit, picking up a sword one of the dead dragons dropped.

"You three don't shot him," Terra smirked more. "I want to have some fun with this one."

"Yes sir," they nodded and brought their weapons down as Terra moved forward as Brandon still held his back to him.

"You should've just came with Sage the first time," he told the half breed holding the sword out. "Maybe all of this would've been evaded, maybe not," he shrugged lightly. "What she thinks of at times, is a mystery to me." Brandon hand tighten on the hilt as he slowly turned his head, his blue eyes seem to glow, burning with hatred, as he slowly turned more of his body until he was looking at Terra fully, Terra saw the rage in his eyes and only smiled pulling the sword up. "I may not be able to kill you, but just like Sage tried, I'll just hurt you enough until you..." he never finished as Brandon ran forward and brought the sword to his own, pushing him back with sheer force as Terra's eyes grew wide in shock as Brandon just glared hard at him, twisting his foot on the ground as he brought his body up, spinning his waist and kicking the side of Terra's face hard causing him to roll toward the side as Brandon landed and jumped forward roaring in anger with blade held high, a blue aura twisting around it. Terra saw this and rolled away once more as the tip of the blue eye being sword hit the ground, causing it to creak in places on the ground, even a bit of the floor flew up from the force of the attack. Again Brandon only turned to look at Terra as he got to his feet, watching as the blade glowed the blue around it as he glared and backed away. "Screw this, shoot him!" the three humans brought up their weapons and started to fire, Brandon body jerking as small bit of blood were seen coming from his front and back, as he fell forward, but brought his knee to the ground and held his arms out. All he was doing was breathing heavily as he looked up, his eyes all blue, his black pupils' not even seen.

Standing up, he held the blade out, his other hand glowing blue and before the next human could fire, he flicked his wrist, a torrent of flames engulfing him as the scream of him were heard as the others watched with fear and shock.

"Just what are you!?" demanded Terra as he backed away as Brandon moved forward, his body holding the same aura that was wrapping around his sword was seen. He didn't answer as he ran forward, blade held up as Terra pushed the next men before him as Brandon just slashed though him, a clean cut as blood pour from the dead body, with only two left, Terra was a little worried now until the portal that Sage made came behind him.

"What is taking so long to get this..." she saw Brandon, seeing the power he was wielding first hand as her eyes widened. "Impossible!" she exclaimed as Terra looked toward her.

"What is this?!" he asked as she only watched as Brandon ran toward them, screaming as she just grabbed the white hair human and pulled him in, leaving the last men with the weapon alone as he too screamed, before silenced forever by Brandon's blade.

Looking around at the dead bodies around him, Brandon's eyes were half open, as if he was tried. He was still bleeding slightly, but he didn't seem to care about the pain as he turned to look at the eyes looking at him. His body glowing once more, eyes closed as the same casting found in the bodies of the dragons from the village fell from his body that did not go though, his wounds healing as he opened his eyes once more, the same as they were before, before he dropped the sword and fell forward on the ground, tasting blood.

Brandon holding powers unlike anyone had seen before, now the King of the Dragons and Drake, and just finding out that his father was truly the one he called his own father. Sage seemed to know something about Brandon's newfound powers, but before telling Terra, she took him into her portal to a place no one but herself knowing. With wounds healed, Brandon fell forward from the lack of strength. What will happen to the new king of the Dragons and Drake now, and why did Gage just leave when she found out that Brandon truly had a mate? Tune in next time in the next chapter of...
