Chpt.5. dark cloud

To say the mood was depressing would be over exaggerating, no one talked, the sun scorched desert was so quite u could hear a pin drop, it felt like I was breaking inside...

"Alright there is a gas station 3 clicks up the road from here, we can stop there for a rest!" Luke shouted out over the open desert, there was no response from anyone, Lukes command echoed over the barren desert as the four pairs of feet shuffled along the road kicking sand away in their wake. It seemed like the 3 kilometre walk had taken hours, but our detonation was finally in sight.

On approach to the old excuse for a petrol (British word for gas) station we began to hear the creaking of the prehistoric, rusted sheet metal panels, which were being moved by a gentle breeze. Upon arrival Sam and john began fortifying the petrol station with the rusted metal sheets so we could get a good hour or two rest. I walked back into the main room after clearing the building and sit my equipment down in the corner beside a semi-working fridge, and slid down the face of the cold fridge with my bare back until I hit the floor. I dropped my head into my paws and took a deep breath in and then out. I closed my eyes as I reached into my blood spattered combat trousers and lifted out an old folded up, crumpled picture and opened my eyes as I began unfolding it, the two pictures slid apart, one of me looking proud in my uniform with my family around me, and the other of me and Matthew in our swimwear in the ocean at Ibiza. I paused for a moment and then tears began streaming down my face and my head fell back into my paws, the tears making them wet.

Luke came running over to me and rapped his arm around me and asked me and asked me if I was okay I replied by saying

"I don't wanna live to waste another day

Underneath the shadows of mistakes I've made

'Cuz I feel like I'm breaking inside..."

He squeezed his right arm round my neck and told me "dude it ok its not your, what happened, happened, and there was no way of stopping it. You did the right thing."

John interrupted by telling us we should all get some rest, so on the way back over to lukes spot he made sure everything was locked up tight before we all went to sleep.

The sun caught my eye and woke me up I checked my watch, it was 17:30, plenty of time to get to the airfield I thought, I then proceed to gather myself and my emotion breathing out deeply and began waking everyone, and then the hike began 20 kilometres to cover before sunset, then the trek began I placed my earphones in after charging my iPod in the service station, hit shuffle and, californication by the red hot chilli peppers came on. I then reached into the top pocket of my body armour and drew a pack of red malboro 100's out with a bullet hole right through the middle of the packet, after inspecting the box and picking out the least harmed cigarette I raised to my muzzle and struck a match of my body armour, proceeding to light it, throw away the match and take a draw of the cigarette. I exhaled the plume of smoke and lifted the smouldering I tube to my fore head to pull my ray ban aviator sunglasses down, then placed it back in my mouth, whilst looking at the sun, wondering the next time I will see it set...
