Illusionist

Walking down the halls of Illusionist 5th grade in the school called "Black"; Alex Pierce sat down on a nearby bench. He was sixteen with blond hair, blue eyes, and average physic. "Nothing can be worse than this." He thought as he examined his Ark on his hand. Alex's Ark was broken, cracked in half down the middle. "I should have never fallen back when I saw the shadow." Alex mumbled to himself as he tried to move the bracelet back together again. The golden strings that were broke are irreplaceable. They intertwine with someone's feelings. They become you. There is no way to replace an ark unless you get a completely different new one. Alex's Ark must have reached a breaking point.

Arks were magical objects that captured energy around a person, and releasing it to the outside environment. Most people have a unique style of how they use their Ark. Some people fight in tournaments with their Ark while others use them to hunt down bandits, or monsters that try to enter Millennium through the barrier. Millennium was the town Alex lived in. He has known it for all his life. Cities were on the other side of the barrier also. Many were at war with each other. Millennium was at war with Quartz, a continent past the barrier and to the North. A barrier enclosed the city to keep monsters from coming in from the outside world. It was also to keep people on the outside.

Alex has always wanted to go out of the barrier, to explore the world that was so close to his fingertips. To do that though, you have to be a 9th grade Illusionist. Alex was only a 5th grade Illusionist. He was a 3rd grade Transformist, and a 7th grade Destructio. Transformists are able to transform their outside environment, and themselves to adapt to a certain situation. Destructios were people who used their Arks with nature. They could move water, fire, and earth to their will. This interested Alex the most, and he already was a 9th grade. He needs to become a 9th grade Illusionist if he wants to go anywhere outside the barrier. Transformists are not usually needed outside the barrier so you only need to be a 3rd grade to be outside the barrier.

Grades are usually determined if you have a natural inclination towards something, or if you are just good at it. Alex's father was more of a Destructio so it was normal for him to be one. Alex barley talks about him. He died when he was very young. He knew almost nothing about him. All that Alex's father told him was he specialized in Illusion. A loud clang flew across the building's white walls. Alex threw down the Ark in frustration. "What will I tell my teacher!?!" He yelled loudly. Alex then looked over to the golden bracelet with eyes of remorse. It has been through a lot. He decided to lean over, and pick it up. With light arms, just in case the golden ropes inside the Ark still held energy, he carried it to his next class. Some stories of people getting blown up are true. If a broken Ark has energy left in it, it will blow up if the ropes are touched wrongly.

Alex stumbled into grade 3rd of Transformation.

I glanced out the window while sitting at my desk, thinking about what was outside the barrier, if I would encounter monsters, bandits, or a paradise. The blue barrier shined brightly outside, separating me from the outside I wanted to go to. Then something moved by my line of vision. It looked like a wolf. Maybe it was a transformist? I quickly shook the thought away from my head. The teacher ahead was writing things down frantically, maybe I should pay attention. I never was really into transformation, but if it gets me outside then so be it.

The teacher's name was Mr. Claw. He always flaunted how he can turn into a wolf without even blinking. That's why I did not like him. His arrogance is like a vapor, and its surrounding me.

"Alex, are you done day dreaming?" Mr. Claw said loudly so the rest of the class could hear. I jumped in my seat. Everyone started to laugh. I turned a very bright red, while shuffling in my seat. I looked up to see the teacher grinning, time to wipe the smirk off his face.

"No, just thinking about the outside." I said while making it seem like I was not fazed by his comment. The teacher moved his gaze to more of a scowl, his black hair and red eyes reflected something. Pain maybe? "Fine then, if you seem confident about not learning the lesson, why don't you show the class how to transform?" He said while his grin was coming back. I felt the need to walk up to him and punch him across the face. "I would love to." I said sarcastically, "But my Ark is broken." I said while holding up my wrist so he noticed the golden bracelet. The strings inside were clearly visible. Mr. Claw looked like he was about to have a huge explosion.

"Damn, those don't come cheap you know. You can barrow my sisters for today. Next time, come here prepared." He said while reaching into a desk, pulling out an Ark that had a red tint in the metal. Mr. Claw never mentions his sister. I was surprised he even handed me the Ark. Whenever the class asks about his sister, he says "Something I do not wish to talk about", and then he continues with the lesson. That's why I never wish harm upon him, even if he is a totally jerk. He does not deserve more pain. Nevertheless, using another person's Ark is one of the most dangerous things you can do. That's why the whole class started to break out in mumbles. They thought Mr. Claw was trying to kill me.

I did not think about why Mr. Claw wanted me to put on his sister's Ark, but I might as well follow along in his game. I decided to take off the golden Ark on my wrist, feeling the cold metal leave me. It felt like throwing away a brother that lived with you all your life. I then put on the red tinted Ark around my wrist. It started to use all these weird symbols, like I was reacting with it somehow. Then it stopped. I felt something I would not have even realized, a surge of energy passed through my body. It moved up my legs and to my brain. I was blown back, but I did not want to worry anybody so I acted like nothing happened. The Ark started to feel warm, like it knew me from the past.

"Well Alex, why don't you show the class how to transform..." Mr. Claw said grinning as he saw me struggle with the situation. Something was not right. It felt like a test. Then I felt it, pain, sorrow, and guilt. It was a wave of emotions I never felt with such intensity. "Well, we are waiting." Mr. Claw said, tapping his foot in anxiety to see me fail.

I grinned, and concentrated. I closed my eyes, imagining myself turning into a full bodied wolf. The thing that most stood out in my mind though was the tail. I felt the Ark spur to life, a rope of words moving around my very existence. I mumbled the words.

"Wolf Noxia."

The words around my body shifted from circling me to forming around me like a cocoon. The characters were something I did not recognize. My mind was then forced back to the situation at hand as I felt a growing ligament forming on my head, and bottom. A tail ripped through my pants. What was growing on my head was a pair of fluffy grey ears. They matched the tail. Then the growing started to fade. The pressure started to go away. And I was left standing at the top of the class half transformed. How embarrassing. I wanted to melt away into nothingness at that moment, but instead of the class reacting with boos, and laughter, they sat at their seats almost dumbfounded at what they saw. Even Mr. Claw was dumbfounded.

"I...never saw an Ark react like that before to a different person." Mr. Claw said. His hand dived for my wrist, and he grabbed it. He tried to pull the Ark off, but it did not come off. It was bonded like a regular Ark. Arks only come off the person if they are broken. The Ark wrapped around my wrist did not even budge. The red tint was still present; I still even had the tail, and ears.

Then I heard Mr. Claw say something I never thought he would say, "If you wish Alex, you may keep the Ark. It is impossible to unbind an Ark that knows its master. My sister is a distant memory.

"Class dismissed."

I walked out of the class with the urge to scream until my lungs gave out. When did Mr. Claw get so nice? I am so confused! I started to walk in the direction of Distructio when I felt a sting across my back. I looked behind me to see Ben Dill beaming. "Dude, you should have told me you could use other people's Arks!" He said while grinning.

"I can't."

"What do you mean you can't? You used Mr. Claw's sister's Ark. You should join the Knights like your fath-"Then Ben stopped.

"Don't talk about my father!" I shouted loudly. My voice carried across the hall, and bounced off the lockers.

"Ok, ok sorry." Ben apologized. "Oh and you do realize that you are still walking around in ears and a tail right?" Ben said while chuckling. "The Ark might have cursed you. I have heard about those. It's nasty black magic. The last time I heard about a curse, a guy in Malucant kept being followed by sharks whenever he went swimming in the ocean and the next curse-"

I spaced out with the rest. The new wolf ears may be sensitive but I was still good at pushing life away from me. It was weird having a dragon tail swishing around in between my legs but I got used to it. The teacher for Destructio was way nicer than Mr. Claw. His name was Moonlight. He was a fully transformed wolf with a red coat and white chest, paws, and muzzle. He had piercing silver eyes. Even with his coat being so intimidating, he was a very nice guy. When I walked in, he gave me a big smile. I was one of his best students and I was admired for my skills with water.

I took my seat by the window, watching a flower in a pot bloom outside. It was the right temp for "Moon Daisies" to bloom. They were called this for their very light silver color. They only bloom when it is below 50 degrees. Some people say they are a sign of bad luck while others say they are a sign of good luck. Most are afraid of them because at night, they bloom the brightest if it is the right temperature. I find them attractive. They remind me of a child that has been pushed aside but is so majestic that it shines even though it has been out casted.

I then surveyed my desk for signs of what we were going to do today. A bright blue jar filled with water was set on the desk. It was my lucky day; we were doing something with water.

I then looked up to see two silver eyes hovering over my desk. It was Moonlight. He was wearing a tight shirt which high-lighted his muscles very clearly and he wore baggy shorts. Besides being the Destructio teacher, he was also out Physical ED teacher and it showed. He used to be human, but he was cursed that turned him into a wolf. It's becoming more and more common these days, people turning into animals.

"You know Alex, there are simpler ways of becoming transformed then growing ears and a tail you know." He grinned while eyeing my new ears and tail. The class laughed loudly and I smiled chuckling myself.

"I think it's just the side affect of transformation. Hopefully it won't last long." I said to Moonlight smiling. Not only did I want to tell Moonlight about the little mishap at Transformation class, but I wanted to reassure myself that it was not a curse I got from the Ark.

"Well whatever you insist. I just don't want you to wake up with claws and scales. Make sure you do get checked for curses ok?" Moonlight said while putting his large paw on my shoulder. I nodded my head frantically. It felt like being hit by a crane. His muscles were so defined. Every curve was either bulging or perfect. I will admit that I do slightly have a man crush on him.

Moonlight winked back at me and smiled, walking back to the front of class. "OK! Now that we got that over, who can tell me what the definition of a "curse" is?" He said loudly so the whole class could hear. Immediately, Ben raised his hand. Ben knows his myths about curses. I usually find him reading up on curses everyday when he is off.

"A curse is an imbalance of energy, which can be pushed onto an Ark. It can cause insane amounts of damage if the curser is advanced. A curse can be stopped by hiring a person to absorb the energy, or absorbing the energy yourself."

"Very good. (Ben went red at these words) That basically sums it up. Now, here comes the fun part, the jars you see in front of you are filled with water. What you want to do is curse the jars. The jars are made from the same metal an Ark is made from, but without the same horrible effects. If these were real Arks, the effects would be way more serious...." Moonlight said in a serious tone. He was cursed himself. With his curse though came different fluctuations. He talked about the curse once in detail. He had a hunger for raw meat for a week.

"Think in your head of what you want to do to the person who touches the jar. Nothing serious though, otherwise I will expel you!" Moonlight added hastily while grinning. His fangs showed and I shuddered. If I was caught between him when he is angry and a madman with an Ark, I would choose the Ark.

"Ready....GO!" He said. I quickly closed my eyes. Why were we even learning about curses anyway? I really doubt I can learn anything from this...

Than out of the blue, the water shoots out from the jar and hits the ceiling of the room. In the front of the class, Moonlight was chuckling. "You might want to control your emotions before something else happens." He said, putting a paw over his mouth. I smirked and started to concentrate again, the Ark on my wrist flaunting the red light violently. First I imagined the person touching the jar for their pants to fall down, and then I imagined something better....

"Time is up. Why don't you switch jars so you can figure out the seriousness of curses on a smaller scale?" Moonlight said while switching his jar with someone on the front row. I switched my jar with Ben who was busy holding back laughter. Probably thinking about the curse he put on the jar. Ben steadily held his jar out for me. I took it, smiling mischievously at what curse I put on my own. He won't realize what he is in for. I hesitantly put the jar on the desk and waited patiently to be cursed. Ben was thinking the same thing, putting the jar down slowly.

Then I felt it, a tugging at my shoe strings as they started to wrap together like they had a mind of their own. They were creating an impossible knot, tangling themselves over and over again. I looked over to marvel at my curse; Ben was having trouble concentrating as he could not stop laughing. A laughing curse; the easiest and most easily out casted curse in the book. It can save a person's life.

Ben doubled over as I doubled over because of the shoe strings, falling onto the marble floor. Not only were the shoe strings around themselves, but they started to snake its way up my body, binding me. I felt the shoe strings grow in length, wrapping around my shirt then my neck. Some of the curses were somewhat deadly when I looked around. The bully in school got up without any eyebrows because someone cursed his eye brows to catch on fire. Moonlight was cursed with having to talk in similes. Thank goodness he mumbled the counter curses in simile form.

"Alright class, now you finally know the effects of these curses. Now think of the curses ten times worse." He said seriously. "People curse objects just for fun, but some do it for sabotage. Next time think about that before you touch a random object." Moonlight glanced in the direction of the clock. "Class dismissed, study section 4.5 on curses. We will practice normally tomorrow."

I felt a shiver go down my spine. I hope Mr. Claw's sister's Ark was not cursed. That would turn my day upside down. A shrill metallic sound started to ring through the halls. I forgot that was my only class left. Ben and I walked to our lockers to grab out books we needed to study. No Illusion today. Thank God, at least I don't have to study how to make a person think you're invisible. That is the hardest subject I ever studied.

"Well Alex, I hope you aren't cursed! Talk to you later!" He said grinning widely. I waved nervously back.

I noticed that my ears and tail were still on my body. I shrugged it off. "Perhaps I am just imagining things. This can't be a curse. What have I done?" I reassured myself. I started to walk outside toward the parking lot, grabbing my bicycle. My house was only a few minutes away. The sun was in the sky, shinning very brightly, but then I noticed something. Two dark clouds started to make their way. It was defiantly going to rain. A cold wind blew across the road and through the subdivision, almost knocking me off my bike. I sighed loudly. I pulled slowly up my driveway, and noticed that the car was gone.

I parked my bike by the garage, and started to walk in the family room of the house. A TV was pushed against a wall, and it matched well with the modern décor. The kitchen was connected to the family room which looked just as modern as the family room with its granite countertops, and stainless steel refrigerator. A note was stamped on the front of the refrigerator.

"Be back soon, went to get the groceries!"

Love Mom.

I smiled and threw the note aside. The house is all to myself for tonight. I threw my shoes on the fireplace in the family room, running towards the stairs to the second floor. The grandfather clock chimed downstairs. It was 3:30 P.M. I closed the door and clicked on the TV in my room, pulled a popcorn bag under my bed, and popped it in the microwave by the TV. "I love my room." I thought to myself as the microwave clicked off with a ding, and the popping stopped. I ripped open the bag hungrily. Supper was served for tonight.

I reached a hand into the bag and pulled out a wad of the greatest looking popcorn ever. Then I felt something against my hand, it was sharp like a knife. Fangs were forming in my mouth. I yelled loudly and pressed a finger against my newest transformation. Yep, they sliced through the very first layer of my skin on my finger. I cursed under my breath and turned up the TV to try to block out my own thoughts.

Then I felt it, a surge of movement like the whole place was caving in. It was thunder. Lightning started to flash outside and rain battered the roof. "It would be the perfect time to practice with water." I thought as I opened my door to the bathroom, and started to walk towards the bathroom nearby. I needed to wash my face off with water. I started to feel a pounding in my chest and it was very warm.

I opened the door to the bathroom and locked it. Another surge of lightning paired with thunder shook the house violently. It flashed the sky in a brilliant sign that nature was present. I leaned over the sink and started the faucet, spraying cold water on my face. The mirror in above the sink shook as another thunder strike rocked the house. I felt something in my chest stir at that very moment, like a beast wanting to be released from chains. I looked up at the mirror to see my face was changed. My nose was not a nose anymore; it was more of a muzzle. It was a curse. The Ark on my wrist started to glow uncontrollably.

I should have listened to Moonlight. I started to feel scales creep up my legs and heard a rip as my clothes gave away. Scales started to cover me, like a blanket covering a young infant. I felt my nose bulge outward into a muzzle and felt more fangs starting to form. I felt my hands move outward and an extreme feeling of growth move over my body. Paws were starting to form and my muscles started to work extremely hard. Claws started to form and a sickening noise like fingers rubbing against the chalk board rang out. A growing feeling in my back started to form as wings shot out of my shirt. My Biceps and my chest started to gain muscle quickly. It felt wonderful, like I was new again, but I was also worried. "What is this?" I thought as I started to admire my body. The dragon eyes and tail were there in the first place. My wings flexed and moved dust around the bathroom.

"So this is your new form?" Said a voice from behind me. I turned around quickly to see Moonlight standing by the door. I all of a sudden had a surge of anger and several questions that needed to be answered. "How the hell did you get in here?" I said as I walked toward him. I started to feel anger creep up inside of me, making me shake with fury. "Did you put this curse on me?!" I said loudly. He put a claw near my mouth to silence me.

"No, I followed you just in case it was a curse."

My anger started to fade. He just cared about me. "Sorry I thought it was you since you followed me." I looked over at the mirror. I looked totally different. My light blue eyes were still reflecting back at me, but I no longer had skin. It was covered with green fur. My paws, tail tip, and chest were all the color white. I looked completely different. How am I going to tell my mother? It seemed Moonlight could read my mind.

"Don't worry, I will tell you mother." Moonlight said as he put a paw on my shoulder.

"You will be in this form for a while until we can get assistance outside the boarder. I will get you a pass to go with me. It won't be easy. I never changed back to my human form because I do not feel a need to. Unless, you wish to stay in the form you are in." He said calmly.

I thought about this. If I could change back, what would be the point? If I do go with Moonlight outside the barrier, it would not be to change back. It would be to see the world. I then thought about another question.

"Did Mr. Claw know his sister's Ark was cursed?" I said as I looked at the red tinted Ark. It was no longer glowing violently. Moonlight then went quiet and looked to the floor.

"Yes."

Then I started to put the pieces together. Moonlight was part of the plan. He had to be. More than anger, I was also curious. He may have betrayed me, but he also had answers to some questions I needed to ask him.

"Who are you really? Is your name really Moonlight?"

He sighed. A person could even hear him sigh though all the lightning and rain.

"I was forced into this. I never wanted to do this. The MRU forced me and Mr. Claw to do this. They got a tip off that a Pierce has lived here for quite some time. Your special Alex, not everyone can use two different Arks. They wanted to use you. They knew that your father was part of the Knights. The MRU knew you were special." He said while pausing when he mentioned my father. The MRU were the Millennium Rebellion Union.

I never even saw my father. People say he died in the war between Quartz. I still don't believe that. There is civil war, even in Millennium. Monsters that can talk and walk on two legs are usually not able to enter. Some people think they should while others not so much. MRU are people that think monsters should not be able to enter, even if they have the IQ to talk and walk, even though they won't hurt anybody, even though they will benefit society. MRU curses Arks to change people into wolfs, birds, or anything that resembled a monster so you could feel what it feels like to be one of them. They were horrible people. Billboards and signs were always posted to get people to join them. The Knights also advertise, but their posters don't have a human standing over a dead monster, holding a sword.

My dad believed monsters should be able to enter and leave as they please as long as they weren't harmful. The governor of Millennium agreed with dad, and dad quickly made a group of volunteers called the Knights. The Knights were a peace group; they fought for equal rights for everyone, even if it meant losing their life. I will never forgive him for how much pain he caused our family when he died. Mom barley talked for a week. She would sometimes break out in sobs. I have believed that MRU killed my father so the Knights would parish.

The only thing I heard about was how the Knights and MRU clashed for a while. Without their leader, they faded into a myth. The MRU was way more powerful so the MRU decided to take over the government. Their plans are about to unfold. The only thing they need was me. Claw and Moonlight were both being held hostage. Even though Claw hates me, he would never want to hurt me. I started to feel my anger subside again.

"So you really don't have any real connections to this?" I said while looking over to Moonlight. He looked old, like his spirit was just pushed out of him. He was forced against his will to do something he never wanted to do.

He shook his head. "I have no connection to this."

I pondered for a moment, putting together everything that has happened. "Why did you want to take me outside the barrier then?" I asked as my curiosity arose. He looked over at me and into my eyes.

"To get you away from the MRU. We could have ran outside the barrier and cure your curse."

I nodded. I started to feel fatigued from the transformation and walked out of the bathroom. Moonlight followed closely as I walked into my room. I sat on my bed and starred out the window. The rain was still falling. Then I saw it, it was quick, but vivid. A shadow was standing outside the window. The shadow started to form into a person, and then it pointed the Ark toward the window.

"Hello Mr. Dragon!" The person shouted frantically. It was a male, skinny who was wearing a black tee shirt and jeans. He mumbled something, and a fireball flew through the window. The fireball exploded when it made contact, throwing shrapnel everywhere. I fell backward on top of Moonlight. It was like a weird game of dominos. I tried to get up and used my new found strength to do so. The intruder was laughing manically.

"You're so stupid! Why do you even try getting up?"

I felt myself become bonded when he pointed his Ark at my legs. It was like an invisible chain bound me to the floor. Moonlight was knocked out from the blow. I felt sorry for him because he saved me from becoming knocked out. Not like there was anything I could do in the situation was in.

The person started to walk up to me and knelt above my head. "Man! You're a piece of work. The curse must have worked thanks to your two teachers. You will be a big help in this war effort."

I cursed under my breath. I never felt so helpless in my life.

"Why the hell did you curse me.?"

The person smiled a very large smile like this was the most enjoyable game in the world. "So you can feel how low you are. You're a monster now; you are despised across the globe! When we are done using you, we will throw you outside the barrier to your own kind like you deserve."

"You will never win. Your plan will fail." I said proudly. It was more of a psychological thing. If I could get him to feel shaken, then I could maybe break his bind he has around me.

"No, you lose."

He took out something that looked like a pocket watch. "Have you seen what these can do?" He said while flaunting the watch. It was golden, and the watch did not have the correct time. I shook my head.

"It's a different kind of Ark. It makes people do what I want no matter what. Now I get to test it out on you."

He started to move the watch back and forth like a pendulum. For some reason, I wanted to watch it. I wanted to see what it would do. The world started to become blurry, my brain started to shut down, and my eyes started to feel tired. My muscles started to relax, while my breathing started to slow. I started to close my eyes. It felt like my whole world got flipped upside down. I could still hear what was going on, the watch still moving back and forth. I tried to fight it, but it was a battle in vain.

"Go to sleep child. We will wake you in the morning." The voice said in the back of my mind. My dreams were weird that night.

I woke up to find a cold sweat was going down my face. I looked up to see the clouds were gone by were replaced by a moon. It was shining very brightly, and the moonlight reflected off trees. Moonlight was laying down right by me. We were on the cold ground, in the middle of nowhere. All that I knew was we were definitely outside the barrier. I leaned over and pushed against Moonlight's shoulders hoping to get a response. "Moonlight? Hello, you awake?" I said as I pushed his shoulder. No response. He was breathing though.

I shrugged and got up. There was water and food left on the ground by where we were sleeping. I ate it hungrily and started to continue in the forest. It was the perfect time to explore. Then I stopped, I felt as if my stomach was about to turn inside out.

"Mr. Claw's Ark!" I looked on my wrist to realize that it was gone. A red mark indicated that it was there for a period of time when they decided to cut it off. They probably took it off to do research on it to see why it reacted with me as well as Claw's sister. A Ark that is not a person's true Ark can be easily slid off a person's wrist. Then I realized something even more terrifying. My home town was in danger of civil war between the Knights and MRU. And I was at the epicenter.

I heard an explosion. It was close by. I ran through the forest, trees and leaves hitting me as I ran by. Everything looked like a giant green blur. I tripped and fell, my scales becoming dirty with brown mud. I did not care. I kept running. I then saw where the explosion was coming from. It was coming from Millennium. We were not dropped far from it. But something was missing, something very important. It was the barrier. Monsters were swarming into the town, creating mass panic from the people. The military stepped in and started to blast them with Destructio magic, blowing them backward for a short amount of time. Women and children were running away. The husbands of the family ran out to fight the swarm coming in.

I looked down to see an Ark lying at my feet. I took it and put it on my wrist. It started to react like Claw's sister's Ark did. I used my newly found wings, and flew up into the sky. The cold wind felt great against my face, but I did not have time to think about flying. I swopped down towards the middle of the town to see Ben fighting a swarm of monsters. Some of the monsters actually helped Millennium fight back others. They had common sense. A griffin by Ben was fighting off a giant two headed wolf. Its teeth were vicious, and its claws swiped them.

Ben used the water from the rain, using it like a rope. It hit the two headed wolf, pushing it back more. They finally had it corned. I did not want to see the rest. I flew in the direction of the epicenter of the fight. The government building was burning, and outside of it were people locked in battle. The person that hypnotized me was busy fighting off the military, and the MRU people were fighting among side him. I swopped down and tackled him, his weight moved in me, and I could see his mouth wide open in shock. The military quickly backed off when they saw a 200 pound dragon fall from the sky like a meteor. I yelled at the military that I was not a monster. When I talked, the military knew I was on their side. The MRU was then blown backward by the strength of the military.

He started to throw punches, some of them connected, but my scales protected me like an armored vest protected a police officer. I grabbed his fist and pinned it under his back. I had him pinned to the ground.

"Who are you?" I shouted as he struggled underneath me. I noticed something glimmer on his wrist. It was the red tinted Ark. He had it on.

"My name is Alfren, the leader of MRU." He grinned while saying the words.

I figured this would be the best time to ask the question. I didn't care that a battle was going on around me. I felt a fire ball move past my shoulder, slamming into the opposite wall.

"Why did you want me? Was it because I could use two different Arks?"

He laughed at these words.

"Why would I want you? You just got lucky because you could use two different Arks. I was hoping that by cursing the Ark that someone would pick it up. I decided to make a replica of Claw's sister's Ark. I took the real one. I broke your old one. You never fell. I destroyed your Ark by shooting a spell at you. I just hypnotized you so you would not remember. You people are so stupid! I told Claw to give you his sister's Ark so I could use you. It was only better that you could use two Arks, that made everything easier for me! You even fell for it! I was hoping that the curse would make you pull off the Ark and run, but Moonlight had to come and crash the whole thing. He told you HIS half of the story, and he never knew that I was playing with him. I used him like I used Claw. His sister's Ark is actually a barrier breaker. That is how I got the barrier down. I just had to mumble a few words and BOOM the barrier fell easily. I tricked you and I won. Now people will realize how evil monsters are. You lost friend. Your father lost when I killed him too." He smiled very wide and sinister.

I felt like a rug was pulled under my feet. Then I looked around. I saw ordinary monsters fighting their own kind. I knew what was up. People were teaming up with monsters that could think for themselves. We won. He lost. I would not let my anger get to me this time.

"You should look around. You did not win. The people won. My father won. Some monsters teamed up with other people. They are setting an example. I believe you lost. They will never believe your story when they see the monsters you are trying to kick out team up with the people of Millennium. " I broke out in a grin. I was on top. He had nothing more to say.

Alfren went silent, but then he pointed the red Ark at me. "I WILL NOT LOSE!" He reached into his pocket with his free hand and pulled a golden object out of his pocket. It was the watch.

"Remember this? I will wipe your memory for good now! You won't remember a single thing of what happened!" He started to move it back and forth. I started to get drowsy again. I felt my grip loosening, and Alfren slid me off of him. He was now in control. The world started to blur, and I saw a silver shape running toward me down the road. It was Moonlight. He was carrying a sword followed by a bunch of people running toward us. They were the Knights. Moonlight must have told them about the situation so they all pitched in. Alfren's concentration broke. He focused now on the people that were running toward him.

I felt my strength returning. I started to run toward Alfren, but he dodged my tackle. He was not going to fall for that again. Moonlight casted a bind in Alfren's direction, making him double over and fall face first into the road. I started to use my fists as weapons, pushing anybody aside that wanted to pick a fight. Regular civilians started to join in the brawl, and lights from people's Arks were flying past my muzzle. I almost got hit by a curse, but it missed by inches. I used my Ark, and mumbled a water spell. The water droplets froze into hail stones. I chucked them at a nearby MRU group member who casted the curse at me. He started to retreat.

Moonlight was fighting with Alfren. When Alfren was hit by the bound, he instantly broke it, and started blasting curses at Moonlight. Moonlight answered back with light energy. It stunned, but did not kill. Alfren was hit by one of the stun curses, and dropped to the ground KO'd. The head was chopped off the snake. MRU members started to raise their hands in defeat. The Knights started to arrest the MRU members. Moonlight picked up the stunned body of Alfren. A golden object fell out of his pocket. It was the pocket watch.

I picked it up, putting it in my pocket. Who knows, it could come in handy. Moonlight then turned around to me.

"Here is the Ark Alfren had." He handed me the red Ark. "Take good care of it." I instantly knew what he wanted me to do. I knew the spell that made a barrier. They were taught to us as a precaution if the barrier ever did fall.

"Barrier repair." I said and pointed the Ark toward the sky. A light blue light shot up into the sky, spreading out across the night. It was almost like transparent glass, as it started to make its way back to the ground. It started to turn into an oval. It covered the city once again. Peace was restored.

The monsters that the civilians were fighting were quickly rounded up and tossed out. The monsters that could speak were made citizens of Millennium. The MRU decided that it was time to put up the towel, and the group was broke up. Alfren was in jail for a life sentence. Things were looking good.

I decided to keep the curse that was set upon me. My dragon form was handy for flying around school, and Mom never complained, because I got the groceries easily. Ben never gave me crap for it; he thought it was pretty cool having a friend that was transformed. School was starting up again like normal. He had some new members thanks to a law that passed. It allowed ALL civilians, either monster or human, to participate in education. It was nice having animals at school.

I kept the pocket watch as a memorial of the battle. Mother wanted me to discard it immediately, saying it was black magic and what not. I reassured her that everything would be ok.

It was school time again, and I was back in Destrutio class. Moonlight was on the subject of earth magic, and the school bell rang loudly. It was the end of the day. I got up off my desk, and started to head out the door when Moonlight put a hand on my shoulder. "You were brave like your father against the MRU. I fought by him on the Knights myself once. I thought this would cheer you up." He handed me a very large book. It had pictures of what my father looked like. My voice started to choke up. He had black hair and light blue eyes like me. He was smiling very proudly in the picture, and he was holding something. It was a baby. It was me. Mother was smiling along with him, putting her arm around father. I looked up at Moonlight, and gave him a huge dragon hug. He said, "I knew you would like it."

I realized that I came to forgive my father. I may have never met him, but I respected him for what he did. He created the Knights; he also did this to protect us.

"Thank you Moonlight, you're awesome!" Then I said something I never thought I would say.

"And attractive!"

He blinked at those words. "Errrr...what was that?"

"Nothing!" I said quickly and took out the watch. I decided to wipe away the last sentence I said.

That was close. I walked out of the classroom knowing that my father was not a coward.

That was the most amazing thing anybody could have done for me.
