REIKI SESSION - inner travels

Story by Crystalwolf Windsong on SoFurry

This is pretty much a true story. I just recently went for a second Reiki treatment. Funny enough, I think I met my true furry self in it. Weird huh? I thought some people might like to read about it. :)

He closed his eyes, relaxing his body. He felt her place her hands on his head. He focused on his breathing even before her words reached his ears. "Focus on your breathing" He took a deep breath in and let it out, trying to calm the inner chaos of his scattered thoughts. He felt his mind slowly quieting. He let himself fall into the dark space listening to the soothing words. The heat from her hands felt like a balm to him, he opened himself to it, the warmth echoing the heat from the water bottle resting on his stomach.

He felt a surge of emotion through him, a bundle of intense feelings gathered like a bundle of bound silk. Happiness, sadness, yearnings and half remembered pains bringing the sting to his eyes as if he was on the verge of tears. He felt them come together and accepted it. Again it was as if he was anticipating her words. "Gather all your emotions into one, let them flow together. Now see a bright green box. A deep rich emerald green and place them within and close the box." He felt the sting of emotions wash away, as if indeed he had placed them in safety away from him, yet at the same time still a part of his whole.

He heard her words describing the maze to him, but the picture flashed through his mind. It was different to the brightness that she was describing, but he accepted it. Instead of the bright greens, vivid yellows and warm light and colours her words were trying to paint. He saw instead himself standing before what seemed like half seen walls. More like glass looking out into the depths of space. He felt his consciousness intrude, trying to place the colours and green walls of the maze she was describing over it. He overrode the impulse and let what feel right wash them away in his inner sight. The darkness surrounding him was more comforting and felt more right than the bright sunlight that had tried to intrude. The darkness was more of a welcome friend, something hard to describe as if it was light itself. Everything stood crisp and clear. The walls around him were like panes of glass and through it he could see stars hanging still or dancing and spinning like fireflies.

He was still aware of his body. His breathing had become slow and shallow. His fingers twitched distracting him. He accepted the feeling and brought himself back to the inner world. It was strange feeling himself here, but still being attached to his body lying in the bed with the warm blanket covering him, his feet slightly cold. He felt her hands move and the warmth dissipate. In its stead he felt a tingle like an afterthought of a shock he'd felt dimly.

She'd spoken of barriers in the maze, choices he'd need to reach and over come. He stepped forward, the world shifted around him as if miles had passed in an instant. He looked down at what looked like a pool of silver stretched across his path, but even as he became aware of it, it shrunk. Disappearing so only the dark rich earth of the path before him stretched onwards. He stepped forward again, the curious rushing at the edges of his eyes were disconcerting. His fingers twitched involuntarily again shifting his mind back to the body it inhabited.

It took him moments longer to return to his inner world, he felt her shifting around him. Her hands moving again, but he was only slightly aware of the change. He found himself standing before thick thorny vines that reached high into the sky. He felt the flow of heat from them and watched the flickering yellow and orange flames licking the sky. The vines themselves didn't seem to be burning. The fire seemed a natural extension of their being. He knew that these were his passions and lusts, burning inside him, yearning for both acceptance and release. Even as the thought solidified in him he saw the knob of a sprinkler jutting low from the soil of the path. He took it into his hand and turned it, water cascaded from everywhere and no-where. The vines and flames were gone, as if they had never been. He felt the shift inside him, the acceptance of those burning vines and their meaning becoming one with his being.

He stepped, thoughts and feelings seemed to flash by, he knew that he'd come upon other barriers but couldn't recall them. Time seemed to have lost meaning with the rushing world around him. The walls had changed from paned glass to a silver leaved wall, its soft glow colouring everything with its shine. He felt himself drawn to a distant light somewhere in the maze, tantalizingly close but at the same time lost in the distance.

He stepped again. Ahead of him another barrier blocked his path. He felt as though time was trapped in it. He studied the walls of silver water that came to his waist. The rushed in silence from nowhere above and foamed into the pool below, split in the middle by a rocky pedestal thrusting up through the torrent like a spindly mountain trying to grow. He looked down on it, even thought it seemed that the silver waterfall and its dividing mountainous pedestal had grown to impossible heights. A pool of calm silver water was ringed by rock, the waterfall along it's' sides now seemed more of a curtain of water flowing gently. It was like looking into a volcano's top that had been filled to the brim with quicksilver. A glint of his reflection in it flashed across his inner eye. It felt like he stood there for an eternity of time, stretching as endlessly as the view into space above him.

He stepped and was past. His eyes burned with the sudden light. Ahead of him was a shining crystal form. His sight adjusted to the brightness and he could see the half-wolf form, like that of the mythical werewolf in its midst. The form stood statue still and looked like it was made of glass, the light burning from its midst. The wolf had long been his totem animal and he could no more state in words the emotions and rushing thoughts that flitted through him like a swarm of butterflies flying at the speed of light. The torrent rushed through him seeming to spear his soul and he knew this choice. There were no words to place to it, only the rightness. He'd no more be able to describe it than he'd be able to tabulate the formula for inter-dimensional travel or baking a cookie. The form reached out to him as he himself brought his arm up. The glass had faded and it was now lifelike, with white soft fur. It's black nose shining wetly. Its eyes held his, but it wasn't an it, it was himself. His mind tried to make sense of looking at himself from two forms and gave up. He watched the white fur ruffle along the outstretched paw of the human like wolf. Their index fingers touched, it seemed reminiscent of the painting by Michelangelo. The name escaped him.

A flash of warmth and light surrounded him, a sweetness and calm settled like a blanket placed lovingly over a child by their doting parent. A part of himself he'd hardly known he'd locked away filled him and he looked down wonderingly at his white velvet fur on the back of his paw.

Time again disappeared, his body made itself known with another twitch. He realised she now had her hands on his feet, the heat almost burning where they had felt frosted only moments ago. He lay there still cushioned in the darkness behind his eyes. Floating amidst the nothingness of his thoughts. He brought himself back again seemingly anticipating her words as she spoke to draw him from his travels. He lay there, content whilst the real world came flowing back breath by breath.
