#5 of The Greatest Disgrace

Snow swept in from the night sky, blanketing the harsh and seemingly untouched frozen wasteland. Standing silently, an armor clad figure stood amongst the passing snow drifts looking out upon the desolate ice covered peaks. The biting winds would have been enough to slow even the most fierce of creature, and the darkened sky gave the eyes little in terms of visibility. Not even the moonlight could pierce the shadowy cover of darkness.

A rather portly small figure, dressed in several bundles of fur approached the armored figure slowly and deliberately, holding a small piece of parchment in its hands. The wind fought the rather fat little creature, pushing the parchment back into its face with each step. A small lantern in its other hand was the only object that provided illumination.

"General Moonblade," the small figure seemed to cough. Immediately the armored figure turned from its watchful vigil to look upon the portly dwarf. Known in the northern fronts as Moonblade the Celestial Defender, the Night Elf looked down at the frostbitten finger tips of the Dwarf and took the parchment form his hands. Along her back, a twin bladed weapon which looked as if a mixture of a tuning fork and a bastard sword had come together. It was a treasure she had found during an expedition to the Outlands.

"Don't keep me waiting Lieutenant, if I had wanted to read messages and status reports, I would have taken that desk job in Stormwind," the Night Elf women replied harshly, handing the parchment back to the dwarf. Her armor shown of collections she had gathered from countless battles. "Yes mam, my apologies..." the dwarf began to reply before being swiftly cut off. "Lieutenant, just tell me what the damned message says, I've got enough trouble dealing with the remnants of the undead hordes to the north, I don't need some scared tenderfoot freezing before he does his one job," The Night Elf replied, her long silver hair blowing in the frigid breeze.

"Mam, Arch-Druid Mardant was killed in an engagement with Horde forces in the Stonetalon Mountains," the dwarf replied with a nervous fever. "Arch Druid Mardant, the entirety of the Stonetalon Mountains, and Kalmidor are under the jurisdiction of Grand Marshall Fardale, I'm going to need an explanation of why I'm receiving this report," the fiery General snapped back, eager to return to her watch. "Mam, there is something else. I was asked by Alliance command to inform you that there is one other suspected casualty amongst those killed in Stonetalon," the dwarf's voice reaching a fearful hush. "Well speak up Lieutenant, I do not have time for idle banter," General Moonblade said, brushing her hair from her eyes.

"Kaylai Moonblade"

The wind came to a dead calm, the snow drifts seeming to come to a complete stop. It was as if a great silence had overtaken the valley. General Moonblade kneeled down, coming to eye level with the dwarven Lieutenant. "Choose your next words carefully Lieutenant, and tell me one more time the name of the suspected casualty, I fear in the harsh winds I may have misheard you."

"Kaylai Moonblade, Druid of the Stag, is suspected dead in combat with the Horde" the dwarf replied, an audible gulp following.

The General immediately took the wind blown parchment from the Lieutenant's hands, her eyes quickly scanning the report. "Surviving Sentinels reported that Kaylai Moonblade, a druid, had engaged the group under the influence of a Horde Hunter," Moonblade said, her voice shivering with each passing word, "Further reports indicate that Arch-Druid Mardant gave the order for Kaylai Moonblade to be killed as a traitor to the Alliance," the General continued reading, falling from her kneeling position and sitting on the snow. "Sentinels have not fully recovered, but suspect that Kaylai was killed in the ensuing battle," her hands visibly shaking.

The General slowly stood, gathering her composure. She looked down at the Lieutenant returning the parchment to his frozen hands. "Very good solider, return to camp, inform the rest of the platoon that I will be returning shortly and to ensure that second watch is prepared to take the field early," her voice as cold and emotionless as the northern winds that were beating down upon the pair. "Yes Mam," the dwarf replied, quickly running towards the direction of the Alliance camp.

General Moonblade removed the sword upon her back from its sheath, swinging the weapon with diligence in the wind. "Mellitharn, I assume you were listening," the General said, cutting feverishly at the wind. "With Diligence my beloved," an exceptionally tall night elf stepped forward from the shadows to join General Moonblade. "Head back to camp to let the men know that I have an emergency that requires my presence in Kalmidor," the sword resting against the snow covered valley. "As you wish, I will of course join you shortly, until than I will do what is needed here," Mellitharn responded, placing his hand upon the General's shoulder, "If she is alive we will find her".

"She wasn't even supposed to be in the Stonetalon engagement. The last letter she sent was informing us that she was safe helping aid the recovery in Darkshore," Moonblade said in a cold and emotionless voice, a single tear running along her cheek. "You know Kaylai; she was never one to let fear get in the way. Travel safely my dear," the Night Elf once again disappeared into the shadows.

"SongTalon!" Moonblade commanded, her voice echoing throughout the mountains. A large Dragon soared from the heavens above, its tail like that of a fish. It was a proud Netherdrake, covered in regal armor. "You summoned my lady," the Netherdrake spoke, its voice calm, and its demeanor steady. "We Ride for Kalmidor, and we don't stop until we reach the Farwatcher's Glen in Stonetalon Mountains," she said, quickly climbing onto a saddle atop the Dragon's back. The great beast spread its wings, emitting a bellowing roar into the night before taking off into the darkness.

"It's Ok Dear"

The Goblin nurse said, taking Kaylai's feline head to her shoulder, her hand stroking the fur at the back of Kaylai's neck. "I don't know what the hell you've been through, nor do I like to delve deeply into Horde activities, but you are safe here with me," Berbi said soothingly, her hand wrapping around the druid's frame embracing her in a hug. "Shh, you're ok, don't worry I'm right here," she said, trying to keep the injured druid from unwittingly removing her bandages. "Momma!" Kaylai cried out again, a more defeated nature to her tone. Tears once again began to stream from down her feline cheeks, gently sobbing into the Goblins' shoulder. Berbi could only hold onto and comfort the crying druid, working desperately to sooth the rather large feline. "I've got to get these bandages applied correctly, or these wounds won't heal any time soon. You've got more battle scars on you than some Gladiators I've seen," Berbi said calmly, slowly removing Kaylai's feline head from her shoulder and heading back towards the box of first aid supplies. "Not to mention, your fur is a sodding mess," Berbi continued, half chuckling.

Berbi began to slowly fill a large bucket of water at the side of the bed, putting a concoction of several bubbling chemicals into the mix. "We're never going to get you patched up until we figure out which of these is just dried on blood, and which is an actual wound," her hand dipping into the water bucket with a large sponge. "I haven't had a bath since I left Windshear Hold," Kaylai said, beginning to look herself over, "I guess I've been trying to ignore my own scent," a note of bemusement in the young druid's voice. Berbi quickly began to get to work, rubbing the sponge along the druid's head, rubbing her ears with the soapy concoction. "This may sting a bit, but it's better than having an infection later on down the road. I haven't ever really used this stuff on a fur coat before, so I don't know if there will be any unintended side effects," Berbi's hands continuing to slowly massage the soap into Kaylai's fur. With each time the sponge would pass over an uncovered wound, Kaylai could not help but wince in pain.

"It will be over soon child, but now that you're awake, there are some things that we need to know. The first of which being who attacked you," The short goblin said, slowly working the sponge down Kaylai's backside and spine. "I don't know," Kaylai said, her mind trying desperately to remember the events which had brought her here. "One moment, I was in the cage in the cargo hold, and the next I was here with you in this room," Kaylai continued, slowly taking the time to stand atop the examination table, quickly looking herself over. Berbi, seemingly frustrated, reached for a small stool to help her reach Kaylai's backside now that the druid was standing. "My collar, it's back..." Kaylai said, a sound of hope emanating from her voice, "Does this mean I'm free?" Kaylai's eyes darted to the goblin who was slowly working the sponge along one of Kaylai's front legs.

Berbi could only muster a look of disappointment shaking her head. "I'm afraid you're still aboard an airship bound for the Blood Elf capital. I simply convinced Salvo that while you're aboard this ship, prisoner or ally, you will be taken care of," her hands returning to rub the sponge against Kaylai's front paw. "Then, I am still his slave..." Kaylai's voice immediately dropped to a low whine, tears once again welling up in her eyes. "I'm sorry dear, in that regard there is nothing we can do. Ultimately we must remain neutral in matters between the Horde and the Alliance," Berbi said, brushing dirt out from under one of Kaylai's claws. "But you're here helping me now, isn't that going against your act of neutrality?" Kaylai said, pleading with the goblin. "Ultimately we are also the ones taking you to a Horde Capital city, the least I could do is try and make your trip there livable," the goblin responded, her actions coming to a pause.

"If you cannot free me, than you must kill me. I cannot suffer this indignity any longer," Kaylai cried out tears dropping to the examination table. "I can't do that either girl, and even if I could that would accomplish nothing," The Goblin's stern eyes fixating on Kaylai. "It would end my suffering," Kaylai coughed up, once again lying on the table. Berbi expressed frustration as she slid the stool back into a corner of the room. "I do not pretend to understand your fate Druid, nor do I ever wish to be in a situation where I would have it forced upon me. Giving up; however, accomplishes very little. The exact nature of your imprisonment here is unknown to me as well as a majority of the crew. What we do know is this: most druids in your position would have shape shifted long ago, so something must be stopping you. In addition, no Alliance druid would willingly follow an Orc hunter anywhere, so either you have a plan or he truly has managed to do the impossible and tame a druid. It isn't that Salvo isn't a great hunter, but he is not the type that I would expect to demonstrate the sort of skill. Whatever has been done to you, you must press on," The Goblin slowly looking over Kaylai's feline form, noting her druidic markings.

"Can I ask you a favor then?" Kaylai asked quietly. "What might that favor be?" Berbi pined inquisitively. "I need a second opinion on something..." Kaylai said her tone almost a mere whisper. "Well opinions are something I'm full of, so shoot," Berbi said, resuming her work taking a sponge to the Druid's fur. "I need to know if I'm pregnant..." Kaylai said her voice crackling as she did so. "Pregnant? I didn't think that you druids maintain a pregnancy through shape shifting," the Goblin said, a mark of confusion in her voice. "It would be the feral form that is pregnant..." she said, shame creeping over her. "That's possible?" Berbi said, slowly washing Kaylai's back paw. "I don't know, it's not supposed to be possible for any members of my order. But between the nausea and the hunger, I don't know," her tail swaying slowly across the examination table.

"Well I can't say I've ever given a pregnancy exam of any kind to a Panther before, so I'm not really sure if I'm qualified to make that call dear. When's the last time you were sexually active?" Berbi's steady hand cleaning away stuck on blood under Kaylai's claws. "In the cage a few hours ago," Kaylai mumbled, her ears drooping. "WHAT?" Berbi said, a look of shock and disgust crossing her face, "With what?" "That Lynx that Salvo keeps with him," Kaylai whimpered a single tear falling across her whiskers as she did. "You mean to tell me that red furred little bastard has been having sex with you? Does Salvo know about this?" Berbi's shock was visible as she nearly dropped the sponge in the bucket. "He's the one that sanctioned it," Kaylai's voice was now nothing more than a dull mumble. "WHY? Why would he ever allow such a thing? Unless my husband has been telling me lies for the past years, Salvo is a warrior of honor. He would never condone that treatment of his prisoners, regardless of the reasoning," Berbi quickly moved away from the bucket and sponge to Kaylai's head, rolling her hands across the feline's ears and head, "I am so sorry dear, I didn't even know".

Kaylai slowly leaned into Berbi's shoulder, tears pouring down her face. "I just want my momma," Kaylai cried. The Goblin tried to soothe the sobbing druid for what seemed like hours, to little or no avail.

"I never got around to asking you your name druid, I imagine with Salvo's sense of humor it's not Luna," Berbi finally chirped up, still holding the very large panther in her arms. "It's Kaylai, Kaylai Moonblade mam," the druid responded.

"Moonblade? As in related to the Celestial Defender, the Champion of the Frozen Waste, and renowned General of the Alliance, Alannaria Moonblade?" Berbi managed to squeak out. "Yes mam," Kaylai replied with a bit of a chuckle, her eyebrow rose in confusion, "I didn't realize my mother had made that much of a name for herself amongst those outside of the Alliance."

"HERG DEADEYE, MARIN SPROCKET, YOU TWO, IN THIS ROOM, NOW!"

Berbi's bellowing roar alerted Salvo and Marin that perhaps they should make their way to the medical bay. The two stumbled in like young children who had just eaten their mother's pie. "Yes mam?" Salvo asked sheepishly. "Do you know this druid's name Herg?" Berbi's eyes burned like a fire. "Well I've just been calling her Luna..." Salvo managed to chuckle before swiftly being cut off, "I'm not talking about the stupid name you gave her as your pet, I'm talking about her actual name. Let me give you a hint, it ends with Moonblade". Berbi stared down the two men with a glare so fierce even the Medusa itself would have been no match. Marin dropped the clipboard he was holding, backing slowly away from Salvo. "Salvo, are you kidding me? You couldn't just capture any druid? Are you dense brother?" Marin said, slowly picking his clipboard back up.

"I'm not scared of some name," Salvo said, seeming quite proud of himself, "Who's this Moonblade person anyway?" "She only leads the entirety of the Alliance forces in Northrend currently. Maybe the title Celestial Defender will ring a bell?" Berbi replied in a mocking tone. With those words Salvo's eyes immediately perked up, his jaw slowly dropping. "Wait... you're telling me the druid I captured is related to the infamous General Moonblade?" Salvo said with a noticeable gulp following. "Not just related you dumb oaf, Kaylai here is Alannaria Moonblade's daughter... her only daughter," Berbi said, a noticeable amount of fear in her voice. "This is not good," Marin said, quickly scanning his clipboard as if looking to it for answers, "There's transporting a prisoner, and then there is transporting a prisoner that may very well get the Alliance main fleet to follow you. Salvo why didn't you mention that you were bringing in Kaylai Moonblade? Hell, even back in our dragon chasing days we knew about General Moonblade. You didn't once think to ask her name?" Marin's pitch was becoming almost feverish. "I didn't think it was important?" Salvo said, quickly looking to the druid on the examination table, a clear bead of sweat falling from his brow. "We're dead, we are all going to die," Marin said, pacing slowly in the room.

"Oh wait there's more Marin," Berbi said, her rage barely contained, "Mr. Deadeye here forgot to mention that he's been letting that red Lynx he's got tagging along with him rape Kaylai. You mind giving me a quick rundown of why that might be Herg?" Berbi hand placed along Kaylai's back, slowly stroking her fur. "I... I am following orders from the Royal Apothecary Society, and they have a sizable leverage to make sure I follow those orders. They included making sure that the druid I brought back was pregnant with Red's cubs," Salvo's voice was almost a hush. "I don't agree with it either Mrs. Berbi, but they have my hands tied on this one. The way that politics back in Orgrimmar have swung is of increasing concern, and this mission is yet one more sign that things have gotten worse. It brings great dishonor to an Orc to treat their prisoners in such a way," Salvo's eyes fixated on Kaylai, his eyes seemed to be asking for forgiveness. "You're damn right it brings dishonor, it brings a great deal more than dishonor, and it seals all of our fates. Herg Deadeye, when Alannaria Moonblade does catch up with you, and I assure you that she will, I do not wish to be at that confrontation," Berbi said with profound disappointment, "Now both of you get out of here and resume your investigation as to what attacked your prisoner. I've got a lot more patchwork to do."

The two men slowly exited the room, quietly murmuring to each other. Kaylai was still a bit shocked by the whole encounter. She had grown up hearing the adults speak of her mother's heroic actions, but she had never known her as General Moonblade, only as momma. On the rare occasions that her mother had gotten the chance to return from the battlefront to visit she always took the time to take Kaylai to all sorts of places. From Stormwind to Tanaris, it was always a chance to spend time with her mother. To hear her described with such fear was amusing to Kaylai at best.

"Kaylai, dear, roll over, if we're going to have any idea of whether or not you're pregnant, the fur along your backside isn't going to help," Berbi said, slowly pushing the druid's side. Kaylai complied, slowly rolling over onto her back, realizing that she was still quite sore. The Goblin nurse quickly began to examine the fur along her stomach, her hand moving slowly through the silken purple fur. Berbi quickly reached into a small first aid kit, recovering some gloves. "When was the first time you were sexually active with Red?" Berbi asked, her hands making their way along Kaylai's stomach. "It would have been two days ago now I guess. I've sort of lost track of time," Kaylai responded, feeling strangely as Berbi's hand wondered across her fur. "Two days isn't a great deal of time to get pregnant in, even if you are pregnant, you probably won't see any obvious symptoms for at least two or three weeks. Even so, I will try my best to give an educated guess," Berbi replied somberly, her hand making its way to one of Kaylai's teets. She slowly began to pinch at the spot causing Kaylai back paw to shake nervously. "Does this feel sore?" Berbi asked, slowly beginning to rub the area around the teet. "A little bit, yeah," Kaylai said, a mixture of surprise and pain causing her tail to sway back and forth. As a small amount of liquid made its way from Kaylai's teet, both she and Berbi reacted with surprise. "What's that mean!?" Kaylai asked, her tail twitching back and forth on the table. "I have no clue," Berbi said, "It could just be because you're in heat, or it could have something to do with pregnancy, dealing with 4 legged furry creatures has never been my forte".

"I understand, sadly the anatomy of my shape shifted forms was never something I paid very much attention to either. It was always something I left to Druid's of the Claw," Kaylai seemed to breathe a heavy sigh, now more confused than ever about the whole predicament. Berbi continued to rub the fur along her stomach, making her way to Kaylai's abdomen, feeling around. Kaylai had to admit that it tickled somewhat as she tried to sit still while Berbi prodded away. "Well I don't feel anything, but again two days isn't very much time to determine this sort of thing," Berbi eyes narrowing on a fluid that was no on the examination table. Berbi looked at, Kaylai simply nodded; preparing herself for what was coming next.

Berbi's gloved finger slowly made its way into Kaylai's opening, her hand placed gently against the pedals of her vulva. Kaylai could feel as Berbi's finger slowly worked its way along her entrance, making Kaylai feel a bit nauseous. She could only watch with nervous anticipation as Berbi began to push against her insides, making her muscles spasm. Berbi's other hand slowly made its way to a small toolkit near the side of the table, taking a metal device from it. Berbi removed her hand and fingers from Kaylai's delicate flower, slowly placing the metal device in their place. Kaylai could feel as the device slowly snaked its way into her entrance, causing her breaths to become shallower. "It's ok Kaylai, this will be over any minute now," Berbi said reassuringly. With that, she felt as the strange device seemed to push deep into her, running along Kaylai's abused passageway. Kaylai's only reaction was to sit back on the table, trying desperately not the think about the whole ordeal. Shortly the ordeal was over, and Berbi had removed the device from Kaylai, quickly placing it in a small sterile looking sink. "Well, if I had to take a guess, I would say even if you're not pregnant now, you will be soon. That heat of yours is coming to an end, so the swelling will eventually go down," Berbi said, removing the gloves from her hand and casually tossing them into a waste bin.

"Well that's a positive I suppose," Kaylai said, still unsure of the whole predicament. She rolled back over, her tail tucked between her legs. "Do you folks have a... uh... restroom I could borrow?" Kaylai asked with a hint of embarrassment to her voice, "I haven't really had the opportunity... and well I feel a bit strange in this feline form..." her voice trailed off. "Of course, I understand dear, just outside this room it will be a small restroom you can use.

Kaylai thanked Berbi, as the Goblin quickly opened the medical bay door, following the feline to the restroom. Kaylai attempted to use her paws to open the door, only to realize that it was not something meant for a creature without thumbs. Berbi once again opened the door for her, allowing Kaylai some moments of privacy.

"General Moonblade!"

The excited cry of a Darnassian sentinel greeted the General as she walked slowly towards the Farwatcher's Glen. "Carry on Solider, where is Commander Meridia?" Moonblade replied, continuing at a steady pace towards the camp. "She is waiting your arrival at the outpost mam," the Sentinel replied.

As Alannaria walked towards the outpost, she noted the sheer number of Alliance troops that were stationed there. She patiently walked past load after load of supplies before finding an incredibly stressed looking Worgen woman hurriedly trying to scramble through piles of paperwork. "Commander Meridia?" The General asked, slowly knocking on one of the pillars in the outpost. The Worgen woman quickly took her eyes off the paperwork before her, bringing hear eyes to face the General, quickly saluting her. "No mam, Second Lieutenant Mara Renn, Commander Meridia is currently occupied at the recovery ward talking with the Sentinels," the Worgen said quickly before once again diving back into her piles of paperwork. "Duely noted," Alannaria said with a smirk.

She began to make her way to the recovery ward, looking into the mountain range north of the post, her mind burning to know what had happened. As she approached the recovery ward, she noticed several make shift coffins outside, each with a small Darnassian flag covering it. She walked into the ward to find a Sentinel commander leaning over a fallen comrade, reciting a well-known Night Elf prayer. "Commander Meridia?" the General inquired. The Commander slowly turned around, the purple cape covering her back brushing against the cot of the fallen soldier. "That'd be me Madam," she replied swiftly, a fiery rage barely concealed.

"Commander, do you know why I'm here?" the General continued her questioning. "Yes Mam, you're here to find out if we killed the traitor that killed my sisters. The answer is no Mam; she lives on," the tone of the commander was venomous. "Commander, I am not here to make light of what happened to your platoon. But if my daughter did betray the Alliance, I need to know where she is. I have no intention of attempting to do anything else," General Moonblade replied, her response cold and emotionless, "If Kaylai did betray the Alliance, than I will be the one who kills her". The commander seemed a bit taken back by the General's words, quickly reaching into her pocket for a small piece of parchment. "This is the report that was given to me by the few surviving members of the scouting party. We have had additional scouts searching the area ever since the attack. As of yet all we can determine is that Kaylai made camp at one of the clearing along the mountain and then escaped with a Horde soldier via Wyvern," the Commander said, handing over the report to General Moonblade. "My sentinels report that the Wyvern appeared to be heading for Dustwallow Marsh near the Southern Barrens. Further reports from outpost in the Barrens and the Marsh confirm that flight path. Past that we do not know where in the Marsh it landed, or where the Orc and Kaylai have headed since then. You'd have to talk to Ms. Proudmore's men for more details on that area".

"Very well, I'll leave you to attend to your sisters commander. I will send message if and when I find those that are responsible for their deaths. I can assure you there will be justice".

With that, the General quickly left the recovery ward, making her way back to her well armored Netherdrake. She informed it of its new directions before mounting the creature. Within minutes of touching down, the General was once again airborne, this time on a course for the Dustwallow Marsh. As she sat atop the great winged beast, Alannaria could not help but wonder what could possibly have possessed Kaylai to commit any actions against the Alliance and more importantly the Sentinels. She scanned the report that the commander had handed her, reading it over and over again to make sure that there was not some sort of mistake. Sadly each and every surviving Sentinel's report repeated the same thing; that they had been ambushed by a well-trained Orc hunter as well as his pet and a night elf druid. In addition, the reports mentioned specifically that the Arch Druid Mardent had recognized the druid as Kaylai Moonblade.

Alannaria leaned in close to the Netherdrake, slowly stroking the scales along the back of its neck. "I don't know Songtalon, it doesn't make any sense. Kaylai was one of the proudest Alliance patriots I can think of. Whenever we would go to those Capital cities; she would always speak so highly of the other races and how much they could help the Night Elves. It is difficult to believe that something else isn't going on here." She let out a large sigh, looking into the setting son as it slowly descended over the marshlands. "Kaylai Moonblade is your daughter, and I assure you Madam, she has not fallen," the Netherdrake piped up, "We will find her and discover why she has been taken by the Horde. On the blood of my brothers and my honor I swear this". "Thank you Songtalon," Alannaria said, continuing to stroke the Netherdrake's neck.

The sun was setting swiftly, but Alannaria had no intention of allowing the time of day to be a stopping point in her quest. She traveled with Songtalon deep into the night, hoping to reach the Alliance town of Theramore to speak with the town's local leader Jaina Proudmoore. If anyone were to have insight on why and where Kaylai had been taken it would be her.
