#5 of Pokemon Series

A woman in her mid-forties looks over the Rocket infested Pewter city, a sour look on her face. With her partner in Viridian physically injured, and having failed to stop another brat, she was obviously disappointed. Her face had begun to show wrinkles and a few strands of her ruby-red hair began to turn bright silver, despite her vanity to stay looking young and beautiful. Several years ago, she accepted the fact that no one can escape time, discarding her vanity, making her even more terrifying to the Grunts running around with rare and powerful pokemon.

Jessie had taken no chances, the one pokemon she and James had sought to capture had been in their grasp for several years now, and while James had remained lax in many things, she continued to use her iron-hard grip to keep things running smoothly and efficiently. However, with the idea that a group of young brats, calling themselves Freedom Fighters, the Grunts began to get nervous, even as shipments continued to be delayed and sometimes stopped altogether by these band of brats. She knew without a doubt that Ash Ketchum, the official owner of the Pikachu she had locked up in the fortress that is Pewter City, was the one leading them.

She knew that the brats would try and attack Pewter City, now that James had spilled the beans on the location of it. She was more upset at how James had given up the information that, instead of bringing one Pikachu to Giovanni, they had decided to breed it, and bring in a multitude of Pikachu, getting a large bonus for each ten they brought in. James had said that the first offspring of Ash's Pikachu had bested him, proving that it was unwise of her to toss the little white runt off into the wilderness.

As with all pokemon, Jessie couldn't stand weakness, and she had eventually discarded her Wobuffet from her team, keeping her Arbok and Seviper. Meowth had grown old, and died a few months earlier, which probably caused Jessie to become colder and harder on her Grunts she oversaw. With the Meowth gone, the team had officially began to drift apart, her friendship with James was now more of business partners, keeping product flowing smoothly, despite the Freedom Fighters' attempts, and cash coming in. To her, it was all about the money now.

Now, she stands in where Flint's Gym used to be, torn down due to the old man's refusal to sign it over willingly three years ago. When he passed, his children weren't able to stop Rocket's quick destruction of the gym, falsely promising that the gym, and the home, would be rebuilt. Instead, she had ordered them relocated to Saffron, where Rocket's grip was more secure. In place of the gym, she had commissioned a breeding lab, which was swiftly built under her strict supervision.

As Jessie looked out at her personal fortress, she was surprised to see the Striker, slightly late due to the Freedom Fighters no doubt. With the fortress on lockdown, only other Rockets delivering goods would be able to gain entry and exit. She knew that a few of the supplies would be necessary, since Flint's oldest son, Brock, a trainer and breeder, had organized a branch of Freedom Fighters in the caves leading to Cerulean. Even though he employed guerilla tactics, he hadn't gained any ground against Jessie's defenses.

"Executive Jessie, the Striker's here. Shall we ask for their ID?" a Grunt spoke over the radio. She picked it up and clicked the button.

"Ask for identification and a document of the shipment," was all she said into the radio.

Ash continued to form a further plan once they got in. Pewter had changed so much since his last visit with Brock and Flint. Brock had gone back to Pewter to try and run a legitimate breeding center, where trainers who loved their pokemon could leave them there for a certain time, and be notified through the pokedex's new video phone to let them know when an egg was produced. Brock knew what types of food pokemon liked just by glancing at them, whereas his father, Flint, was bringing in a steady revenue of being Pewter's Gym Leader.

John was worried about getting into Pewter in the first place. He didn't know what to expect, and was hoping that Janice could get them through without being searched. He had heard of Pewter City a couple of times as a kid, but that was before Rocket surged to power with incredible speed. For all he knew, Pewter might have a lava moat around it, and Jessie could be utterly insane. James was calm, but showed signs of madness, Jessie could be worse than that.

Janice saw the gate up front, and had a fake ID ready, as well as the clipboard showing the 'merchandise' they were supposed to deliver. She saw several Grunts at the gate, holding up their hands for her to stop. Knowing that stealth was the key, she slowed and stopped a few feet from them and got out, showing them her ID and the document. As she stood there, waiting for confirmation, she thought she saw a silhouette of a ruby-headed woman in the window of a tall building.

As the Grunts handed back her ID and clipboard, the opened the gates, the ploy was working for now. When she got back in the Striker, several Grunts directed her to the garage of the breeding lab, where she backed into for the cargo to be easily unloaded. She put the Striker in park and hopped out, only to be hit on by a Grunt with facial stubble. Sighing somewhat angrily, she glared at him, causing him to take a few steps back.

"I'm here to do a job and get my pay, that's it. You want to be the new courier for Viridian and Pewter City, be my guest. I'll gladly take the time off from those Freedom Fighters," was her bark, and it held a bit more than a bite to it, causing the Grunt to plead immensely to be forgiven. Whoever this Jessie was, she sure knew how to break even the most dim-headed of her Grunts. When everyone was out of the garage and the door closed, she let down the hatch at the back of the Striker, letting the Freedom Fighters out, all of them wearing Grunt uniforms to keep up the infiltration, and carrying medicines in boxes to keep up the guise of a supply delivery.

As they walked into the lab building itself, it looked more like a weapon development facility, with scientists testing new defense weapons in case they get assaulted. John quickly walked up to Janice, who had picked up a box of revives, and headed further in. They saw scientists in lab coats conducting strange experiments in vials and test tubes, and the usual Grunts with their caps on.

When they rounded the next corner, they all stopped short of the intimidating figure of Executive Jessie, who looked like she was about to spontaneously explode. Her eyes went straight to John, with the white Pikachu on his shoulder. She grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him forward, her eyes looking soulless and possessed.

"How did you come across this Pikachu, Grunt?" She asked harshly.

"A jerk off of a Fighter had this Pikachu. When I was able to subdue him, I took this Pikachu, knowing it'd fetch a pretty penny," was all John could say, since he didn't even think of a response ahead of time.

"How did you beat a brat who bested your leading Executive? Tell me that you bastard."

"James doesn't keep his pokemon in shape, I do. Anything else you want to ask ma'am? I have a delivery of sprays and I'm sure you don't want any of them busted."

"Get out of my sight you worm!"

With that, she pushed him back and stepped into the nearest lab, John sighing in relief. With that close encounter, their cover was nearly blown. How he was able to come up with those explanations, he couldn't figure out, but it saved their asses. The Pikachu was surprised herself by keeping herself calm in front of Jessie.

They moved forward and turned at a corner, seeing the breeding lab with it's scientists, trying to get various species of pokemon to procreate for profit. In the middle of the lab was Ash's Pikachu, who looked exhausted and worn out, needing rest after the years in captivity. To the Fighters, it was now or never, so they dug out their medicines and prepared to start a battle from within the fortress's own walls.

As they were about to charge into battle, Janice sent a mental message to them all, saying that they need to get into the lab first before starting the charge, otherwise it'd take a lot longer to gain access. They repacked the supplies and knocked on the shatterproof glass door, one of the scientists speaking through the speaker.

"Those the supplies for the breeding operation?"

"Yes. Now open up, we're already behind schedule."

"Alright, hold your Rapidash..." the scientist said with a heavy sigh as he opened the door.

As soon as the door was opened, they all rushed in and unleashed their pokemon, catching them by surprise. As soon as the last Fighter was in the lab, they shut the door to prevent any Grunt from getting in and disrupting the flow of the operation. Ash quickly went to his Pikachu, who was glad to see him, but also extremely exhausted. He picked up his old friend and held up the pokeball, to which the pokemon politely refused.

Janice noticed Executive Jessie walking by, who noticed what had happened, and saw multiple Grunts pulling out many Rhydon to try and drill through the glass. She looked at the Fighters and knew that it wouldn't be long until they had to fight their way out, even having to go toe-to-toe in physical combat, which many of the trainers weren't ready for.

"Guys, get ready, Jessie's already found us and she looks pissed off," she yelled out, many of the Fighters pulling out a few water-type pokemon to get ready for the Rhydon blitz.

As she had thought, the combined powers of multiple Rhydon drills had taken down the glass walls and were charging towards the group, only to be sprayed by heavy amounts of water. When they went down, several of the Grunts ran off, leaving their pokemon unconscious, and an Executive beyond angry and frustrated. John stepped up, taking off the Rocket cap, grinning a little slyly for being able to outsmart Executive Jessie and the impenetrable fortress of Pewter City.

"You filthy brat, I'll kill you!" Jessie yelled as she ran at him, neglecting to pull out her Arbok or Seviper.

John easily landed a punch straight to her nose, feeling it crunch beneath his knuckles. As she staggered back to hold her broken nose, John wasted no time and pushed forward with his momentum, sweeping his leg under her and causing the aged Rocket to fall onto the linoleum floor, knocking her unconscious. As he stood up, he heard something over her radio, something about Freedom Fighters attacking the Eastern Gate hard.

"That would be Brock," Ash explained as he carried his Pikachu out of the lab. "We should meet up with him and formulate a plan of attack to take back Pewter. His father's pride and joy is destroyed, and he means to set things right by uprooted Jessie's hold here."

"Alright, we fall back. We're too few and the potions we procured aren't enough to keep us all going to take down this fortress."

The radio crackled to life again, stating that the Fighters have taken Pewter and are retreating back to Viridian. John and Ash exchanged stunned looks at how quick the victory was, only to be met by Brock wish his teenage siblings by his side, his arms folded.

"I was hoping to take Jessie out myself, but I guess you did that already Ash."

"No, it was the newest member of my sector, John and Janice. It was their idea to infiltrate Pewter and take them by surprise from the inside."

"Smart thinking. Perhaps now Pewter can be set right."

Ash smiled for the first time in awhile, being reunited with his partner and an old friend, plus retaking Pewter City, was something he had dreamed of in a long time. John held Janice close, kissing her gently as he was glad everything worked so well. One of the Fighters pointed out that Jessie had escaped during the reunion, making it not a total loss, considering that John had bested her physically. They all rested and began to set free the pokemon that were exploited to help generate funds for the Rockets. Now that they had a stable base of operations that can be returned back to the Pewter City that many remember, they had earned a much needed sleep after some quick planning and executing it flawlessly. John smiled, happy to see others who shared his views other than Professor Oak.
