Bad Hero
Weird light shines down as the third moon takes to the sky. A shimmering sheet of scintillating colors descends from the stars to hang like a strange veil between the doors of a local church and the main hall of government. Furs or all to most species take one look at the thing and shut their doors for fear of what it could be.
A feline prostitute is on her way home after having conducting business at a local tavern. She carries a bottle of wine in one hand which she drinks as she travels the alleys when she gets to the plaza and the color wall. Her inebriation impairs her judgment and she makes her way closer to the thing.
On the edge of town a black furred grizzly bear slides down a steep gravel cliff from the mountain caverns that the villagers mine for their livelihood as he desperately tries to save the painted kitty from what he knows is a monstrous predator from outer space. The bear is dressed in a chain mail shirt and black leather pants as he carries a moon blade halberd as his main weapon. His gray eyes betray his emotions as he is desperate to attack the thing and drive it away.
The colors seem to swirl and captivate as the cat draws ever closer with a silly grin on her face. The shouts from the bear running in fall on deaf ears as she is enthralled with the thing. The wall emits vapors that intoxicate her as well as entice to walk into the wall.
As soon as she does her body collapses to the ground: dead and soul-less. The bear hurls his halberd at the color wall as he rushes it, and roars with tremendous power. The crescent moon blades of the halberd glisten in the moon light as flies straight through the wall.
Something about that pole arm must have been enchanted because the color wall swirls again furiously as the vaporous form that looks to some like the cat's soul self escapes and drift away. The wall advances on the bear who glares at it and emits a shrill whistle. The halberd flies back through the wall and into the paws of its master who poses defiantly with a "Bring It!" hand gesture directed at the thing.
The bear cuts a swath out of the wall and some part of the sentience of this thing registers the fact that it could actually lose this fight. The bear seems to be immune to its powers for some odd reason until it sense the fact that this is a ranger of the old ways it faces and that makes the colors seem to swirl in fear. In fact it starts to ascend into the heavens as he continues to slash at it.
Once it leaves a ram priest comes out of the church and yells hateful words at the bear. He blames the ranger for the thing even coming here and the bear just glares and says nothing. The whole town screams at the bear; demanding that he leave town and don't come back.
The bear hangs his head in shame but turns around and leaves as asked. He shakes his head as the priest just smirks at the retreating hero. Behind him a funeral pyre is being built for the whore as the people let her ashes drift off in the wind when all is done as the priest refuses to bless the body and orders everyone to just forget she ever lived and dwelled among them.
