The night was silent in the sahara. Only a few sounds of the animals that lurked in the cover of darkness could be heard. But during the cover of darkness a new commotion was brewing. A pack of african wild dogs nestled comfortably within their dens. But one of the males was anxious about something. His mate was reluctantly accepted within the family pack. Only to be allowed to birth her new pups before the pack would decide if the female outsider could stay. He paced before the den. Sniffing the ground and the air for any sign of incoming intruder's. inside however the female artic fox was shifting within the bed she had made for her new pups. Every so often she would lick her paws as the labor pains grew and grew. Suddenly she began to whimper as she was going into labor. She began to give birth. Her first few pups came out white but with strange coloring upon their fur. The mother didn't care. She licked her pups happily. She had 4 pups during the night.3 males and one female. She was the strangest of the 4. Her face held a black band across her eyes and her spots were rainbow colored. Her tail held a black band upon almost towards the tip of her tail. Her eyes as well as her brother's remained closed. As their father entered the den he sniffed his new pups and nestled beside them.
" what shall we call them."
"what ever you wish to my dear.. but I want the female to be named ..orchid."
The proud parents smiled happily before they soon fell asleep. The pups nursed quietly against their mother. The night was a brand new day for them, as well as for their parents.
as the morning sun began to rise the father had left the den to confront the pack. they held a deep conversation on the fate of the female artic fox whom slept within the den. after some time the other pack mates when to go hunt and the male went to his den and woke up his mate. he had good news. she would be allowed to stay with them. she smiled happily and licked her sleeping pups. their world would be different. she knew that but she hoped that their lives would be fruitfull.
