Well, I am back to writing once more. I have been in school for about 2 weeks and I am already piled high in homework. It kinda sucks, but at least I get to see my friends again! I finally got down to typing on the computer and made another story. I already written a infected story dealing with people coming back to life and biting others....Day X I am looking at you, so I decided to write another story dealing with the topic of how people would react and stabilize to a traumatizing situation. If you do not wish for me to continue the series, please speak up or if you want a request OR if you want me to work on another series. Thank you!

I hope you enjoy as always and please leave a comment so I can figure out what I did wrong! :D

Infected

Robert Wisk the wolf woke up on Monday, September 16, 2011 like any normal day. He had school than had to trot back home down-hearted to find he had homework; likewise, his best friend Rust always followed him home. Rust was his neighbor and close friend, and has been since they were in 3rd grade. Robert only knew the fox as Rust. Rust and Robert were both juniors.

Robert got out of bed, looking over at his alarm clock to see it was 6:30 in the morning, his usual wake up time. Robert stretched in his red briefs, and white tee shirt, letting his muscles push and pull against one another. He admired himself in the mirror, his athletic body covered with grey fur.

"Another day..." Robert mumbled, as he went to the bathroom to tend to his fangs. Robert looked over to see the morning sun peeking out of the open window in his bathroom. The cold air rushed over though the open window; filling his mind with the thoughts of summer finally coming to a close and bowing towards fall.

Like a royal king counting his subjects, Robert made a mental note of what he had to do for homework last night, and what he had done.

"Chemistry...Check." Robert said through muffled lips as the tooth brush slowly massaged his teeth.

"Physics...Check."

Math...Check."

"History...Che-"

Robert's mental notes were scattered when a loud "bang" came from outside. He jumped and put down the toothbrush quickly and peered out the window. The loud bang came from Rust closing the door to outside. Rust felt a presence watching over him and looked up to see two yellow eyes surveying the area. It slightly reminded Rust of a watch dog.

"You know you don't have to watch over me like I am five? I am a junior in high school now." Joked Rust and Rust looked up to see Robert grinning.

"Sure, whatever you say Rust." Robert yelled downward. Robert then looked for his backpack by his bed. He packed all his subjects accordingly, and ran down the stairs only to run back up because he was still in his red briefs and white tee shirt. He changed into a yellow shirt with baggy shorts.

Robert emerged from his house victories, and walked with Rust. Rust was wearing a blue tee shirt that said, "Stupid is as stupid does." Bellow the shirt was a pair of jeans. The trees around them started to change colors for the season fall. Instead of the green they once were, they were a shade of brown, green, or red. Then Rust asked,

"When do your parents get home again?"

Usually, Rust comes over to chat after school because he has nothing better to do. Robert has an Xbox stash in his room. Weekends are packed with gaming marathons. Robert's parents went home at about 4 pm or 5 pm. Robert's mom works as a nurse at a hospital down the street while his Dad worked in the military.

Robert explained this all to Rust. Rust nodded, looking forward into the distance. Something did not seem right to Robert, the atmosphere was too quiet. Where are the cars? Where are the people walking to school? Where is the laughter?

Robert shook these thoughts out of his head, but then looked at Rust to see him biting his lip. Was he thinking the same thing? As Robert and Rust neared the school, their footsteps echoed on the concrete. Two words in big blue letters hung over the doorway that said, "Whisper High School." It really was a whisper. Even the houses around the school stood in silence.

Rust looked over to Robert, and nodded his head once. A newspaper glided its way from the side of the street in front of their path that made them jump. Robert walked up to the school and slowly opened the door. It creaked open slowly, notifying their presence in the building.

"Hello? Anybody here? It is Monday right?!?!" Robert yelled down the hall. The lockers stood with no one opening, or closing, them. Robert looked at the watch around his wrist. 7:50 A.M glowed back at him. Where is everybody?

Robert then looked down the hall to see a person standing with his head low. It was a wolf about 16. He had a blue coat, and was wearing a tee shirt with jeans. Robert noticed he was slowly limping towards them, its right foot dragging. Robert was unsure what he was seeing. Curiosity took over him so he went closer.

"Wait...I don't like this Robert." Rust said. His voice sounded low, and serious.

"Don't worry Rust." Robert said, "It's probably just someone who woke up on the wrong side of the bed."

Robert went in closer to see that the wolf's jeans were ripped in several places like he just got into a fight. His shirt had a very large cut going from the shoulder to the chest. Robert then saw something that made his veins turn cold. The wolf's eyes were bloodshot, and his reflections gave him a darker, more sinister look.

The wolf then lunged at Robert. Rust yelled, and ran over to help Robert out. The wolf grabbed Robert by the shoulders, pulling him closer. Robert felt his words lodge inside his throat; he did not have time to scream. The wolf showed two large pointed fangs and aimed for his neck, but before the wolf could get a grip on Robert, something happened. A blur, and then a large crack as Robert then looked around the person to see Rust. Rust went for the wolf's neck and hit it with the side of his hand. The wolf was stunned, but was not going to give up easily. The wolf leaned forward and fell downward. At least Robert got his shoulders free.

Robert looked over at Rust, and smiled. Rust gave him a nervous grin back. Then the wolf started to get up again. Rust looked back at the wolf downhearted, and in surprise. He gasped, and grabbed the nearest item, a fire extinguisher. Rust ran over to the wolf while Robert was watching it look back up at him with bloodshot eyes. It paralyzed him somehow. Rust used the fire extinguisher as a weapon, hitting the wolf over the head once. It did not get back up.

"Wha-what the hell was that thing?!?" Robert shouted out load.

"I don't know, but it used to be like us." Rust answered.

Robert went over to a locker, and sat down. He let all the information sink in.

"What if there is another one like the wolf?" Robert said while looking over to Rust. Rust's eyes said the one expression they did not want to see, fear. Robert then thought back to when the wolf almost bit him. He could imagine the feel of the wolf's fangs into his shoulder, biting though his flesh. Robert put a hand on his shoulder. Why did the wolf want to bite him?

"Then we fight. I don't know what is going on either." Rust said while breaking Robert from his thought.

Robert thought about this, what if the other people don't know? Then, to answer his question, a sophomore ran down the hall panting.

"Th-the teacher just tried to attack me!" The sergal said while trying to find the right words. He pointed toward a classroom were more people were running out of by herds. Nobody was safe. A fox was too late; a classmate shoved the door in his face in a escape to get out.

His screams were quickly muffled as he fell below the door, never to be seen in the world of the living again.

"We have to get out of here, Rust!" Robert panicked, and started to run in the direction everyone was fleeing in, but felt a hand on his shoulder stopping him. People ran by him, a janitor in uniform bumped into him, but acted like he was not even there. All that these people want to do is survive.

"Don't panic. That will lead us to our death." Rust said while tightening his grip on Robert's shoulder.

Robert turned around, and stared into Rust's eyes for an answer, it finally hit him what they needed to do.

"We need to look for weapons to defend ourselves." Robert said, and he looked down to see a key lying on the floor. The janitor must have dropped it in a hurry to get out. It leads to the athletic department's equipment.

"I know what we can do." Robert said as he leaned over, picking up the golden key that shined in the sunlight. Rust and Robert ran down the hall, dodging anything that was in their way. They decided to call the people who tried to bite them "Infected" due to their bloodshot eyes, and pale figure.

An infected Jackal tried to grab Robert, but Robert reacted quickly, taking it out easily with a one, two punch. It fell to the floor, laying in a crumple next to the place they were looking for, the athletic department storage room.

A wooden door was the separation from the weapons they could use to survive the day. Robert quickly stuck in the key, and gave the knob a good hard twist. It opened instantly, allowing unlimited access to the treasure inside. A few baseball bats and sweaty uniforms lay within.

Robert and Rust took the baseball bats from the storage compartment.

"Ready, Rust."

"Ready, Robert."

The two friends prepared for a battle with the worst outcome.
