#8 of A Boy and His Lucario Series

John carried Lucario around the park on his shoulders. They both enjoyed seeing the park early in the morning. Grass Pokémon were playing in the flowers and Water Pokémon would occasionally jump up out of the large pond. An old woman on a bench was feeding a flock of Pidgey some bread crumbs. Then they saw someone calling something out. They got closer to see it was a girl; she was a little shorter than John and had pretty brown hair that went down a little past her shoulders, she was also wearing a nice light green sun dress.

"Celia! Celia where are you?" She was calling out. John walked up to her.

"Hey, are you looking for someone?" The girl looked over at her visitor.

"Yes, I'm looking for my Pokémon. Her name is Celia, have you seen her?"

"Well, I've seen a lot of Pokémon this morning. What kind is she?"

"She's a Lucario." Lucario's ear twitched at the mention and started to pay attention. John rubbed his chin.

"Hm, the only Lucario I've seen is my buddy here. Do you want us to help you look for her?" The girl's eyes beamed.

"Wow, would you really?" John let out a smile.

"Of course. We'd be happy to help, right Lucario?" Lucario nodded with a smile. The three set out looking for Celia.

"My name's Anissa by the way. I live her in Cerulean."

"My name is John, and I'm from Pallet Town. And this is my friend Lucario." Anissa smiled.

"It's nice to meet you both!" Anissa noticed the splint on Lucario's leg. "Hey, what happened to Lucario?"

"He sprained his ankle when we were at Mt. Moon, he can't walk on it yet so I'm carrying him until it gets better."

"Oh you poor thing." She reached out and touched the splint. Lucario gave out a little yip. "Oh I'm sorry! Here, I have a treat for you." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small biscuit. "They're Celia's favorite, so I think you'll like them too!" Lucario happily ate his biscuit. The three continued down the path calling for Celia. John noticed a rustle in a bush off to the side of the path. We walked over to investigate. He parted the bushes and out popped a yellow blur.

"Thank you! I can't believe I got stuck in those bushes!" John and Lucario's mouths dropped. The yellow blur was a Lucario! Anissa ran up and held the yellow Lucario tight.

"Oh Celia! Thank goodness, I thought I lost you!" John and Lucario were still shocked.

"Anissa! Your Lucario is yellow!" John finally gathered enough breath to speak. Anissa smiled and laughed.

"Yes, she's a shiny Pokémon, haven't you ever heard of them before?" John remembered now. When he was an assistant to Professor Oak he had learned that some Pokémon were different colored than normal. These Pokémon were called Shinys. Celia looked up at Lucario and waved with a smile. Lucario hid his face and blushed. "Thank you both so much for helping me find her! How about we take you out for breakfast as a thank you?" John blushed a bit.

"Are you sure? We could just eat back at our hotel..."

"No, I insist! It's the very least I could do!" Both Anissa and Celia grabbed John's hands and started pulling him.

The girls took the boys to a nice little restaurant down town. They all sat in a booth, trainer next to Pokémon. John had ordered some waffles for him and Lucario. Anissa and Celia were sharing a bowl of oatmeal. Celia would occasionally look over with a smile at Lucario, who would look the other direction blushing.

"So you said you were from Pallet Town?" Anissa asked between spoons of oatmeal.

"Yes, Lucario and I were both born and raised there. We just recently left to begin our Pokémon journey."

"Wow, you guys have come a long way. Celia and I are going to be leaving on our journey soon too!"

"That's something." John said stuffing his face with a waffle.

"Hey, do you guys want to go back to the park with us when we're done? There are lots of things to do there during the day!" John looked at Lucario who gave a little shrug.

"Sure, I don't see why not." Celia gave a little giggle. The giggle surprised Lucario, causing him to drop a waffle, which got stuck on his chest spike.

"Oh I'm sorry. Here, let me help you." Celia said reaching for a napkin. She pulled the waffle off and wiped the spike off with the napkin. "There you go!" Lucario blushed.

"Oh, uh... thank you." Anissa smiled.

"Aw, look at them. They're becoming friends already!" John let out a grin and scratched behind blushing Lucario's ear.

"I have a feeling we all will be."

The park was a fun place to be during the day. Kids ran around playing with each other, the old folks took walks and talked to people on the benches, and bands would come play classical music and swing Jazz in gazebos around the park. One man sat at the edge of the pond sleeping with his fishing lure in the water. It was truly a nice place to be. John and Anissa got to know each other while throwing a Frisbee while Lucario and Celia talked on a bench on the side lines.

"I'm sorry about your ankle, it must really hurt." Celia said to Lucario. He blushed and stuttered as he talked.

"Y-yes, it still hurts a little, and I can't walk on it yet. My Master is very kind for carrying me around while I heal."

"He does seem like a very nice person. He seems to get along well with Anissa too." Lucario looked over at the trainers. They looked like they were enjoying themselves playing with the Frisbee. John wasn't very good at it, and Anissa let out a playful laugh whenever he missed.

"Yes. He is the most kind and caring person I know." Celia smiled.

"I don't know much about you Lucario, but I can tell you're the same way." Lucario turned rosy. "I heard them talking, and how John says you are the best friend he's ever had, so you must be nice. You seem to be able to communicate very well." Lucario looked over at Celia.

"Celia, you seem to be a nice Pokémon, and I'd like to tell you something, but you must promise not to tell anyone." Celia giggled.

"I promise!" Lucario nodded.

"Good. My Master isn't like most trainers, he has a gift."

"What kind of gift?"

"He can understand Pokémon speech." Celia gasped.

"Is that true? Can he really understand what we say?"

"Yes, it's because of that that we know each other so well." Celia looked over a John with astonishment.

"Wow, that's amazing. I've always wished that Anissa and I could talk to each other. That would be so wonderful." A tear ran down Celia's check. Lucario put his hand on hers. She looked up at him with some suspire.

"It's ok, Celia. You don't need to be able to talk to be great friends. When I was still a Riolu, Master wasn't able to understand Pokémon yet, but we were still the best of friends." Celia smiled with tears still down her check.

"Thank you Lucario. You're a good friend." She reached over and hugged him. He was surprised, but hugged her back just the same. John and Anissa had been watching the whole time.

"Aw, just look at them." Anissa said "I'm so glad they get along." John looked at Anissa with a smirk.

"Yeah, I'm glad too."

Night came and everyone said their goodbyes. They all agreed to meet in the park again tomorrow. John hoisted Lucario up on to his shoulders and they headed back to the hotel.

"Wow. What a day, ha Lucario?"

"You bet Master. I had a great time. I really like Celia; I've never met another Lucario. She's really nice." John smiled.

"Well that's good; you've made a new friend."

"What about you Master?" John smiled with a little blush.

"Anissa's really nice too. I think I might have made a new friend today too." The boys made their way back to the hotel and started getting ready for bed. John gave Lucario a candy bar and got his nightwear on. When John wasn't looking, Lucario slipped the candy under his pillow. John crawled into bed and scratched Lucario behind his ear until they both dozed off.

Morning came, and John felt a light poking.

"Master, it's time to get up!" John smiled as he opened his eyes to see Lucario poking him with a smile.

"It's been a while since you've done that."

"It's been a while since I woke up before you to do it!" Lucario laughed. John got out of bed and set Lucario up.

"Are you ready to try again today?"

"Yes Master, I feel better today." John held on to Lucario's side as he tired to walk. He did well; he was able to walk around the room a few times before it started to hurt. John set him back on the bed and changed his clothes.

"Are you ready to go to the park again? The girls will be waiting for us." Lucario grinned and nodded.

"Yes Master. I look forward to it."
