"Encounter"
The sun was blazing, the sand was swirling, and the town was hungry. It was that time of year again where the food supplies ran low and worst of all it was the hottest time of the year. There were very little resources in the markets from water to canned goods and the next supply wouldn't arrive for another month. In the case of an emergency such as that the HDC were the ones to step in.
It wasn't much better for them but they had to make do with what they got. The soldiers all had to split up their rations but as of lately the food supply in their underground base was starting to look a bit small. The general decided that it was time to take action and supply their people with what they needed. When afternoon struck he called every single recruit into the main lobby for their mission briefing.
"As you all know the food supply has been moderately low. The food we have here won't last us another month and neither will the food of our small town. Today each of you will go in pairs and travel to a deserted town or local town to which your duty is to find any food or liquid and bring it back. Do you understand me!"
"Yes General!"
"I will now assign you your partners, James and Michael, Richard and Jason, Wiley and Jessie, and Nikki and Alice. The rest of you will get to work trying to salvage what food in the base and town you can. The world isn't like it was a hundred years ago, the human race depends on us for their safe keeping, are we going to let them down?"
"No General!"
"Now go out their and help our town!"
The ones who were ordered to go to other towns all left to the vehicle bay. They didn't have fancy cars or motorcycles, instead they had steam punk ATV's engineered by the scientists of the HDC. Everyone loaded up on bags, guns and ammo before taking off in separate directions.
"So how is Mia doing? I heard she has a birthday coming up soon." Alice said as she held onto Nikki's waist as they traveled through the waste land.
"She's doing fine and yeah she will be eight in about a week."
"I'll have to get her something then, say Nikki did you ever think of dating again? It's been seven years and you have yet to actually date a guy."
It was true, the man she had loved and that had blessed her with her daughter had been killed.
"I will, I'm just waiting for the right man to come along. Someone who is sweet and kind and will actually care for her."
"He's out there somewhere."
Well that was a nice conversation, it certainly passed the time because now they were in front of the destroyed town of Nasatusa. It was destroyed alright almost every building had been reduced to rubble. Instead of looking together they both decided to separate and look around for any hidden doors or anything that could contain food. The sun wasn't being kind to them as Nikki started sweating immensely.
"I found something!" Alice yelled as she brushed off the dirt from a large safe.
It would have been difficult to open the large metal box if the lock hadn't been broken into pieces. This made easy access for both of them.
"Wow, carrots, potatoes, corn, there's tons of stuff in here."
Now for to pack everything up. They threw every bit of canned food and sacked potato into the large bag before tying it up. Not a bad hall at all They threw the bag on the back of their vehicle and started it up, Alice watched as the town disappeared behind them. It seemed to be going well, no thieves, no demons, that had been the smoothest gathering she had been on.
"Do you hear that?"
From behind them they heard something whistling. It wasn't until they both turned around that they saw what it was, a big fireball coming right towards them.
"Hang on!" Nikka yelled as she tried veering to the left, but it didn't work.
The ball of flames hit the ground right behind them sending them off the ATV and to the ground. They both laid on the ground as their ATV laid on it's side.
"My, my I hit the jackpot. Two beautiful young women, you both look so ripe."
They didn't waste a second, both took out their pistols and fired three rounds into his chest. They though he was out when his head flew back and expected him to burn up, but something was wrong, he was still standing.
"Nice toys you have there, mind if I play?" he replied as he raised his head.
They were all out of bullets and Alice wasn't in to good of shape. When her partner tried lifting her up her right leg collapsed under her as she yelled in pain. It was against her code to leave her partner to die.
"Come any closer and I'll slit your fucking throat!" Nikki scowled in attempt to scare him as she pulled her dagger out.
"Heh, nice attempt at trying to scare me, but I see that you are terrified of me. Your hands are shaking so much." he said as he stepped closer.
Why were her hands shaking? She hadn't been afraid of a demon since her first encounter seven years ago. She tried swiping at him but before her blade even touch his flesh he grabbed her by her neck.
"Just imagine the fun we will have in hell together. Watching you burn alive over and over will get me so excited and watching the savage beasts devour your flesh will make me go crazy." he replied with a grin as his tongue reached out, licking her cheek.
Was she really going to die? What would happen to Mia? Her vision was getting blurry as his grip tightened.
"That's it, die silently and I might spare your little friend."
"L~Liar."
"Your right." he said as he squeezed tighter.
Just before she was about to give in she saw a faint orange shimmer come from the sky above them.
