#2 of A New Start As A Trainer/ part 2

Okay, I know this chapter is WAY overdue....and I am sorry.

Hello SoFurry! I bring you the second part of 'A Battle in the Gardenia'! Hope you are enjoying the chapter so far.....'cause the next one after this will BLOW. YOUR. MIND!.......well, not literally. Also please read the after note, it's important.

Enough jibber-jabber, let's see Lucas' battle now.....

.........

(Normal POV)

"Gardenia, I am Lucas: your next challenger. My friend has won his battle and I tend to do the same thing as he."

"Well, confident aren't we? Well, you're gonna need more than CONFIDENCE to win this....I can assure you." She said confidently as the battle soon began.

"Go, Cherubi!" cried Gardenia as the red cherry-looking Pokémon was summoned out. Lucas scanned through his Pokémon and their moves and decides his first Pokémon:

"Gallade, you're up first!" he said, tossing his ball to the center of the field. Gallade is shown as the light dispenses, him in his battle pose. The trainer rummage through his moves and gave the first order:

"Gallade, Magical Leaf!" the Pokémon tossed one arm over himself to whip up the foliage, then the other to launch them at the Cherubi. Gardenia was quick to retaliate: "Duck, then use Leech Seed!" The cherry Pokémon just BARELY missed the attack and then shot out seeds like a machine gun.

"Quick: use Double Team!" Lucas cried, getting a little nervous on how fast this leader can think and plan. Gallade wasted no time in jumping up and creating the duplicates. The seeds passed through a clone, dispensing it; Lucas saw this as an opening.

"Now, Magical Leaf again!" he commanded. The copies of the Blade Pokemon sent out a huge wave of foliage and sent them flying at the small Cherubi. Before Gardenia had a chance to react the MG made contact with its target, dealing massive damage even when it's not very effective. The Cherubi fell backwards, KO-ed; the announcer let out a bellowing wail:

"Cherubi is unable to battle; the winner of this match is Gallade!"

Gardenia returned Cherubi as if nothing was wrong, throwing out her Turtwig. Lucas decided to keep out Gallade since he needed to be frugal with his attacks and Pokemon uses; he still had Monferno and Lucario in his party, he couldn't use Flygon because 1) he could only use three Pokemon and 2) Flygon was inexperienced when it comes to battling.

"Okay, things are getting interesting now; okay Gallade: Psycho Cut!" Lucas commanded, getting excited on this battle: he was an easy time defeating time beating Gardenia in the DS game.....and this, to him, was no different. Gallade's arm glowed a purple and he slashed, sending an arc towards the "sitting-Psyduck" (Pokemon humor).

"Oh, playing hard ball now...aren't we? Turtwig, Tackle!" Gardenia smirked; her Turtwig waited a few seconds then disappeared with super speed, the attack hitting where it was there.

(Lucas' POV)

"What the hell?! Where did that turtle go?" cursed Gallade; I knew, by experience and the Pokemon shows, how fast Gardenia trains to make her Turtwig to be. I had to figure something out.....and fast:

"Gallade, keep your guard up: use Protect!" I was NOT going to take any chance in this battle.....not when I have the lead so far. Gallade, reluctantly, put up the blue barrier; seconds later Turtwig rammed into it. Gallade was taken by surprise: how did his trainer KNOW that Turtwig was that fast and was going to do that?!

"Lucas....how did you-"

"I knew that move: Gardenia trains her Turtwig on how to have incredible speed......just like when I train Lucario on HIS speed and Monferno's evasion, Gallade; I focus, with you, on power. Am I right Gardenia?" I grinned at the Gym Leader, she chuckled and nodded:

"Yes, that's right.....but how did you know?"

"Let's just say that I saw you battle someone else BESIDES Shane before and you were VERY strong against him." I said, knowing she wouldn't be able to know who I'm talking about: Ash Ketchum (I THINK that's how you spell it).

"Oh, well I still have some tricks up my sleeve that probably YOU never thought that I had: Turtwig, Leaf Storm!" The turtle through his head up, foliage surrounding him like a twister, then flung it forward, unleashing the twister of wind and leaves.

'Shit! I forgot that move!' I cursed inside my mind as I yelled my next move:

"Gallade, Double Team.....quick!" Without any need to tell him twice, of course, he formed multiple copies of himself and tried to spread himself across the arena.....to no avail: the attack was too fast and too strong, it sailed through all the copies until it hit Gallade; it pushed him hard into the wall, and I feared that he could be knocked out.

"Gallade!" I cried, wanting to rush to him but I couldn't: I would be disqualified from the battle and I would have to do it AGAIN from the start. As the dust settled I was brought that Gallade didn't faint, he was weakly holding himself up by his knees.

"Quick, Recover!" I ordered, but he was already ahead of me: he glowed neon blue, some of the visible scratches now slowly dissolving away.

"Oh no you don't: Turtwig, Tackle!" Gardenia commanded: Turtwig ran, picking up speed until it head-butted my Pokemon in the stomach, pushing him against the wall yet again, and then falling onto his face. I saw his eyes become swirled....a KO.

"Gallade is unable to battle: the victory goes to Turtwig!" I sighed as I walked over to my Pokemon, lucky I can do it when it's in a small break like this; I knelt down and helped him up to his feet, seeing some shame in his face as he kept looking down.

"Sorry Lucas, I lost."

"Hey, you did great: I couldn't have asked anything more from you than what you did, you really were excellent. Let's get you over to the guys, you deserve some rest." I said, helping him walk over to the gang: everybody took over from there as I let them care for Gallade: I still had a match to finish.

"Okay, now to step thing up a notch: let's go Monferno!" I said, throwing my Fire-chimp's ball out. He burst out of it, soon doing his weird little dance then getting into position.

"Monferno, this is no time to play around: I know you have the advantage in type...but you HAVE to stay focused in this battle!" I said, hoping he still won't clown around.

"Got'cha, piece of cake." He said, giving me a thumbs-up, then going into his stance. I gave my first command, hoping it will be good enough and fast enough:

"Okay, now Flamethrower!"

"Dodge it, the Tackle again!" My opponent cried; her Turtwig side-stepped and then raced besides the flames. 'Time for a little meet-up' I thought.....thinking this will KO her Turtwig.

"Monferno, Flame Wheel!" He began to spin like Sonic the Hedgehog and shot out towards the racing Pokemon; both headed for each other in great speed, I held my breath........

"Boosh!" An explosion rang out, sending some smoke to the others; I thought "How could two attacks make that big of an impact?' since I knew both of them couldn't do that....I soon forgot that when I saw Monferno standing in front of a KO-ed Turtwig.

"Turtwig is unable to battle; the victory goes to Monferno!" I cheered as Monferno jumped into my arms, giving me a very warm hug.

"Nice job Monny, you did great: let's wrap this up now."

"You got it Lucas!" He said as I threw him out onto the field (it was like an assist for someone doing a backflip in RL, a foot stool person); he landed easily after doing a front-flip. Gardenia just rolled her eyes as she returned Turtwig and sent out Roserade, her most powerful Pokemon. Monferno had a VERY big advantage in type here: he was Fire and Roserade was Poison and Grass.....double the effective-ness, though I'm sure Gardenia made sure that she found ways to protect her Roserade from these sort type of battles.

"I'll stick with Monferno here.....you can have the first move this time." I said, hoping that maybe she'll let me be able to see how strong she is with Roserade here.

"Alright, fine," She looked up and saw that the sun was blocked by a cloud and grinned "Roserade, Weather Ball!" I was curious on what she would do with the attack until I saw Roserade jump up, make this sort of Water ball from the clouds blocking the sun and then fire it at Monferno.

"Quick, Dodge it!" But I was too late: it splashed against him, drenching him and knocking him down...but not out. He grunted and got to his feet, probably mad from that attack.

"Oh? Wanna play hard ball?" He said, his fist starting to go ablaze "Well, I'll play hard ball!" My Monferno, out of rage of the attack, learned a new move: Fire Punch. I was amazed......then got an idea:

"Monferno, use your newest move: Fire Punch!" He ran at Roserade, fire in his eyes AND on his hand for the punch.

"Roserade, Dodge it." Gardenia said calmly, thinking nothing of Monferno and his attack until she heard a yelp of pain: she was too late in telling Roserade to dodge and the attack connected. Monny jumped back and I cheered, knowing that I CAN win this.....but that soon disappeared as Roserade got up, looking as if nothing happened.

"See? A new move can't just win the battle like that....you have a LONG way to go if you want to beat Gym leaders like me and Maylene and others. You even have plan that you think up at any time, thinking that they're perfect....even when there are visible holes in them that anyone can break; if you want to win against ANYONE, you need to be more vigilant and have better strategies than what you have now. "Now, Magical Leaf!" She extended her arm and shot dozens of high-speed leaves at Monferno.

"Uh-uh...Flamethrower!" I stuttered, thinking that Gardenia could be right: maybe I'm NOT a good trainer....that I just got lucky in my first Gym battle; I DID just barely win it with Lucario. Monferno sent out the flames and burned all the leaves that came close to it...but some slipped by and even went pass Monferno, scratching me a few times; the pain snapped me out of my trance and I focused more on the battle at the moment.

"Come on Monferno, don't focus on the power of the flame....but the size and how much it covers!" I said; he seemed to have heard me and then minimize the radius of it to make it more piercing as it sliced through more and more of the attack until it hit the Roserade, making her yelp.

"Roserade!" I heard Gardenia cry; I had one more shot to try and win this....

"Gardenia, you said I wouldn't be able to win by just relying on tactics from a moment's notice....well, THIS was at a moment notice: Monferno, Flame Wheel at full power!" I said; he jumped up from a tree high in the air and spun in a viciously fast wheel with flames just pouring out of the rotation. He plunged towards the Roserade, spinning faster and faster by the second.

"Roserade, get up!" Gardenia cried, seeing her Pokemon only weakly get to its legs, then fall to its knees yet again.

"Now, bring it down!" I cried, seeing Monferno ram into the Roserade with such force that I felt a bit of heat in the attack. There was dust....lots of dust surrounding our Pokemon; after it cleared I saw my Pokemon, coughing and wheezing from the energy exhertion and I saw Roserade on the ground swirly-eyed.

"Roserade is unable to battle; the victory of this battle and the match is Monferno and Lucas!" I couldn't believe it: I won the battle...my second Gym battle. I ran over to Monferno and caught him right when he was about to fall over; he looked at me and asked if I won.

"Yeah, WE did....YOU did actually: your attack beat Roserade. I'm SO proud of you Monny!" I said, hugging him close to me and bearing my face in his head fur. I heard everyone cheer out Monferno's name and thought 'Okay...maybe a little much.' But I thought he deserved it: he beat Gardenia's prized Pokemon AND won the match for us.

............

(Normal POV)

Lucas, with Monferno still held in his arms like a small toddler and Gallade and Lucario on his sides, stood with Gardenia in front of the Gym and saw Shane take his badge from the woman; Shane bowed in respect as he walked over to Lucas.

"Your turn."

Lucas, carrying Monny with him and Gallade to his side, walked up to Gardenia.

"Lucas, in light of your excellence, for beating me and my prized Roserade....I present to you this," She held out a small green badge with three triangles on it "the Forest Badge: proof you have beaten me fair-and-square in a Pokemon battle."

"Awesome, thank you." Lucas said, taking the badge and then continued to carry his chimp. He had one thing on his mind after even TOUCHING the badge:

'Two down, six to go.'
