So I realized that I lost interest in writing my last story because it was way too jumbled and unorganized. I had Chapters 1-6 written, then 10-13, and 15-20, the I skipped ahead to the next part, and yeah. Its a mess. So, I'm starting clean, and taking it one chapter at a time with a new story. Enjoy!

"'Tis a shame, isn't it?"

The young adult fox slowly nodded, letting out a depressing sigh. He looked toward the brown coyote that spoke to him.

"It really is, she's the second one this month." They both looked down in to the courtyard, shaking their heads. "Makes you wonder how many of them are left, eh?"

The coyote gave a slow nod, watching as a little bit of blood dripped down the white muzzle of a fox below. "I would imagine not too many, our damn 'president' already slaughtered thousands of them without even thinking twice. Lost quite a few good friends because of him."

The fox couldn't bear looking at the sight of a young arctic fox hanging on a noose down below anymore, and had to get away. He turned back to the coyote and gave him a pat on the back. "Hey, I gotta get out of here, I'll see you around, ok?"

"Ok, sounds good to me. Just make sure that if you see one of those foxes, to stay clear away from them, ok? No point in getting hung for even knowing one."

The fox was already walking away and gave him a little wave, showing he understood. He walked down the steps of the courtyard and back on to the streets of the big metropolis around him. The vulpine walked by several police officers on the street. He then started to think about the cops negatively.

'Pff, to call them police officers is a sin. Damn scum of the earth is what they are.' He tilted the brim of his top hat forward and ruffled his jacket up a bit as he passed them by. It was a cloudy day in the city, and the cool ocean breeze didn't make things too much better. The fox looked to the sky and huffed. He knew it was going to rain soon, and he had to find shelter for the rest of the night before that happened. But before then, he had to relax and release his thoughts at one of his favorite places in the city; on top of one of the taller buildings.

He walked down the street for a few more blocks, then turned and ended up at the entrance of the steel building. He walked in and gave a wave to the receptionist, a nice looking rabbit lady, and headed in to the elevator. A few long minutes later, he was at the top floor, and simply walked to the roof access stairs and padded to the door. With a gust of wind pushing against the door, he struggled a bit getting it open, but managed and walked to the edge of the roof. He sat down, and started scanning the horizon. He was in the direct center of the city, and he could see the massive city walls thirty miles away. The walls that only a select few furs were allowed to come or go. The walls surround the whole city with the exception of the west side, where the ocean laid. He watched the faint ghost looking ships on the horizon, grey looking from the clouds. The fox sighed, and looked through a few of the several large parks in the city.

After a few moments, he decided to get some food and look for shelter. He got out of the high rise and walked to a nearby diner, one of his personal favorites in town. He walked in and gave a wave to the otter that was serving a family of red foxes. She quickly served them and ran up to the fox with joy.

"Hi Addy, how are ya?" Addan smiled at the cheerful otter, brightening up his day a little.

"Well, with the exception of this afternoons' episode, I'm feeling quite ok. Just wishing this rain would hold off for a bit longer." They both looked outside at the dark and gloomy horizon. The young otter looked at Addan with worry.

"You have someplace to stay, right?"

"Don't worry about me, I can hold my own out there." He walked over to a table and sat down. "Just get the usual for me, please."

"Ok, it'll be right out."

She smiled as she walked away, and the fox sighed and looked at the fox family across the diner. The mom was a bright orange, and the dad was red and silver, both in their late 40's. They had a teenage son, with the look of grey fox and the hint of a red in him.

'Quite the handsome kid, he is.' Addan thought to himself. He started to think about how lonely he was, with no family, no job, no roof over his head. The fox started thinking about his own family, and then a plate in front of him snapped him out of his daydream.

"Enjoy your meal, cutie." Addan smiled at the otter.

"You're sweet, Brit." Addan wasted no time in digging in to his chicken fried steak meal. He started thinking back to where he was going to stay that night. He figured probably a park, he saw an old shack in one of them not too long ago he post up for the night. His eyes drifted back to the fox family, and noticed the look of distress on the dads face.

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but I forgot my wallet. If you don't mind, I'll go home real quick and grab it." Addan didn't even let the otter respond, as he yelled across the diner:

"Don't worry about it." He got up and walked to the table, pulling out two twenty dollar bills and placing them on the table. "It's on me, sir." A look of relief came across the older foxes face.

"You are too kind, what is your name, son?"

"Addan, sir. Addan Delano." Addan extended a paw and shook with the older fox.

"Well Addan, thank you very much. I appreciate it. My name is James, and this is my wife Carol, and our son Sig." Addan looked down and smiled at the family.

"It's my pleasure to help out. Now if you don't mind, I need to finish my meal. Have a nice evening, guys."

"You too, Addan." Addan walked back to his seat as the family left the diner in to the cool evening air. Brit the otter came up to him and gave him the change from the family's meal.

"That was very kind of you Addy." The fox had a serious look on his face and stood up, handing her another five dollars.

"Yeah, when you don't have a family, you learn to appreciate others. Keep the change, hun. I'll see you around." And with that, he walked out and headed toward the nearest park.

After walking for five blocks, he came up to it, just as it started to rain. Addan walked through a path that led him to a smaller path that ran next to a river. After walking for a bit more, he came up to the shack and walked in. It was small, but watertight and empty. There was some old grass in there like someone had slept in there previously. He laid down and started to drift off, as the rain outside got heavier and heavier. The sound of the rain and the river nearby had him falling asleep fast.

Just as he closed his eyes for the last time, he perked up a little as he heard a low rumble. The fox sat up as it got louder, then suddenly a wall of water swept over the shack and hit Addan like a brick wall. The shack got swept away, and Addan found himself trying to stay afloat as he got swept downriver. He cried out for help, but knew that nobody was around. The fox flailed helplessly and looked ahead, coming up to a bridge and narrowly missing a pillar from it. He turned back around to see a large piece of wood from the shack coming at him, and he closed his eyes as it hit him in the head at full speed. The next thing Addan knew, he was waking up...
