Part 1 - Finding a peaceful pack home

[the year is 2100 the world is still the same as it was except for technology. Hybrids and humans now populated the earth. there are still very few hybrids around as the humans try to segregate themselves but to no success. and now 50 years later( bringing it to 2150), they live, work, and fight together.

Hiero was born in a litter of four. he was the only boy among three girls, jasmine, Jessica, and jessminder (Jessie for short). they lived in a broken apartment barely big enough for all of them. his sisters and mother got the only bedroom while him and his father slept on a pull out bed in the living room.

they had very little money but manage to scrape together what they had to get this place. their mother was a waitress who worked at a local bar, barely bringing home any money regardless of how much she had in tips while their father was a bus boy and dishwasher at the same bar. even with their combined income, they could barely afford anything except the basics and this apartment. even the local school wasn't any better. thieves and bullies everywhere you turned. Hiero was constantly getting into trouble for fighting, either for himself or for his sisters. life at the bottom of the barrel was hell. Hiero was born in a litter of four. he was the only boy among three girls. there names were jasmine, Jessica, and jessminder (Jessie for short). we lived in a broken apartment barely big enough for all of us. my sisters and mother got the room while me and my father slept on a pull out bed in the living room/kitchen. we had very little money but manage to scrape together what we had to get this place. my mother was a waitress who worked at a local bar, barely bringing home any money regardless of how much she had in tips. my father was a bus boy and dished washer at the same bar. even with their combined income, we could barely afford anything except the basics and this apartment. the local school wasn't any better. thieves and bullies everywhere you turned. Hiero was constantly getting into trouble for fighting, either for himself or for his sisters.

life was at the bottom of the barrel was hell. our parents tried everything they could but to no success. we didn't know if we would ever leave this place, stuck in this hell on earth. finally, after 5 years, it seems we would leave this place.

after 5 years of hell, our mother received a letter from her mother telling her that her father was in the hospital and that he was in bad shape. he wanted to see us one last time before he passed from this world. included in this letter were plane tickets and a note that said to bring all clothing and possessions. she was skeptical at first but followed the note as requested.

we flew from south Carolina to new York the next day, arriving just after lunch. when we arrived there was a limo driver waiting for us at the entrance to take us to our grandmothers house. We all looked from one another then back at the limo, puzzled as to why it was waiting for us. as far as We knew our grandparents were hardworking people but weren't rich but after coming up with no conclusion, we gave up and followed the driver back to the limo, our luggage hand.

as we climbed in, i had sat by the window watching as the limo pulled out of the airport until finally I started to drift off, tired from the trip and fell asleep. what felt a few mins turned out to be an hr, I soon realized after being woken up by Jessie. I had forgotten where we were and what we were doing until the limo pulling up to a huge house. we couldn't believe what was outside the limo window, a huge and spacious front yard, gardens bordering the walkway to and from the yard, and our grandmother sitting on the huge front porch.

the limo driver got out, opened the door for us, and open the trunk to unload our luggage. our grandmother came down the porch and hugged each one of us in turn.

"my dear daughter, how was your trip?" she asked

"it was good. it went very smoothly despite the fact we had brought everything with us."

she turned to me and my sisters, smiling and hugging each one of us in turn.

"my my my. how you children have grown since the last time I saw all of you. why dont all three of you go Inside? there are sandwiches in the fridge for all of you. I need to talk your parents."

obediently, we all went inside the house. afterwards, we went outside and played. it felt good to actually have a place to play, not a cramped and small apartment which you could barely move in. by dinner time we were pretty much tired so we all took our baths, ate dinner, and went upstairs to the guest bedrooms to sleep.

tossing and turning, I couldn't sleep so I went to find mom, only to find that her beds was empty and so was grandma's bed. I went downstairs and saw the light on in the living room, hush voices drifting up the stairs.

Grandma was sitting in a reclining chair on the other side of the living room but couldn't see me on the stairs. mom and dad were facing away from me, sitting on the couch, as they were discussing something but judging by the hush tones, they didn't want us to hear them.

"I don't know how long he will last. the reason to his condition was a heart attack. it has weaken him considerably. the doctor says he doesn't have long so he wanted to see all his children before he passed. I have arranged for all of us to go up the hospital tomorrow."

I couldn't believe it. I wondered where grandpa was but I didn't think it was this serious. I carefully made my way back up to bed. I laid there, wondering about tomorrow, and finally fell asleep.

We were all awoken by our mother the next morning, telling us to get up and dress nicely. we were going to visit grandpa today. we all got up, each taking a bath, and then getting dressed in comfortable but nice clothes. we had breakfast and left for the hospital, arriving 30 mins later, and checked in at the desk. grandma led us to the elevator and took us to the 19th floor. we followed her until she stopped at a door with a sign that read "patients: takahata Kasumoto". she went in first and came back 5 mins later and told us to go in.

our mom went in, followed by us. Grandpa was laying in a bed, monitor attached to him and I.V.s running to bags hanging from holders. we looked at him as he finished talking to our mother then he looked at us and smiled.

"my, my. what have I unleashed on this world?" he said jokingly.

"all these young faces here today to see me. how time flies. the last time I saw all of you, you were just born. now look at all of you growing up. it fills my heart with joy to see all of your faces. I just wish I could have spent more time with this new generation but sadly I can not. but at least I got to see all of you again." he smiled warmly as we all filed around the bed, avoiding the I.V.s, and hugging his arms. as we all pulled away, he sighed happily. "please tell your father I would like to speak to him."

my mother ushered us out of the room as our father came in. we waited a bit before he came out, looked at my mother and grandmother, and shook his head signaling that he was gone.

he was cremiated the next day. even thought none of us knew him like our parents, just knowing i would never see him again clawed at me. we spent the next two days at my grandmothers house. she was still depressed over grandpa passing but tried her hardest not to show it in front of us but we knew what happened when her room door closed and when she tried to sleep at night.

finally, grandmother and mom went to the reading of the will and to pour grandpa ashes over his favorite cliffside hideaway where he would allows fish, while we stayed at the home under the watchful eyes of the neighbors. they returned a few hrs later.as they came in the door, our mom just looked at us, cried and hugged us, while grandma went inside the house to place the empty urn atop of the fireplace. we couldn't figure out quite why she was smiling as she cried. she finally stop and looked at us.

"your grandfather has left something for all of us to share. he left us a new home."

we couldn't believe our ears. a new home? we didn't understand fully until she told all of us to grab all of our clothes and possessions. that we were going home. we all figured we were going back to south Carolina so we said our goodbyes and climbed into the limo. we were in the limo for half an hour when the limo began to stop and the driver got out. he opened the door and we got out in front of a beautiful beachside house. our parents looked at us, surprised and wonder showing on our faces.

"welcome home kids. welcome to our new lives."

and thought to myself welcome to the end of hell. population: 6
