Chapter Thirteen - Last Leg of School

Dixon

Hurrah for holidays, school is coming to its last stretch. It'd been a while since the episode that happened at the park and we hadn't heard from the South Side school since, I don't know what had happened and I don't really care, what I do care about is that they are finally leaving us alone. At this time of year the students of our school try to organise a 'last day event' for when the school finishes for the holidays, it was an idea that the principal brought up and that's probably why we like the guy. We all were sat in the courtyard under the big tree discussing what we should do.

"We need to think of something that would be good for all the year groups?" Some girl suggested,

"Something that would benefit all of us... that's gonna be tough." Irvine said,

"Man, it gets harder to think of something every year." Foxx said,

"We just need to think of something we haven't thought of yet." The girl said,

"Thinking is Irvine's weakness." Foxx laughed,

"Har de har har buddy." Irvine moaned,

"Something... fun and fitting with the theme of the holidays." Vivian said to herself.

She looked over at me to see what I was doing, I was sat shredding bits of paper with some of the little kids stood in front of me. When I finished I threw the paper in the air and it came down like snow, she watched as all the little kids jumped around in it they looked really happy.

"Guys... I think Dixon may have an idea." Vivian said,

"Who... Me?" I said looking puzzled,

"Yep... it's winter yeah... so, here's my idea." Vivian said.

She had a good idea actually, it was actually two ideas since both ideas didn't really work for both parties... the first idea was to fill the school gym with fake snow stuff and let the smaller kids play around, since it didn't always snow in Gigotropolis this would be nice in case it didn't snow again... the other idea was for the older years, it was another one of those dance ideas... we make the school hall look all snowy and Christmassy and... well... dance I guess. Later that day we all began walking out of school, Vivian had taken her proposal to the principal and he approved it and informed the school, so everyone was excited about it. Rico and me were on our way to meet the others when we were stopped by some girls.

"Hello boys." One of the girls said,

"Hey there, can we help you lovely ladies with something?" Rico asked,

"Well, you've heard about the holiday dance haven't you?" She said,

"Why of course." Rico said feeling he knew what was being asked,

"Would you like to go with me, Mr Rico?" She giggled,

"Hmmmm, I'll have to think for a second... a seconds too long, sure I'll go with you." Rico grinned.

The other one walked over to me and leaned into my face.

"And you sexy fox boy... would you like to go with me?" She asked.

I hated to say no to a pretty face... but I was going to have to.

"I'm sorry... but I can't." I said,

"Has someone else already asked you?" She pouted,

"Not really... but..." I started,

"You just don't want to... I understand." She said looking disheartened,

"It's not... I mean is I... help me out here buddy." I pleaded with Rico,

"It's true... he's got the hots for that Sil'ferr chick." Rico said bluntly,

"Nice way of putting it man." I said,

"Sil'ferr Aurora... well if things don't work with her... I'll be waiting for you." She said as they walked off,

"You know Dix... I think I'm in there." Rico grinned,

"Yeah... but did you have to put it like that... I mean... she's not just a chick you know." I said,

"I know man... they got the message though." Rico said,

"I didn't like the way she said 'If things don't work out with her'." I said,

"Hey man... things will work out with her, believe me... even Casanova couldn't please a girl like you do." Rico joked,

"That's exaggeration on the highest level..." I said,

"Yeah well... your different these days dude... even more light and chirpy." Rico said,

"Heh heh well..." I started,

"Come on we have to meet the guys." Rico said.

We carried onwards to where the others were waiting for us, as we arrived Jennifer waved over to us.

"Hey guys, what's up?" Jennifer asked,

"Oh nothing... cept I got me a date with Sakura!" Rico grinned from ear to ear,

"Sakura... the cheerleader Sakura?" Vivian asked,

"The one and only." Rico said,

"You lucky guy... how come the cheerleaders won't ask me to the dance?" Irvine said,

"Because you try too hard, you need to play it cool like Rico." Foxx said,

"It's too bad about you and Jono Jen..." Vivian said changing the subject,

"We weren't compatible... besides, I found someone else." Jennifer blushed,

"You kept that quiet... who is it?" Irvine asked,

"You all know him... very well." Jennifer said,

"Hmmmm... I dunno... go on tell us." Vivian said.

Jennifer looked over at Foxx and he smiled.

"It's me guys." Foxx said still smiling,

"Well I'll be..." Irvine said,

"It turns out me and Foxx have a lot in common." Jennifer said,

"That's great." I smiled.

Just then someone tapped me on the shoulder, I looked back and saw Sil'ferr smiling back at me.

"Hey there." I said giving her a little kiss,

"Hey yourself Mr Dayne." She smiled back,

"So are you guys going to the dance?" Vivian asked,

"But of course, that is... if you will go with me Miss Aurora." I said holding her hand,

"What's with all the formality guys?" Irvine asked,

"Who knows?" Jennifer said,

"It makes it sound all posh and classy... of course I will go with you Dixon." She said,

"I am the luckiest guy in the world aren't I?" I said,

"Yeah... and that makes me the luckiest girl in the world." She said,

"Come on guys... enough with the gooey romance stuff already." Irvine said,

"Why can't more guys be like him?" Vivian said,

"Otherwise there'd be no guys left?" Rico joked.

Jennifer and Vivian punched him in the arm.

"Well it seems we're all going with someone." Rico said,

"Not me..." Irvine said,

"And me." Vivian added,

"I'm sure you can find someone to go with Viv, being all sexay and all... its Irvy I'm concerned about." Rico said,

"The master has become the student." I laughed,

"I feel as low as you can get now... dissed by the one guy who I thought would've gone the longest without a relationship." Irvine said,

"Aww, come on Irvy... you'll find someone. I bet you can do it." Vivian said,

"Will you go with me?" Irvine said,

"Now now Irvy, I'm not that desperate." Vivian smiled,

"Aww well worth a try." Irvine shrugged,

"Crash and burn again for the mighty Irvine!" Foxx chuckled,

"Lets go guys... before we make him cry." Rico said.

Chapter Fourteen - Preparing for a Winter Wonderland

Sil'ferr

A winter themed dance... I couldn't think of any other excuse to get all gorgeously dressed up, oh sorry... getting carried away there. Anyway to the point at hand, we were all still talking about the dance, some more than others, Irvine was slightly blue for the fact that he doesn't have anyone to go with yet, so I decided to try and talk to him.

"I'll be back in a second Sil'ferr." Dixon said,

"Sure." I said.

I walked over to Irvine and sat next to him, he looked at me and wondered what I wanted.

"Hey Irvy, how's life with you?" I asked,

"Life... don't talk to me about life." He joked.

I laughed, Marvin... he really did like that robot... he seemed to always have something to say and it was usually from a movie.

"Just a little down cos no one wants me." He said,

"Don't be... I'm sure there's someone for you, just don't be too forward, be a little softer." I said,

"Oooh... I don't think I can do that... I've always been this way, guess I thought it would be easy." He said,

"Doesn't look like it is to me." I said,

"But what can I do to change? If I can't be myself... then what's the point?" He said,

"You could try changing who you are... then you can still be yourself." I said,

"I don't know what's preferable... I'd end up making a fool of myself." He sighed,

"No you won't... if no one can like you if you try hard then I don't know what they expect from you." I said,

"What attracted you to Dixon?" He asked,

"What attracted me to Dixon?" I said feeling myself turning red,

"That could be a start." He said,

"Well... erm..." I stuttered,

"I understand if you don't want to." He said looking away,

"Sorry... it's just I never thought I'd be talking about guys with a guy." I said.

He gave a soft chuckle and listened again.

"I don't know really... it's whenever I'm near him I feel all warm and fuzzy." I said,

"Enough information there." He laughed, "Anything besides the warm and fuzzy?"

"Well, he's quite gentle, he's very passionate and a good pillow." I grinned,

"A good pill... oh yeah... Jen's party, anything else?" He said,

"He's got a cute butt." I giggled,

"I never noticed." He chuckled,

"He can sing... and has gorgeous green eyes. " I sighed,

"You know what... I think I know what I have to do." He said,

"You do?" I asked hoping he'd tell me,

"Tell the others I left, I have some things I need to do. Thanks Sil'ferr, you've been a big help." He said as he got up to leave,

"Glad I could help." I said as he left.

Dixon came in along with the others he looked around for Irvine and then looked at me.

"Where'd Irvy go?" He asked,

"He said he had something to do and left." I said,

"I wonder what could be up that'd make him leave this place of all places." Vivian said.

Everyone just shrugged, I sat and wondered myself although I had some idea of what he was up to I was curious to find out exactly what he was doing. It was starting to get late and we all started filing out before the owner threw us out again there was still no sign of Irvine we all started to really wonder what he was up to.

"What could he possibly be up to?" Rico asked to no one in particular,

"Who knows... the guy is full of surprises." Vivian said,

"I just hope he can do whatever it is he's doing." Dixon said,

"I'm sure he will... he may have a hard head, but he has a good heart." I said,

"You always have something good to say about people... have you ever said anything bad about anyone?" Rico asked,

"No... not really, have no reason to." I replied,

"That's what I like about you." Dixon grinned,

"That's so sweet." I smiled and gave him a hug,

"Come on... in the middle of the street as well." Vivian pretended to gag.

Everyone laughed, it seemed to be a mood picker upper tormenting Dixon and me... it was harmless though, deep down we knew they were happy for us. As we walked along I let my mind wander, I cast my mind back over the time we had been together... and not just me and Dixon... all of us, I came to this city knowing no one and knowing nothing about the place I was now living and they took me into their group and now we were an inseparable unit.

"Huh?" I said,

"You looked miles away, thinking about something?" Dixon said,

"No... not really, just glad I have something to cling to." I said clinging to him,

"I'm gonna call him squishy and he will be my squishy." Jennifer joked,

"Very funny..." Dixon groaned,

"I dunno... you could be my squishy." I giggled,

"Stop giving her ideas..." Vivian said,

"I hug my squishy to death." I joked,

"I live my life as a squishy... whatever a squishy is?" Dixon sighed.

We carried on walking along, Dixon still trying to figure out what a squishy was while the rest of us chatted away. Soon enough we spotted Irvine and tried to catch up with him but ended up losing him as he turned a corner, we all looked at each other and wondered where or what he was doing. Deciding to forget about it until we saw him again tomorrow we headed home, as usual we split and headed in different directions. As Vivian, Dixon and me were walking along we spotted someone stood in the road, he was stood facing us with his hands in his pockets but since it was dark we couldn't see his face, Dixon didn't look too keen about passing this guy but I just told him he was being silly and we carried on. As we neared the person stood in the road he took his hands out of his pockets and took a few steps towards us, we heard footsteps all around us as more people came out from the shadows and surrounded us, Dixon was right to feel bad about this.

"So hero, we meet again." He said,

"I was hoping to never see you again Sean." Dixon practically growled,

"I'm not here to cause trouble..." Sean said,

"Sure looked like that when you let your buddies nearly kill me!" Dixon said,

"I just want to tell you that things between our kinds are always going to be sour, but something that affects the whole community is a serious issue." Sean said,

"And what do you mean by that?" I asked,

"My dad told me that his dad and the rest of Robotics R&D may be involved in a little 'Under the table' work for the military, something like that could lead to fighting and stealing." Sean said,

"My dad would never do anything like that... why do you lie about things like that?" Dixon snapped,

"Just saying what is true... from what we know it seems someone from the military is coming to see the progress made." Sean said,

"How do you know all this... shouldn't something like this be classified or something?" Vivian said,

"Yeah... but if you know where to look you can get anything." Sean said,

"Your dad is a hacker isn't he?" I said,

"Maybe... just letting you know Fox... your heads on this." Sean said.

He turned round and started walking off, the rest of his gang started to disperse. The three of us looked relieved and worried at the same time, it wasn't exactly something you hear everyday... more like something from a spy movie or something. We carried on feeling slightly concerned about what he had said I for one was very worried I didn't realise I was clutching Dixon's arm. After we reached my house Dixon said good bye and went home with Vivian, they still went to each other's house now and again like always but I wasn't bothered about that anymore. As I lay on my bed thoughts of the conversation with Sean went in and out of my head, if it was true something bad could happen.

Chapter Fifteen - Good News or Bad News?

Dixon

To say I wasn't a little worried about what Sean had said would be a complete lie... I was quite freaked... something my dad was working on would lead to trouble. I quietly thought to myself as Vivian and I walked up to the front door of my house. As we walked in my dad was talking to my mum and didn't hear us walk in, I motioned for Vivian to keep quiet so I could find out what they were talking about. It felt like I was a spy in some movie, eavesdropping on the bad guys.

"Once it gets finished it's going to make our lives all the more better." Dad said,

"There's more to life than money though dear... have you thought of the attention something like this could draw?" Mum said,

"I have... but its a totally hush hush kinda thing... only the Company Execs and our benefactors know of its existence." Dad said,

"I know this is the first project you've lead and understand that you're a little hyped, but you have to think that someone isn't playing ball." Mum said,

"I'm all for the responsibility of overseeing this through... but the Execs felt that they should make this a joint effort between me and Dr. Dekker." Dad said.

I decided I didn't want to hear anymore, just in case I heard something I would regret. I slowly opened the door and then pushed it closed. My dad looked over and saw us and smiled.

"Hey kids, have a nice day?" He asked,

"Not too bad." I replied,

"And how are you Viv?" he asked,

"Not too bad either... hows life treating ya Mr Dayne?" Vivian said,

"Pretty darn good in fact... tell you what son... there's a lot going on at work at the moment, but in a couple of weeks it'll be finished and me and your mum have decided to get away for a few weeks. How's that sound?" He said.

It sounded good and bad at the same time... but the bad bit was just my imagination, me thinking he was in a little dodgy dealings and needed to run from the law... kinda silly now I think about it. Going away for a while was something I have been waiting for... for well a long time.

"Sounds coolio." I grinned,

"Besides I think it's about time we spent some time with you for a change, I bet your gramps is sick of the sight of you." Dad joked,

"You know that isn't true kiddo." Gramps said,

"Please don't call me kiddo Grandpa." I said,

"Suits ya though." Gramps winked,

"But I'm not a kid anymore..." I started,

"Yes, we know... you and Miss Aurora, how are things these days? Are you married yet?" Dad asked,

"Nope... why you waiting for it?" I joked,

"Yep... can't wait for the day." Mum said pretending to cry,

"Mum... I'm fifteen... and you're talking about marriage!" I said,

"I know... it's nice to dream sometimes." Mum said,

"Kinda nice ring to it... Mr and Mrs Dayne." Vivian laughed,

"Not you too." I said,

"Sorry... caught up in all the talk." Vivian apologised,

"All conversations lately seem to be about me and Sil'ferr... it's kinda disturbing." I said.

Later that night it was the usual thing for us... apart from my Gramps was still up and watching a spy movie with us... I think the TV was trying to tell me something.

"You seem to have something on your mind kids." Gramps said,

"Kinda..." I said,

"What's up... you can tell your old gramps." Gramps asked,

"It's related to something we heard earlier today." Vivian said,

"We overheard a little of what Dad was saying about his project... and I'm a little concerned... if not worried." I said,

"I won't lie to you kids... the thing your dad is involved in is quite dangerous. I know more than I should..." Gramps started,

"I don't like where this is going..." Vivian said,

"Your dad is leading a team which is creating a new super weapon. They call it Project: XION... dunno why... but it sounds like a one of a kind with all sorts of new techno bits and bobs thingie majigger." Gramps said,

"A super weapon... permission to be a tad nervous?" I said,

"Sure... I would be, with something like this you can guarantee someone's gonna get greedy and want it. And someone with a lot of money and a slight hint of this will want to at least try and go for it." Gramps said,

"I wonder what it looks like?" Vivian wondered out loud,

"I managed to see a glimpse of a technical drawing showing the chassis... it looks pretty cool for a techno gizmo." Gramps said,

"Well that inspires me with confidence." I said gulping hard afterwards,

"Come on kids... I'm sure nothing bads gonna happen, this is real life... not a spy movie. I'm sure the strictest precautions have been taken to ensure its secrecy... we know cos your dad messed up at home... but at heart he won't say a word." Gramps said.

"I hope so." I thought as we carried on watching the film.

Non-Specific

"Working late again Dr Dekker?" a technician asked,

"Afraid so... we have a deadline now. Two weeks left to iron out the flaws in the input data." Dekker said,

"Well, if anyone can do it it's you and Dr Dayne. I'm going home." The technician said as he started to leave.

He started to type something onto the computer as his cell phone started ringing, he glanced over, cursed and answered it.

"Dekker... yes... ahead as planned... all data is complete and a copy is in place to extend the deadline... early... yes sir... I'll be gone in the morning." Dekker said.

He hung up and put the phone down and wiped his brow, he seemed relieved and agitated at the same time, he started finishing the codes he was doing on the computer took one last gulp from his coffee mug and left.

Chapter Sixteen - So Wrong yet so Right?

Sil'ferr

It was the day of the winter themed dance, I could barely hold my excitement... I get to dance with him again... sorry... going off topic once again, that seems to be a habit for me... I can't help it... there I go, still doing it. Okay... The last day of school had just finished and everyone was screaming with joy as they headed home for the winter holiday, but for us and the other top formers the party was just starting, the dance started at eight so that gave us enough time to get ready for it. We all met up in the usual spot.

"Are we missing anyone?" Jennifer asked,

"Not unless you count Irvine's ego we're all set." Foxx joked,

"Mock me all you like..." Irvine said,

"Thanks... I will." Foxx grinned sarcastically,

"If your all done boys we have a certain something to get all dressed up for." Jennifer said,

"Why do girls take stuff like this so seriously?" Rico asked,

"You don't need to know that... it has to remain a mystery to you." Vivian said,

"And that it will... for many many years." Dixon said,

"We'll probably tell you someday squishy." I said grabbing his arm,

"Again with the squishy..." Irvine said,

"I think it's a cute name." Jennifer giggled,

"It doesn't suit him too much..." Vivian said,

"And why not?" Jennifer asked,

"Dixon ain't squishy... he's more..." Vivian began but stopped,

"More what?" Jennifer asked,

"More like... a marshmallow." Vivian said looking spaced out,

"A marshmallow?" Rico looked confused,

"Huh?" Vivian looked confused too,

"You called him a Marshmallow." I said,

"I did?" Vivian said,

"You called him a marshmallow." Jennifer giggled,

"I suggest we go now... before we find out why." Dixon suggested,

"Please..." Vivian said looking rather embarrassed.

We all headed off home to get ready to come back to school, it was the first time anyone would want to willingly go back into school after it had finished. On the way home we all split to go our different ways and it was just Me, Dixon and Vivian walking as usual, Dixon was gonna go with Vivian to her house... I'd seen she was looking a little down lately and asked him to go cheer her up. As we arrived by my house I waved as they carried onwards down the road, as I walked in I could hear my dad talking to someone else... it sounded business talk so I waited until I heard them finish and walked in.

"Hi dad." I said.

He said hi back and then carried on talking to his friend or co-worker, he looked like a grown up version of Dixon and I wondered if he was related. A couple of minutes later he was ready to leave and my dad spoke up.

"Oh yeah and this is my daughter Sil'ferr but then again you should know all about her." My dad said,

"Of course I do... Dixon always tells us about you these days." He said,

"Are you Dixon's dad?" I asked feeling stupid even asking,

"Yes I am and it's nice to finally meet you Sil'ferr, I see he isn't over exaggerating on how pretty you are." He smiled.

I blushed a bit.

"Anyway better be off... so Eight PM he'll be arriving." He said,

"Don't worry, I've got it covered." My dad said,

"I knew I could count on you... see you later. And you Sil'ferr." He said as he left.

Well now I know where Dixon got his good looks from...

"What was that about?" I asked,

"Just work stuff... got an important guy coming today and well you get the picture." Dad said,

"Yeah... anyways, I'm gonna get ready." I smiled as I went off.

Dixon

We'd been at Vivian's for a while, I was supposed to be here to try and cheer her up since she was feeling a little down... but she seemed fine to me. She wanted to show me what she was wearing to the dance, it felt like Jen's party all over again.

"Are you ready yet... the audience awaits with anticipation." I joked,

"Nope... give me a minute." She yelled from behind the door.

I leaned against the wall, I thought I was prepared for anything she would have... guess I was wrong.

"Okay... ready?" She asked,

"Yup... try me." I said.

As she walked out I wasn't ready for what I saw... I knew she was going to take this thing seriously but I was stunned at how seriously she was taking it. It's hard trying to imagine your friend as this seriously hot girl... but... wow.

"So what do you think?" She asked,

"Going to the ball Cinderella?" I replied,

"Maybe... what do you really think?" She asked again,

"Like... Wow!" I said finding it hard to find words,

"Do you really think so?" She said,

"I do... you look great." I said,

"Are you saying that as a friend... or do you really mean it?" She asked.

I knew where she was going with this... and I had to be truthfully honest.

"I mean it... as a friend..." I said,

"Oh..." She said almost disappointed,

"... and yet... also I mean it not as a friend... but as a warm blooded male individual... and in the words of our friend Irvy... you look hot." I said,

"You're just saying that." She said,

"I'm not 'just saying that' I mean it... if I was not able to control myself... I would probably dribble and then tackle you to the sofa and make passionate love to you." I joked,

The most disturbing thought is... I meant every word... I was a naughty boy, what was I thinking?

"I wish..." She smiled.

"You wish what?" I asked,

"I wish to make mad passionate love to you!" She grinned,

"Wha!?... huh... uh..." I gulped hard, "I was only kidding..."

Unlike... well everyone else... that was a thought that scared the hell out of me... I dunno why.

"So am I... well kinda... I mean I would love to... but we have a party to get ready for." She said.

I don't think there were words I would have liked to hear more than those last few... I can't explain it though... but a part of me felt... disappointed, my head was a mess, maybe it was the strange feeling in the atmosphere or maybe something else... but I couldn't take my eyes off her.

"Although..." She began,

"Although?" I said,

"We still have a few hours left... before it starts." She said,

"Which we should use to get ready... right?" I asked,

"Maybe..." She said.

She walked up to me and wrapped her arms around my waist and held me close to her. I couldn't help but gulp again.

"I'll never have another chance to hold you so close." She said.

It felt as if someone had turned the central heating up all the way... was it wrong to... well... fancy your best friend? Well in my case... yes it was... I loved Sil'ferr so what was this all about?

"So close... one last time." She said.

I don't know what I felt, but I did wrap my arms round her and gave her a 'passionate' hug. A moment later she looked at me with her sparkling eyes.

"I wish I had found the courage to tell you sooner... and right now... this would be magical." She said,

"It... It is magical." I said.

I couldn't help myself... I kissed her, a strange feeling it was, I knew it was wrong so why did it feel right? Maybe it was Vivian I was meant to be with... so why did I feel like I was meant to be with Sil'ferr, why was I so mixed up? We sat on the end of the bed still locked together as the clock beeped, deep down I felt bad about this... but I'm only human... well... you get the idea.
