Nicole raised her knuckles and knocked gently on the door of Rotor's hut.

"Hello? Rotor? Are you there?" The digital Lynx called as a clank and a series of thumps echoed from inside the hut.

It was a beautiful summer morning, just a shade over a month since Sin Mogul's defeat. All dates in Knothole were 'since Sonic defeated Sin Mogul' nowadays. Nicole's nose twitched at the irksome thought. It didn't look like the new date system was going to die any time soon, but Mogul had been a world changing event as well as a traumatic one Nicole mused. Perhaps it was unrealistic of her to expect it to leave no mark on her friends.

Certainly, most of Mogul's damage had been undone. The hologram looked around her at the almost-recovered Knothole. It had been revived from almost nothing in what must have been record time. Huts had been raised up and painted once more, the cratered land had been made level again, villagers were at work reviving the distant fields and everyone she laid eyes on seemed either to be healthy or recovering from their injuries. Who was she to ask for more from people who managed that?

The door opened. "Oh! N-Nicole!" Rotor said, holding the door wide for her. "C'mon in! Is it time for another diagnostic already?"

"Thank you." Nicole smiled widely as Roter ushered her in.

"Sorry, I lost track of time." He appologised. "I'm just... searching for something..."

The lynx was no stranger to Rotor's home knew exactly which door the walrus' problem probably lay behind. She padded over to the entrance of his workshop with her usual graceful precision, and glanced through.

"What's missing?" She asked.

"I can't find my static flux coil..." Rotor grumbled the bags under his eyes betraying how long he had spent looking for it. "I know I had one, but only the creator knows where it is now!"

"Scanning..." Nicole intoned. "It's in bin 7, near the top left."

Rotor chucked and shuffled over to the bins. "Well, I'll be. Thanks Nicole! I forgot you could do that." He dipped his arm into the bin and search around in the mess of components.

"A little to the left. Up a bit... there!" Nicole guided him.

"Got it!" He beamed triumphantly. "Thanks Nicole. It would've taken me ages to find that on my own."

He tossed the wayward component on the den couch and ambled back over to collapse next to it. He yawned heavily and smacked his lips. Nicole cocked her head as she looked her friend over.

"My scanners detect... I mean... You seem tired." Nicole corrected herself mid sentence.

Rotor shook his head. "You don't need to do that around me, Nicole. You're already real to me. No need to pretend you're something you aren't."

"I know that Rotor," Nicole said sitting down beside him and putting a paw on his shoulder for understanding, "but I'm not pretending, or at least I don't want to pretend. I want to fit in with everyone at Knothole."

"Nicole..." Rotor laughed. "This village has been involved with time-travel, aliens, alternate dimensions, slavers, succubi, zombie computer viruses, and any number of other weird events. A holographic lynx is honestly one of the most mundane things we've seen in recent years. You fit in fine."

The cyber-lynx chuckled weakly then sighed heavily. "I feel like I'm trapped between being a person and being just a program running on Sally's datapad."

She rubbed her face as organised her thoughts; a gesture borrowed from watching her 'owner'. She didn't think of the datapad as Sally's any more though she had done for years after her activation. Now it was her. Her body. Not a tool in which she resided, but the body that sustained her conciousness.

Nicole stopped the train of thought. Along with the sense of self, had come a sense of self-worth and then came the anger. Anger at being treated as a mere possession instead of a person. Of course the anger was without a target. Sally had done nothing wrong. For years Nicole \empth {had} been a 'mere possession' and as soon as that had changed so did Sally's treatment towards her.

"It is hard to describe exactly what it is like." She sighed again as words failed her.

"I can imagine." Rotor nodded. "Unable to move, unable to see, smell, or feel. Only able to hear and use your sensors to detect the world around you. After the freedom of having a body and senses, I can imagine it's almost unbearable to be so constrained."

Nicole blinked in surprise and Rotor smiled sympathetically.

"Yes, that's almost exactly it." Nicole was shocked that he understood. "It's hard to return to... that. Yesterday I ran my power down to five percent." She confessed guiltily. Rotor's eyes widened slightly. "I just wanted a few more minutes in this form."

Rotor looked concerned. "I know it's hard, but until we develop a way to allow you to stay in holographic form indefinitely, you're gonna have to limit yourself to three hours per charge tops." He looked guilty as he laid out the facts to the Lynx once more. "I know that's kinda harsh-"

Nicole shook her head. It was so typical of the kind walrus to feel bad about delivering unpleasant truths even when they weren't his fault.

"It's is not harsh. It's a simple fact, Rotor. I wish I had more time to explore this form. It's... exciting... fun." There was a pause before each descriptor as Nicole assessed if it fit.

"I'm glad for you Nicole." Rotor said kindly and Nicole believed him.

He picked up her datapad and popped one of her panels open; making a first visual check to spot anything obviously wrong.

"I never realised how intense... everything could be." Nicole continued delighted to share her discoveries. Her eagerness to explore the world she had just been introduced to was not entirely unlike that of a young Möbian. "Take the sense of taste. I ate a chilli dog earlier today, on Sonic's suggestion. It was amazing. Spicy was just a word until my tongue started to tingle almost painfully but it was... pleasurable."

"I'm not a big fan of chilli dogs myself. They don't exactly agree with my digestive system," Rotor admitted as he picked up a few delicate tools and examined one of Nicole's circuits, "but there must be something to them. They're practically Knothole's official dish." He chuckled and looked up from the circuit. "Okay, I'm gonna start poking and prodding at a few things. Just tell me what you feel."

"Okay Rotor." Nicole said in a manner that showed just how used to this process she was.

Rotor pressed one of the tools to a particular place on the circuit board. Unbidden, Nicole's right arm suddenly shot up into the air. Despite her arm moving on its own, the lynx seemed less than surprised by this.

"Motor control seems fine. How's Sally doing?" Rotor asked as he peered at her innards.

"Sally's doing all right. Still having nightmares about the... Mogul thing." Nicole said not going into any great detail.

Rotor was a good friend of Sally's and he only asked out of concern for her, but those were some of Sally's most intimate secrets. If she wanted to share her fears with Rotor then she would. It wasn't her place to make that decision for the princess.

"Yeah." Rotor nodded as he poked at another circuit, and checked the results on the datapad's screen. "I'm still creeped out by everything I did... or at least everything I remember doing. Can't blame Sally for still being freaked out. I think we all are."

"I can't see Rotor." Nicole said looking around blankly. It was a statement of fact, not concern. She was comfortable trusting Rotor. "I'm trying to help Sally through this, but Sonic is helping her far more than I could."

"Oh, sorry." Rotor flicked something. "Better?"

"Much." Nicole nodded as her vision returned.

"Hey, if it wasn't for you then Sonic wouldn't have stood a chance against Sin Mogul... and we would all still be under his power." Rotor looked sick at the thought. He prodded another trace. "Visual systems seem to be working fine. How about this?"

"..." Nicole opened her mouth to speak, but there was no sound. She frowned a little and made a hand shaking gesture at her throat.

"Your voice?" Rotor asked; letting go of the line as Nicole nodded in affirmation.

"Y-Yes, the clock line for my vocal processor." Nicole stammered a little as the chip reset.

Rotor frowned at the datapad as something anomalous caught his attentio. "Hey... What is this?" He tapped another trace.

Nicole gave a yelp of surprise as her outline went fuzzy and blurry. Her purple wrapped toga suddenly seemed to phase out of existence, leaving her completely nude. Nicole's form rezed back up and she gasped, giving a soft moan. Rotor's eyes went wide and his cheeks turned bright red.

"Wh-What was that?!" Rotor yelped as he looked down at the datapad to try and figure out exactly what he had done. Nicole blushed as she quickly covered her breasts with her forearm and her pelvis with her paw.

"I... b-believe you found some extra... d-data in my HRAM that I a-added after our last d-diagnostic, so that I c-could explore m-my sexual abilities..." Nicole stammered, "and I b-believe I have just d-discovered a new e-emotion... embarrassment."

"Ummmm, l-lemme see if I-I can change you back..." Rotor swallowed and leaned down, but the nude lynx shook her head before he could prod at her holo projector again.

"No. It's okay. It's... actually something I wished to discuss with you, Rotor." the lynx said seriously, shaking her head. Rotor turned in his chair to look at her. He was still blushing furiously. Nicole ran a hand through her long black hair and sighed.

"When I was first activated, I was sentient, but only just barely so. I had no real sense of self. I always had the capability, the potential to... feel, to desire, but that was something I never used." Nicole chuckled faintly. "Why would I? I had no desire to desire. When Sally and I switched bodies for those few minutes two years ago I experienced desire for the first time."

"I couldn't have helped it. Organic brains aren't made to switch off emotions. I had desires... complex emotions... I was truly aware for the first time." Nicole explained slowly and carefully. Rotor nodded as he tried to follow.

"You developed a soul Nicole." Rotor stated gently.

The lynx smiled a little. "What was transferred back was not what was transferred over. I don't know about souls, but I cared about me. For the first time I had an opinion about myself. A preference whether I lived or died, and from that came the understanding of why life is valuable. I started to care about people around me." Nicole blushed. "I used to work to save you because that was what I was for. Now I do it because you matter to me."

"I... I don't know what to say Nicole." Rotor confessed to the-computer-who-had-learnt-to-love.

"That is what spurred me to create this form." Nicole concluded. "To understand you all better, and to share in your world, but something was missing. My holographic form was incomplete. I could feel things: hot, cold, hard, soft, but I could not take any emotional response from it. I had no sense of taste or smell."

"Until the upgrade." Rotor nodded in understanding.

"Yes Rotor. Thank you." The still-bare hologram said sincerely. "Ever since then, I have been working to explore my new self. Discovering everything I am capable of and everything I can feel, but there is one thing that I have always wanted to experience... a relationship."

"...Are you asking me... to be in a relationship with you?" Rotor asked for clarification; worried he was being presumptuous, but not seeing any other way to take Nicole's words.

"I understand if you do not want to. It would be-" Nicole said in anticipation of rejection

"Fine." Rotor cut her off in mid-sentence. He put his hand on her shoulder. "It would be fine. I would really like that Nicole."

Nicole was surprised, her big green eyes going wide and her eyebrows raising. She ran a quick self-diagnostic on her speech recognition system to make sure she heard him correctly. Fears of acting on a misheard answer made her simulated heart beat faster. "Y-You would?"

"Yes, I would like it very much, Nicole." The walrus forced himself to look at Nicole's beautiful form. His cheeks were flushed. "I've always been fond of you, and we've known each other since..." Rotor smiled, "since I was a kid trying to work out how to write modules for you, remember that?"

Nicole chuckled. "You didn't know the difference between a thunk and a section."

"It's been amazing to watch you grow as a person; learning about who you are." He said honestly. " I'm honoured that you would want me to take the next step with you."

Nicole leaned forward slowly and kissed Rotor. His eyes went wide for a moment but then he yielded to the kiss. He slipped his hands over her shoulders and downwards onto her upper back. He was careful not to go against the grain of her fur. Nicole had no such problems running her paws over his smooth skin.

It was only with that touch that he realised she was no longer covering her self up, and that the breasts pressed against him were, in fact, pressed up against him. He felt Nicole undo his sash.

"mmgh Nicole..." Rotor mumbled around a mouthful of (very realistic) tongue. "Are you gmph sure you-"

Nicole kissed him again, and his heavy belt fell to the floor. Rotor was sweet to ask, but she wanted this as much as he did. Rotor got the message. His hands drifted down the Lynx's back to the perfect globes of her rear.

Nicole reached down. He was already stiff inside his internal sheath, and his head poked free slightly. She smiled and massaged it gently. Her touch letting her know just how massive the organ beneath Rotor's skin was, as she rubbed it to full hardness.

Rotor moaned into their kiss and let one of his meaty paws slip between her legs; seeking out her flower and entering it with one of his thick fingers. His other arm wrapped around Nicole's shoulders.

The walrus pulled her firmly against him. He didn't check his strength. He of all people knew exactly how resilient Nicole's holographic form was. He squeezed her body tight against his own, and she responded in kind. They feel back onto the couch. Rotor beneath, and Nicole on top.

The lovers moaned and squirmed against each other. Rotor's wetness coating their bellies. He could feel the dampness of Nicole's sex, but unlike his her juices were entirely virtual. They could only be felt. They ceased to be simulated once they left her body, but before that they felt real.

Rotor's maleness was caught between them. Thick and long enough to almost touch her breasts, it pressed into Nicole's belly. She squirmed against it. The juices that were ground into her fur were quite real and very sticky.

Nicole gasped and arched her back slightly as Rotor found her clit. He rubbed at the nubbin as he pushed his finger deep inside her, and traced the outside of her lips as he withdrew.

He looked up in surprise as Nicole broke the kiss and pushed away from him. Immediately he stopped fingering her and pulled out-worried that he had done something wrong. He looked up at Nicole, about to ask what was wrong, but words weren't necessary between them. The lynx reached back to position his cock at her entrance.

Rotor moaned as his sizeable maleness kissed her folds. Slowly they entered into the reverse cowgirl position. Nicole was leading their sex and Rotor, flushed with heat and pleasure let her set the pace.

The difference in their bodies was striking. Nicole was the perfect, idealised image of a feline. Her petite, hourglass body was coated in fur. The only fat on her trim form was the healthy looking curve of her belly leading down to her mons.

Rotor by contrast was large. It was unfair to call him ugly. His shape was typical for his species, but few could find a walrus' lumpy deposits of blubber attractive. He was big and he was powerful, but it was a lumbering, slow kind of power.

Yet, somehow the two looked matched. Even with the size difference the way Nicole's body stretched to accept Rotor's girth looked natural.

Their bodies moved. Each awkward in their own way-Nicole was too mechanical, Rotor's movements were too eager-but slowly they found each other's pace and rhythm.

Nicole moaned out as she learnt the feelings and reasons behind the acts she had so much data about. She was pleased to hear Rotor's answering moan as her pleasure rippled through him.

She held on tight to her lover's shoulders as she moved atop him. Rotor's paws ran over her front, through the wet and sticky fur. He messed her fur up. He smoothed it down. Nicole revelled in the sensations; the feeling of discord that came from her fur being brushed the wrong way; the soothing feeling as he put it right; and all the while the feeling of his massive length moving inside her.

Their hands explored and felt; searching for all the spots that gave each of them pleasure, and simply enjoying the feel of their bodies; of each other; of their presence; of their union; their heat; of them.

She climaxed. It was both the most wonderful thing Nicole had ever experienced and, simultaneously, one of the most natural. Her legs squeezed into Rotor's hips as pleasure swept through her body. Her whole form was tense for a few long seconds.

Those seconds, when the pressure of their bodies was greatest and as Nicole called out in ecstasy, were all it took to push Rotor over the edge. He arched his hips up, and the hologramatical girl could actually feel his cum flood her canal.

The volume surprised her. His balls didn't look that big, but he was filling her and there was enough of it. The cum filled every nook of her simulated femininity, and still more filled her. The pressure built up under her abdomen actually made it a little harder for her to breath. She panted as the fluid forced out around their sexes tickled at her inner walls pleasantly.

She flopped down onto Rotor, who wrapped his arms about her gently this time. They lay there enjoying the afterglow of their love making, as Rotor's cum slowly covered their hips and thighs. ? ? ?

Afterwards, it was an exhausted Nicole who lay atop a spent Rotor.

"So do you want to 'go out' Tuesday?" Nicole asked as her physical program decided it was time for her to regain a little strength.

"We kinda got that entirely backwards." Rotor pointed out chuckling. "Sex before the first date, and a heart to heart before that... Sure I'd love to go out with you."

Nicole kissed him.

It was then that she noticed the flow of Knotholers moving towards the bridge at one end of the village. She looked down at Rotor and saw that he had noticed at roughly the same time as she had.

"It could be important." She said unnecessarily as she slipped off of him.

"Yeah." Rotor agreed. He pulled on his belt and wiped down his front as he headed to the door. He grabbed Nicole's datapad on the way and snapped the panel its back shut.

Nicole executed the appropriate subroutine to return her image to its more-typical, modest state, and joined Rotor at the door.

The two jogged wordlessly to the bridge. This was one of the meeting places for Knothole in times of emergency. The main alarm bell was here. Other times it was a gathering place for celebration and socialising.

The bell hadn't been rung yet. That was probably a good thing Nicole decided. It meant that whatever was going on, if anything, it wasn't severe enough to call in the workers in the fields and the cubs in the forest.

Still, when you saw people heading for the bridge you followed. Back when she had been 'just' a computer, Nicole had considered the tactic a sensible one. It promoted the survival of the individual and, by extension, of the group. Now Nicole understood there was another dimension to the tactic; a motivating force. Fear, or at least the milder versions of it; unease and trepidation.

As they approached the bridge they saw a crowd had gathered on the bank. Sally, Bunny and Antoine stood at the foot of the bridge facing the crowd. Those nearest the front seemed unconcerned, and Nicole took a little comfort from that.

'How crazy is it that I can't relax in a crowd of smiling friends?' Nicole wondered wryly as she tried to force herself to relax. 'Living in Knothole makes you far too jumpy-we have to question everything we see far too often.'

"My friends and fellows." Ant called out to the assembled villagers. "I vish to be making an announcement to you, here today, in occurrence vif ze ancient customs of our peoples."

He paused for a second to make sure he had everyone's attention. There was silence, save for the sound of the water and the forest.

Nicole saw what was coming before everyone else. It was unusual, especially since Robotnik's take over of Möbius and the collapse of law that followed it, but both Bunny and especially Antoine were traditionalists. It made sense that they would invoke the antiquated village rites, and given the way they kept making eyes at each other, the way their hearts were racing, the fact that their hands were entwined...

"Mon amour, Bunny and I solemnly vish, before our village and möbius, to declare... no..." He turned to the blushing cyber-doe and smiled before starting over without the overly-rigid formality. "It is being my very great honour to announce to you that ma chere et tendre, Bunny et moi are engaged to be married."

Rotor gasped, then applauded. Around them the crowd went wild with claps and cheers for the happy couple.
