(First off, yes, I play Yu-Gi-Oh. My main avatar's freaking based off of it. Get over it. Second, this story will have nothing to do with any of my avatars. Those take time. Especially since I haven't had any good rps lately. Don't worry, there will be more. Patience. Third, I should warn you, this story is relatively close to a 4kids dub, so this stuff might be a little cheesy. Fourth, I didn't really try to think of the scenarios and back-stories so... yeah. Just know that there is one very long back-story. Fifth, since this story is long and I don't want to make it into parts; this will be more of a book. Just see it as not having to wait for me to upload separate parts. And one final thing, there will be one yiff scene but that's VERY far into the story. Well, enjoy. [Or despise in some cases])

CH 1

"I now activate Armed Dragon LV 5's effect!" I shouted at my opponent, who was trembling in fear. "By discarding Spear Dragon from my hand to the graveyard, I can destroy your Marshmallon!" As I discarded my card to the graveyard, I watched with a smile as my opponent's last line of defense shattered into a million pieces. His life point counter was at 3600, while mine was still at a decent 5200. I was gonna win for sure.

Ok, I thought to myself, I got rid of his monster. I could attack directly with both of my monsters, but then there's that facedown... I looked at the face down card in front of my opponent, then back at my two monsters; Armed Dragon LV 5, and Flying Kamakiri #1, both standing there, awaiting my orders. If I attack, that face down might end up screwing me over, unless...

"I activate a spell card, Stamping Destruction!!!" I said as I slid my card into the spell/trap card slot of my duel disk. An enlarged image of the card flashed in front of the two of us. "I can only activate this card when I control a Dragon-type card on my side of the field. When activated, I can destroy any spell or trap card on the field, and inflict 500 life points of damage to the controller of that card. So I destroy your face down!"

Again, I watched as his card shattered and vanished, and my opponent's life point counter dropped from 3600 to 3200. "And now that that's out of the way, I'll have both my monsters attack directly!" With that, both my dragon, and giant insect went in for the kill, sending my opponent's life points from 3200, straight down to zero for game.

"AND IT'S OVER!" the announcer shouted, "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THIS YEAR'S NATIONAL CHAMPION, TOBIO RAO!!!!" The crowd exploded, cheering and screaming my name, over and over again.

"TO-BI-O! TO-BI-O! TO-BI-O! TO-BI-O!"

"Yeah! That's right! Who's bad? I'm bad! I'm the best there is!" The crowd continued to cheer, chanting my name.

"TO-BI-O! TO-BI-O! TO-BI-O! TO-BI-O!"

"TOBIO!" a loud voice shouted rather loudly, which was strange because it sounded so close and there wasn't anyone around me at the time.

"TOBIO!" the voice shouted again, and this time I felt my shoulder being shaken. It was only after that I found out what that was, that is, after I woke up from my nap... I slowly opened my eyes and raised my head off the desk, covered in some of my drool. I rubbed my eyes, yawned, and looked up to see my history teacher staring me in the face.

"Tobio," he said, "would you mind telling the class what NATO stands for?" I looked back to see my classmates, some of them giggling and chuckling. My cheeks turned bright red from the embarrassment. "Well Tobi?" he continued, "I'm waiting."

"Uhhh...." I said, trying to think, though I was having trouble due to the fact I was still half asleep. "NATO stands for.... National ... Association.... Trading Objects?" My classmates just exploded into laughter after hearing my response. My teacher quickly hushed them.

"Wrong," he said harshly, "it stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and you would have known that if you had paid attention instead of falling asleep in the middle of my class."

"Sorry sir!" I said, shrinking back in my seat. "Won't happen again!" After giving me the evil eye, my teacher continued his lecture. I looked up at the clock. Thankfully, there were only a few minutes in class left, so I didn't have to worry about sleeping in class again, well, at least for today...

After the bell rang and the teacher dismissed the class, I headed over to my dorm room. What I hated the most about my sixth period class was it was so far away from it. The other thing I hated, this school's name is "Duel Academy," and yet they still teach you history. But at this point, I didn't really care. When I arrived at my dorm, I punched in my combination on the door and waited for it to unlock. When I finally heard the click, I opened the door and headed inside. I closed the door behind me and dropped my book bag on the floor. I tossed my Slifer red jacket on my bed as I passed it, and walked up to the bathroom mirror. I washed my face, and dried it with a towel. Then I looked at the mirror.

I stared at my reflection. I was around the age of fourteen. I had sort of a brownish shade of skin. I was growing a bit of facial hair just above the upper lip. Looking past my glasses, I had dark brown eyes, and had relatively short hair with the same color. I let out a short sigh.

"That was rather embarrassing." I jumped a bit, then looked over to my right to see, standing in front of me, an anthro dragon. He was around 5'9"; he had orange-red outer scales, and black inner scales. On the sides of his face were two silver horns that came out at sort of a 90-degree angle. He was rather muscular, and had yellow eyes with no pupil, and, embedded on his forehead, was an emerald. He had his arms and wings folded and was leaning against the wall.

"Leyvaten," I said in reply, "how many times do I have to tell you to warn me before you appear like that?"

"I was next to you the entire time." Leyvaten replied, blinking once.

"You were? Well, remember, I'm still half awake right now. I still don't get why I'm so tired though."

"You stayed up half the night working on your deck remember?" Leyvaten said, gesturing to the mess of cards on my desk.

"That explains why I dreamt of being in a national tournament." I replied. Leyvaten smirked a bit, and walked out of the bathroom. I watched as my friend go.

Now, not a lot of people on campus have "anthros" as friends. It's not a racist type of thing, it's just, people still aren't used them yet. It was only a few years ago that Duel Academy started letting anthros in. I only know a few people that have anthro friends. Some kids were lucky enough to have Digimon as friends, while the rest chose not to be around them. But Leyvaten and me were different. Why you may ask? Cause Leyvaten doesn't actually "go" to school; he's actually a duel spirit. He's sort of special for his kind of spirit though. When he's not in a duel, he takes on the form of an anthro, but in battle, his form becomes that of a sword carrying, four winged, 10' dragon. Strangely enough, when he appears in any place other than a duel, I'm the only one that can see him.

"So how exactly did you modify your deck anyway?" Leyvaten asked, looking intently at the stack of cards.

"Just threw in some more traps, took out the slow cards, and added in another Dragunity Arma Mystletainn."

"That took you all night?" Leyvaten said, raising an eye ridge.

"Well, I had to come up with some strategies and- wait a sec, you were there weren't you?"

"Yeah."

"So why are you asking me something you should already know?" I asked, confusion apparent on my face.

"Just cause I was there doesn't mean I paid attention, much like someone I know." Leyvaten said, smirking again.

"Oh shut up." I said, smiling. Leyvaten looked back at the pile of cards on my desk. I sat down and picked up my deck, looking through it one more time. I wasn't the "best" duelist on campus, but I wasn't the worst either. Actually, I'm pretty good for my Slifer red rank, though my Dragunity deck wasn't so great. It was missing all of the synchros, and had a high dead draw risk. Which was why I was thankful I had Leyvaten in my deck. Every time I needed his help, he was always my next draw. I guess it has something to do with being a duel spirit. But now that I think about it, the entire deck started with him. Actually, I started to get into the game itself the day I got Leyvaten.

***

It was on a Saturday, about 5 years ago, before the hologram system came to be, and the economy was still in bad shape. My dad had taken me to a swap meet, and left me to browse. I came across this one stand, filled with a bunch of cool stuff. It had Gundam model sets, some games, and of course, Yu-Gi-Oh cards. At the time, I wasn't really into the game. I knew how to play though, I tried it once, though I was only four at the time and the rules confused me so much that I just didn't want to play. Anyway, I was looking through the singles when Leyvaten caught my eye. I wasn't into the game, but the monsters still looked cool to me, especially the dragons.

The stand manager noticed me and walked over to me. "See anything you like?"

"Well, how much for this card?" I said, pointing to Leyvaten.

"That one? Thirty bucks." My mouth hung open hearing this. "Ha, I'm just kidding. One dollar." I let out a sigh of relief and reached into my pocket to grab my wallet. "You know kid," he said as I opened my wallet, "you could get that card in the structure deck."

"I know," I replied as I handed him the dollar, "but I don't play."

"Collecting?"

"Yeah, I guess." I lied. The guy shrugged and handed me the card.

"You know, " he said, "you've picked a very special card."

"Really," I said, raising an eyebrow, "how so?"

"Well, some people say this card's enchanted."

"Uh-huh" I said nonchalantly, lowering my eyelids half way.

"No really." He said, trying to convince me. "You see, this card is believed to have come from ancient Rome. In fact, all of the Dragunity cards originated from Rome. It's said that each and every one of them were hand drawn by an unknown artist on papyrus enchanted by the Dragunities themselves. When they were finished, the artist scattered them across Rome. Supposedly, the souls of the Dragunities would appear before those who were worthy, and over the course of a few years, one of the Dragunities believed it found someone worthy and showed itself. That Dragunity was Leyvaten."

I looked at the card in my hand, and it seemed to glimmer. I looked back at the stand manager and waited for him to continue his story.

"However," he continued, "the young man was so afraid of Leyvaten's appearance, that he ran off and called for help. He got a crowd of people to follow him to where Leyvaten had appeared, but by the time he got there, Leyvaten had went back into his papyrus in grief. He was never seen again. Days past, and the young man decided to hide Leyvaten's papyrus away, afraid of what might happen if he destroyed it. Several thousand years later, archeologists discovered some of the Dragunities, including Leyvaten, but the rest were lost in time forever. Today, some of them have been replicated in Yu-Gi-Oh cards. But, rumor has it that some of the cards were printed using a piece of the papyrus from the Dragunities drawings. The card you're holding is one of them."

"Wow," I said, "but wait, if what you say is true, then why are you selling me this for so little?"

"Meh, I don't believe in the story, I just like to tell it. And besides, that's how much I got the card for on Ebay."

"Oh."

"But who knows? Maybe someday, Leyvaten will appear before you." He said, patting me on the shoulder.

"Right," I said sarcastically, "well thanks for the card anyway." He nodded in response, and walked over to another customer. I looked at the card again, and my cell phone rang. I carefully slid the card into my wallet and answered.

"Hey Tobi," my dad said on the other line, "time to go."

"Okay." I said. He hung up, and I met him at the car. When I got there, my dad unlocked the door and I got in.

"So," he said as I buckled in, "find anything good?"

"Well," I said, pulling out my wallet and taking out Leyvaten, "I did get this."

"Really?" my dad said, "can I see?" I nodded and handed him the card. "Yu-Gi-Oh? But I thought you didn't like that game."

"I don't, I just like that card." My dad just shrugged, handed back the card, and started the car.

When we got home I immediately headed to my room and plopped on my bed. I let out a sigh and just lied there for a few minutes. Then I realized; I never even read what Leyvaten did, not that I cared of course, but with nothing else to do, I figured I might as well read the card. I sat up and pulled out my wallet again. I pulled out Leyvaten, and pocketed my wallet. I looked down at the text box and read to myself;

You can Special Summon this card from your hand or your Graveyard by removing from play 1 face-up monster you control equipped with a "Dragunity" card(s). When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can select 1 Dragon-Type monster in your Graveyard, except "Dragunity Arma Leyvaten", and equip it to this card. When this card is sent to the Graveyard by your opponent's card effect, you can select 1 of the monsters that were equipped to this card when it was sent to the Graveyard, and Special Summon that monster from the Graveyard.

Wow, I thought to myself, pretty complicated for just one card. I shrugged my thought aside and placed Leyvaten on the counter beside my bed. Then all of a sudden, my stomach growled. I realized I hadn't even had dinner.

"Hey mom." I called, "when's dinner?"

"Why? You hungry sweetie?" She called back from the living room.

"Yeah, kinda."

"Okay, just give me a minute and I'll prepare dinner."

"Thanks mom." I said.

"You're welcome sweetie." she replied.

After eating dinner, and a few minutes of TV, I brushed my teeth, changed into my pajamas and climbed into bed. Then I looked over to Leyvaten's card, sitting on my counter. I picked it up to look at it one more time. My mind then flashed back to what the salesman had said to me. Dragunities would appear before those who were worthy...

"Hmph, yeah right." I said to myself. I placed the card back on the counter next to my glasses, turned off the light, and laid down to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, I saw a note on my counter. It was in my mom's handwriting. It said:

Dear Tobio,

I went to the grocery store to pick up some things and your dad went to work. I'll be gone for a few minutes.

Love,

Mom

I tossed the note aside, put on my glasses, changed out of my pajamas (since it felt so weird for me to be wearing them anywhere else but in bed), and headed to the kitchen. I got to the fridge, grabbed some waffles, and closed the fridge. When I turned to put the waffles in the toaster, I froze, dropping my waffles on the floor. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I- yeah you should already know by now what I mean. Standing at the window was none other than, you guessed it, Leyvaten. He was just looking out the window, watching my backyard I guess.

Holy crap, I thought to myself, the guy didn't make that up! I was just about to dash to the phone and call for help, but then I remembered the story the salesman had told me. What he said about Leyvaten going back into the papyrus. How he was so crushed to never come out again. I couldn't bring myself to make him go through that again, so I just stood there, with my mouth hanging open. It took a while for him to notice me standing there. I guess he was just more used to the noise. He turned to my direction, seeing me standing there. He blinked once, looking back at me in confusion. A few seconds later, his eyes widened, realizing that I could see him.

"H...hello?" he said nervously.

"Uhhh...." Was all I was able to get out. I realized my mouth was still hanging open so I closed it, shaking my head a bit. "Um, hi." I finally managed to say. We both just stared at each other for a moment, unsure of what to say.

"So... you're not afraid of me?" Leyvaten said, breaking the silence.

"Of course I am." I replied.

"So why don't you run?" Leyvaten said, raising an eye ridge.

"Cuz that'd be kind of mean don't you thing?" I said, smiling.

He chuckled a bit. "I guess you're right." He said, smiling back. I picked up the waffles off the floor and tossed them in the trash. I went over to sit across from where Leyvaten was, thinking to myself, Eh, I can skip breakfast, even if it is "the most important meal of the day." As I sat down, we both eyed each other carefully. NOT IN A PERVY WAY! I was nine, remember that... Anyway, we talked, the both of us learning about each other's past. I learned that the salesman's story was true, but he didn't intentionally reveal himself to that kid in the story, rather he saw him. Later I would learn that only certain kinds of people could see spirits like him. Over the years, we became very good friends, each of us learning about each other more and more. Then, for some reason, I started to get more Dragunity cards. I guess I wanted to try and get more of those "special" cards. I don't know, it's all a distant memory for me. Either way, I never found any others, and I ended up with a full deck. So, I figured I might as well start playing, which I did. Then, Duel Academy was made. My parents had noticed I had started playing, so they signed me up, not that I minded, in fact, I actually wanted to go. I had finally gotten into the game. From then on, I found out about every thing else I had told you from before. I think that's about it.

***

A ring from my cell phone snapped me out of my thoughts. I placed my deck back on the desk, took my phone out of my pocket, and answered it.

"Hello?" I said.

"Tobio? That you?" It was my friend Marvin, a Slifer red like me.

"Yeah it's me. What's up?"

"Oh, nothing much, got some new cards, won some duels, and, let's see what else, oh yeah, MELISSA WANTS TO SEE YOU!!!" I almost fell out of my chair as he said that, mostly cause he almost blew my ears out in the process. Melissa was a Ra yellow anthro snow leopard. If we were 18 at the time, trust me, I'd be a hell of a lot more excited about this, trust me, the girl is very sexy, but at the time I wasn't all that into girls yet. Of course I liked "looking," but I didn't want any relationships yet.

"Okay..." I said, letting my ears recover from the sound blast I just had. "Well, what does she want?"

"I don't know, but you better get your ass over here soon, she says she doesn't want be kept waiting.

"Where do I meet her?"

"Near the cafeteria, and HURRY!"

"Okay. Jeez dude, don't worry I'll be there." I said as I hung up.

"So what's going on?" Leyvaten asked.

"Melissa wants me to see her for something." I said, getting up and picking up my deck and the bag containing my duel disk, swinging it over my shoulder.

"Maybe she wants to duel?"

I raised my deck up to my face. "Why do you think I'm bringing this?" You know, sometimes I wished I had thought of relationships at the time... Ah well, what's done is done.

***

When I finally did arrive, Melissa was wearing her duel disk, having a conversation with her friends. I looked a bit more to the right to see Marvin slamming his head on a nearby table. I could understand why. Most chicks here only wanted to duel, which now that I think about it, was pretty stupid. Again, can't do anything about it.

Melissa noticed my arrival and stood up. "So you came."

"Of course I came." I said, about a few yards way from her. She raised her hand in the air, signaling me to stop. My thoughts were confirmed... I placed my bag on the floor, beginning to unzip it and take out my duel disk. Once it was out, I strapped it onto my arm.

"You know why I wanted to see you, right?" She said, taking her deck out of her pocket and sliding it into the appropriate slot of her disk.

"If I didn't then, I would definitely know now." I said as I took my deck out of my pocket and did the same. "But I gotta ask you. Why me? You know I'm just a Slifer red."

"Because," she said, activating her disk, "I've heard about you. People say you're pretty good for your ranking. I wanna see how you fare against me."

"Alright then," I said, activating my disk, "ready?"

"Ready."

"Then let's duel!" We drew our five starting cards, the life point counters on our duel disks displayed 8000, and the game started.

(Ghetto way to start, I know, but oh well. Anyway, just a suggestion. You might wanna play some background music during this part of the story. But that's just me. I always like to add background music to stuff I read. Me, I'd play this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ltSmsaExhY&feature=related even though it might be shorter than the duel and might end early.)

"Ladies first! I draw!" She shouted, drawing her first card. She looked over her hand for a bit and picked out her first card. "I summon out to the field, Machina Gearframe to the field!" She placed its card onto the disk's plate, and Gearframe's hologram appeared before us. Another hologram showed up. It was a frame displaying Gearframe's stats.

"I now activate its effect! When I normal summon this card, I can add any Machina monster from my deck to my hand!" She then took her deck out of its slot and pulled out the card she was looking for. "I'm selecting Machina Fortress to add to my hand!" she said, showing me the card. She then added it to her hand. "Next, by discarding Machina Force from my hand, I'm now allowed to special summon the Machina Fortress I added to my hand!" She slid Machina Force's card in the graveyard slot and placed Fortress' card onto her disk's plate and Fortress came out.

"I now activate Gearframe's second effect!" Melissa shouted. "Once per turn, I can equip it to any Machine type monster on my side of the field! And I'm equipping it to Fortress!" At that, Gearframe folded itself up and propped itself up onto Fortress. "I'll set a card and end!" She said, sliding a card into the spell/trap card slot of her disk. "Your go."

"Pretty nice starting field. I draw!" I shouted, drawing my card. I looked over my hand. It consisted of Windstorm of Etaqua, Flying Kamakiri #1, Mystical Space Typhoon, Dragon Ravine, Dragunity Brandistock, and Dragunity Arma Mystletainn. I thought over what I was going to do, and made my move. "First off, I'll activate the spell card Mystical Space Typhoon!" I slid the card into my disk, and the card's enlarged picture flashed up in front of us. "You should know what this does. So I'm going to destroy the Machina Gearframe you used to equip to Fortress!" A typhoon shot out of the card and hit Gearframe's body off of Fortress and shattered to pieces. "I'm not stopping there! Next, I activate the field spell, Dragon Ravine!" I slid the card into the field spell slot, and suddenly, we were standing in a huge ravine. To this day, I still love how well the hologram system works.

"I'll use its effect! By discarding one card from my hand to the graveyard, I can add one level four or below Dragunity card from my deck to my hand. So I'll send Dragunity Brandistock to the grave." It was my turn to take out my deck. I shuffled though it and pulled out Dragunity Aklys. "I choose to add Aklys to my hand!" I showed her the card and slid it into my hand. "And now I summon him out to the field!" I placed Anklys' card onto the disk's plate, and his hologram showed up, along with his stat frame.

"Now his other effect activates!" I shouted as Anklys' body started to glow. "When he's normal summoned, I'm allowed to special summon a Dragunity monster from my hand to the field, and equip Anklys to the summoned card, so I summon Dragunity Arma Mystletainn!" I placed Mystletainn on the disk's plate, and slid Anklys' card in the spell/trap card slot underneath Mystletainn's. An enlarged picture of his card showed up between us, then he emerged out of the card, his stat frame following. Then I watched my favorite part of this combo go into play, as Anklys ran in front of Mystletainn, and Anklys' body began to glow. His arms, legs, head, and wings slid into his body, away from sight, and the huge spearhead locked into place over where Anklys' head used to be. Mystletainn quickly grabbed him up, and swung him over his shoulder.

"That's not where it ends. You see, when Mystletainn is special summoned from my hand, I can equip him with a Dragunity in my grave. The Dragunity I'll use is Dragunity Brandistock!" Suddenly, Mystletainn's sword began to glow. When the light faded, Brandistock, already in weapon mode, took its place.

"What exactly are you trying to do?" Melissa said, placing her hands on her hips. "No matter how many Dragunities you equip to Mystletainn, his attack points won't increase, and Machina Fortress has higher attack points."

I looked at Mystletainn. It would be different if Leyvaten were out here instead of Mystletainn, I thought to myself, but that's all right, this can still work. "Before continuing, I'll set a face down for later." I said, setting Windstorm of Etaqua. "Now, Mystletainn attack!" I watched as Mystletainn dashed toward Machina Fortress, knowing that he wouldn't win.

"What the hell? You trying to lose?!" Melissa said, pressing a button on her disk. "Well then let me help! I activate my trap card, Metalmorph! Increasing Fortress' attack by 300!" Fortress' body started to glow, and his stat frame displayed his new 2800 attack power."

"Doesn't make a difference to me! Mystletainn! Continue your attack!" Mystletainn ran full speed at Fortress, holding both Anklys and Brandistock at his sides. Fortress lowered its massive cannon, aligning it with Mystletainn's direction, letting it charge up before firing a massive blast. Mystletainn blew up on contact, and my life points lowered from 8000 to 7300. The field was filled with smoke.

"So," Melissa said, waving off some of the smoke, "mind telling me the whole point of that?"

"You'll see." I said, smiling. As the smoke cleared, Anklys in his weapon form flew out and pierced Fortress right through the head. Both of them shattered into pieces.

"Wha- what the heck just happened?!"

A picture of Anklys' card showed up. "You see," I said, "when Anklys is sent to the graveyard while he's equipped to a monster, I'm allowed to destroy one face up card on your side of the field. So I picked Machina Fortress."

"Not too bad," the snow leopard said, "but I can bring Fortress back all too easily. And plus, I get to activate his other effect!" Fortress' picture showed up in front of us. "When Fortress is destroyed due to a monster effect, I'm allowed to discard a card from your hand to the graveyard! So I'm picking the only one left in your hand!" A small lazer shot out of Fortress' card at the Flying Kamakiri #1 in my hand, and it shattered on contact. I smiled again at how well the hologram system worked. "That ends my turn! You're up!"

"Alright then, I draw!" she shouted, drawing her card. She looked over her hand for a minute. "Lucky for you, I'm not bringing out Fortress this turn. I'll set one monster face down and end!" She placed a card face down on her disk's plate, and an enlarged face down card hologram showed up in front of her. "Your turn."

"I draw then." I said, getting a bit tired of yelling. I looked at the card in my hand, which was Dragunity Darkspear. I thought about what I'd do for a minute, and got to work. "I'll activate the effect of Dragon Ravine. I discard the card in my hand, and grab Dragunity Militum to my deck." I declared, following the card's instructions. "Then I'll summon her to the field." I placed her card on the disk plate, and shot out of her card's hologram. Militum was one of the few Dragunities that was actually a human. She turned toward me, awaiting orders.

"Militum, attack her face down card!" I shouted, pointing at Melissa's face down. Militum nodded, and dashed toward the floating card. She slashed at it with the sword in her right hand, but it bounced off uselessly. The card revealed itself, and Trap Reactor Y FI came out.

"100 attack points short Tobio!" Melissa shouted. My life point counter lowered from 7300, to 7200.

"Your move." I said back.

"Okay, draw!" She yelled out, drawing her card. "Hmmm," she said, looking over her hand, "I'll just set another monster and end." Another card hologram showed up in front of her.

"Draw." I said. I looked at the card I had drawn. It was Icarus Attack, a card that would destroy 2 cards on the field if I tribute 1 Winged Beast type monster on my side of the field. This could come in handy later. I thought to myself. "I'll set one card face down." I slid my card into place, and the card hologram showed up in front of me. I could attack, I thought to myself, but that might also be a high defense monster. "I end my turn."

"Draw!" Melissa shouted. "I'll normal summon to the field, Heavy Mech Support Platform to the field!" The card showed up, and a sort of aircraft type thing shot out of it. "Then, due to it's effect, I'll special summon Turbo Booster!" I watched as the yellow little machine flew onto the field. "I now use Support Platform's effect! During my main phase, I can equip it to any Machine type monster on my field, and I'll equip him to Turbo Booster!" Support Platform started to fold itself up, and attached itself to Turbo Booster's back, giving it a giant... backpack type...thing... "I end my turn!" Melissa shouted.

I shook my head a bit, wondering to myself what the point of shouting for the entire duel was. "Draw." I was kind of caught off guard when I saw what, or rather who, I had drawn.

"Miss me?" Leyvaten said, appearing behind me.

"Well you sure took your time." I replied, still looking forward.

"Sorry, traffic yah know?"

"Well, I can't summon you yet, but I have a plan to-"

"Hey!" Melissa shouted, "I don't have all day here! Come on! Make your move!"

"Alright, alright!" I shouted back. "I end."

"Thank you!" She said, letting out a sigh, "Draw!" She looked over her hand for a minute. "I now sacrifice Turbo Booster to bring out Summon Reactor SK!" Her Turbo booster vanished from sight, and Summon Reactor took its place. "I reveal my face down monster, Spell Reactor RE!" The face down card suddenly turned into Spell Reactor.

Dang, I thought, so if I had attacked it, I would've been fine!

"Calm yourself Tobio," Leyvaten said, "you haven't lost yet." I had totally forgotten that Leyvaten could listen to my thoughts.

"I now use Summon Reactor's special effect!" Melissa shouted. "Since both Trap and Spell Reactor on my field, I can tribute them and Summon reactor to special summon my trump card!" A bright light surrounded all three reactors.

This isn't good. I thought to myself. The light vanished, and standing before me, was a giant robot, much different from the others. It looked as though the three reactors had combined their components into one robot, which I'm pretty sure, is exactly what had happened.

"Say hello to your worst nightmare; Flying Fortress Sky Fire!" Melissa shouted, smiling. "Prepare yourself! This card is one of the strongest in my deck! I haven't lost with this card yet, and I doubt I will now! I'd like to see you try and-"

"ARE YOU QUITE DONE YET?!" I asked, irritated. Honestly, the one thing I hated about Melissa was when she gets so into the game, she doesn't even let me speak. "If you would stop BABBLING I would take it out! Which I will GLADLY do right now! I activate my trap; Icarus Attack!" My face down card revealed itself. "By activating this card, I tribute one Winged Beast type monster on my side of the field to destroy two cards on the field, and I've made it pretty clear what I'm gonna destroy first; your Flying Fortress Sky Fire!" I watched as Militum disappeared, and Sky Fire blew to bits. Melissa stood there, mouth gaping open.

"Unfortunately, I have to destroy exactly two cards, and since you don't have anything left, I select my second face down card." With that, my Windstorm of Etaqua was no more.

"W...well..." she replied, still in shock, "I," she shook her head, "I set one face down and end."

"Draw!" I said, with new enthusiasm. I checked the card. It was another Dragunity Aklys. "There we go!" I said, smiling. I looked at Leyvaten.

Ready?

"Ready."

I looked back at Melissa. "I summon to the field, Dragunity Anklys!" I slapped on Anklys' card on the disk plate, and Anklys came out. "I hope you remember his effect, cause I'm NOT explaining again. So from my hand, I special summon my favorite card, DRAGUNITY ARMA LEYVATEN!!!" A huge typhoon surrounded Anklys. Behind me, Leyvaten vanished into his card, preparing for his summoning to the field. I slid the cards in the appropriate places. Suddenly, two pairs of wings burst out of the typhoon, causing it to die out. Now, standing in place of Anklys who was now in weapon mode, was Leyvaten in his true form.

He wasn't that much different from his anthro form, although his legs had enlarged a bit. There was a huge size difference, though. Compared to his 5' 9 form, this Leyvaten stood at an intimidating 10' 4. His original wings were now on his lower hips, and in place of where they used to be, were huge angel-like wings. He stood there, Anklys in his left hand, and swung over his right shoulder was a giant 7' blade. He made a loud roar of pride, and his stat frame popped up.

"Now Leyvaten's effect activates! Because Leyvaten was special summoned, I can equip one dragon type monster from my graveyard to Leyvaten. I select Dragunity Brandistock!" Leyvaten tossed his sword in the air, and it started to glow. When the light faded, Brandistock's weapon form took its place. Leyvaten quickly grabbed him before it fell to the ground. I realized that I had used Mystletainn in the exact same combo earlier.

Sweet, I thought to myself, now I can make up for that. "Now, Leyvaten, attack Melissa directly!" He nodded in response, and dashed towards Melissa, who braced herself for the attack. He swung Anklys up, and slashed at her, cutting her life point counter from 8000 to 5400. "Don't think I'm stopping just yet! Now I can use Brandistock's special effect. Any monster equipped with him has the ability to attack twice during each battle phase, so now, Leyvaten, attack once more!" Leyvaten twirled around Brandistock a bit, and flung him, spear head first, straight at Melissa. It bounced off her duel disk, and her life point counter dropped to 2800. Leyvaten caught Brandistock again, and stood there, just waiting for orders. "It's your move."

"Draw." She said, with a now more serious expression on her face. She checked her card. "I play Swords of Revealing Light!" With that, three glowing swords appeared before Leyvaten. "Now you won't be able to attack for three turns. Your turn."

"Alight then, draw." I drew my card, and checked what it was. It was Riryoku, a card that would drain half the attack points of one of Melissa's monsters and add that amount to Leyvaten's attack points. Can't use this yet, can't use it for a while. "I end my turn." One of the swords vanished, signifying that two turns were left.

"Draw." She drew her card and looked at it. "Your move."

"Nothing? Well okay then, draw." This time, the card I had drawn was Call of the Haunted.I'll save this for later. "I set one card face down and end my turn." Another sword vanished and only one was left.

"Draw." She looked at her card, and let out a quiet growl. "Your turn."

"Draw." I checked the card, which was Armed Dragon LV 5. I thought out what to do, and got to work. "I now sacrifice Leyvaten to tribute summon Armed Dragon LV 5!" Leyvaten vanished and Armed Dragon took his place. "Now Anklys' effect automatically activates!" His card popped up in front of me. "Since he was sent to the graveyard while he was equipped to a monster, I can destroy one card on the field. So I destroy your Swords of Revealing Light!" At that, the card shattered before us. "Now I trigger my face down, Call of the Haunted!" The card presented itself, and the graveyard slot on my disk started to glow. "With its special effect, I summon Leyvaten from my graveyard back to my field!" Leyvaten appeared once again, ready to finish the job. "Armed Dragon, attack!" Armed Dragon opened his mouth, filled with fire, and blasted it at Melissa, causing her life points to drop down to 400. "Now, Leyvaten, end this duel, attack her directly!" Leyvaten nodded, twirled his blade around, and dashed at Melissa. He made one final slash, and the duel was over. Both of my dragons made their own roars of triumph. The holograms faded, and that was the end of that. I walked up to her.

Melissa let out a sigh. "I gotta say Tobio, I'm impressed. Though I wish I hadn't lost." She drew the top card on her deck. "Just as I thought." She showed me her hand. She had Hand Destruction, Ancient Gear Beast, and Limiter Removal. The card she had just drawn was X-Head Cannon. "If I had survived, I would have been able to summon Machina Fortress and activate my face down." She took her face down card out of its slot. It was Roll Out, a card that would equip a monster on her side of the field with a Union monster in her graveyard.

I smiled, putting my cards back. "I guess. Ah well, what happens happens."

"True," she said in reply, also putting her cards back, "well thanks for the game, anyway."

"Sure thing, I guess I'll see you later." I said, sliding my disk back into the bag.

"See ya." She said, turning to her friends. I looked over and saw that Marvin had left. I'll never understand that guy. I shook my head a bit headed back to my dorm.

End of CH 1

(Still reading? Hmmm, I might not be as bad as I thought. Anyway, the duel you just read was actually one I had. I just played a game with a friend and wrote down everything that happened. To be honest, I think this chapter was sloppily done but in truth, this was just to introduce the characters and get a backstory out of the way. Thanks for reading this far, and by the way, if my constant side notes annoy you, just skip when you see the parenthesis. I have yet to complete the rest so just bookmark this page and keep chekin fer updates.)

CH 2

In an unknown hiding place, a lone figure sits in a dark room, with the only light provided coming from a computer screen. On it was a replay of a duel that occurred at duel academy. The field had just been cleared by the effect of Icarus Attack, and now it was the Slifer boy's turn. The figure, which when in the light could be identified as an anthro wolf, was watching closely, very closely.

"I summon to the field, Dragunity Anklys!" the boy yelled, putting the card in the appropriate slot on his disk. "I hope you remember his effect, cause I'm NOT explaining again. So from my hand, I special summon my favorite card, DRAGUNITY ARMA LEYVATEN!!!" The wolf's focus increased ten fold, watching intently what was going on behind the boy. "Ready?" the boy asked to no one in particular, or so it seemed. The wolf's eyes widened, and quickly clicked the pause button on his keyboard. He paused a bit late, so he used his mouse to slowly rewind a few seconds. He zoomed in on the boy. The wolf growled, the image was far too blurry.

"That the security camera footage Z?" A young, sinister voice asked behind the wolf. He tensed up, and turned his head to the source of the voice, which had come from a floating creature known as Lurrie. He had the body of a small human boy, but with purple skin. He wore the attire of ancient Rome, including a black colored toga, a metal bracelet on both of his arms, black sandals, and a form of legging also being black. However, He also wore a red mask covering everything but his pointed ears, blue hair, and his mouth, which contained his razor sharp teeth. And lastly, he had a pair of black wings on his back, giving him the impression of a Roman demon.

The wolf now identified as Z replied. "Dammit Lurrie, how many times must I remind you to not interrupt me while I'm working?"

"Sorry Z, I was just-"

"And I've told you before," Z cut in, "you are to refer to me as Zeta."

"Yes sir Z, I-I mean Zeta." Lurrie replied nervously. Zeta smirked, and turned back to his computer screen. Lurrie slowly floated onto Zeta's shoulder, who didn't object, being too focused on the task at hand. Seen in proper lighting, you can see Zeta's additional features. A red seven can be seen at the far end of his right eye. He had bright green eyes, which stood out from his black fur. Looking closely enough, you could just make out the long gash starting at his neck leading down into his shirt.

I know I saw it, Zeta thought to himself, typing in some commands on his keyboard, it's there, I just know it. He constantly went back and forth with the video, trying to find what he had just seen. He paused once more, believing he had found what he was looking for. He typed up a few more commands, slowly clearing up the image.

"There!" Zeta declared, standing from his chair, smiling broadly. Lurrie floated up to the screen to see what was so special. The scene before him left Lurrie speechless. To normal eyes, all that would be seen is the Slifer boy, but to special individuals, that wouldn't be the case. Currently behind the boy, was a dragon named Leyvaten.

"I-is that?"

"Another spirit monster, yes." Zeta replied, "At long last, I've found another."

"H-he sure looks strong Zeta," Lurrie stated, "y-you don't plan on making me fight that thing are you?" He turned to his master nervously.

"We shall see how things go." Zeta said to him blandly.

"Y-yes sir," he replied, holding back some tears. Zeta sat back down in his chair, satisfied with his finding. Lurrie floated back onto his master's shoulder. "Um, sir?"

"What is it Lurrie?" Zeta asked, irritation apparent in his tone.

"Sh-shall I go tell Alpha?" Zeta paused for a minute.

"No," he said, "she doesn't need to learn about this just yet. Besides, this one's mine."

"Yes sir," Lurrie replied. He then decided to vanish back to Zeta's deck. The wolf sat there for a moment, just staring at the monitor. He then reached for his mouse, and clicked a side bar, opening up a list of Slifer-red students in duel academy. Each having a picture next to the appropriate name. He clicked on one student, opening up his profile.

Tobio Rao, Zeta read to himself, I'm taking your card next. Zeta smiled wickedly, then got started on his next move.

"THE FUCK!!!" I shouted loudly after I had checked my D-tablet for new messages. Leyvaten popped up beside me soon after.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"I got one of those stupid surprise duel tests scheduled for today." I answered, glaring at my D-tablet.

"Duel tests?" Leyvaten asked.

"They're duels that check if I stay in my dorm, move on to the next one, or just flunk out."

"Isn't that what finals are for?" Leyvaten asked, raising an eye ridge.

"Tests like this are only for duelists like me, barely passing and on the verge of failing."

"Ahh, I see." Leyvaten said, "So when's the test?"

"Uhhh, hold on let me see here," I replied, scrolling through the message, "about...... fifteen minutes from now."

"Should we get prepared then?"

"How would I prepare?" I asked, looking at him, "I'm as ready as I'll ever be."

"Well it couldn't hurt to make a few adjustments to your deck would it?" Leyvaten replied, smiling.

"Pfft, fine," I replied, "but not because you told me, I'm doing this to pass the time."

"Sure, we'll go with that," he replied.

***

After a few minutes of preparing, I headed on over to the designated area where my supposed "pop-duel" would be.

"Here we are," I said out loud. Leyvaten popped up next to me. He looked around.

"So where's your opponent?" He asked, looking at me.

"Not sure," I replied, "probably running late." I looked around, noticing that we were the only ones here. Seriously, it was like the place was abandoned. "Wonder where everyone went."

"Well, at least we get to have some privacy," he said, shrugging a bit. I simply nodded in response. I let out a sigh and put my hands on the back of my head.

I looked around one more time. "Seriously, where is everyone? It's making me uncomfortable."

"Probably studying," Leyvaten replied, "are you expecting any major tests in any of your classes?"

"Well, now that I think about it there is that quiz in biology but I don't think tha-"

"My sincere apologies," someone cut in behind me, "I had a bit of a delay getting here." I turned to look at the guy, who was, mmmmm, I'd say 6'3. Added to that, he was an anthro. Wolf anthro to be exact. He was wearing one of those Duel Academy robes that cover the legs. He was wearing some kind of cap. The weird thing was that he was wearing half of a mask over the right side of his face. I guess it was for medical reasons.

"So are you the one testing me?" I asked, trying not to stare at his mask.

"Yes indeed I am," he replied, making a small bow. "Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Roland, I shall be your opponent for today."

"Nice to meet you sir," I replied, making a little bow of my own. "My name's Tobio Rao."

"Yes, I know who you are," he said, a warm smile crossing his face, "I've looked at your records. Rather impressive for your rank I must say."

"Thanks," I replied smiling, "but I don't think now's the time to talk about how awesome I am, we should get this duel started."

"Oh yes of course," he said, putting his bag down and unzipping it. "One moment please."

"Tobio," Leyvaten said to me, looking intently at Roland.

"What's up?" I quietly asked him.

"We should be careful about this one," he replied, not taking his eyes off of the wolf.

"What? Why?" I said, looking at him as well.

"I'm not sure," he said, "but there's something different about this guy. I'm not sure what but I have a feeling I won't like it if I ever find out."

"Alright, I'll be careful."

"Promise?"

"Promise." At that, Leyvaten flashed back into my deck. When Roland finished his preparations, we both put our decks in our duel disks.

"Are you ready Tobio?" Roland asked me.

"Yes sir," I replied, nodding.

"Then let us begin."

"DUEL!" we both shouted. Our life points hit 8000 and the game was on.

"I shall take the first move," Roland declared. "Draw." He took a few seconds to look over his hand and began his move. "First, I'll activate the spell, One for One!" He slid the card in, and it's hologram popped up in front of us. "By sending one monster card from my hand to the graveyard, I can special summon any level one monster from my deck. I send my Fabled Soulkius to the graveyard to the graveyard to special summon The Fabled Chawa to my side of the field!" He slid his Soulkius to the grave and grabbed his Chawa from his deck, slapping it onto his disk plate. It's enlarged card picture flashed up and Chawa came out of it.

"Next, I activate my Soulkius' special effect!" This time, Soulkius' card picture showed up. "By discarding two cards in my hand, I can special summon him to my field. So I discard The Fabled Cerburrel and another Soulkius so I can special summon him!" He did what he had to do, and Soulkius popped up next to Chawa. "Now I tune my Fabled Chawa with my Fabled Soulkius to perform a Synchro Summon!"

At that, Chawa jumped up into the air, and dispersed into a sort of green glowing ring, which Soulkius jumped through. Then suddenly, there was a brilliant flash of light surrounding Soulkius. "I Synchro Summon, Ancient Sacred Wyvern, in attack mode!" The light died down, and where Soulkius once stood was a huge serpent like dragon. It roared out loudly, and it's stat box popped up. "I shall end my turn with a face down," he declared, sliding a card into one of the slots, "your move."

Man, I thought to myself, a Synchro Summon on the first turn? This guy sure means business... "Draw!" I shouted, drawing my card. I looked over my hand; it had two Mystletainns, a Windstorm of Etaqua, Dragunity Partisan, an Armed Dragon LV3, and a Widespread Ruin. Alright, I thought to myself, let's do this. "First, I summon Dragunity Partisan to the field!" I slapped his card on causing both his card picture and his hologram to appear.

"Next, by sending him to the graveyard, I can special summon Dragunity Arma Mystletainn!" I followed the directions, and brought him out. "Now Mystletainn's second effect activates!" I shouted as his card image showed up again. "When he's special summoned from my hand, I can equip him with any dragon type "Dragunity" monster in my grave! So I equip him with Partisan!" Mystletainn flung his sword in the air, which glowed and shifted into Partisan's weapon mode, and caught it in mid-air.

"Might I ask the point of all this?" Roland asked me. "Your Mystletainn still isn't stronger than my Wyvern."

"I know," I replied with a smile, "but I get points for style on this one." Roland shook his head. "I end my turn with two face downs!" I set my Windstorm and Widespread. "You're up mister."

"Fine then, draw!" he shouted, drawing his card. He glanced at it, making a small nod. "I shall set a face down and end." The hologram of a face down spell/trap card flashed into view. "It's your move."

"Alright then, draw!" I drew my card and looked at it. It was Card Destruction. Nice, I thought to myself, grinning. I turned to Roland, who was watching me intently. "I activate Card Destruction!" I declared, sliding it into the correct slot. "That means we each discard our entire hand, then draw cards from our deck for each card discarded!" We both followed the card's instructions, and drew our cards.

"You've activated my Fabled Krus' effect!" Roland shouted, Krus' card popping up in front of him. "When she's discarded from my hand, I'm allowed to special summon any level four or below monster from my grave to the field, so I special summon The Fabled Chawa back to the field in attack mode!" He grabbed Chawa from the grave and slapped him onto the disk, causing his hologram to pop up.

Attack mode? I thought to myself, probably a trap set up. I glanced at my new hand; it had Aklys and Militum. "I end my turn, your go."

"Alright, draw!" He shouted, drawing his card. He looked at it and grinned. "First, I shall summon to the field, the Fabled Raven in attack mode." He put the card on the disk, and out came Raven along with his stat box. "Then, I activate the effect of the Fabled Grimro from my hand." The enlarged picture showed up as he explained. "If I control another face up "Fabled" monster on my field, I can send her from my hand to the grave to add any "Fabled" monster from my deck to my hand, so I add the Fabled Krus to my hand."

He pulled the card out of his deck and added it to his hand. "Now I activate Raven's special effect!" Raven's card popped up again. "Through his effect, I'm allowed to discard any number of cards in my hand to increase his level by one for each card discarded." He sent his only card to the grave. "So by discarding Krus, his level increases by one!" This time, his stat box popped up with his level, indicating it rose from a two to a three.

"Now for the effect of Krus! If you recall, I can special summon any level four or below monster from my grave when she's discarded from my hand, so I summon to the field, the Fabled Grimro, in attack mode!" He went through the cycle, and brought out Grimro. "That's not where it ends, I tune my Grimro with Raven to Synchro Summon another Sacred Wyvern!" Raven changed into those rings, surrounding Grimro, then the flash of light. When the light faded, the second Wyvern took its place on the field.

"I'm not stopping there!" He shouted, my mouth hanging open. "I tune my Wyvern with my Chawa for my next Synchro Summon!" Chawa hopped up in the air for the second time, changing into his ring, and Wyvern flew through it. For the third time today, the light flashed. "Synchro Summon! Come forth, Stardust Dragon!" Out of the bright light, Stardust Dragon flew out, glittering and shining.

"Not so fast!" I shouted, triggering my face down. "I activate, Windstorm of Etaqua!" The card hologram flipped up. "Now, all of your monsters are switched to defense position!" I giant wind shot up, forcing the two dragons into defense position. "Since you just summoned the both of them, you have to wait until next turn to switch them back into attack mode!"

"Hmph, nice move," Roland responded, "I end my turn."

"Alright, draw!" I shouted, looking at my card. I smiled.

"So what I miss?" Leyvaten asked me as he popped up beside me.

"Take a look." I replied.

He looked over to the opposite field. "Holy smokes."

"Yeah... but don't worry, I know what to do." He nodded in response.

"Do what you gotta do then."

I nodded, and then I began my move. "To start things off, I summon to the field, Dragunity Aklys!" I slapped his card on, and he ran out of his card with enthusiasm. "Now for his effect! When he's normal summoned, I can special summon a Dragunity monster from my hand to the field, and equip him to that monster, so I summon, Dragunity Militum!" I put everything where they needed to be, and Militum came out, grabbing Aklys after changing into weapon form.

"I'm just getting warmed up!" I shouted to Roland. "I activate the effect of Dragunity Arma Leyvaten!" His card showed up in front of us. "By banishing any monster equipped with a "Dragunity" card from the game, I can special summon him to the field. So I banish my Militum to bring him out, so let's do this!" A huge typhoon suddenly surrounded Militum where she stood. "Let's not forget the effect of Aklys!" I shouted over the roar of the wind. "Since he was sent to the graveyard when he was used as an equip card, I can destroy any card on the field! So I select your Stardust Dragon!" Aklys in his spear form shot out of the typhoon toward Stardust Dragon.

"I activate Stardust Dragon's special ability!" Roland shouted, the card's picture popping up. "By tributing it, I can negate and destroy any card with a destruction effect! So Aklys' effect is negated!" Stardust Dragon shined brightly, and disappeared, causing Aklys to shatter.

"Regardless, Leyvaten is still summoned, so come on out and take the stage, Dragunity Arma Leyvaten!" As I shouted out, two giant angel wings burst out of the typhoon, making it die out, and there where Militum once stood was Leyvaten, finally taking the field. He roared out loudly, and his stat frame popped up. "Now his effect activates," I said, a bit tired from all that shouting, "when he's summoned, I can equip him with any dragon type monster in my grave, so I equip him with Dragunity Aklys." Suddenly, Aklys in weapon form fell from the sky and landed in front of Leyvaten, who picked him up and swung him over his shoulder. I looked over to Roland, who seemed unusually tense, but, well I'm not entirely sure, but I think I saw him grinning.

Bahh, I've still got his face downs to worry about, I thought to myself. "I end my turn."

"Now that it's the end phase, Stardust Dragon returns to the field." He stated as it re materialized in front of us. "My move, draw!" He shouted, drawing his card. He smiled. "I end."

"Draw." I said, drawing my card. It was Dragunity Dux. Savin you for later. I looked to Roland. "I end."

"I draw!" He shouted out. He looked at his new card and looked at it. His smile broadened. "I activate the effect of The Fabled Chawa that's in my hand!" Its picture popped up. "I can discard a "Fabled" card in my hand to special summon him from my hand." He followed the instructions, and Chawa came running out. "Now the effect of the Fabled Lurrie activates!" Its card popped up like Chawa's. "When he's discarded to the graveyard, I can special summon him to the field!" Lurrie flashed up beside Chawa, giggling like a maniac. It made me shudder. He flew around and landed on Roland's shoulder. He screamed under his mask after seeing Leyvaten. I jumped, caught off guard.

Roland glared at him, making Lurrie shrink back. Strange, I thought to myself, I didn't know holograms could be so life like. I looked up at Leyvaten, and noticed something strange. Most of the time, when Leyvaten battled, he looked calm and collected. But now, for some reason, he looked worried. I could even see his shoulders tense up. I wanted to ask him, but that risked exposure to Roland, so I kept my silence.

Roland shook Lurrie off his shoulder and declared his next move. "I now tune Fabled Lurrie with The Fabled Chawa for a Synchro Summon!" Chawa went through the ring process once again. A bright light shined again. "I Synchro Summon Formula Synchron!" Out of the light, a racecar machine...thing...came racing out to the field. "Now for his effect!" The card showed up in front of us. "When he's Synchro Summoned, I get to draw a card from my deck!" He drew his card, not bothering to even look at it. "Now the fun begins, I tune my Stardust Dragon with my Formula Synchron!"

"WWWHHHAAAT!?" I exclaimed, completely caught off guard.

"You didn't know?" Roland responded, grinning. "Formula Synchron is a Synchro Tuner. So now, I perform an Accel Synchro!" Both Formula Synchron and Stardust Dragon flew to the sky at an amazing speed. Formula Synchron changed into the rings, and surrounded Stardust Dragon. A light brighter than a Synchro Summon shined in the sky. "Come forth, SHOOTING STAR DRAGON!" The light came down and Shooting Star Dragon emerged. It roared out loudly, and its stat box popped up. "Next I activate, Phoenix Wing Wind Blast!" He shouted, triggering his face down. "By discarding one card, I can send any card you control to the top of your deck, so I select your face down!"

A huge wind blew from the card and blew my face down back into my hand. I placed it at the top of my deck, taking a breath. "I discarded the Fabled Catsith," Roland declared as the picture popped up, "so that means I can destroy any face up card on the field, so I destroy Mystletainn!" Mystletainn exploded after all was said. "Then I switch Ancient Sacred Wyvern into attack position." He shifted Wyvern's card to the correct position, and Wyvern rose, ready to attack. "Now, Shooting Star Dragon, attack his dragon now!" At that, Shooting Star Dragon unleashed a powerful blast at Leyvaten, who braced himself for impact. All I could do was watch as he was blown away, and my life points dropped to 7300.

"Leyvaten!" I cried out as he was hit by the attack. "Don't worry," I said to myself quietly, "I can do this." I looked back to Roland, who was smiling wildly. Man, this guy sure is going hard on me. "I activate the effect of Aklys again!" I shouted, more determined than ever. "You remember what he does, so I target your Shooting Star Dragon!" Aklys shot out at his monster.

"Do you really think that will work? I activate Shooting Star Dragon's special effect!" As he said this, Shooting Star Dragon began to glow. "Once per turn, I can negate and destroy any destruction effect, much like Stardust Dragon except I don't require it's tribute." As Aklys flew toward the giant dragon, he began to dissolve more and more as Shooting Star Dragon shined brighter and brighter. By the time Aklys got to it, he dissolved into nothing but dust. Roland smiled. "Now if you noticed, my Wyvern's attack increased by 700." I looked at its stat box and saw he was right. Now instead of its usual 2100, it was at 2800. "This is due to its effect. When my life points are higher than my opponent's, Ancient Sacred Wyvern gains attack for the difference. And guess what, it hasn't attacked yet." I took a step back.

"Ancient Sacred Wyvern, attack him DIRECTLY!" The serpentine dragon began charging its attack. I couldn't do a thing. "FIRE!" At that, it launched its attack. Once it hit, I screamed out. You know why? I felt pain. Like, ACTUAL pain. And it hurt. A LOT. It seemed like hours before the attack had finally ended. As the blast faded away, I fell to my knees. I panted heavily. I weakly looked up at Roland, expecting to see a concerned look. But instead, I saw him smiling even more. Added to that, he was laughing. You know how those evil dudes on TV laugh right? Well, kinda like that, except a hell of a lot more scary. Well to me anyway.

"Sorry kid," he finally said after he was done laughing at me, "but you have something I want, something I have to take by force." I slowly got up, which caught Roland off guard. "You're actually up, I'm surprised, most people don't survive their first real attack."

"Who the hell are you?" I asked weakly.

"Sorry, I can't reveal that just yet," he replied. "Besides, it won't matter in a few minutes." He let out another laugh. "I end." I tried to stand up strait, but the best I could manage was a lean. "Oh and by the way," Roland added, "don't bother trying to run. Trust me, it's not worth it."

"And...why would I...listen to you?" I said, taking a few breaths.

"Well let me put it this way, if the damage is real, than that should mean that the monsters are real as well." My heart skipped a beat hearing this. "Make your move, if you can." He began to laugh at me again. I gritted my teeth.

"D...draw!" I yelled out the best I could. I checked the card. It was the Widespread Ruin that was returned to my hand last turn. I looked at Wyvern, then at my life points. I was down to 5200 and Wyvern was at 4900. It was hard to try and think of my move and it was even harder trying to not lose consciousness. "I..." I took a few breaths before continuing, "I summon Dragunity Dux to the field!" I placed his card on the plate of my disk.

"Now his effect activates," I said weakly, his card showing up, "when I summon him, I can equip him with a level three or lower dragon type "Dragunity" monster to him. I equip him with Aklys!" I put the cards in their places as the holograms, no; monsters did what they did best. "Next, I activate the effect of Leyvaten!" I shouted weakly. "Not only can I summon him from my hand, but I can also summon him from my grave, so by banishing Dux, I can summon back Leyvaten. So I summon Leyvaten in defense mode!" I put the cards where they needed to be, and watched as Leyvaten emerged once again.

"And again Aklys' effect activates," I declared, "and I target Shooting Star Dragon once again!" And again, Aklys flew toward Shooting Star Dragon.

"Once again, you prove yourself a fool!" Roland shouted out. "Shooting Star Dragon, negate the effect of Aklys now!" Shooting Star Dragon began to glow again, and turned Aklys to dust.

"Whatever," I responded, "I still equip him to Leyvaten due to his effect." Aklys reformed in Leyvaten's hand. "I set one card and end."

"It's hopeless you know," Roland shouted to me, "sooner or later you'll give in, and that spirit card of yours will be mine!" He looked at Leyvaten, who gasped in response. He turned to ask me what was going on, then saw my condition.

"TOBIO!" He said, kneeling down to me. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah," I responded weakly, "I'm okay." Leyvaten turned to Roland.

"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Leyvaten asked him furiously.

"I've done what I've been doing to so many!" He responded, laughing again. "Soon, your friend will die, and I will take his place as your new master! There is nothing you can do! A HAHAHA!" Leyvaten roared out furiously. "My move! Draw!" He shouted out. He looked at his card, paused for a few seconds, and looked to me. "You know what Tobio?" He asked me. "I'm going to do something I rarely ever do." I only glared at him in response. He held up three fingers. "I give you until three turns from now to make a come back."

"W...why?" I asked, still struggling to stay awake.

"Because," he responded, grinning, "I want to show you how hopeless it is to continue." I continued to stare as he spoke. "No matter what you do, you will NOT win. I've studied your deck, and there isn't a single card in your deck that can save you now." He placed a card face down. "I shall end my turn with this. Make your move. Let me see how weak you are." He just kept smiling, completely sure he was going to win. And at the time, I believed so too.

"I...I..." my hand was shaking, and Leyvaten was watching me with a concerned look. "I draw!" I looked at my new card, it was Icarus Attack. "I...I set a card and end!" I shouted out, sliding the card in.

"Draw." He said, not even looking at the card. "I end my turn." He held up a finger. "That's one turn, two more and you're through."

"I know how to count jackass." I responded, wiping the smile off Roland's face, causing both Leyvaten and I to smile. "Draw!" I shouted, a bit of energy returning to me. I looked at my card, and my heart leapt with joy. It was another Dragunity Militum.

"Before you continue," he said suddenly, triggering a face down, "I activate my face down, Xing Zhen Hu!" My heart dropped. "Now I select both of your face downs." Suddenly, a box shot out of Xing Zhen Hu's card, encasing both of my facedowns. "Now you can no longer activate them as long as Xing Zhen Hu is on the field. Oh well." I heard Leyvaten growl harshly.

"I...I end."

"Draw," he declared, drawing his card. "I end my turn. One more left, and Leyvaten is mine."

"D...draw," I said as I drew my card. It was Masked Dragon. "I set one monster and end."

"My turn, draw." He drew his card. "I end." He began to laugh again. "That's it! This is your last chance! If you can't make a come back, IT'S OVER! And Leyvaten shall be mine!" He just laughed and laughed, victory was almost completely ensured for him.

"I..." my hand was shaking, I was fighting to hold back the tears welling up, "I...DRAW!!!" Everything was silent. I just stood there, frozen in that position. Slowly, I looked at my card. The card I saw wasn't mine. At least I thought. Yet here it was, in my hand. In the back of my mind, I wondered; How'd this get into my deck? It was a card I'd never seen before.

I just kept staring at the card. Suddenly, someone popped up next to me. I quickly looked to see who it was. For the umphteenth time today, I stared in amazement, mouth hanging open. Beside me stood a black anthro dragon, standing at 6'4, with deep purple eyes. He looked like the anthro form of my newly drawn card, except for the fact that his skin seemed a lot smoother, and added to that, he was wearing a suit similar to Leyvaten's, just colored with black and gold. I wasn't sure if anyone else was looking at him, but I'm sure they were. He kept looking forward for a few seconds, arms folded, examining the field I guess, then looked at me.

"You the one with a spirit card?" He asked plainly. I just nodded slowly. He turned back to the field. He let out a sigh. "Figures I get stuck in another bad situation." None of us said anything for a few seconds.

"E...excuse me?" I finally asked him. He looked to me.

"What is it?"

"Who...are you?" I asked, dumbstruck.

"Me?" He asked. "I'm a guardian of the spirit monsters. I've been sent to protect you and Leyvaten. I am Critias."
