#12 of The Legacy Cycle

I plan to alter a lot of things about this chapter. please ignore this or if you're bored, read on. I think I wrote this with a severe case of Writer's retardation.

This is not currently apart of the story.

Yes, It's been a while. I know, I know. So sorry. I've been busy. This is just a sign that i'm not dead yet!

Currently I'm in the works of writing and retyping Chapter 10- which has a title in working. This chappy will give you insight on how some characters work. Thanks for stayin' with me so far!

Almost forgot: This chapter starts off in first person. I might start doing this at the start of every adventure cause... I dunno, thought i'd try it. I'm not good with first person and practice makes perfect right? There i go chatting on again... Let It BEGIIIIIIN~

ADVENTUE 2

A Darker Design

Chapter 9

"Veraaaaa!" My annoying little brother Joseph called from behind me. He always whines my name like that. Sometimes it's cute hearing my geeky little brother needs my help. Other times, like right now, I can't stand it!

"Veraaaa-" Joey called again

"Shut up!" I snap. Sure it was a bit harsh but it's the only way to make him stop right now.

Anyway, Joey, My best friend April, and I are running through the city. We were chasing some guy and my brother's constant whining was breaking my focus. The three of use was running through Grain-square: It's pretty much like a super-mall of all types of things, but you know, our city has it best.

Then I finally heard what I was waiting for. "B....he... ate..op." The ghostly voice faded in and out. The whispers were all I need to find him.

"Skate shop, guys!" I yell back to them. I take a sharp right. I yell my nice words of 'excuse mes' and 'thank yous' for the tourists' sake. Locals know how I work! I cut through Maka Lane. It's just a second-hand market of stolen and low-level black market crap. Nothing the police gives a damn about. I cut thought the alley of Shady stalls line up on both sides of the street. I dodge and weave through people waiting on line and haggling customers.

I knew April was keeping up by flying behind. I heard the curses of people so I know Joey was not too far off. I jumped around this really huge lady and was clear of Maka Lane.

"..e's... ov..g... T..a..d... the... jun...." The spirits spoke to my ear again. I took another sharp right, right to the train station.

"Cyrus!" I call my spirit. I feel his presence come to me. I'm out of breath from the running, but I don't break pace.

"Yes, m'lady?" My spirit asks.

"Have April go right at the station and Luke head left so we can head this guy off." I tell him. "Come back to me after, I'm cutting through the park."

"As you wish." He replies. I feel him bow and his presence is no longer with me. I cross into a busy street, and a car just misses me. I dodge a car that honks its horn as it threatens to run me down. I scream as it screeches to a halt.

I continue across the street and I pass by the skate shop. The storefront glass is broken and littered with cops. I can see the storeowner, K.C. Talking to one of them. The cop is copying what he is saying down. K.C. Is a really cool guy, and the skate shop isn't as it sounds. Sure, there are skateboards, bikes and skates. There is also a basement level, where he sells tech. And a arena in the back. The guy Is liked by everyone. He eve looks cool now: He flicks some of his dark blue hair back from his face as he gives a firm, even toned answer. He spots me running by and waves. I wave back and smile but I don't slow down. As I come up to the next corner, I can see the gates to the park across the street.

"They are informed my lady." Cyrus speaks to my ear as he returns.

I skid to a stop as a car flies by, nearly sweeping me up in its force.

"Come ON!" I huff as more cars follow. I can see the guy in his tacky black outfit from here. He's already going over Portman's hill. I chance it and dance with active traffic. The light changes to red just as I set foot to the road. That's luck! I whisper my out-of-breath whispers to my god and continue on.

"Yo Nel." I say to a drug-using friend of mine. He and a few of his friends are sitting at the edge of the park on a blanket not doing much else. I figure he's using such drugs now. Before he could notice, or even begin to reply, I'm out of his sight and climbing the semi-steep Portman's hill. When I reach the top, I spot the man again, Trying to hide himself within the crowds who are heading toward the train station.

"Thank you spirits." I say aloud as I pass two kids chasing each other at the very top.

I change my footing so I don't fall as I climb my way down. As I pass a trail, I leap over the fence, and I'm on the opposite side. I'm directly in front of the train station.

"Excuse me!" I yell as I push my way through the crowd.

The people slowly part out of the way, and I push them either way. I reach the turnstile but I can't waste time to pay so I jump over it.

"Hey!" some guy calls behind me. I look back to see who it is and I crash headfirst into someone.

"Ow." I say at the same time as whoever I ran into.

"Watch where you're go-" I start to say but I see who I crashed with.

He was a human, and his short beautiful hair and his big eyes have me trapped. Wow, he's handsome.

He was already up on his feet, extending a hand to help me up. As I silently accept his aid, I notice he's surrounded by a weird group. Probably travelers.

"Th...Thank you." I say numbly. And for a long moment I'm just staring at him.

"SECURITY TO PLATFORM! THERE IS A YOUNG WOMAN-"

That snaps me out of my stare and I realize they're looking for me. I break into a run to avoid approaching secrurity and to chase the thief. There is a train blocking the tracks but I knew he went around, or over. I Run down toward the front, where a guard is already waiting for me. I feint left and go right, spinning right around his body and down to the tracks. I spot him at the far end, right at the gate. I also spot Joey right next to him, April is already on the ground. I try to catch up but the guy kicked Joseph to the ground and clean leaped the fence, which was about 10 feet or so. We can't catch him now, he's in the dense jungle on the island. I sigh and run to catch up to my friends to see if they're alright. Luke is already getting to his feet so I kneel to April.

"Hey Ape, are you okay?"

"Ugh, stop calling me that." She groaned. She's fine. "Where were you?"

"Sorry, I got distracted."

"Distracted?!" She asked, her eyes snapping open. "This is your keen plan and you get distracted?!"

"Sorry! Sorry!" I yell, throwing my hands up in defense. She looked furious enough to lunge at me. "There's a human in town."

"Whaaaaaat?" April asks. "Oh!-Oh! Is he cute?" she instantly forgets the situation

"Oh, sprits, he is so hot. He has a slender taut body and he has the thi-"

"I think I'm gonna puke." Luke said, kneeling over.

"I don't think he kicked you that hard." I say. "It's from your talking about cute boys, stoop."

"There she is!" I hear and the three of us turn to see security heading right toward us.

"Uh-oh. Let's go." I say while helping April up

Four days earlier:

He was late, late beyond his own understanding. He ran up the stairs deciding it would be quicker than the crowded elevator.

"The one time I sleep, I oversleep!" Ian Alther Neos growled to himself as he skipped two stairs at a time. He made his way through the stairs and pushed his way through the double door to the cafeteria.

When he threw the doors open, the small group of people for brunch looked up, including a table of four people.

One of the people at the table jumped when Ian came in.

"Gah! Damn it!" Riles growled at the game he was playing.

The four at the table Ian now made his way to was occupied by Riles, Zaga, Sabel, and Turdrah.

Riles said something under his breath and lifted his eye-patch.

"Welcome Mr. Neos." Sabel said as the human approached. " I trust you've slept well?"

"I know, I know. I'm sorry." Ian quickly bowed in apology.

"Yeah! The E-Man is HERE!" Zaga yelled, jumping up and putting the human in a playful headlock. He pulled Ian aside for a moment. "Remember bro, act natural." He spoke almost in a hushed whisper " We can't let anyone know of our team powers until it's too late."

"Uhhh, Sure." Ian didn't quite follow, but decided to play along.

Turdrah rolled his eyes on how chummy Ian and Zaga already were.

"Hi Turdrah. Sorry I'm late." Ian said, coming back to the table.

The feline held a long stare at the human. Then he slowly closed his eyes as he stood up. In a calm, steady voice, he spoke. "Are we ready to go?"

"Sounds like his highness is mad." Riles teased, not looking up from his game.

"Shut up, you idiot." Riles shot back. He was not happy with this match-up of people. The only one he wanted to see is Terror.

"Stellar pairing by the commander." Sabel agreed to himself. He could already see the problem between Ian and Turdrah. His mind shifted to Terror as well. He stood up, but made no motion toward his bag. "We have to go over a few details first."

The older husky considered all of the factors: Turdrah didn't like Ian, Riles and Turdrah didn't get along, Terror would not cooperate, and that left the unpredictable Zaga with the unknown factor Ian. Sabel considered all of this as group leader, while casting his eyes to each of the present members.

Calmly, Sabel pressed a button in the palm of his hand. His hand lit up and he had a electronic version of the mission details in his palm.

"We have a problem within Gri-city. A letter arrived explaining that People have gone missing for some time now.

"People go missing all the time. What's the problem with that?" Turdrah asked, taking his seat again.

"Stick-up-his-bum is right." Riles agreed. "This is starting to sound like a missing person's case" Riles spoke while tilting his handheld game sideways while he played.

" The problem isn't when they go missing, it's when they're found." Sabel explained. He read into his palm "When some of the people are found, autopsy reports explained that they only have one body part missing." Sabel looked up. "Exactly, only one."

"You mean like, an ear, an arm, and eye?" Zaga asked. "Not quite, but close." Sabel said. He went back to his hand. "So far, they have reported a body missing a finger, one missing her left lung, Yes, an eye, and one more which they're not sure if it's related: One body drained of all of its blood."

Ian's heart skipped a beat on the last part.

"The missing people began happening when several religious groups decided to hold a conference within Gri-city. As soon as the groups arrived, crime has been up as well- Mostly between each group."

"Where is Gri?" Turdrah asked. He had taken his seat between Zaga and Riled.

"Patience sire, patience." Sabel teased.

"They suspect that their arrival and the problem are related?" Riles asked.

"Du-" Turdrah started to tease but Riles looked up from his game and continued

"Their arrival could simply be a perfect cover. Picking an outsider or in this case, a group of outsiders could be the perfect cover for a local to move freely to do what they want. Have the local police found any clues?"

"If they did, they wouldn't be calling us in." Sabel explained.

"Fair enough."

"Gri-city is actually an island. It's warm, tropical, and beautiful. Many tourists come all year round. This is why we'll be taking the train there. On the side note: Only a fourth of the Island is inhabited by people. The rest is either explored or untamed tropical jungle.

"We're taking the Flow-Train? Sweet!" Zaga pumped his fist.

"What happens if it is them?" Ian asked. "If we find out, what do we do?"

"Leave it to the newbie to ask stupid questions." Turdrah said in a nasty voice.

"Not everyone has a silver spoon, and a good teacher up their asses." Riles said in an equally nasty tone. "Terror is his par-"

"Leave him out of this!" Turdrah was suddenly fierce and defensive. As he stood up, his chair slid backward

Riles shrugged turdrah off. "When we're contracted to a mission, we're allowed to use reasonable Force- that allows murder given the situation." Riles grinned at the last part. His grin was a little goofy, in a cute way.

Turdrah, having seen enough of Beta for a while picked up his bag again and started to leave.

"Give me the details later." He said.

"T-Man has the right idea!" Zaga said. He snatched up his bag and ran after Turdrah.

Sabel looked from Ian, who sat, watching and waiting intently to Riles, who was into his game. Then he sighed. "I'll share more of the details later. We're late enough as it is."

Ian hung around in the back of the group. Zaga hung beside him singing some song that sounded horrid. As they entered the beautiful water-lobby, Ian spotted Gore sitting. He as staring blankly as what seemed to be nothing. "I'll catch up." Ian said, cutting off Zaga's song. He ran over

Gore's vision focused when Ian got closer. The gator stood up. "There he is." He said with a obvious tone of pleasure. He pulled Ian close and kissed the human softly. Gore slowly parted the kiss. "Second mission?"

Being close to the gator, he could see the scales on him. They seemed a bit more rugged than before. He figured it wasn't the time to get into it."Yeah! I'm pumped."

"Hope you can be that excited to see me when you come back." Gore squeezed Ian's behind which made the human squirm into Gore's grip more. The gator held him close for a moment longer.

"Go on. I'll be here when you come back." "Have you seen Terror?" Ian asked, as he backed up a bit.

"Yeah, yeah. He's outside."

"I'll see you when we get back." Ian snuck a quick kiss on the cheek and ran to the exit. He spotted Zaga, who was waving franticly. "I'm coming!" Ian yelled.

"Look out, Bro!" Zaga yelled back.

Ian skidded to a stop and fell back just as the Midnight dragon's sword destroyed the ground before him. Dust and rocks flew everywhere. Ian tried to take this moment to move but Terror wouldn't give him that chance.

With surprising speed Terror pulled the great sword from the ground and attacked again. Ian barely had time to draw his sword. In the one attack, Ian's blade was easily knocked away. The force of it hurt Ian's hand and he grunted.

"Terror, stop!" Ian heard someone yell but he couldn't tell who said it. Ian couldn't move this time. He watched in horror as the black closed in from above. He shut his eyes tight, waiting for the finishing blow.

Five long, painful seconds passed and nothing happened. Ian open one eye and had trouble seeing that it was commander Faust standing over him. With a hand, he was holding the blade at bay. The hook of the sword comfortably resting on the back of his hand. Blood fell on Ian's face.

Despite the pain, and the sword working its power on within his hand, Faust held fast. The only thing that saved Faust's hand was that Terror saw the Commanders interception and slowed in hesitation.

"Terror!" Faust grunted. His legs were shaking due to the sword's magic. Terror made No sort of movement knowing the magic would eat away at the commander more. "This is going to be a bitch to take out." Faust said to himself. Because the edges of the blade were shaped like hooks, it makes it more painful to take out than when it was cut in. "Harold..." Faust grunted. "Find a purist. I'm going to need it."

Harold was a sheep. His eyes covered his eyes but he had a very serious look to him. "Yes sir." He said. He cautiously walked by Terror and Faust.

By now a small crowd had began to form. Ian still sat there stunned as Faust began to free himself from the deadly hook of the blade. Faust grunted as he slowly tried to free himself, fresh blood covering the edge. With a grunt that almost rivaled a whimper, Faust Jerked his hand from the blade. A fast and loose trail of blood fell between Ian's feet.

Ian couldn't tear his eyes away from Terror. The Dragon's eyes were locked with his, and Ian could feel how much Terror wanted him gone. What snatched his eyes away was the roar of anger that Ian could place easily.

Ian jumped to his feet as Gore came through the door. He already had an axe drawn and his walked meant he wouldn't hesitate to use it.

"I'll kill him!" The gator roared.

Ian was first to stop Gore, using his body to hold him back. Riles quickly joined with Ian.

"It's not worth it!" Ian yelled, Though his heart was not convinced.

Gore was too strong for the human and he started to push Ian aside. "I can handle this." Gore said, not really listening.

It took several other members of Beta to jump in to slow Gore to a halt. Gore growled at Terror, who's stance and facial expression had not changed. He still kept his hard blue eyes trained on the human.

All the while, Faust stood between them still, clearly remaining a dividing force within this feud.

"Get Gore inside!" Faust ordered in a loud firm voice. The six men minus Riles pushed Gore back inside.

"I'll be fine!" Ian assured to Gore in their last moment of seeing each other. Within the same breath, Isabella came through the doors. "What are my big str- Oh. Oh!" She spotted Faust's hand and the gaping hole at the center.

"I needed a purist, not a doctor." Faust said under his breath. The doctor, despite her size, ran quickly to nurse the commander's hand,

"Hm, we'll need to take you to my office." She said.

" I don-"

"No, you've been avoiding physical exams for almost six months now. You're coming to my office." She took his uninjured hand and started to lead him away.

He spoke into her ear as he walked past Ian and she allowed him a moment to return.

Terror by now had returned his sword to his back, and his eyes shifted to his commander.

"This won't take you off the mission so easy. You will all go as planned." The commander said. As he finished the sentence, his gaze looked from Turdrah then back to Terror. "You still have a obligation and a duty to fulfill. Sabel, Gather your men." Faust ordered.

"With pleasure." The husky said with a weird tone in his voice. He grabbed Ian and helped him to his feet from Gore's shove. Faust held up a hand to Sabel. "Take the others ahead." The commander said in a much softer tone.

Terror held a long glare with Faust before deciding to follow along with the order.

"Today, sir." Isabelle said in a calm but assertive tone.

"One second doctor." Faust said in a tone that a child might give a parent. He turned to Ian. " I know it's hard," Faust started, then he placed his free hand on Ian's shoulder. "But Terror is more damaged than most of us. He needs your help, as well as all of ours. Please don't hold it against him,"

Ian was silent for a long moment. His hands were still shaking. He couldn't steady his body, let alone his mind.

"I... I-I'll try, Sir." Ian replied without much conviction.

"Thank you, Ian." Faust turned to walk with the doctor. "Good luck with the mission." He said behind himself, as the doors closed.

Ian softly nodded. He wasn't so sure about taking missions if it meant being in Terror's company. He would have minded anyone else right now.

'Well, there's Zaga's offer.' He remembered.

The human turned and noticed how far everyone had gotten. He took a deep breath in an attempt to dispel what just happened. Then he took a light jog after them.

As he caught up, the gravity began to set in anew.

'He attacked me!' he said to himself

'In all fairness, you attacked him first.' He replied.

'Two wrongs don't make a- Wait, where have you been?'

'Resting. And you?' He replied to himself smugly.

His mind went silent for a while. 'I've been saying that we should get a transfer since day one.'

'We'll meet our soon-to-be new partner.'

"He Zaga." Ian walked alongside the wolf, who was singing the words of some song again.

"The woooorr- Oh. Sup E-Man?" Zaga asked.

"I was curious." What type of weapon do you use?

Zaga quickly and proudly pounded his chest with his fist. "My body bro!" Zaga proudly declared, then he broke into a grin. "I have a rare gift that lets me fight wild! Like a man should. I don't use it lightly either!"

'Who is this joker?' His mind echoed

'Well, who are you?' Ian shot back.

'I'm obviously you.'

'What does that mean?!'

"You use any other weaps besides that dagger?- I mean, yeah dagger is cool." Zaga said

Ian's hand instinctively went to his sword that was given to him by his teacher.

"Just this..." Ian said quietly. He chanced a look back, and spotted exactly what he was hoping not to find: The midnight dragon, Terror, Held a dark gaze on the human. A unspeakable chill went down his back and he quickly turned to the road ahead of him.

The first of the three day walk was alongside the path Ian explored previously: Near Bronze pass. They took in the sight of the mountain split in two. They bypassed the first campsite, being they made good time that day. Zaga sang a weird melody the entire time. Although the words weren't something they understood, his voice was enough to be enjoyed.

A majority of the time, Riles kept his mind on the game. He walked without looking up, somehow able to see obstacles in his way and avoided them.

Part of the time, Ian ran to and from, observing the world around him.

"You have quite the interest in the world." Sabel noted.

"I never saw those birds at home..." Ian's sentence started off with energy but died toward the end. He stopped walking and the group caught up. He quietly walked beside the husky.

"I didn't see much of outside when I was young." He admitted. "I... I want to see as much as I can... Before they force me to go back." Ian added the last part cryptically before walking at a brisk pace, pulling ahead from the group again, and before Sabel, before he could inquire more about that.

Riles finally ripped his mind from the game when he noticed Ian's position. He looked around and saw everyone: Zaga to the left, Headphones on, Sabel up more ahead, Terror, far behind everyone, And Turdrah, who was walking oddly close to him.

"They're opposite." Riles said aloud.

Turdrah snapped from whatever thoughts he was holding and took the bait. "Who are?"

"The newbie and Terror." Riles explained

Turdrah did indeed look from Ian and to Terror. "You're right. Good, I don't want to see that human near him anyway." Turdrah spat the word "Human" With venom.

"Protective, huh?" Riles leaned in close. "You know, opposites attract. Like magnets. Or even look at Gore and Shali. You know it's bound to hap-"

"Shut up you useless Gamehe-."

"Don't attack me!" Riles threw up his hands. "I'm not going to steal him away from you!"

"What do you know anyway?!" Turdrah yelled, louder than he intended and Sabel looked back. "The closest you had to a girlfriend was your palm!" the fox added.

"You do like that." Riles chimed while he dodged Turdrah's comeback. "You want that big, black dragon deep insi-" Riles spoke in a seductive tone.

"Shut the hell up, One-eye!" Turdrah yelled as he pushed Riles.

"Whoa!" The jackal said as he tried to catch his balance before he fell off of the road. "Am I pushing your buttons? I bet you want that cock to push-"

"Stop it!" Turdrah yelled, nearly in tears. Before either of them could react the black form of Terror with his great sword stood between them, pointed at Riles.

"Whoa, Whoa. Hey! Ahg!" Riles backed up until he fell off of the side of the road this time. The weapon came to prevent Riles from moving.

"Call your monster off!" Riles cried. He crawled back a bit. It began to settle in what stood before him was a midnight dragon. He broke out in a cold sweat.

"Not so cocky now, huh?" Turdrah teased behind Terror.

Riles growled and tried to get up but Terror's blade blocked his path

"You can't attack everyone you have a problem with!" Ian yelled. He was already stomping back, right pass Zaga and Sabel, then stood face to face with the dragon.

The air instantly was intense and thick around the two. They glared each other down, forgetting everyone else in the world.

Riles was the first to recover. "Uh-oh. Ian is on the verge on taking your lover!"

Turdrah growled back at Riles and started to move in on him. Terror moved in to interfere. The feline gasped, not expecting Terror to move against him. Ian also moved in the way, to stop Terror.

"Yo-Yo! We don't need conflict here!" Zaga said pulling off his headphones he pulled up beside Ian and Terror. He started to wedge in between them and pulled Ian along. "C'mon bro. It isn't worth it."

Sabel joined behind Terror and place a hand on the dragon's shoulder. Terror grunted and shrugged off the shoulder, casting a glare to Riles and Turdrah before moving on.

Sabel sighed, looking from each member. "This is going to be quite the mission."
