Almost

I am almost a normal wolf. I don't stand out. I am just a face in the crowd with normal looking blue fur, normal looking blue eyes and a normal looking muzzle.

But there is something special about me. It is that whatever matters I do, the outcome will almost be as expected. Yes, almost.

I had noticed this funny trend ever since young. My grades are almost the average of the school cohort. I almost passed my gym classes (pretty bad physique huh). In competitions, I almost got through to the finals. How odd.

I was submerged my thinking before a loud honking noise woke me from my thoughts.

Oh no. This familiar honk-

NOO!

Rounding about the corner, I can only stand and watch my school bus driving away at a surprising speed, as though it meant to leave me behind from the start.

Aww crap. I almost caught up to the school bus, or at least catching the driver's attention. Why does the bus stop have to be behind the corner?

Without the school bus, it meant walking. Not that the school is far, the school bus is just more convenient. Missing the bus also meant that if I don't walk fast enough, I will be late for school. But somehow, I knew that I will reach the school and my first lesson with me almost early - or in other words, I will be late by just a few seconds.

And as predicted, I almost made it in time. My teacher gave me a stern look as I walked to my seat, before clearing her throat to start the lesson.

"Typh, where have you been? Didn't you take the school bus?" asked Jo.

"I missed the bus... again, and me, being me, will always me just late for lessons when I miss the school bus," I replied.

"Oh stop being pessimistic, it is just coincidence," said Jo.

I was about to retort back before my ears picked up a familiar throat clearing.

"Please pay attention, latecomer, otherwise you will have to serve detention," warned the teacher before resuming her lesson.

The tips of my ears turned slightly pink as the class stared at me, and I could hear a soft snigger emitting from the grey wolf beside me.

Another thing about me is that I have a crazy amount of adrenaline. I turn red when I am angry or just by running around. Even the slightest praise can turn my blue ears pink. Occasionally, my high social phobia can cause my entire muzzle to turn red when I am in crowded areas, or when I somehow become the centre of attraction. The intensity of the blush is as though I downed a whole lot of alcohol. To me, this is so not cool.

During lunch break, Jo and I were talking and munching on our food before something caught my eye, as usual. I was busy staring before Jo started to nudge me with his sly smile that I knew so well.

"Which lucky lady has caught this wolf's eyes eh?" he joked.

"Oh be quiet. I was just spacing out," I said.

"Reaaaallly?" Jo wriggled his eyebrows.

I ignored Jo.

So, who was I staring at? Him, of course. That cute lil' bear that I had a secret crush on for eight months already. He has brown fur, brown eyes, slightly chubby, but packed under that thin fatty layer was all muscle, because he is stronger than he looks, I've personally seen that. I know this crush is silly because I totally had not officially held a conversation with him before, and I have him on my mind already. Oh if only I could cuddle that chocolate-coloured....

Anyway, I guess this means that I am gay. Not that I don't like girls, they are pretty and everything, but I just like guys more... or that my brains are now addled with that bear and had no space for anyone else.

Important thing is, no one knows about this little secret that I kept for quite a while. Not even my best friend Jo. I don't know how he would react. I don't have many friends to begin with, I can't afford to lose him as well. I almost told him, but it is not like I had a boyfriend or anything, so I guess this could wait.

"You're not staring at a guy instead, are you?" Jo said sternly.

I was about to worry before...

"Just kidding!" Jo grinned.

Phew,_ _almost.
