Slayer's Redemption

Chapter 1

Encounter

My Name is Tory, Tory Whells. Well, it used to be. I was 18 years old, 5'11'' with gray eyes and brown hair. However, Lady Luck has a way of making one's life rather, interesting. It all started about 4 years ago, Earth time....

"It's bound to happen some time." Joe told me as we walked home from school.

"No, I highly doubt I'm going to be lucky enough to get a digimon." I replied. We were discussing the fact that over half the people I knew as friends had gotten digimon partners, yet I remained alone.

"Oh, come on, it's just a matter of time. Every one else is getting hooked up..."

"That's just it!" I snapped "Every one has one, which means all the good ones are taken already. I'd be lucky just to get a Wormmon!" I continued complaining like this until I noticed that Joe had stopped walking a few minutes back.

"Joe, what's up?" I asked, concerned as I walked back over to him. He just pointed into the sky. I followed his arm and saw a bright light forming in the air close to us.

Before I knew to react, what looked like a Demidevimon flew through. It floated there for a minute, looking around until it saw me. I then noticed an odd silvery object in one of its claws. This was pointed in my direction and soon began glowing, it was a D-Power digivice! "Aha, I found im, I found im! Come on, grab da human!" It shouted just before two Ogremon came rushing through. They took a second to look around, then headed straight for us.

"Shit! Run!" Joe yelled just before bolting in the opposite direction. I turned and ran as well.

"Move it you knuckle heads! You have any idea what she'll do to us if we don't get im?!" I heard shouted from behind us.

Joe had a good five-foot head start on me and rounded the first corner he came to. I followed him and soon caught up with him. "Dude, what the hell is going on?!" he screamed at me as we ran.

"How the fuck should I know? Where's the DDC when you need them?" and as if on cue, an Aquilamon flew over while some kid ran past us.

"Stay back you two, we'll take care of this!" he shouted. Joe and I stopped to watch the battle from a safe distance.

"Crap! I'm outta here!" the Demidevimon yelled, then disappeared into another portal while the two Ogremon and Aquilamon fought. The battle was rather short lived, as the Ogremon weren't able to handle a flying digimon. After the battle, the Aquilamon landed then devolved into a Hawkmon.

"Wow, that was awesome!" came from Joe.

"Yeah, wonderful." I said sarcastically. My lack of a partner of my own made me rather sour towards tamers. I took the time to examine the guy who just saved our butts. He looked about 15 to me. He was 5'6'' with short black hair. He wore white sneakers, blue jeans, and a red jacket with matching cap.

"Hey, you guys okay?" he asked as he walked over to us, his Hawkmon in toe.

"I'm great after seeing how you pummeled those Ogremon into the cement!" Joe was ecstatic about the battle.

I, however, was rather disappointed. This whole thing just reminded me even more why I wanted a digimon. "I'm fine, thanks for asking."

The boy looked me over, then asked "Either of you know what they wanted?"

I just shook my head.

"No way dude. They just came out of nowhere and started chasing us!" was Joe's reply.

The boy stood in thought for a moment, but lost his focus. "Oh well, they shouldn't be coming back any time soon. See ya!" He turned and ran off, his Hawkmon in toe.

I looked at my watch. "Shit, I'm late for dinner. See you at class, Joe." I waved and ran the rest of the way home.

***

It was a few days later that the next notable thing happened.

I was in my English class and the teacher had just given us our homework. We were to write up reports on "Of Mice and Men". I was about to leave when some one lightly grabbed my shoulder. I looked and a boy with a Patamon on his shoulder regarded me.

"Excuse me, you're Tory, right?"

I slowly nodded.

"Awesome. I was wondering, could you help me out? I'm kinda lost on this one."

I couldn't help but smile. English was one of my better classes, unlike, say, History? "Sure, I don't have anything else to do tonight. Hey, what's your name?"

He shook his head. "Oops, sorry. I'm Brad." He stuck his hand out, and I shook it.

"Hey, can we go now? I'm getting hungry." this came from his Patamon.

We both laughed. "Well then, we better hurry. Don't want him starving to death, now do we?" I joked. He grabbed his stuff and we left.

"Let's go to my place, it's not far from here." Brad suggested. My house was a good few blocks away, so I agreed.

***

We were about half way there when we heard a beeping noise. Brad pulled out his digivice, and I saw the screen flashing. "Crap! There's a por...." that was just before a bright light appeared above us.

I grabbed Brad and threw us both out of the way when a Devidramon dropped to the ground. Brad stood back up while I got further away.

"A Devidramon? What's that thing..." Crash! It had seen me and made a beeline for my location, which was (repeat WAS) behind a tree. I scrambled for a better hiding spot while Brad sent his Patamon into action.

There was another bright light, then another crash as an Angemon tackled the Devidramon into a brick wall. "Run while you can!"

Before I did, I noticed there was something around the Devidramon's neck. It was the silver digivice! The same one the digimon from earlier had.

I ran to where Brad was standing and watched as the battle progressed. Angemon eventually deleted the Devidramon and picked up the digivice it was holding. He looked at it, then held his hand out to me.

"What?" I asked.

He gave me a concerned look. "Is this not yours? I feel a connection between it and you."

I was in shock. I had a digivice? "But, wouldn't that mean...." I looked to where the Devidramon had fallen, but Angemon shook his head.

"No. If it had been him, this would have stopped working." He showed me the display, and it was glowing faintly. "This device still yet functions."

I put my hand out and he dropped the digivice into it.

Brad looked at it. "We can figure this out later, let's get to my place before it gets too late." I nodded and followed behind him and his digimon.

***

By the time we got to his place, we had nearly forgotten about the digivice.

When we got through the front door "Welcome home, honey. You hun..." a woman I guessed to being in her early forties came into view. "Oh my, what happened?"

Brad just shrugged. "Nothin much, just a small delay. Hey, got food for one more?" he asked pulling me to the front to meet his mom.

"Of course. And who might you be?" she asked.

I did a slight bow. "My name is Tory Whells, and I'm helping your son with an English report tonight."

She smiled at my formalness. "Well, Tory, it's nice to have you here tonight. Hopefully my son won't cause you too much trouble. Oh watch the..." Crash! "wings."

Angemon had tried to walking past us and knocked over a small flowerpot with a wing tip.

rad just sighed as his mom went off into the kitchen. "Come on, before you break anything else." Brad said as he grabbed his Angemon's arm and pulled him further into the house.

I followed them into Brad's room. "Okay, lets get started on that report!" I said, rubbing my hands together.

***

Three hours and a good meal later, we had finished his report.

"Alright, that should do it. Hey, thanks again, Tory." Brad shook my hand one last time before I started packing up my books.

"No problem, always willing to help the less fortunate." We all laughed for a second.

"Hey, still got that digivice?" he asked.

I rifled through my pockets and pulled it out. After handing it to him, Brad went over to his computer desk and plugged the digivice into a USB port on his computer.

"Okay, lets see if we can't find your partner."

Angemon and I both stood behind him watching as the screen faded black, then text started appearing. [THE DARK FLOWER SHALL GROW ITS THORNS WHEN THE FOXES LEASH IS BROKEN] then the computer shut off.

Brad looked back at me. "That mean anything to you?"

I just shook my head. "No clue man."

He tried turning his computer back on. "Damn, thing fried again. Angemon, go get the spare parts box." Angemon left the room while we continued trying to fix his computer.

I took a glance at the clock; it read 8:32 PM. "Damn, I hate to leave like this, but I gotta go. See ya at class tomorrow?"

Brad waved an affirmative, so I left.

"See you later Ms Thomas." I said as I walked through the living room past her. She waved and smiled.

"Come visit any time you wish."

***

About 30 minutes later, I had just walked through the front door.

"Where the hell were you!?" came from the hall. I watched as my mother appeared with a very concerned look on her face.

"At a friends house helping him study." I said in my defense.

She held her hips and shook her head. "I wish you had sent me a message or something. Not knowing where you were or what had happened to you. For all I knew, a wild digimon could have killed you."

I sighed, this happened every time I was late coming home. I didn't have a curfew, just an over protective mother. "Look, I'm fine, nothing tried to...." I was going to say 'eat me', but that wasn't true. Several things have tried to get me lately, and this had me worried.

She noticed my hesitation. "What? Something wrong?"

Snapping back to attention; I just shook my head. "No mom, every thing's fine. I'm...going to my room now." I walked passed her into my room.

There wasn't a whole lot to my room; a bed, dresser, computer desk, and a closet. I had a few posters on the walls from recent movies, but that's all the decoration I had.

I walked over to my computer and, after turning it on, plugged the D-power into a USB port. I opened up the new drive icon in the 'my computer' folder, and the screen went black like before. [THE DARK FLOWER SHALL GROW ITS THORNS WHEN THE FOXES LEASH IS BROKEN] appeared again, then the screen went blank.

However, instead of my computer shutting off, more text appeared. [FOUND YOU] Then it shut off as a bright light formed in the space behind me. I turned just in time to see a Stingmon appear in front of me, kneeling.

"I have found you." He said as he stood.

I couldn't believe it, a Stingmon was in my room!

"Come, we do not have much time." He said offering his hand.

"Huh?" was my dumb response.

"We must go to the digital world, she needs us." He said.

I was too excited to ask who 'she' was. He was my digimon, I finally had my digimon! I just grabbed the D-power and walked over to him. He picked me up and jumped back into the portal.

***

On the other side, I was a little disoriented from the transfer.

Stingmon put me down just as I started seeing straight. "Where are we?" I asked as I looked around the room.

I become aware of two things. 1; we're in the main hall of a castle, and 2; we're surrounded by very nasty looking digimon.

"You, my dear, are in my castle." I looked to the source just as the digimon began to part, showing a blue skinned woman in a flowing purple dress with black wings sitting on a throne.

"Who is she?" I asked my Stingmon, only to realize he wasn't there any more. I look around and soon saw him kneeling before the woman. "Hey! What's going on here?"

I watched as Stingmon handed her my digivice. "Hey, I'm talking to...." Slap! I was thrown to the ground as something smacked me to the floor. As I looked up, I saw the woman standing above me. "Who are you?"

"I am Lilithmon, and you belong to me now, human." I stood and tried to punch her, but she batted it away and grabbed my throat with her left hand.

"Give...me back...my digivice!" I gasped as I tried to pull free of her cold grip.

She looked from me to the digivice and shrugged. "Okay." There was a wet cracking sound, then I felt a cold pain in my chest. I looked down and saw that her right hand, which had the digivice, was now embedded in my chest. She slowly removed her hand, now covered in my blood.

I couldn't help but notice that the digivice was no longer in her grasp. I slumped to the ground then fell face first onto the cold stone floor.

For the few seconds I remained alive, I heard nothing but inhuman laughter, and the sound of high-heeled shoes walking away. Then everything faded into silent oblivion.
