The Love they Shared Part 4

October 8, 2010

The days following the incident were very interesting for Frank. When he arrived the next day at school, what happened to John was the "secret" talk of the students. Frank could not help but wonder what was going to happen to him and Aaron. John new Frank had watched the figure reduce him to a bloody mess, and Frank knew the figure was Aaron. It would be his worst fear to have the police come down on him because he was a witness to a crime. He thought long about the possible outcomes, but he remembered Aaron had threatened John in silence, so he should be alright. As Frank was walking to his homeroom, he noticed Aaron waiting outside the door for him. Aaron looked up and signaled Frank to "Come here".

"Frank, just act normal today like you were not there O.K.?" He continued "Someone found John last night around the time we were at that peak so we should be in the clear for alibis. Also, John's in the hospital, he's got some bad muscle damage to his knees, maybe permanent..." Aaron's eyes drifted to the floor and a wave of guilt spread across his face. Frank did not know how to respond so put a paw on Aarons shoulder and gave him a deep reassuring look.

"Thank you for being here and helping me with this mess..." Franks heart melted as he looked deep into Aaron's compassionate eyes.

"Lets get to class before were late, shall we?" With that, the two furs went off to yet another dull day of school. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When lunch rolled around, Frank was surprised to see Aaron already at the table. He seemed a bit anxious and maybe nervous about something.

"Hey Aaron, you look pale are you alright?" He just looked up and stared into the husky's blue green eyes and gave a hesitant nod.

"I-I'm just going to apologize to your friends. I... I hope they forgive me"

He didn't think about it much, but Frank realized that more than just what Aaron told him went down between his friends and Aaron. It was another fear of his, Aaron and his friends not getting along. Frank felt a little pale him self.

Frank saw CJ and Chelsea coming over to the table. They stopped about three feet away from the table, CJ blankly staring and Chelsea looking sad staring at Aaron's head which was looking down and the small wooden brown table. When he looked up, the couple went from their expressions to a shared confused one. Aaron had a very mournful expression on his face that even Frank seemed bothered by.

"I..." He sat for a few seconds to clear his throat. "I'm really, really sorry about what happened yesterday. About hurting you two. I mean... I was not right for me to do...that..." Frank could hear in his voice that Aaron was almost guessing about what happened without trying to bring up having a mental blackout, which would sound unbelievable. "I'm sorry about hurting your arm CJ, is...is it O.K? I mean... if you don't accept my apology it's understandable, but I just want to let you know..." Chelsea cut him off by putting her paw across his folded ones. She had a friendly smile across her face.

"Aaron, yesterday I wasn't crying because you hurt me emotionally, I was crying because you were one hundred percent right in what you said." Aaron's brow was slightly raised in a mixture of surprise and confusion.

"Really? I..." She filled in the rest.

"I know you feel bad about twisting CJ's arm and for upsetting me, but I think both me and CJ needed it. You were right." She turned to face both Frank and Aaron at the same time.

"What you did for Frank yesterday was more than anything me and CJ have done for him in a long time." She winked at both of them. "We know it was you who put John in the hospital. After what you said and him winding up in the hospital later that day, it had to be you." Aaron looked panicked and Chelsea noticed this. "You don't have to tell us what happened; we... do not want to know. Just know that your secret is safe among friends." Aaron looked like he could cry, but before emotions got tense CJ held out a paw. Aaron sat for a minute taking in everything that had just happened. He now had friends, people who respected and cared for his well being. I was too good to be true. He stuck out his paw and shook CJ's.

"Well then" CJ started. "You really need to show me how you put me in that arm hold sometime because that was pretty badass." He chuckled. They both chuckled. They all chuckled. It was for the first time, that a friendship had blossomed between all four furs at that table that day...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The days seemed to roll by with ease for the rest of that school year. Holidays were spent with friends. Halloween, Christmas, New Years and all the way into the summer the group of friends became inseparable. John came back to school in the beginning of November. He could never walk as well or run as well as he used to be able to, but he was happy to be walking at all. John never mentioned Frank, probably out of fear of the hooded figure and for his life. As Frank suspected, he kept his mouth shut too. He never said a word to everybody, not a single goddamn word about his "attack". The police questioned him but with him remaining closed up about the incident and there being no witnesses or evidence, they gave up the search around Christmas time. When ever he saw Frank anywhere he would spin around and go the other way, never bothering him or anyone ever again. Life seemed to be looking up for both the husky and the lion having found a deep friendship in each other. As the summer months rolled on, the two found themselves hanging out more and more often, playing their instruments together and finding simple summer things to do for fun. In mid August CJ and Chelsea had to leave for 2 weeks to go to a college summer camp program at Drexel University. This left Frank and Aaron alone to find out something to do while waiting for them to get back...
August 16, 2011
Frank straightened up his appearance as he always did before he went out in public. Clean, but disshelved looking, he went out to meet his friend. He stood out in the cool temperature of the late afternoon waiting for that gold ford focus to roll around the corner onto his street. The golden orange sun was slowly creeping toward its destination at the horizon. Frank stood with only thoughts of the upcoming night approaching his mind. Before he was sucked off into a day dream he heard the shuffling of tires against paved road and looked toward the end of his drive way. A small sedan rolled down its window to reveal a sun glassed Aaron smiling through the passenger side window. He flipped down his glasses onto the bridge of his snout and gave a smug smirk.
"Are you gonna stand and stare at me or are you gonna get in?"
Frank could feel a blush coming on, but quickly laughed to cover his embarrassment. He climbed into the car and instantly wafted Aaron's clean scent. The smell drove shivers up his spine. It was intoxicating. Frank pushed those feelings out of his head and focused on their destination. "So, up to the usual spot?"
Aaron looked over gave another smug smile
"You bet."
The car rolled off to a quiet start and progressed down the quiet suburban roads and onto the busy stretch of normal 2 lane roads.
Summer Peak had become a popular place for the duo to go when CJ and Chelsea were not around. The peak was seen as lover's place by most who go there and that's why they never brought CJ and Chelsea along. Frank and Aaron were not there for romance. They were there to relax, eat food, watch the sun go down and look at the stars at night. CJ and Chelsea would only create a romance atmosphere.
As the car crept down the road, Frank let himself slip away into thought. He knew that a friendly bonding atmosphere is what Aaron wants and he wants to make Aaron happy, but...deep down... Frank lusted for a loving relationship and it was eating him alive everyday and every minute he withheld his true feelings.
The car suddenly slowed to a halt.
"Wana grab food from Wawa to bring up there with us?" With those words Frank came out of his day dream and back to his current situation.
"What? Uh... yeah sounds good."
Just then Aaron's stomach gave off a very loud growl and he placed a paw over it. "Mmmm...I could really go for an Italian Hoagie." They began to laugh at his comment as they walked into the convince store and grabbed some sandwiches.
It was around 7:00pm and the sun was almost behind the rolling hills of the small town. They pulled the car to a stop at the crest of the peak and climbed out to sit on the hood of the sedan. They made a small spot in the center of the hood for their food and let their hind paws dangle inches above the lush green grass.
There were only two other cars on the far side of the peak. Aaron and Frank pulled the car under a plum tree nearby and began to enjoy their picnic as the sun faded behind the horizon and pristine blue moon began to take its place in the calm night sky. Frank took a bite of his hoagie and looked over at Aaron. The cool summer air was blowing his long brown hair behind him and his eyes glowed with the reflection of the moons light. Frank felt his chest tighten in envy as he looked from Aaron to the moon. Aaron leaned over and reached into the car through the driver side window and turned on the CD player. A small chorus of violins began to play and Frank recognized the intro of the song.
"And it starts, sometime around midnight. At least that's when you lose your self for a minute of two..." Frank quietly sang the lyrics to Some Time Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event. Aaron heard the quiet singing and was surprised.
"You have a very clean tone to your singing, it sounds wonderful."
Frank immediately began to blushed and smile.
"Thank you, I sing along to most songs when I play guitar, so I guess I picked up singing too."
Aaron had his famous little curve in his lip that was his smug smile.
"I thought you only played deathcore. Does that mean you practice singing growling noises?" He began to laugh.
Frank began flustered.
"Screw you; you know I can play acoustic songs too." He playfully punched his buddies arm as he spoke.
The two sat and ate their dinner while listening to the soft music floating out of the car speakers and joking about franks musical tastes.
Soon, a gap of silence came into the conversation. Frank decided that now would be a good time to explain why he was really there.
After taking a large sip of his Coke, Frank spoke in a quiet voice,
"Hey Aaron?"
Aaron took the last bite out of his hoagie a peered up at Frank.
"Yeah Frank?"
"Um...today's kind of my birthday..." The husky scratched his head in discomfort as he spoke. Aaron on the other paw looked a bit shocked, but soon gave his friend a friendly slap on the back.
"Well happy birthday mate! Why didn't you tell me earlier, I would have got you a gift?"
Frank looked down sheepishly.
"I had my family over today before you got me."
"Well, what did you get?"
Frank went on to list the presents he received, a new effects pedal for his guitar, new shoes, money and what ever else a 17 year old musician could ask for on his birthday.
There was a short pause in the conversation after Frank finished. Only the chirping of crickets and the rustle of the grass in the light breeze could be heard. Aaron cut the silence short. Aaron spoke bluntly.
"Well?"
Frank looked confused.
"Well what?"
"You didn't answer my first question."
Frank looked down at his feet, feeling the heat rising in his face. His heart began to beat faster and faster. "This is it." He thought to himself. "I have to tell him now or I will never be able to." Frank looked up and looked Aaron square in the eye. He spoke in a very soft level tone.
"I didn't tell you it was my birthday because...this was all I wanted from you."
Aaron looked very perplexed.
"What like you just wanted to chill up here with me?" He asked with slight caution. He stretched out along the hood of the vehicle and placed his paws behind his head. "That's cool and all I guess but I still want t get you something proper." Frank knew there was no turning back now, he pressed forward.
"No...I mean...I." He fumbled over his words. He shook his head and straightened up.
"Aaron, since the day I laid eyes on you I knew I liked you."
Aaron sat up upon hearing this and seemed more baffled.
"O.K... you seemed nice too..."
"No! I mean I REALLY like you, like more than friends like..."
He let his word trail off and let them sink into Aarons mind. Franks insides were screaming for Aaron to say it was O.K. that's all frank wanted, an O.K. He had just said how he truly felt out loud with out going over the top about it. Aaron just sat there wide eyed. He turned his head away from Frank and just looked off into the distance just as Plush by Stone Temple Pilots came on the speaker. The soft rock guitar chords filled the air between the two furs as the silence progressed. Aarons face looked almost sad as it stared into the dimly lit town sky.
Half the song passed and frank started to get worried.
"Umm..." he started to speak but was cut off.
The words that came out of Aarons muzzle next sounded very off, emotionless, flat... angry to Frank.
"You're saying you love me."
Frank nodded slowly.
"Aaron... are you o.k.?" he reached a steady paw toward Aarons shoulder, but he smacked it down, hard. Frank grasped his hurt paw and slid almost to the edge of the hood frightened. "Something's wrong, that look...That's not him...oh shit." Frank's thoughts became frantic.
Aaron sprung to his feet, wrapped his paws around Frank's hoodie and threw the husky off the car into the base of the plum tree shaking the braches with a low thud. Frank felt his head and back make painful contact with the tree, but he was too terrified to react or even say anything. Aaron stormed over and got into the face of the husky. He seemed angry, but Frank saw something else in his eyes. Despair.
"Stay the HELL away from me! What the hell are you doing!? What are you thinking!? What am I thinking!? All the staring and shyness was because you loved me!? "Uh..." He clenched his head. "You did love me, but you lied! You lied to my face after I saved your ass! In the locker room you were staring at my ass! You...you used me!!" There was hurt all over Aaron's face, but his emotions seemed broken and not all there, like he wasn't sure what he was saying. Frank on the other hand had tears leaking from his eyes in a mixture of shame and terror.
"You don't know what I like...I mean what I'm like...Damn it! I... uh..."
Aaron went from angry to looking dazed and almost sick in about half a second. He put his hands to his head and moaned slightly. When he removed them from his head he looked down at the trembling ball of fur that was his friend.
"Did I just say all...?" He looked like he was having a panic attack. Aaron started to hyper ventilate and stumbled backward, his yellow-green eyes stricken with fear and confusion. He bolted for his car door, slid in and floored in reverse. He 180'd the car and gunned it with the tires sliding out on the dirt and raced down the narrow dirt road.
Frank just sat there now with all the tears he could possible make running down his face. He felt his chest lurk and then he was over taken by his misery. He just blew everything he achieved throughout the whole year in less than 4 sentences. He began to violently sob clutching his chest for air. He felt like the world was closing in on him and he began to feel extremely nauseas. He sobs became choked and with a jerk of his gut, he spilt its contents all over the fine dirt of the road. He placed his hands on the ground and dry heaved up the rest of the contents of his stomach before his tired frame gave out and he crumpled into darkness.
***
It was 10:15 pm when Frank came around. He could smell the stale vomit that lay next to his muzzle and groaned. He rolled over onto his back and looked up at the black night sky dazed and exhausted. The memories of a few hours past came rushing back to him and he wanted to break down again. He knew however, right now was not the time to have another breakdown. He looked at the time on his phone and gasped. I was really pretty damn late. He needed to start walking home now if he wanted to be home by his 11:30 curfew. He scrambled to his feet, wiped the dirt and vomit from his muzzle and clothes and began to jog. His whole body felt heavy and miserable from the vomiting. It sapped his energy out of him. To help out with the running and to keep his mind occupied, he took out his ipod and put in his headphones. He cursed his himself verbally and the remorse of his words ate at him the whole jog home.
Frank walked into his house at 11:35, muttered a "Sorry I'm late" to his mother and shot up to his room. He did it in one swift motion to hide his tear stained face and foul smelling clothes. He stripped his clothes, cleaned up his face and climbed into his soft fluffy heaven that was his bed. He spent many nights crying his self to sleep on this bed and this night ended no differently.
August 17, 2011
It was Monday when Frank awoke and, having no work on Monday, Frank had the whole house to him self. His usual routine was miserable for him today however. His shower was full of feelings of regret. His breakfast was the same. Thoughts about last night and Aaron's distraught and angry face haunted his every move.
"Why can't I stop thinking about him!? I have to call him; I have to just speak to him and make things right."
Frank reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone and called Aaron, nothing. He called again, still nothing. He called three more times, just an answering machine. Frank was now torn inside. Aaron was the one thing he loved and now he had zero chance of being with him. H threw his phone across the room and flew up the stairs full of self loathing anger. He turned on his Ipod dock and turned the volume up to max. He locked his door and turned on Waging Wars by Bermuda. His neighbor would have to suck it up. He sat on his bed with his head in his hands weeping. The song soon made all his sorrow compile into rage. Soon the heavy ass breakdown that Frank loved so much came on and he lost it. It was pure hate for himself, of being stupid enough to ruin a strong friendship with his romantic feelings towards his friend. He stood up, ripped open his closet door and began punching the back wall of the closet as hard as he could. He took out all his rage, his pain and his sorrow on that wall. He punched the wall until the end of the song. When it ended he looked at the hole he had created, going all the way through the dry wall to the insulation. He looked down at his right hand, his knuckles swollen and bleeding profusely. With his violent episode concluded, he flung himself onto his bed and just lay there, with all his emotions expelled through his fists. And for the first time in long time, he just felt like being alone.
August 24, 2011
A whole week passed by since Frank told his secret to Aaron. Chelsea and CJ were still away for another week. Frank had spent the whole week either up in his room playing guitar or filing paper work at his job. He called Aaron once a day, but he began to give up hope and stopped calling altogether. It was late on Sunday night and Frank was in desperate need of some fresh air. He grabbed his hoodie and began to walk. As he walked, his mind wandered aimlessly, trying to think about his senior year of school and what he was going to do for college. He just wanted to keep walking and walking, the cool summer night air soothing his feelings. He did not realize how far he had walked until he saw the sign that said Summer Peak. Surprised, he walked over to the tree that he favored so much. The memories hit him again, but he did not even react, his depression keeping him from feeling his emotions. He just sat under the purple leaved tree and looked across the city in its glowing beauty.
About 40 minutes passed when Frank heard a car begin to pull up the road. There was no one here tonight, and Frank did not want to be seen up here alone. He slid over behind the tree facing the cliff, hidden from any cars lines of sight. As he continued to look out into the night sky, he put in his Ipod and put on a chill song, one that would not make him upset. "Africa from Toto seems like a good one for a night like this." He chucked as he softly sang along.
Having his music playing loud, he did not hear the car park under the tree, or hear the driver climb out sit under the other side of the tree and cry softly. It was only when he got into his song and began to sing quiet loudly did he hear paws shuffle and a familiar sent drifted around the side of the tree. Frank shot up to his feet instantly.
"Aaron!?"
He saw the lion, face stained with tears about to climb into his car.
"Wait Aaron please don't leave!" Aaron froze.
"I...I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" Frank felt tears fill in his eyes again. "I never wanted to come on that strong and surprise you. I never wanted to make you feel uncomfortable, or make you react the way you did. You have every right to be furious at me, but I will never feel that way towards you. I blame myself not you, your actions were justified!" Frank was in full melt down and he sunk to his knees and had his arms limp at his sides. Aaron began to cry too. He marched over towards Frank and pulled him off the ground. Frank saw anger in his eyes.
"Why? WHY!? How can you blame yourself, how can you be so forgiving!? I hurt you Frank, physically and mentally and you blame yourself!? My actions were not JUSTIFIED! I lost control that night, I watched that happen, but I don't know why. I didn't blackout, I just lost it for so reason! How can you still look at me and say you're to blame!? I'm an emotional time bomb waiting to go off! I too dangerous to be around! How can you still be so forgiving!?!"
Frank looked shocked, but he took in every word he said. He only had one way to respond to Aaron's question...
"Because Aaron...I love you."
Aaron stood there and let the words sink in as silence filled the cool air. Aaron let his head hang low in deep shame, and thought long and hard. Soon a small smile slid across his muzzle. Suddenly, he through his head up grabbed Franks head and pressed their lips together in a tight kiss.
Frank was star struck; his eyes went from startled and wide to closed and full of enjoyment in seconds. He could taste Aaron's wonderful scent on his soft, warm lips and he felt his equally warm tongue caress the inside of his mouth. He returned the favor. The kiss lasted for what Frank thought was an eternity and he loved every minute of it. Only when Aaron pulled back and broke the kiss did he have the time to process what just happened.
"Wow...you just...I thought...wow...just wow..." Frank was beside himself.
Aaron began to speak, "I thought about how I reacted over the whole week...and realized that... I love you too." Frank could not help be smile. He began to explain himself to his lover,
"Aaron, I do not care that your emotions are out of check. You suppress "It" when you're happy and that's the Aaron I know. That Aaron is strong and brave and funny and... stable. You must not give in to your hate, just let it go. "It" hurt me that night, not you, not the Aaron I know. The Aaron I know would never do such a thing on purpose. That's why I blamed myself; I was the one who brought it out of you. You could do nothing to stop it." Frank pulled Aaron into a tight embrace. Aaron spoke with a soft voice.
"I think now...I know how to control it...happiness. That's why I could see what I was doing, I knew deep down that I loved you too, but I just didn't want to accept it. My mind was fighting me the whole time... and I snapped. When I saw what I did to you I panicked and got out of there before I hurt you even more." Aaron began stroking Franks soft hair. "I didn't answer my phone, or try to make contact because I did not want to hurt you. I've been coming up here every night to try and find peace with myself, but I could not. Not after seeing the hurt in your face."
Frank looked touched; Aaron really did care for him after all.
"Aaron, when did you realize you loved me back?" Frank asked shyly.
Aaron gave his small smirk.
"Since the moment you looked at my ass in the locker room."
He pulled Frank into another deep kiss, before Frank broke it off this time. Still in his embrace, Frank cleared his throat.
"Aaron, do you want to be my boyfriend?"
Aaron gave a gleeful smile.
"Yes, I would like that very much."
They walked to the tree again and sat to look up at the stars. They just sat in each others embrace for a while before Aaron spoke.
"Um one thing, how will we explain this to the others, and our parents?"
Frank thought to himself for a second, "So Aaron's parents didn't know he's gay either, nor anybody else in school." He spoke quietly in Aarons short, soft ear,
"This could get interesting..."
