Dyno woke up slowly, the groginess of sleep lingering. He looked down at his round belly, much smaller than when he started his journey, but still there. He got out of bed, looking for the black cargo pants he discarded before falling into bed.

He found the pants by the foot of his motel bed, as he started to pick them up he began to look around his room. The old wallpaper was peeling off, the T.V. was so old it still used a cathode ray tube, and the wooden T.V. stand was warped in one leg, causing it to lean forward a bit.

Before he could actually put on his pants, he noticed the door to the hallway ajar. Dyno dropped the pants and reached for his knife under the mattress of the bed. If the intruder wasn't in sight, he was either in the small closet, or the bathroom.

Dyno put his hand on the doorknob. After readying himself,_ he opend the door quickly, but without slamming it. The bathroom was empty. _The only person who could fit in that closet would be a kid... thought Dyno.

He turned to the mirror on the wall next to the door. He ran his eyes over his left calf, looking at a scar you can barely see under his fur. When did these briefs get so tight? he asked himself, noticing how much muscle he's gained . He probably could use some new clothes. He glanced over his belly and chest, and saw the spot were bone poked through flesh on his right forearm. You could see his scars if you looked hard enough, although his fur does a good job of covering scars, despite its short length.

He snapped himself out of his nostalgia, he still has an unwelcome guest to take care of. After he moved out of the bathroom, Dyno decided to put his pants on, the intruder not likely to try to see him and take advantage of the moment.

He moved out to the bathroom, positioning himself advantageously. He readied the knife, and threw open the door.

The boy yipped in surprize, and fear, as the door flew open. The sight of a large bear with a 6-inch knife caused the boy to visibly tremble. The kid was five feet tall, and looked to be twelve or thirteen years old. His clothes barely hung on his body, but the kid looked well-fed. He was an American Foxhound, too, which don't handle cold, snowy climates well. Finding any at all this deep into Russia is rare.

Dyno put the knife on the bed behind him, then he gently picked the boy up and placed him on the bed.

"You havn't been a thief for very long, have you?" Dyno asked with a steel voice. The boy meekly shaking his head 'no'.

Dyno sighed, and said, softening his voice, "C'mon, kid. I'm not gonna hurt 'ya. Now tell me, what's your name?"

"Billy, sir." The kid squeaked.

"Alright, how does a boy like you end up stealing from bad people like me?" Dyno asked.

"Well, my parents came here to escape the Sickness. The cold was gunna slow it down, but it still got them." the boy said, "I got kicked out of my house, and didn't know what else to do..."

Dyno saw tears starting to form in the boy's eyes. He sat down next to Billy and patted him on his the head. Billy reminded Dyno of his own son, and he couldn't bear to see him like this. On the streets of this Siberian ghetto, this kid wouldn't last long...

"Listen, Billy. I'm on a dangerous mission-"

"A mission?!?" Billy interupted, his eyes brightening.

"Yes, a mission. I really don't have too much money, but maybe you could come alo-"

"Really?!? You mean it?!?" Billy was ecstatic.

"Just until we can find a place to put you, permanantly. A kid shouldn't be following a guy like me, you'll just end up hurt, but at least you'll have a fighting chance with me."

"Don't worry! I won't get in your way!" Bily said, assuredly.

"Well, then I've got to get dressed, and packed. We're headed to Moscow." Dyno said, pulling his duffle bag from under the bed.

"So... How're we gonna get there?" Billy asked, watching Dyno put his sholder gun harness on .

"First, we have to get a bus out of here. The fare's expensive, so we won't be able to go all the way. There are a few hub towns nearby where I can get a job as a caravan guard. If we get lucky, they'll supply a weapon and let me keep it as payment. Once we're in Moscow, we'll have to work for an information broker. I need information, but it's expensive, and we don't have that kind of money." Dyno explained. "We'll also need to get you some new clothes. I need you to fit in, not to mention the fact you look like you're about to freeze to death."

Billy's eyes lit up again,"New clothes?!? This is great! I can't wait! You're the best Mr.... uh..."

"Call me Dyno, kid."

"Ok, Mr. Dyno!"

"Heh, just Dyno, alright?"

"Oh, ok."

The bus ride took them several hours, and just as Dyno hoped, a caravan in need of one-way guards was headed to Moscow. Dyno, trying his best, couldn't convince the caravan leader to let him keep his issued AK-47.

"If you want this job, you'll take what we offer! I don't haggle with idiot mercs, now get outa my face!" yelled the caravan leader, shooing Dyno away.

"That guy was loud!" Billy commented as Dyno got close.

"You could hear him from over here?" Dyno asked, mildly surprised.

"He was really loud. Too bad about the gun, but at least we have free passage to Moscow!" Billy said, endlessly optimistic.

"Yeah, I guess we can't get everything we want. C'mon, they're not leaving until tomorrow. Let's get you those clothes and find a place to stay."

The next morning, Billy threw his duffle bag of new clothes next to Dyno's bag in the back of the Humvee.

"This is so exciting! I've never been on an adventure before!" Billy said, his voice betraying his nervousness.

"Well, let's just hope this trip is as boring as possible," Dyno said, checking the feed on his issued AK.

A few hours went by. "Half way there. Stay sharp," the caravan leader said through the radio.

"Yeah, yeah," the driver of the Humvee replied through the radio, "Nothin' eva happens on dees-" Suddenly, the jeep in front of them exploded, interupting the driver and causing what Dyno could've sworn was a small earthquake.

"Billy! Get down!" Dyno yelled, sticking his upper body, with his AK, out the window, trying to get a view on the highjackers.

An explosion was the last thing Dyno heard as the world went black.
