Of all the things that David expected on this very weird day he never would have thought of seeing Derrick here on his father's ranch in wolf form. The big werewolf was huffing up a storm as he tried to catch his breath from his long. David looked down with wide blue eyes before bending to his friend and calling out to him...

"Derrick?! What are you doing out here?!" David knew the answer in the pit of his belly but the incredulousness of it still stunned the silver headed were

When Derrick slowly caught enough air within his tired lungs the brown werewolf slowly shifted to his human form. Now the two teenagers stood naked in the middle of a large field of grass with only three dogs staring at them. It looked like a picture out of one of those magazines that a person could find in the back of the store with a cover over them. While erotic and sensual the whole scene had a tastefulness abut it that could only come from the most talented of photographers and directors. But this was not one of those times and soon David found himself on his back with a very angry teen over him snarling in his face.

"Who is it?! Who the hell are these weres that your leaving us for?!" Derrick, in his anger, tackled his silver haired friend and growled at him without fully knowing the danger he was placing himself in

Just as David was about to say something three large figures wrestled the tired boy from atop of the silver headed teen. Derrick was dazed for a moment at the force of the blow but soon reorganized himself and found three pairs of pearl white fangs glistening in his face. Enraged that he had been attacked by a group of over sized canines the werewolf snarled and batted them away with the strength he had left in his body thinking that that was all it would take and then he could change and scare them away. Only the youth had guessed wrong and his hand was caught in the lead dog's mouth and a crushing hold was placed over the were's appendage with more and more pressure being asserted with every breath he took.

Derrick howled and tried to claw his hand from the dog's muzzle when his other hand was taken in firm jaws and held with equal force. The last dog went up and clamped its fangs around the youth's neck in a strangled hold and was biting down with ensuing pressure to show just how serious the situation was to the young man when David called out.

"Daniel! Sam! Max! Please let him up this is my friend! He didn't mean any harm!" David pleaded with his packmates as he realized that the three weredog's ached to tear the presumptuous werewolf of his limbs and his life

The three dogs held still for a moment and then Sam and Max looked to Daniel. The Doberman growled and soon his two betas backed of and away to stand before David. The two wouldn't let their younger packmate within another inch of the unknown were and just held their place before him like sentinels. Daniel, meanwhile, looked down at the were whose hand he held and deep into his eyes. It was taking all that he was just not to rip the pups hand from his body for daring to touch one of his betas but at the begging tone from the silver werewolf he decided to show mercy...for now at least.

Pulling back Daniel watched the young werewolf's hand bleed from where his teeth had pressed a little too deeply and the licked his tongue across his face to get the few drops of life fluid that had dripped from his dark lips. Standing and then going over to David, Daniel shifted up to his weredog form and then grabbed onto David with his thick furred arms and wrapped his beta in his embrace before looking at Derrick.

"Um...Derrick. This is the pack that I am part of. Daniel is the alpha and Sam, Max, and myself are his betas." David said quietly but without faltering in his words as he leaned back into the welcoming grip of his alpha

The young werewolf looked at the silver headed male and then the three others before he gazed at his hand and then licked the flowing blood up. A look of pure hate raged in the werewolf's eyes as he stared at the three and Daniel returned the fierce and disrespectful look with his own while baring his fangs. It was David who rubbed on his alpha's arm and calmed the bigger were while looking at his friend and silently wishing him to back down.

Derrick refused to turn away and when his hand had healed itself he rose from the ground on tired legs.

"So you ran off with these mongrels instead of staying with us back in the city? Why in the hell...?" Derrick had a torrent of emotions bubbling in his heart and mind but the primary ones where jealousy and anger. Both dark and twisted feelings vied for his attention and taunted him as he watched his best friend in the hold of the towering weredog

"It's a long story..." David said while hoping that he would never have to relay the things that had happened to anyone ever in his life, not even his parents

"Well I've got all the time in the world so tell me!" Derrick yelled causing the other werewolf to cringe and huddle back into the arms of the beast behind him

The three weredogs had their hackles raised at the fear in their newest pack member and were growling at the interloper with murder in their eyes. One bark from Daniel was all it would take and there wouldn't even be pieces left of the other werewolf. They would make sure to gnaw on his bones and fill themselves on his flesh and blood before crapping him back out onto the dirt in a manner of days.

"All of you just stop it! Derrick this is my pack now and if you fight one of us you fight all of us!" David stomped on the fear in his soul and forced out some of his own anger if only to keep the Daniel, Sam, and Max pacified enough not to kill his friend

Derrick seemed to look at David with amazement and a little bit of sadness before growling and slumping himself down onto the ground. The others took this as a sign that the other were would show respect to them if it not being because he was fearful of his own life. Daniel and the other two weredogs understood now just how much of a wolf David really was and hoe h could easily be an alpha had they not claimed him. The silver werewolf was dominant when he had to be and took charge while never having to resort to violence. It was a rare trait for their species and one that would probably come in handy in the future.

"Derrick, listen to me very carefully. When I first came here I didn't know that these three were actually weres. I thought that they were regular dogs but I found out later that they were werwdogs living with my father. They made me part of their pack after they save me from almost killing a pair of dogs just a few days ago. It was only today that Daniel placed a claiming mark on me that signified that I would now and forever be apart of this pack. So please understand that this wasn't something I had been hiding from you for weeks or even years. It all happened so fast that I'm just now coming to grips with everything. But one thing is clear...I am one of them and will always be." David said while petting onto the muzzles of Sam and Max as both canines strolled over within his reach and nuzzled into the rich fur of their alpha

Derrick looked at the three of them and then bowed his head. David wanted to go over to his friend and comfort him but Daniel refused to release the silver werewolf. Emotions sparked over the land between the five of the weres in the field and the Doberman was wise enough to know that one move and blood would cover the green earth. He admired and adored his beta's love for his friend but he would never let another have the boy. He wouldn't even allow the other werewolf to have a faint hope of taking the boy away from them.

"So you're saying that you're part of this pack and that you will never leave them, is that right?" Derrick asked while keeping his face overshadowed

"Yes." David knew that he had to make this plain to his friend and choose to be as direct as possible

"So if I beat this alpha then I'll become the leader and you will belong to me?" Derrick looked up at Daniel and then David while smirking

David was gob smacked at what he was hearing but could only nod before he felt tremors rock Daniel's body. At first the silver haired teenager thought his alpha was growling again but when he looked up David was surprised to see that Daniel was chuckling. It was very strange to see such a large and imposing creature like Daniel laughing but it made David realize just how much the weredog understood human emotions and gestures. A laugh is the symbol of humor that humans enact when they find something funny or incredulous and now Daniel was showing such disbelief at Derrick's challenge.

Daniel couldn't help but chuckle as he listened to what the pup dared to issue before him. A challenge for leadership of his pack! Incredible! Daniel hadn't even hit his prime yet and was just entering into his early twenties by human count and maybe two or three years in dog years and this...fledgling werewolf had the audacity to challenge him! It was too much and soon Daniel was howling in mirth.

Derrick wasn't so happy about the situation and growling out while slowly changing his form into that of a large brown furred wolf.

"Stop it Derrick! Daniel, give him a break please." David asked both his friend and alpha before they went at each other now

In his condition Derrick would lose without so much a chance and David didn't want that to happen. Honestly he just wished that all of this was some warped nightmare that he was having and it would still be Saturday morning when he awoke. However, reality wasn't so kind and soon the severity of the situation dropped onto David with the force of a ton of bricks. His best friend had just challenged his alpha in order to take him for his own. It was sweet in a freaky and disturbing type of way but now David had to defuse this problem before it got out of hand anymore than it already had.

There was no way to take back the challenge once it had been made and David knew that he would never forgive himself if Derrick lost on the count of him being too exhausted. The rules of the fight were simple: one were would have to submit to the other or one were had to be killed in battle. Whoever won had the right to do what he pleased with the loser's life and if Daniel won the silver headed teen could guess what was in store for Derrick.

"Derrick, you have just challenged Daniel for the right to lead our pack. By were's law the battle should begin now and both of you should be at each other's throats but the fight will take place tomorrow afternoon in the forest near here." David said while loosing his once friendly tone and taking on a voice filled with ice

'Why not now?' was the question that was on Derrick's wolven face and asked in David's mind by his alpha

"You have the disadvantage with the strenuous nature of your journey here from the city and my alpha would not take on a weak opponent. Right Daniel?" David asked with his tone unchanging but a plea in his aqua colored eyes

By the laws of the weres it wouldn't have mattered who was weak or not. To challenge one's role as leader was the most serious and defiant act another were could ever do. In the olden days when weres had to fight each other and many more supernatural creatures just to survive the changing of leaders was commonplace. If a leader was too weak or inefficient than another could challenge him for role as the alpha. The fights were bloody and sickening but it kept many weres alive to see another day and lead future generations to be born. Nowadays challenges were rare unless the leader was a real fuck up and even then most just steeped down in the face of a better were. Everyone had to fight to survive in this modern world so challenges were extremely rare but not foreign.

Now the two weres, who David cared for the most, would soon be at each other's throats, literally. David wanted to at least make sure the battle was fair incase either lost and...

"Tomorrow, then!" David said outloud while shaking his head

"Derrick you will not be allowed to stay on the grounds of the pack but will be allowed to rest onto the other side of our territory. Should you come any closer you will be killed immediately. Do you understand me?" David asked while glaring at his friend

Derrick nodded his head before walking off without a backward glance and disappeared into the distance.

Once he was out of sight David flopped onto the ground with his pack surrounding him. The young man sighed before looking at Daniel with a look of gratefulness and then nodded. The other larger were nodded in return to show his approval of the youngest of his pack acting in accord with ancient tradition and for also not running off with his friend. The newest beta to the pack had shown his respect and devotion to his packmates by staying with them and not going after the other were even though he wanted to. The scent of sadness covered the youth and the three weredogs wrapped themselves around their mate to show their love for him while soothing his torn mind.

The warmth of three large weres surrounding David eased the pain in the silver werewolf's heart but did little too free his tortured mind. Tomorrow would decide the life of either the pack or Derrick and no matter what happened everything would change.

David shook his head and then laughed mirthlessly to himself. Who was he kidding; things had already changed so much, they had ever since the summer had come. Just how bad would it get was the real question...and somehow David knew the answer to that as well. How cliché...

The next morning found David and his packmates outside on the grassy fields with mist surrounding them and dewdrops covering their bodies/fur. The morning's light streamed from the east and cut through the dense clouds of moisture to the pile of fur and flesh wrapped in a bundle on the ground before waking the pack of weres. David was the first to wake up and at the sight of Daniel, Sam and Max still asleep huddled around his naked body made the young man's face light up and a careless smile grace his lips. Reaching out with a tanned hand the youth rubbed the water drops into Daniel's body and awaken his alpha. Warm brown eyes opened and looked at the silver headed werewolf before a large brood tongue slipped from black lips and lick the hand caressing him.

David let out a chuckle that woke the other two weredogs and caused each of them to demand the teens attention. Soon David was thrown unto his back and covered in wet laps from each of his packmates. The morning was looking so great that David had forgotten completely about the challenge that derrick had issued to Daniel. That was until a howl broke the calm of the morning and made the hackles rise on the three weredogs. David snapped his silver head to where the howl had ranged out from and then returned it with his own. The clearing was silent after that before another howl rang out but this time David didn't answer.

Looking down to the weredogs around him David just shook his head before heading to his father's house followed by Daniel, Sam, and Max. The resounding howl that rang out was ignored followed by the next and then the next until everything fell silent again. David let a smile out while noticed by only the wind a small tear dropped from his face and was carried away into oblivion.

The afternoon came quickly by and David let out a howl to signal Derrick that it was time. The howl from the other werewolf answered David before the silver headed werewolf lead the other weres into the forest nearby. Daniel, Sam and Max followed the younger were after he had changed into his full wolf form into the gathering of trees near Jonathon's ranch. Following by on the other side of the road was a large brown and black wolf that was steadily running bedside them all the while shifting his gaze back and forth between David and the glade of trees growing closer.

Once the five weres had entered into the forest David lead everyone back to the place where he had fought with Daniel so many days ago. It was poetic in a sense, the place where David had lost both his virginity and his right to ever be with another pack would be the same place where he would again lose something; either the life of his friend or his alpha. Maybe it was the werewolf's hope that Daniel would spare Derrick's life like the Doberman weredog had spared his but with the fire burning in both alpha's eyes David doubted it.

Steeling his heart and changing back into his human form the silver were circled both weres. He looked and scented the air around the area to make sure they there was no chance of any interlopers or hunters out here and when he was certain everything was ready he stood on the sidle lines with Sam and Max.

"I don't have to say what will happen today as you both know what has to be done." David said with ice in his voice and frost in his eyes while staring between the two weres

David gulped down a breath of air before raising up his face to the sun covered by the branches and limbs of the trees and howled long and loudly. Like a gun being fired at a horse track Derrick and Daniel jumped at each other.

The wolf and dog kicked from their place on the leaf-covered earth into each other with their muzzles open and fangs poised for each other's throats. Meeting in the middle of the space between them each were tore at the others fur and a splotch of blood painted the earth before each settled down on the opposite side of the other. Daniel stumbled as his front left leg was bleeding from Derricks attack but regained his footing and turned to the werewolf. Derrick too stumbled as his right fore leg was bleeding but he shook himself and then turned to the weredog.

Both of their muzzles' had dark crimson covering them and both licked their pink tongues to get a taste for each other before transforming into their more bestial forms. Derrick felt his bones pop and realign as he gained muscle and mass and his front leg shift back into his arm, which bleed out more from the pulling of his skin and fur. Daniel as well suffered from his own change but held himself and charged at the werewolf and pounced onto him while biting at his throat.

Derrick yelped out but reached his claws around and tore Daniel's muzzle from his neck and punched the weredog in the snout and then bit him on his face. The cruel move hurt the other alpha were but it gave Daniel the opportunity to dig his claws into Derrick's belly and rip his dark fur from him. The fur fell off in patches before flesh was ripped away and Derrick hopped back and placed his claw onto his abdomen to assess the damage.

Thankfully the wound was small and Daniel's claws had left only shallow scratches n his stomach but it angered the werewolf that he had been driven away from taking his adversaries neck. He howled out into the day and his eyes bleed red as he charged back into the fray with his gleaming canines ready to snap the bones loose of the other were. Daniel howled out to but at a deeper pitch as his own eyes glowed a fiery amber. Dodging the attack from the younger were the alpha Doberman snapped out his claws and tore the back of Derrick's lower spinal area but just missed short of having his claws enter and pull out the pup's spinal cord.

Backhanding the other were Derrick stunned the older weredog and then tackled him onto the forest floor and wrestled with the bigger were. Brown and black mixed together as both enraged alpha canines in order to dominate the other while biting, snarling, scratching, howling and barking at one another. Blood spattered over the brown earth and both were's furs deepening their already dark coats into an even darker shade. Neither were submitted though as they both got smeared with each other's life fluid but soon they broke away in order to circle one another.

Both Derrick and Daniel panted in exhaustion from their grapple with the other and looked like a pair of filthy demons as both of their eyes glowed brighter against their matted and dirt covered bodies. Soon Derrick rammed into Daniel and knocked the older weredog into a tree and wrapped his clawed hands onto the were's neck and began to choke him. Daniel fought the grip before looking up at the werewolf and then placing his own clawed hands on the were's arms and the kicking him away with his foot paws. Though the move freed the alpha Doberman Derrick's claws tore some of the fur from his neck and blood began to seep from the claw marks left behind. Daniel reached up his paw and grasped his neck before putting his hand in front of his face and smirking at the red liquid in his paw.

Looking to derrick Daniel nodded his head and then lapped up the sticky coppery substance before barking out and running full force into the younger were. Derrick thought that he could dodge again and get the upper hand on Daniel as he had before but this time Daniel jumped above the were and landed behind him. As Derrick turned to face his nemesis he was gripped by vice like hands and squeezed in a hold that dislocated his shoulders. He howled out but threw his head back to hit the wereodg on the muzzle and then roundhouse kicked Daniel to unbalance him.

Knowing this trick from his fight with David, Daniel was able to reorganize himself as he fell to the ground and then use one of his clawed hands to spring jump back to his feet before his body crash landed. Looking to Derrick who growling out at his limp arms the alpha weredog thought he had won when the young one made a surprising move. Derrick knocked both his arms in place when he jammed himself against a nearby pine tree and then snapped both of his bones to lock them in place. Again Daniel was impressed by the tenacity of this werewolf in their fight and wouldn't have minded making him his beta if it weren't for the fact that he wanted to rule over his pack.

He would never allow that! Not as long as he drew breath would Daniel let another rule over his betas or have their bitch! He would die before that happened but today wasn't his day to leave this earth.

Both weres sized themselves up and searched for a weakness in the other that they could exploit and take advantage of this fight. Daniel was still lightly bleeding from his neck but the wound had almost closed itself, he was wounded all over his body but their wasn't a single place that was more damaged than the other. Derrick, meanwhile, was bleeding the same as the Doberman weredog and his back was a bit sore from where claws had savagely ripped into him and his shoulders were still numbed from being placed back so ruthlessly into their place. But the younger were didn't have anymore deeper marks than the other were so the match could be somewhat even matched since neither could find an opening.

The sun was setting into the sky and dusk was claiming the heavens as the fighting drew on. David, Sam, and Max had remained silent throughout the entire battle on looking as their alpha and the other fought desperately. David worried over the fates of both of the weres but made no move to interfere knowing that it would cost him his life and the life of either were if he entered into the fray. Though his body sung with a plea for him to stop this melee he knew that he could do nothing but watch. This was the way of the beast and David had to abide by their laws because even though he was more human than wolf he was still a beast. His insides twisted and turned as the ones he loved most fought each other, tore into each other, and tried to kill the other but this was their way.

Derrick sprung at Daniel and again both rolled around in the leaves as they struggled with the other. Snapping onto each other's neck fur both were tore fur and flesh from the other while grappling and clawing at each other. A vicious bite to the neck sent a spray of crimson into the air followed by a deep howl. Derrick had felt his neck began to lose blood as he was assaulted by the weredog but the attack drove him berserk and he reached his clawed hands into Daniels chest and tore into the Doberman. Daniel too began to lose his mind to the pain of the wounds he was receiving and his own eyes glowed yellow like the morning sun before he dug his fangs into the other were.

They overturned each other multiple times until Daniel was on top and soon Derrick lost his hold onto the other were and was punched in the chest at the same place he had tore into the Doberman's chest. Daniel hit that same spot again and again and Derrick felt his ribs began to crack under the intense force of the blows he was getting. Howling out the young were knew that he had lost this fight when he began to cough up blood and watch it land on Daniel's muzzle. The werewolf refused to surrender though and made one last ditch move to turn the battle in his favor.

Striking his clawed hand out wildly Derrick was able to tear a deep gash over Daniel's muzzle and make the weredog release his hold over him to shake his face from the pain. Though the claws just miss his eyes his snout was bleeding like his chest and the Daniel really lost it. Blood rage the likes he had never known over too him and the weredog grabbed at Derrick's neck. Using all the strength in his arms the alpha Doberman drug the werewolf up from the ground into the air and let the other males feet dangle a few feet off the ground. Derrick struggled to get free but when Daniel squeezed the werewolf's neck he went limp and panted while trying to get air into his closed windpipe.

Daniel was livid from the pain he was enduring and as he bled out into the night he brought the other were close to him so that they were face to face. Looking into dimming red eyes Daniel could see that the werewolf would not give up but the fight was already over as Derrick's weak flaying grew less and less. Soon Derrick stopped moving and just heaved slightly before Daniel brought his claws up to the other were's chest, just about where his heart was. The Doberman could feel the steady pulse of the organ beat out frantically as Derrick lost more and more air and soon claws began to push inside of the werewolf's chest.

Red blood spilled over the ground and began to pool below Derrick's feet and soon a howl ripped through the night.
