A Hope Shattered to Pieces (Chapter Four : End)
#11 of Clinging Onto a Hope of Happiness
I didn't realize how much I had written, and where i was going to stop wasn't quite as good as a cutoff, so... here we continue.
Fara had never seen so many flashing red and blue lights, especially by command of her own trainer. The only problem was that Jupiter was nowhere to be found. Her sight was blinded by that of the bright lights, and her hearing deafened by the commotion of the crowd.
Fara's eyesight hindered, she saw but only a shadow. A shadow that moved quickly through her peripheral. She followed, leaving behind Lucky and the other police.
Fara followed the shadow through the city and into the woods. If it was running from Fara, it couldn't be a good entity. She followed it, faster and faster... then, it stopped. When Fara caught up, it turned around, and Fara took a good look at the male mightyena that stood before her.
"Who are you," Fara demanded, "and why did you lead me here?"
"I didn't lead you here, you simply followed," it said in an immature tone.
"Don't joke with me, you knew I would come," Fara said seriously.
"I'll ask again. Who are you, and why have you led me here?"
He sighed. "Name's Duce. There's no particular reason as to why I led you here," he lied. "But as long as it's just you and me, we cou--"
"Horny bastard..." Fara muttered. She turned and took a few steps back towards the city.
"Wait," he said. Fara paused mid-step. "If you could just--"
"i've no time for sex with a person I don't even know," she said, and continued to walk away. "Byebye, Duce," she said over her shoulder.
Every corner that Fara and Lucky tuned in Veilstone, she saw that moving shadow. She thought it was going to haunt her forever.
"Lucky," Fara said. "I need to take care of something." She walked off toward the shadow again.
"You know following me around won't make me have sex with you, right?" Fara said. "If you followed me before, you would have known exactly why that doesn't work," Fara said sadly.
"You want to tell m-"
"No!" Fara shouted. "I'm leaving... don't follow me anymore."
"It's not good to keep things bottled up," Duce said, causing Fara to stop.
"Here's hoping this is the last time I have to say this," Fara said. "I won't tell anyone... ever."
"I can't make you tell me, I guess. But... I don't promise not to follow you," he said. "That's only because I'm interested in this story of yours that you won't tell anyone. One day, you'll tell someone."
"I've told some of my friends--"
"You have?" "--That I won't tell them, either. If I won't tell them, I definitely won't tell some horny mightyena that I barely know. It's not something I want to talk about. Not with my best friends, not with my trainer, and definitely not with you. Sorry if you wanted to hear, but you aren't even the last of the people I would tell."
"Why's that?"
"Why do you even have to ask? You led me away from my friends for your own personal problems. Just for your information, that's in the least of my tastes."
"If I followed you, we could get to know--"
"I don't want to get to know you."
"... I see," Duce said, disappointed.
"If you had been following me before, you would know that the heat I pack is just too great for your kitchen. Before you invite someone to have sex with you, at least know what the person will say." Fara said. "So sorry for you, but I'm no public whore like you thought."
"I never thought you were. I just... reacted to a beatuiful body," he said.
"I appreciate the compliment," Fara said, "but it's not getting you anywhere."
"Harder to get than most. I guess it can't be helped."
Fara didn't say anything. She turned around and started to walk away once again.
"Wait."
"What now?"
"I wanna come with you," he said. "I'm interested... in that story of yours."
"Are you sure it's not just your hormones?"
He didn't say anything.
Faara sighed. "Fine." They walked back to rejoin Lucky at the pokemon center.
When they arrived, Lucky stared.
"I know we already have Skeln for a dark type, but... This guy, Duce, will follow us whether we like it or not."
"He knows about us?"
"I don't think so," Fara said. "Unless he lied to me," she continued, glaring at Duce. He was staring in shock at how Fara was having a conversation with Lucky.
"So you're coming with us?" Lucky asked.
"I, er... yeah..." Duce studdered. "Name's Duce."
"It'll take a little getting used to, but I can talk to you, and you can talk to me," Lucky said. "Welcome to the team, Duce," Lucky said invitingly. She hit him with a pokeball and Fara waited for the pokeball to make its signature ping noise. Lucky picked it up and let him back out.
"I'm only here to hear Fara's story, but it couldn't hurt to start my own in the meanwhile," Duce said. "I can't wait for it to start."
"Duce, my name's Lucky," Lucky said. "In these two pokeballs are Skeln and Ches, and in this one is my first, Bubba. Skeln and Ches are mates. Right now, we're off to the pokemon center. We had a little bit of excitement earlier."
"I'm fine with him as long as you don't make me get cozy with him," Fara said.
"Things didn't go the way I expected them to when I brought her away," Duce explained. "Now's the time to try and make it work slow. Porbably the first tiem it worked out like this... Last time, an eeveelution wasn't quite as hard..." Lucky laughed, and the team continued to the pokemon center.

Fara, Lucky, and Duce waited around the center for the sign to turn green. Duce was telling his stories, mostly all having the same ending every time. He gets horny, finds someone, drags them away, has sex, then they're gone. His life must have been really repetitive until Fara came along.
"All of that is great, Duce," Fara said. "But Lucky, how are we going to find Jupiter now?"
"It's easy if you think back a little. Remember those papers that flew everywhere when we were fighting Jupiter? There's out first clue. We have to look at those papers to see if we can catch a lead on where she's going."
Fara looked at her, astonished that it could be so easy. "Is that all?"
"Well, sometimes they don't leave anything worth looking at, and it'd be best if it was only me and the police. That's why I'm leaving you two alone. I'm taking the others with me just in case."
"Why are you doing this to me?" Fara asked, depressed. "Why can't I go?"
"You don't have opposable thumbs."
"So? I can do that and more with my psychic..."
"Please, Fara. Just stay here. You two need to... bond, anyways."
"Fine..." Fara said.
"Yes!" Duce whispered to himself. Fara gave him a look. "Yeah yeah, I know," he said. "But it's a good chance for me to take a step forward."
"Why can't you keep your distance?"
"Because when I see something I like, I must and will have it."
Lucky was gone by now. "You're spoiled," Fara said. "Like my old trainer."
"Does that start the story?"
"No."
"Why don't you tell anyone?"
"Because you asked that question."
"...Shouldn't have asked."
"It's your own fault," Fara teased.
"But you're so cruel!"
"But you just ask for it so well!" Fara mocked. "If you didn't want to be picked on, you wouldn't be so gullable to it."
"It's just my nature."
"Your nature isn't exactly the brightest one of all the flashlights. You might want to go ahead and work on a new one."
"Harsh words," Duce said. "Sometimes the meanest can also be the kindest, so I'll work on that..." He said. He smirked. "I'll find a new way to live. Here's hoping that new way involves you."
"Ew! Would you give it up already? Understand that you will never get me to mate with you. Ever. Get it through your thin mind already!"
"Ouch," he said. "Suddenly it hurts to try. Well, no pain no gain..."
"None of this would have happened if you didn't drag me out into the woods. It's not my problem that you chose me of all people to follow around."
"Maybe if you tried being nicer, there wouldn't be a problem!"
"You took the risk, you deal with the consequences." Fara didn't plan on letting him win an argument.
"I wonder what makes me like you so much?"
"You're just a horny freak."
Lucky came back. "You two bond well?" She asked.
"Yeah," they both said in unison. They looked at each other and let out a false smile.
Lucky put her hands on her hips. "Whatever. Out lead on Jupiter says she'll be in Olivine city in Johto. We'll set off tomorrow, so you two better get started on liking each other. I won't have a team that doesn't get along." She looked at Fara, then to Duce, giving a look that said 'I'm talking about YOU.'
She turned to leave the pokemon center, the espeon and mightyena following her.
They took themselves to a well needed rest in a hotel. As soon as they got there, Fara collapsed on the floor and fell asleep on soft carpet.
Fara is planning something special.
