A lost little kitty Chapter 1

Everything was still blurry. Reaching out from the haze that was filling her mind Arean Galbrit could hear a horrible huzzy beeping coming from somewhere, she didn't know where. "It's your alarm!" the voice cut through the buzz and Arean groggily got to her feet.

It had been a fun night, she and her boys and her uncle had got together to try something out. Gariab, her dealer, had come up with something rare when she had approached him yesterday, five cobs of premium treage and a usual supply of cheep Carnima. She hadn't beel well dressed at that time.

Meeting her dealer with her two friends at the corner of carit and darmin the trio had waited in the communal garden. These were perfect places for meetings. The looming treelike structured of the financial district with their decorated roofs and buttresses swayed in the wind and the heat of the summer day. Each of the scrapers in the business section stood easily forty or fifty stories high, large round buildings made of concrete spaced in between with the communal gardens and zoomer trails used by commuters going to and from their business. Weaving through the long curves the thin streets rolled around the bases of the round concrete buildings and zoomers, one or two person hover machines that carried the bulk of the daily traffic flowed along them seamlessly. There were no stops, no intersections, only the occasional crossing from the paved sidewalks that marked the edge of each building's property across the zoomer paths to the gardens where people would gather and meet on their lunch breaks, to talk or enjoy themselves.

It was enjoyment that Arean and her friends had been seeking. Each of them had arrived separately in their own zoomer and parked it underneath one of the buildings that surrounded this park. With the tall banks and the commercial building looming overhead with their large animal-shaped figureheads protruding off the top this small park only got a limited amount of direct sunlight during the day. Commonly referred to as cheeawa tara (the Evening Dance) the light bursting in from between the buildings during the day at odd and strange angles was the only thing keeping the small garden growing and keeping it from being in complete darkness most of the day. It made the park a perfect place for people to meet quietly without gaining attention.

Uncle Missel had met her there first, as usual. She didn't exactly live with him but the amount of time spent if the 40 year old's bed it didn't matter. He was her supporter and had been since she had left home at age Twelve, constantly providing her with affection and money. "Your Early!" she called out, using her voice for the first time that day.

"You know how I am, always willing to help out my little girl!" Arean smiled. Dressed simply but not in a way that was offensive she checked her yellow top, leather skirt and the ankle-high boots that protected her kind paws from the ground below them before trotting over quickly and pressing up against the larger man. When she had been young he had dwarfed her, his golden coat of thin trimmed fur and slight mane around his face tickling her as they kissed. Missel had been the first to take away her childhood and had rewarded her well over the years with contacts, a place to stay, her own zoomer and occasional money to help her get by. It wasn't enough, obviously. Not nowadays now that she was older and if either of Missel's wives had learned he was courting a child during those years it would have ruined the banker but he had been a godsend to her during the early days and they still met occasionally.

Usually when Uncle Missel had gotten word of something useful.

Sitting down on the lush red grass under the umbre sky Arean looked up at the towers as they waited for her friend Cassier and the dealer to turn up.

"What do you have this time?" Arean chirped in the silent grove as Missel got out his lunch. "I was talking to Gariab and he said he had something special, told me it was going to be costly but really special. One of these new ones you hear about from up near the hub. I brought some extra cash but I'm not sure what his price range will be." "A little bit of Rub-a-dub will no doubt bring the price down!" Arean snickered. "That boy is cheep to satisfy; he has a thing for my fur now. He says he likes how it surrounds him when I'm all over him." "I know, thats why I wanted you here first. We can play 'The game' before your friend arrives!" The Jalaxian snickered.

Arean didn't have much to be proud of in her world. Living in a small one person apartment in a rim land building Arean's daytime was spent working in a market of all places. Most of Rim land was markets mind, it was a small section with towers and interconnecting bridges between the towers that was a major shopping area. Most of the buildings were rented out shop space, Arean working at a grocer at the bottom of one of those towers. Money was scarce and her pay from the shops went exclusively onto covering her rent and enough food to live. She tried to spend as little time in the flat as possible. It was somewhere to go, somewhere to lay her head when she couldn't find another persons bed and somewhere for the letters to go to. Small, one room containing a bed, a shower, a small kitchen and enough space for a TV all in a rather open-plan layout, But then it was cheep.

The one thing aren did have to be proud of was her Fur! Arean had once belonged to the ProudCats, a family of almost exclusively blackfurred cats that was vast. There were at least six families of Proudcats in the city and while they weren't necessarily Rich her Mother was a news reporter, her aunt a model. All of them took great care of their coats as much as possible and Arean was no exception. It was her luxurious coat that Most made the boys desire her and she played it for all she was worth! That was the game. When Gariab arrived her and her uncle would play the role she usually played, the 23 year old acting coy and innocent and showing her fur. Uncle Missel would try to haggle with the man, trying to get a good price, then Arean would step in.

It usually worked. It had worked with her friends several times before they had become close and while it was a mean trick it was an efficient trick. "Give it to me cheep and you can spend some time with my girl here!" was the call, and Arean would smile and wink. Gariab was no different. When he finally arrived we did the game as planned. Gariab had been half expecting it, just as I needed the Carnima to get by so he needed me, at least he thought so. Sniffing and acting like it was an inconvenience - Uncle Missel waved us off and I allowed myself to be taken off to one of the nearby grottos, little hidden areas amongst the city buildings. Grottos were like Hotels only smaller. Usually near or close to a Garden a grotto was a little block of small rooms for people to rent. Like the small Flat Arean lived in they were small open plan rooms, usually tended by a landlord but the difference between a grotto and a flat was in length. Anybody could rent a grotto, money up front and you could pay for half an hour or half a year. However long you intended to use it you were expected to pay up front and (allowing that this was where Gariab had brought her in the past Arean was starting to think he maintained the rent on this place to bring girls who couldn't afford. Girls like Arean.

It wasn't my first rodeo, Gariab's flat stunk of weed and chemicals, he made some of his drugs himself and the smell seamed to follow him around. and his personal habits weren't too good either. With patchy fur, a tendency to catch flees and way too many chemical showers to get rid of them the man was not by any definition attractive, nor was he by any definition worthy. Not of my fur. It was what allowed me to get such good results from the game. "Were you planning anything interesting this time?" I asked as I looked around the flat. "Last time I came here you had two friends with you. If you're planning something like that again you know I charge extra!" I batted my eyes for effect. "Its not so much that I don't want all holes filled, so much as the wear and tear on my fur from having three guys smear their cum and sweat over it. You realize I have to shampoo this don't you?" Gariab chuckled.

"Not at all dear, not at all. In fact I'm in a generous mood. This Is the last time I'm going to see you!" Arean blinked. "Excuse me?"

Gariab was acting shifty. "Don't tell me your skipping town, or that the Narcs got to you ?" he shook his head as the cat turned down the lights and put on some of that cranky Garril music he liked. You couldn't even TaraTara to the music it was that fast but oddly, he seamed to be trying to make an effort. That was when he cracked open the little bar fridge beside his bed and I was surprised for the second time that day.

"Where's the drink?" Usually the fridge was stocked with alcohol, so much that I wondered if and where the guy ate.I tapped my paw and glared at the guy. "You know - your still using my time. Uncle Missel will expect a discount for my being here even if I never get my kit off!" Gariab made shushing motions. Pulling out a foldable table from the side of the wall he tossed a moderately clean sheet over it. "So, We're having dinner!" Arean looked down at him as he put out some vrachnia, grabbed a bottle of wine (most likely laced with something to make it interesting) and put out one of those old candle things that people hardly used now days.

"Aren't I allowed to woo a woman occasionally?" Arean stared at him, them leaned to one side and unbuckled her boots, slipping her paws out and standing them on the soft syntho-turf that was common inside a lot of houses now days. The soft ground was tended with some foregn device known as a vac, and was much for comfortable for soft paws than hard ground. "I don't see why not. What's the occasion?"

Gariab was beaming. "I won a holiday!" he explained. "I won a ruddy holiday! You won't believe it! I've been putting aside money from me sales each time and usin it to buy tickets in the bank lotteries things! And one of them one of the grand prizes was an all expenses liner trip to earth!" he grinned. "Travellin on this JetStar, one of those express starships! All expenses paid, I hope on the ship, it takes two months to get there, I stay a month at some hotel at some place called "Himalays" or something then come back!" he grins "I know the two months in stasis during the hyper speed journey will be much of much-ness but did you know they have something on their world called snow? Its like rain, only frozen and it falls from the sky!"

Arean tried to picture it. "It sounds ruddy dangerous if you ask me. You couldn't go walking in it - you'd get shrapnel!" only to get a laugh out of Gariab. "They say the snow is soft. Fluffy! Like fur only wet." Arean can't picture it.

Taking a seat the two eat dinner, Arean watching her dealer quietly as he goes on and on about this place called earth, and about snow, and grass and a golden sun. While the descriptions do interest her a little her biggest concern is "Where am I gonna get cheep kit now." Accordin to him he's gonna be gone for five months! That's five months without the cheapest dealer in the city, or at least that she knew of. She made a face when Gariab poured her some wine. There was no question of it, there was likely something in there to make her relax and she didn't want to. Not when she was supposed to be getting back to meet Cassier. Putting the stick she was eating with down Arean sighed, getting up and walking around the table.

"Look." Arean stared down at her supplier. "Uncle gave me the cash, I can transfer it to you in a heartbeat. But!" Bringing a knee up to the seat of the chair Arean draped herself over the mangy cat."I don't have forever. Do you want to jump my bones or not?" "Er...." The hesitation was bad. Leaning in, she licked his nose, then the side of his cheek where skin was showing through. That got him to shut up finally.

As the mangy dealer kissed her and started fumbling with her pants, Arean loosened her skirt and prepared for the main event, not even really paying attention to the activities of the man beneath her. Her mind was too pre-occupied with the subject of the next five months, where she would get cheep drugs, and images of a snow capped mountain giving way to green grass and shimmering under a giant golden sun.
