Chronicle of: June 12, 2022

The forest was dark when I finally awoke from my exhaustion, finding myself cradled inside a blanket in the tree trunk we had found before I passed out. I wrapped the covering tighter, trying to collect a little extra heat for myself as I looked outside, the rain splashing hard against the mud, the thunder above my head still as loud as it was earlier; every roll and crash shocking the sky, lighting up the surrounding area. I peered through the cascading water to look out into my world, trying to gather my bearings and see exactly what was going on.

I rubbed at my eyes to focus my vision, my fur a mess of mud and grass as my arm brushed against my face. I could feel my body now, or what was left of it anyway. I could feel the pain emanating throughout me, what seemed like every inch crying out in agony. I wanted to scream, to howl with all my rage at the events that lead me here to this little hole in the world, but I couldn't for fear of being discovered. I continued to peer through the mist and fog to hopefully catch a glimpse of some life, whether it be a friend, an enemy or... my brother... Dante. Whatever came next, I knew I had to be prepared.

I tried to allow my body to readjust itself, letting my legs spread out what they could in the space I had to work with while avoiding the hard beating weather. I pulled the blanket closer to me, shielding myself from the cold what I was able. I could feel the temperature in the air chilling rapidly, my body feeling it in great amount. "From fire to frostbite... This just hasn't been my day."I thought to myself as I lowered my head and stared hard at my paws while recollecting my thoughts of this horrible day in its entirety; first, the town I helped found burned to the ground, secondly, I watched as the FLC captured a full truckload of furries all in the pursuit of me for a reasons unknown (probably to create a poison to wipe us all out I would guess), thirdly, was not only detained, but also stripped and tortured only to lastly meet up with my brother who saved my life but to what end and angle I had yet to ascertain...

It was all too much for me. Every one of these thoughts burned in my mind, and I could feel my humanity pulling further away from me as I smashed at the ground, feeling the real wolf inside me trying to claw its way through me ready to burst out, to lash and bite back at the world, at humans, for starting this war.

"FUCK!!! ARGH!!!" I grabbed at my head as it lowered deeper and I yelled out in agony, feeling myself about to break. I could feel my blood rushing through me, suffering the heat of true anger and frustration as my fur stood on end, my veins starting to appear and bulge. I kept on screaming for as long as my voice would carry, waiting for someone to come put me out of this misery I put everyone else in.

It was then I heard footsteps off in the distance, the sound of military boots stomping through the mud, coming closer to me. The shadow quickly approached my hiding space and stopped in front of me, the hilt of their gun hitting the ground with a snigger to accompany. I didn't know what to do. I was afraid. Should I cower under the blanket and pray he doesn't find me, or clench my fists and jump out to surprise my attacker? Whatever I was going to do, I knew the decision had to be made now...

I bounded out from my hiding spot and took my aggressor with me as we flew forward in the wet mud, all my anger pushing us onward and we slid along the sludge going along what felt like a hillside. I couldn't see a thing, didn't know what I was fighting but just knew that I had to make a stand here or give up on my life.

We propelled further as the foe dropped his gun and started beating at my back, my body just working through the blows as I just pushed on. We collided against a tree, the base of it crashing against the back of my enemy. I could hear his groans of pain as I used all my strength to push him harder against the wood. I could hear bones cracking and I knew that I was winning as I listened to his shrieks of anger.

"Doctor...Thompson... you're... under arrest..." My assailant managed to squeak out as he grabbed at my head and smashed my muzzle against his knee. I fell backwards and tried quickly to get my footing, but the slush kept me from success. He came up on me fast and kicked me in the chest, leaving me to gasp for air as he approached me while cracking his knuckles.

"For crimes against humanity..." He said as he dropped with all his weight on top of me, driving his elbow into the core of my spine. I bared my teeth in rage and spun my arm around at him for a counterattack, hitting him in the solar plexus sending him flying several feet away, allowing me to finally get my traction as I spit out the blood that was gathering in my mouth. I stood up and finally with a flash of lightning got a look at my attacker; it was the same FLC soldier who captured me earlier that day, 2469. I couldn't hold anything back here, it was even more personal more now.

"The FLC has sentenced to you to death!" He scream out as he readied his attack. "I'm ready for this, I can do this..."I told myself over and over again. I rushed at 2469 as he ran at me. We collided with a grapple and struggled with each other for a minute; were he an ordinary man I knew I could've overpowered him but he was built like a barn, his arm muscles ripping through his shirt as we pushed harder to gain ground against the other. To his credit, I understood now how he took me down earlier. However, I was not intent on letting that happen again. I screamed out in rage as my head smashed against his, the sound of bone and sinew being shattered but as to who's was hard to determine. I felt blood trickling down from my forehead as I launched myself forward for another assault, but this time he managed to dodge and caught me with a fist to the face. I fell hard to the ground, my right arm taking the brunt of the force, contorting in ways no limb should.

"Aww did the poor doctor really think he could win!?" He said with a hint of malice as he worked his way over to me and began stomping on me. "You furries are nothing but a stain on the history of the world! All of you will have to die! Divine punishment for trying to play god is all you deserve!" He yelled out as I felt every boot land against me, myself trying to block his attacks and come up with some strategy, my strength starting to really fail me now.

"Enough foreplay doc..." 2469 said as he picked up my entire body and held me above his head, soon hurling me forward into a nearby tree. I gasped as my body hit the earth, my vision fading with the mix of rain and blood pouring into my eyes. I could feel it now, the very thing I designed cedoperforin to stop people from experiencing in the first place; death. As the hulking man approached menacingly, I for just a second cowered and started to crawl away. I did not want to die like this.

It was then that all my thoughts flooded me with one ideal, one reason to get back up and fight; hope. If furries were ever to get back to normal, to reverse the damage that had been done, they would require me. I needed to live, to survive; to stop people like this man who's only thought is to kill what he's commanded to. To stop the FLC and be both martyr and arbiter for everyone. If my life was ever going to mean anything more than the pain I brought about, I'd have to endure a little longer.

I rose from my collapse with a new found strength, a weird yet warm feeling radiating from inside my soul. I had felt this way before, when I had originally transformed into the wolf I am today. I felt my wounds began to coagulate as I readied for his next attack. This would be it, all or nothing...

"Die furry!!!" he screamed with a lunge.

"You first human!!!" I challenged back as my fist flew forward in return, me beating my enemy to the hit. I pushed more as my hand began rending its way through the man's body and coming out the other side, his blood spraying out behind him as I pulled him close by his backbone. "You're just the beginning... Thanks for the practice!" I snarled in victory as I pulled my paw out and watched as his blood spewed out and mixed in with the water forming around us. He dropped to the ground on his knees, looking up at me with anger as I drove my foot into his head. The battle was over.

I had won my first real fight, yet strangely I did not feel any sense of true accomplishment or joy. If anything, now I felt like the monster humans kept making us out to be. I fell backwards in utter fatigue and let the rain wash over me as I closed my eyes and let a tear escape with a slight chuckle of laughter. I finally truly understood where this war was headed from this point on, my heart hoping I was wrong.

The rain stopped finally as my body lay broken, all my energy gone with that final assault. I could hear Dante calling out in the distance, finally rushing to my side. I couldn't move, but hell if it mattered to me; I finally won one, time for round two...
