Magma and Frost
Short Piece featuring Maverick Skye by Duo Theus
In the aftermath of the planet Valmerit, Maverick Skye went on to make a reputation of himself across the galaxy. The kit showed signs of a very rare and forgotten magic, though only a few seemed to take notice. One of these few was a male very similar to Maverick Skye himself, his name was Marek Dusk.
Upon a long forgotten world, the young fox cub named Maverick had settled down for the time being, taking a well deserved rest from his troubles. However, when dealing with Maverick Skye, trouble always seemed to follow. A young fox began blowing up structures across the land, though no one was injured, he demanded to see Maverick and kill him.
This fox was very interesting, his outfit a lavender overcoat, his dress, very proper. His fur was bronze except the tips of his ears, arms, legs, and tail, they were a bright light burning orange. Right eye red, left gold, and his hair was platinum glossed in gold. He was Marek Dusk, the one who would kill Maverick Skye.
After exchanging a few words, Marek and Maverick began to fight, exchanging equal blow after blow until it was realized that they were an equal match. Maverick then tried some of his magic, though was shocked to see that it had been neutralized by Marek who did not use magic, but was an alchemist.
Marek would transmutate the magical energy into something else, thus ending the spell. The alchemist quickly learned that they were not gaining anything since nothing was happening. The two then decided to talk some more, and it was revealed that Marek had no clue as to why he wanted to kill Maverick, he just said he did.
The evening turned into night as the two foxes continued their conversation, discovering they were very much the same. Both had the same kinds of likes, dislikes, and hobbies, but Marek had a different personality even though he was as childish and playful as Maverick.
Marek could even shift in to an adult form like the young Maverick. The two found it very strange how similar they were, but Marek could not remember where he came from, as far as he knew, he had always been in the mountains and had strange abilities.
As a younger child, Marek was brought up by a lovely woman who studied alchemy. She knew that his powers were that of an alchemist and that he could be one of the best around, so she decided to train him. Eventually his training was complete and he set out to venture into the world.
The two foxes enjoyed each other so much, that they decided to become very close friends and not destroy one another. Maverick and Marek spent many years together, playing around, having adventures; the two were inseparable and developed a little nick name for their team, Marek was magma with his fierce alchemy and Maverick was frost for his calming wind.
The kits even trained each other in their own fields, though Marek was not that good at controlling wind or being a necromancer, and Maverick was not that good at being an alchemist and the art of transmutation. Though in the end, Marek could do some necromancer spells and Maverick learned how to transmutate an element into something else of the same element.
As one would expect, this deep and close friendship did turn to love between the two foxes. Though this love was strange and passionate, again the two shared a similarity in their sexual behavior and appearance, though Marek was a bright light orange and Maverick a calm bright blue. It was a shame that such a perfect relationship would have to come to an end.
A team of scientists came and abducted both Maverick and Marek, stating that Marek was created in a lab and was known as the Hunter project. Marek was a clone created to kill Maverick as they desired to use Maverick in a sacrifice to gain his magical abilities. They were upset as Marek was lost to them as a child and it took them years to find him again. Both cubs were upset at the news, as now Maverick was to be sacrificed and Marek was to be what they called "recycled."
It was the day Maverick Skye was to be burned to death and his atoms extracted for their magical properties, and it was also the day Marek Dusk was to be deconstructed and then reconstructed with machine parts and the found abilities of Maverick Skye. However, Dusk managed to use his little known necromancy to escape from captivity, killing the scientists that had captured them, and made his way to the deconstructive beam to find his dear love. He fought his way to Maverick, rescuing him, though the machine was unstable and needed a sacrifice or else it would have blown up and poisoned the planet.
Marek felt responsible for all the mess, and decided to correct the mistake he made. He stated his goodbyes to Maverick and made his way towards the energy beam against young Mavericks protests. Marek was destroyed, his genetic makeup gone and the machine stable, the world was safe.
Maverick shut down the machine and did his best using his necromancy to try and save his beloved fox, though he could not find a trace of his clone. Maverick left the lab in shambles, not wishing for anyone to do what those wicked scientists did. The weight and trauma of what happened was a burden at first, but Maverick always had the wind to help him carry it.
The silver fox left the planet due to the weight of the others memory, and lived by himself for many years on other worlds. The death of Marek Dusk was very pressing in his heart and he did not want to experience that kind of pain ever again. Though he was a copy and considered a fake clone, their love was real and that was all that mattered.
Maverick knew everything had a purpose, and there must have been a purpose for the time spent with Marek Dusk, though he did not what it was, he was very thankful to have met the fox and for the time they spent together.
Eventually the emotional pain subsided and the fox moved on with his life, meeting other friends and loves. The memory never left him of his clone, his first real genetic brother. The legacy of Magma and Frost would always live.
This was a small meaningful event in the life of Maverick Skye which occurred a few years after his battle with the Indestructible Master of Power, Ken Kaiba. Often it is said these types of times were learning events meant for some greater purpose. Not only one specific soul's learning events, but that of another who may also be watching.
This micro chapter takes place between the events of the first subchapter/event The Indestructible Master of Power and the second subchapter/event The Queen of Winter.
