A roar erupted from inside the reinforced shack. Two lions busrt through the roof, punching two large holes in the wood. One was wearing a red, tattered cloak. The sight of them as they were, ill-fed but well-built battle machines was shocking, but not enough to unnerve a hardened leopard.

"Engage!"

Gloan grabbed the first of the volunteer soldiers by the tail as he landed behind him. He whipped the poor feline aside and into a wall of a neighboring house, grabbed a second by the shoulders, and gave him a headbutt so viscious it caused even the others nearby to flinch at the sound of it. Meanwhile the nameless younger had drawn a curved knife with a hole in the flat of the blade. Deftly he moved between his enemies, defeating three in an effortless and fuid motion combining weapon and body.

"Let's go Shinta. Now, while Leo's dad is distracted." Iwako climbed out the window on the side of the shack onto the next roof, and reached back to help the weaker Shinta over the gap. Pulling over their bags on the other hand took some effort on Shinta's part, as one hers became stuck on the corner of what would have been a decrorative border to the window. She jerked and yanked and pulled until the bag came free. But when she had finished she turned to glance at the battle unfolding out front. Leo's father was looking straight at them, his scarred ear incapable of copying its twin in expressing his anger.

"They're escaping! The window in the alley! Get them you fools!" The leopard was screaming at the top of his lungs, but his undisciplined volunteers were preoccupied and panicked. The two lions were too much for untrained soldiers. The elder's crushing onslaught and the younger's deft slashes sent them running--until the leopard with the scar on his ear raised his saber high into the air and let out a snarl. He then leveled the sword at Gloan and took up his fighintg stance. "At your ready."

The younger lion raised his knife and stepped forward to attack, but was stopped by Gloan, who streatched out his arm. Gloan then unhooked twin axes from the rear of his belt. Their gleaming crimson color matched that of his worn mantle. He took a battle position, and growled. The duel began, and Shinta and Iwako took their cue to escape. They fled over the rooftops and towards the mountains, leaving the street fight behind them.
