Sun and Rain

The overwhelming fresh scent of rain rushed into Momo's soft, pink nose with a deep inhalation. She sighed contently, a pleasent smile spreading across her muzzle from one corner of her mouth to the other. She closed her eyes, forcing them to finally stop flicking around in their usual untamed, easily distractable way. Instead of observing with her eyes, Momo used her senses. She smoothed a gray paw over the grass, feeling the touch of every emerald blade on her pads. Then there was the sun, not glaringly bright but the right amount veiled by clouds, shining its distilled light onto the cat. She took another deep breath; the smell of grass, earth and flowers. Momo turned over onto her side, her tail sweeping over the grass of her school field. She sat perfectly still, picking up the sounds of bird song, twigs snapping and all manner of living things going about their daily routines. She felt so relaxed and at peace.

And then the first, chubby rain drop landed on her face, unceremoniously rousing her from her dreamlike state. The cat jolted upright, her tail fuzzed up in shock. She reached up and touched the wet spot left on her cheek by the raindrop. Momo's gaze shifted upwards, where she spotted the enormous cluster of dark clouds blotting out the sky entirely. Her jem-like eyes looked at those clouds with disapointment and she got up from her warm resting place on the field. It began to rain.

Seeking refuge from the sudden downpour, Momo hightailed it into the forest. She silently thanked the trees for their semi-protection from the rain (water still trickled through their branches, much to the cat's chagrin). Momo leaned against a tree shivering and miserable from the rainfall. It was a time like this that she was envious of Sphynxes and their lack of fur. She looked down at herself. Not only was her orange sun dress soaked but her fur was drenched as well. She felt itchy and uncomfortable under the weight of her sopping wet grey fur. She could see the ends of each clump of hair were dripping like a hundred leaky faucets.

Momo gave a collasal sneeze, sat down at the base of the tree and decided there was nothing that she could do but wait out the storm.
