The Begining

"Dad are you going to get a human too?" the little pup asked while jumping up on the edge of the crate looking up at Balto excitedly.
Balto winked looking down at his son "Naa, see humans like cute little puppies like you, not old grizzly grown up's like me." before he petted his son's head.
"Well, well what do we have here." said a man of about 6ft with short brown hair, and tan skin. He knelt down next to Balto "So these are yours big fella." he said giving Balto a scritch behind the ears.
The pup began barking and wagging his tail happily looking up at the human.
The man looked down at the pup "Well aren't you an egger little boy." he said before reaching in and picking the pup up. "You don't mind if I take him home do you Balto?" Balto responded with a sad wine. "Don't worry you can come and see him any time you would like." the man said to Balto before standing up and walking into town.
Jenna walked over to Balto nuzzling under his neck "He's in good hands Balto, my humans say he's breed some Iditarod champions, so he knows what he's doing." Balto nuzzled Jenna back, a single tear running down his cheek.
"Well now we have to come up with a name for you." The man said gently tapping the pup on the nose. The pup cradled in his arms smiled playfully pawing at the man's finger. "I know, how about Kodiack, or Kodi for short. How's that sound?"
Kodi barked happily at the man agreeing to his name. The man smiled "Ooops I forgot to tell you my name. I'm Zack." He then stopped in front of the general store "Now we have some shopping to do." Zack opened the door walking inside to the pet section. The two began looking and trying out anything and everything a pup could possibly want. Form toys to collars, food bowls to treats, and everything in between.
About an hour latter the two exited the shop, with Zack carrying four bags full of stuff. Kodi was sporting a new black leather collar and leash in which Zack had connected to his writs. "It's a good thing your so cute because your expensive." he said sticking his tongue out at Kodi.
Kodi barked and jumped around excitedly, not completely sure what this "being expensive" stuff was all about but the silly face he was getting form Zack reassured him it wasn't a bad thing.
"Ok let's head home Kodi." Zack said before heading off to the edge of town. Kodi quickly flowed Zack before taking the lead pulling Zack along with him. Zack thought to himself as he was being dragged along "Wow he's strong and a natural lead dog." He picked up his pace to match Kodi, making their way home.
Zack and Kodi stopped in front of a rather large wooden home "Well Kodi here were are, home sweet home." The two headed up towards the front door, Kodi having a little difficulty going up the to him rather large steps. Zack put the bags down and unlocked the door, before unleashing Kodi and gently pushing him inside "Go ahead and explore while I put this stuff away."
Kodi walked in amazed at how much bigger the rooms looked then his mom's human's home (Rose's family). He began sniffing around, but didn't manage to find anything of interest. Kodi headed up the stairs; exploring the rest of the house making sure he didn't miss anything.
Zack finished putting the stuff away, before heading into the living room. "Huh I wonder where he's at?" he though to himself before hearing a thump upstairs. He stopped in the doorway to his room, he sighed "They always go for the socks." With a smile he snuck up behind Kodi, and at the correct moment snatched the sock away.
Kodi jumped up and turned around looking up at Zack holding the sock. "Hehe look at what I have" Zack said as he dangled the sock in front of Kodi. He jumped at the sock and just as he was about to catch it, it disappeared from in front of him. Kodi landed and turn to see that Zack had pulled it up and away. "Almost had it their Kodi." Zack said while dropping the sock back down. Kodi adjusted his strategy and jumped again this time higher making it impossible for Zack to pull it up fast enough. Kodi latched onto the very tip of the sock, pulling it down with him. The two grinned at each other signaling the beginning of an intense game of tug-o-war.
The two sat down on the floor exhausted, Zack smiled down at Kodi before petting him on the head "Was that fun buddy?" Kodi responded with a happy wag of his tail. Zack looked over at his clock "O crap it's 11:00, we need to get some sleep Kodi." He got up and took off all his clothes except his boxers. Zack picked the tired pup up and placed him on the bed before sliding in under the covers.
Kodi walked over and gave Zack a few licks on the face before cuddling up with him. Zack smiled and gave him a kiss on the head "Night Kodi." The two drifted off to sleep, their bond getting stronger with each passing moment.
During the fallowing months Zack watched Kodi as he grew into a mature dog, he became strong, fast, and determined. As Zack watched Kodi run down the beach with his father Balto, he realized that Kodi would be great member of an Iditarod team, but he needed to get some experience pulling a sled.
"Hey Zack" Mr. Simpson (mail team musher in Balto 3) said as he walked up beside Zack. "Wow Kodi's gotten big" he said as he watched Kodi running.
Zack smiled "He sure has, he's going to make a great sled dog."
"Well that's what I'm here to talk to you about." Mr. Simpson said, Zack quickly looked over at him. "Yea we need one more dog for the mail team, and Kodi was the first dog to pop into my mind."
"Wow that would be great, but let me check with Kodi about that." Zack whistled loud enough for Kodi to hear. Kodi stopped in his tracks looking towards Zack "Kodi come here." he yelled while making a come here motion. Kodi ran over to Zack, wagging his tail happily and sitting at Zack's feet once he got there. Zack knelt in front of Kodi "Now Kodi how would you like to be on the mail team?" he said rubbed Kodi's head.
Kodi's eyes grew big when he heard those words. His tail began to wag a thousand miles an hour as he got up and began jumping around excitedly. "Well I guess that's a yes." Zack stood up putting his hand out to shake Mr. Simpson's "Looks like you got yourself a sled team."
"That's great." Mr. Simpson shook hands "Our first practice is tomorrow, and our first run is next Monday."
"Don't worry he'll be there." Zack said before the two said their good byes, and Mr. Simpson headed home. "Isn't that great..." he said as he turned around "Um Kodi?" just then he heard a few happy barks and looked up to see that Kodi had run back over to Balto.
Kodi jumped and ran around his father "Dad, you'll never guess what just happened." He said as excited as ever.
Balto was beginning to get dizzy so he grabbed Kodi and sat him down in front of him "Now tell me what has go you so excited?" Balto asked with a questioning face.
Kodi's tail began throwing up snow "I'm going to be on the mail team!"
Balto smiled as his tail began to wag as well "That's great Kodi, were going to have to tell your mother." he said before nuzzling his son's neck.
The two got up and headed towards Jenna's house. "Don't stay up to late Kodi!" Zack yelled as he watched the two disappear out of sight. He smirked to himself "The last thing you need to do is show up tired for your first day." he then headed home himself.
The next morning Zack awoke to something tickling every part of his face. He opened his eyes to a mass of white fur; he sat up and smiled seeing Kodi lying there fast asleep. Zack then slowly and quietly got out of bed and headed down stairs to make breakfast.
Kodi woke up about 20mins latter to an amazing smell coming from down stairs. He sniffed the air and a smile grew across his face "Mmmmm bacon." He quickly made his way down to the kitchen to find Zack cooking up a storm by the stove. Kodi walked over and rubbed up against Zack's leg.
Zack looked down when he felt something touch him "Morning their buddy" he scritched Kodi's head before carrying the pan over to the table "Your just in time to." Zack scooped out and place the food on two plates, then placed them at two separate chairs.
Kodi was drooling at this point and jumped up in his chair, and quickly woofed down his food. He licked off the plate making sure he didn't miss a thing. "Did you enjoy that Kodi" Zack smiled only about half way through his own plate. Kodi got up and sat next to Zack giving him pleading look. "This is mine" Zack looked away, Kodi whined and placed his head on Zack's lap. Zack looked back at Kodi smiling "I hate it when you do that, it makes me putty in your paws." He placed the plate on the floor where Kodi quickly cleaned it off.
Zack gave Kodi a good scritch behind the ears before heading back upstairs to change clothes. He returned a few minutes latter to find Kodi waiting by the door, his tail wagging furiously. "Well I see your read to go." Kodi barked happily in response. Zack opened the door, and the two headed off towards the post office.
When they got there Zack went over to talk to Mr. Simpson about where their running mail to, when, and anything else pertaining to Kodi. Kodi slowly made his way over to a group of 5 dogs he hadn't met before. He stopped behind them, and he wanted to make a good impression so it took him a second to figure out what to say "Hello my names Kodi, I'm joining the mail team today."
All the dogs turned around and gave Kodi questioning and not so happy stares. This caused Kodi to fold back his ears and back up a little. The other dogs only managed to keep their faces for a couple more seconds before they all burst out laughing. Kodi cocked his head to the side wondering what the hell was going on. The biggest of the group a brown and tan giant malamute walked over in front of Kodi "Sorry about that, we were just having a little fun. You really should have seen the look on your face it was priceless." he began to laugh hard again.
Kodi just stared at him with a slight look of disgust "But that wasn't funny."
The other dog gave Kodi a smile "Lighten up rookie, you have a sense of humor pulling a sled otherwise your going to burn yourself out." Kodi looked at him, and realized this dog was smarter then he looked. "My names Kirby by the way" he said as he sat down next to Kodi placing a paw around him. "And that's Dust, Ralph, they have a thing for each other. Jack, and Gram." he pointed each out in turn.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all." Kodi smiled now feeling welcome.
Just then Mr. Simpson walked over "Ok lets get hooked up every one." The dogs stood next to their respective spots next to the harnesses, while Kodi waited so he could learn his spot. He was shocked when he realized that the only spot left was in front right next to Kirby who was lead. He shakily walked over and stood next to his spot as well.
Kirby looked over at Kodi "Wow you must be good if he thinks you should be up here already." Kodi could only smile in return.
Zack knelt next to Kodi ruffling his head fur "Don't be nervous Kodi, you were born to do this." He then helped Kodi into his harness then pulling him into a hug "Good luck today buddy." He stood up just as Mr. Simpson finished hooking Kirby up "Have a safe run." Zack shook Mr. Simpson's hand before getting out of the way.
"Mush" Mr. Simpson yelled causing Kodi to try and dart off but only to be pulled kept back a little by the rest of the team. He matched their pace as they quickly made their way out of sight. Kodi smiled the whole way knowing this is what he wanted to do.
