#2 of Claiming a Mate

Alright just so everyone is clear, this series of stories are based off the cartoon

Alright just so everyone is clear, this series of stories are based off the cartoon Godzilla: the Series and not the films or the original cartoon by Hannah Barbara. It has been expressed that there was some confusion, and I am just clearing that up.

A Reminder Why

'Are you alright Randy?' Mendel asked, looking over the top of Nigel at the young hacker. It was strange to see the teenager staring out the bases' windows, out at the bay. Picking up a coupled of scattered paperclips, Mendel resorted to foolishness and tossed them.

'Ah!' Randy cried as the small pieces of metal bounced of his face, one coming to close to one of his eyes for his liking. Rubbing the offended area, Randy glared at the scientist. 'What, Doc?'

Mendel stood, moving around his prized robot to stand in front of his co worker. 'What is wrong with you Randy? You've continually phased out several times in the last week.'

'So? I've got things on my mind.'

Mendel crossed his arms. 'You're distracted.'

'No I'm not.'

'I have to agree with Mendel on this one, Randy.' Randy looked up and watched as Nick Tatopoulos made his way out of the back rooms. He had to look away as his boss's dark brown eyes pinned him. 'You've been acting strange ever since you installed that camera in Godzilla's lair. Randy did-'

'I'm fine, jefe,' Randy growled. Shoving his seat back, he made his way out onto the balcony. 'There's nothing wrong with me!' he shouted back over his shoulder.

He walked up against the edge and leaned against the barrier. The dark murky waters of the bay were still, gulls circling above tourist barges as they slowly made their way. Randy watched the water, well aware that somewhere beneath the glassy surface Godzilla was lurking. He could practically feel those red eyes watching him. Shivers raced their way through his body as ghostly memories of what happened two weeks ago came to the forefront of his mind.

The doors behind him opened and closed again. Randy stiffened, bracing himself for more disapproval of his behaviour.

He hadn't been able to help himself. Over the past two weeks, he had discovered that Godzilla could still communicate with him even if they were a fair distance from each other. He had woken up late at night to have Godzilla whispering to him-or as softly as a 180ft mutated lizard could whisper-sending his libido to uncomfortable heights. With no way other than his hand to relieve himself, Randy had not been a happy camper.

The hand on his shoulder caused him to jump. Turning his head, he found Nick staring at him.

'are you sure you're okay?' Nick asked, leaning beside his friend.

Randy nodded, saying, 'Yeah, jefe. I'm just a little rattled at the moment.'

'How come?'

Think fast, Randy!'you know how you sent me down to install that camera?' Nick nodded, so Randy continued, if somewhat reluctantly, 'Well on the way down, Godzilla caught up with me. I think he knew it was me, but decided to play a game of Cat and Mouse. Kinda' shook me up, you know?'

Nick nodded, frowning at the thought. Godzilla had never acted in such an aggressive way before. 'Do you think you're up to this next mission?'

Randy perked up. 'Absolutely. Where're we heading?'

'New Mexico.'

Grinning, the young hacker nodded. 'I'll meet you at the HEAT Seeker.'

Nick nodded, and headed off. Randy went to follow him, but the deep purring voice that filled his mind froze him in place. .: Cat and Mouse, hmm. So that is what we were doing. Perhaps, after the Threat has been taken care of, I will steal you away for another game, my mate. :.

Randy shivered, glaring back at the water as a dark shadow slipped away into the deeper water. His response was a deep chuckle.

.o.O.o.

Several hours later...

Randy shiver, unable to keep from flinching as Elise stitched closed the gash that ran the length of his arm. The pain had faded behind the barrier the pain medication had formed though his arm continually throbbed. If it wasn't for the fact that Monique was holding his arm, Randy would have jerked away a long time ago.

He couldn't remember how many times Monique had told him not to play a hero. Like all those times before, he hadn't listened. The giant scorpion, similar to Ts-eh-Go, had been terrorizing a small village. If he had not acted, several children would have died beneath the large claws. The gash he had suffered wasn't as bad as it could have been. The two children had clung to him as they had taken shelter behind a large pile rubble. It hadn't been enough, though, and the three of them would have been arachnid food if Godzilla hadn't arrived.

Everyone in HEAT had agreed that Godzilla had come because of the danger Nick had been in, but Randy knew better. Nick hadn't been in any danger when Godzilla arrived. Randy had been the one. He had felt his... mate's... rage. Through the pain, Randy had managed to look up. Godzilla had been looking him over. It hadn't taken much to tell the mutation was pissed beyond belief.

With a snarl, Godzilla had launched himself straight into the fight. It had been a short fight, but a brutal one. Godzilla had emerged with several deep gashes and puncture wounds, while the scorpion would never move again.

'You are a fool,' Monique scolded once Elise had finished. 'You could have been killed, and jeopardised the whole-'

'Take it easy, French-fry. He was only trying to help,' Elise shot back, striping the gloves from her hands.

'No, she's right,' Randy said, astonishing both females as he stood. 'I'm gonna... go... walk or something.'

He left, not noticing the looks of pure surprise and worry that followed him out.

.o.O.o.

.: Randy? Love what are you doing out here? :.

Randy glance up. He had followed a poorly maintained path for a while before diverting to a small cove. The water had drawn him, maybe as much as the lizard resting within it. Godzilla was alone, seeing how Nick was running damage control. Godzilla was lying on his uninjured side, chin resting upon the beach. Crimson eyes followed Randy's progress, narrowing at the white bandaging around his mate's left arm.

'Are you alright?' Randy asked, moving into the surf to get a better look at Godzilla. The gashes had healed over, but still looked pretty raw. Randy had never felt so small, so helpless than he had right then.

Godzilla shifted, turned his head towards his mate. .: I am fine, Randy. There is no need to worry about me. :.

Randy shook his head. 'You were hurt because of me.'

.: I chose to protect you and those two hatchlings, Randy. :. Godzilla growled. .: I would not sit idly by and let my mate be harmed. I could never lose you. :.

Randy waded through the shadows, coming right up to Godzilla. Hesitant, unsure if his touch was welcome, Randy reached up as high as he could with his good arm and scratched as hard as he could. Godzilla leaned over his mate, nuzzling him gently purring at the feel of his mate's delicate skin against his own hard scales.

A few moments of silence encompassed the two.

'Why did you choose me?' Randy finally asked. The question had been going round inside his skull for the last couple of days. Why would such a powerful, majestic creature ever choose something as puny and worthless as him.

Godzilla pulled back, looking down at his mate. Rumbling, he brought one claw up to cup around Randy's small body. He leaned in, jaws parting. Licking Randy's face, Godzilla reached through the bond he knew was forming between them. His mate was distressed. His first instinct was sooth, calm his mate's mind and body.

Randy gasped at the feelings that invaded his mind. His body shook as something far greater, a far more immense swept around his consciousness. He felt as if he had been dropped into an ocean of feeling, everything pressing in on him with no escape. And yet, he felt completely safe.

.: Randy. I chose you because you are perfect for me. In all the years I have known you, you never lost faith in me. You fought alongside Father for me. And, no matter how you try to hide it, I know that you love me just as much as I love you. :.

Godzilla leaned in, licking Randy while being cautious of his mate's injured arm. Through the bond, he pulled the teenager into a hug. .: Never doubt that I love you, Randy. I do. And I will never allow you to come to harm. :.

His heart beating hard against his ribs, Randy could only nod. Since his parents had died, he hadn't known love. He was just glad to know it now, no matter what form it came in.

Leaning in, Randy pressed his head against Godzilla's jaw. He took a deep breath. 'I love you too, Godzilla.'
