~ Chapter 11 ~

I stood by the window in Cade's bedroom smoking a cig. The early morning was giving way to mid-morning. Out Cade's window and through the trees lining the property division was the house next door. No windows on their side. A warming breeze signaled the humid day to come but for right now I was trying to wrest my eyes and mind from one of the most peaceful night's sleep I've gotten in a while.

"Here," Cade offered me a water bottle, cold, from his mini fridge. I gulped it down thirstily. With my body refreshed, I embraced him and kissed him. "Sweet dreams?"

"Nah. Didn't have any." I chuckled dryly.

"That's too bad."

I didn't correct him. "Shower?"

"Oh hell yeah. My fur is all matted, dried in clumps, tangled, and god knows what else!"

"Sorry," I admitted, sheepishly.

"Did you hear me complain?" Cade laughed. With a nip of my chin and a return squeeze, he led me, both of us still naked, to the bathroom where he grabbed the towels from the night before.

It was a large bathroom with two sinks separated from the toilet and bathtub by another doorway. Cade closed both and started the shower. Almost instantly and with a slightly refreshing heat the shower covered the smaller room in clouds of steam. The sliding tub doors fogged up and fat beads of moisture ran in small rivers down the inside. We got in.

There was more space than I had perceived. With the doors closed, the steam became thicker and ethereal. It was the dream that I didn't have.

We took turns under the shower head, running our hands across one another to knead out the tangles and wash away the excitement of the previous night. I was in a perpetual afterglow, feeling every movement and twitch of Cade against my fur. Against my skin.

We shampooed each other in the same manner, coming close to nose each other, giving quick nips and nibbles, and embracing tightly. The water never cooled.

As a final groom, sensual in its own right, we brushed out the final knots in each other's fur, still in the shower. Electric trails tingled as the long teeth teased through my fur and connected to flesh. As the comb flowed downwards, my nerves shot signals upwards with lightning speed. As soon as he was done, I returned the favor with equal intensity.

We stepped out of the shower and Cade pulled a couple more towels from a tall dresser. Same as before we took turns wiping each other down. As the door to the sinks was opened, steam escaped and the air turned sharply cold. Cade pulled out a hair-dryer and I became warm again, albeit only where the dryer passed over and also where Cade's lips stopped.

"We forgot our clothes in your room," I pointed out to Cade as I was drying him off, paying attention to the crevices of his body, making him giggle.

"Stop that! Yeah, I forgot about those. I can finish up here if you want to grab them."

Stepping out into the hallway I turned back to Cade saying, "Okay, I'll -"

There was a scream, or at least a very loud gasp, from behind me and I turned to see a wide-eyed female Canan. She had just came up the stairs and I was -

"Oh shit!" I dived back into the bathroom remembering that I had left our towels on the counter of the sinks.

"What's wrong?" Cade called to me as quickly shut the door behind me.

The door vibrated with the pounding of the female's fists as she yelled, "Hey! Who are you? Get out of my house! I'm gonna call the cops!"

"Becky!?" Cade answered, incredulously.

"Caleb?" a muffled reply replaced the loud banging on the door.

He slowly opened the door as I hid behind it.

"Who you got in there?" Becky sounded surprised and amused.

"Can you go away, please?" Cade scolded Becky curtly.

"Does mom and dad know?"

"Becky! Go away! We have to get dressed!"

"Ooohh..." Becky laughed, "I'm going, I'm going."

Cade closed the door and counted to five silently, rolling his eyes and mouthing the numbers, looking perturbed. We wrapped our waists with towels and headed to his room. A tv sounded from what I could guess was Becky's room.

"Not a way I would have wanted you to meet my sister," Cade sighed as we entered his room and he locked the door.

"Your parents don't know?" I felt out.

"That I'm gay? Yeah, they do. That I have a boyfriend? No. Not really their business. Did you tell any of your family?"

I paused, "Yeah, no I didn't tell anyone."

He picked up my clothes from the floor, withholding my underwear from me, playfully. I tackled him and we rolled on his floor. After a bit, we got dressed and made our way down stairs.

"We're in here!" Becky's voice called out.

"Caleb, food's on the table. Bring your friend!" an older female's voice followed.

Cade sighed and shot me his perturbed look again and called back, "Coming!" I followed him into a joined kitchen and dining area. The smell of eggs & bacon awoke my grizzly-stomach and I quickly ignored the once-over glance the Wolvenne assessed me with and sat at the table politely. Cade followed with another annoyed look, this time directed at me. I shrugged sheepishly and patted my stomach.

"Hi, I'm Rita," Cade's mom addressed me with a skillet of eggs and bacon. She directed me to a couple of slices of toast and honey on the table.

I stood up, aware of my informalities and shook her free hand, "I'm Aaron. Nice to meet you."

Rita smiled warmly, "Caleb's never told us he had a friend." Her slight emphasis on 'friend' made me blush in embarrassment. I fought the urge to make eye contact with Cade and did my best to smile back. Her eyes seemed to find answers from me without her asking any questions and I helplessly stood there trying to think of a way out.

"The eggs smell delicious," I eeked out.

"Well don't let me keep you from a hearty meal, Aaron. I'm going to see what's keeping the man of the house." Lighter on her feet than I assumed of a creature of her figure, Rita left the kitchen.

"I hate you," Cade snapped at Becky who was busy cleaning her own plate. "I don't tell mom and dad about your boyfriends before you show them off."

With a mischievous grin and puffing her chest out proudly, Becky shot back, "But this is the first time you've brought your booooyfriend home; at least a guy who wasn't just a high school crush. " She nonchalantly raised a glass of orange juice, "Guess I got a little too excited for you."

I sat, eating politely but quickly, and silently as they bickered, doing my best to make my food and myself disappear.

"You done?" Cade asked me as I nabbed the last bit of bacon on my plate. He led me to the front door and gave me a tight hug. "I'm sorry about Becky and my mom. I didn't think we were that late waking up.

"It's okay," I smiled at him, hopefully reassuringly, "At least I got a good meal in."

He handed me some cash for the buses. I kissed him lightly and took off.

I arrived at my apartment and changed clothes, thinking about the past few hours. I couldn't fault Cade for being annoyed, but at the same time it was cute to see his family interact. I could have gone without giving Becky something to talk about, but at least I made a good first impression. It made me wonder how I would have dealt with an older sister, or any sibling for that matter. She seemed spunky enough and it was cool Cade's family were quick to accept me - or us.

I laid back on my couch and turned the t.v. on, laughing at how I must've looked to Becky; scared as shit. She reminded me of somebody, but I couldn't quite figure out whom...

Then it came to me.

It all came back to me.

I flung myself upwards and off the couch as if it was suddenly on fire. My heart threatened to burst out of my chest and I felt like I was hyperventilating.

I ran into my bedroom and grabbed my cell phone, dialing Cade's number.

The nightmare became memory and I saw the whole thing. My knees shook as I paced out into the living room.

"Hey hon, what's up?" Cade's tinny voice answered cheerfully.

"Cade," I choked back tears, trying not to let panic overwhelm me. My voice caught in my throat.

"You okay?" He sounded worried.

"I...." I stopped myself. A whimper escaped my lips. Finally, in a torrent that superseded any cogent thought, I burst into tears and yelled, "Cade, I need you here!"
