Powder

Zack never really had a name. His friends always called him "Powder" and even his parents started calling him this because of his insane snowboarding skills. Zack was sitting in the snow, looking down the curves of the mountain and twists and turns. People were going up the skyhook to the top, he was already up. "Hey, look who it is! It's Powder! What's up man?" Said a voice near Zack as he was sitting down on top of the slope that will take him all the way down the mountain he was on. It was one of the dangerous and trickiest. Zack prepared though, he had goggles to keep snow from drifting into his eyes, a long sleeve shirt that was red and had a white splash across it and black snowboarding pants. His snowboard was lying in the snow, unharmed and shimmering in the mountain's bountiful sunlight. His emergency backpack was on his back just in case anything happened.

Zack flipped his goggles up on his forehead when he heard the voice and looked over to see his friend Sam. Zack noticed that Sam had his goggles over his eyes. He was going to go down the mountain too. "Oh and Zack, fun fact of the day, eleven people were lost and never found going down this mountain." Said Sam, patting Zack on the back lightly and grinning. "Gees a bundle of joy you are." Zack said, looking down the mountain at awe and fear. Zack gulped.

Zack felt the cold wind from the mountain pass over him, filling him with a cold warmth and numbness. Zack noticed a man was heading down the mountain and took a jump at about twenty miles an hour and face planted. Zack could not help but snicker. "This is such an unforgiving mountain." Zack thought. Sam seemed to know what he was thinking. "Don't laugh at that poor soul, that could be you face planting in a few minutes." Sam said plainly. He is right. This mountain could get a chance of injuring anyone crazy enough to go down it. Zack had the courage and the crazy. "I think I can handle it Sam." Zack said and looked over his shoulder to see Sam already putting his snow board on his feet. "Alright then. Cocky much?" Sam joked. Zack grinned at his comment. "No, just adrenaline pumped." Zack said as he heard Sam click in his feet to the snowboard and flip down his goggles.

Zack got up off the snow bank and wiped his pants off, showering snow back down onto the bank. It glowed in the sunlight, like it was taunting him. "Well Zack, I'm off!" Sam said as he jumped down the bank and rode down the mountain. Sam hit a jump and did a 360, spewing snow everywhere. Zack could hear Sam yelling down the mountain and then lost him as Sam trailed down. Zack felt adrenaline pump through his system as he stepped onto his board and clicked his feet in. "Why am I doing this?" Thought Zack. Zack's heart started to pump faster as he leaned over the bank, looking down the snow covered mountain. "Three, two, one..." Zack mumbled and then he jumped and pulled down his goggles.

The mountain was beautiful and the snow was packed just right to get the maximum speed. No trees, no rocks, it was perfect for now. Zack turned the snowboard right to dodge a jump he did not feel like taking and snow flew everywhere. Wind flew by Zack's head and streamlined him, making him go even faster. His snowboard reacted well to turns and curves and easily maneuvered through a quarter of the mountain. "Ya, almost to the bottom!" Thought Zack as he started to see trees coming his way. He still had a while to go.

Zack started to make his way into a forest on a mountain and started to slow himself down. Branches flew by his head in green blurs and the sun disappeared in the foliage, making it harder to see. Zack followed a path where the trees were nowhere near him but felt a branch skim his neck. The mark turned red and started to sting. Zack put his hand up to his neck to see if he was bleeding. He was not so he kept on going. Fog started to set because of the uneven temps and Zack realized he could not go on when he ran into an evergreen tree, feeling the needles hit his face. Zack was lying on the snow, trying to yell for help but couldn't.

Zack put his hands on the snow and pushed himself up to a standing position, holding is arm in pain. It was broken and Zack looked around for shelter and noticed a cave inside the forest, hidden by trees and brush. Zack leaned down and grabbed his snowboard, emergency backpack, and the rest of his gear, heading towards the cave. When Zack entered the cave, he was amazed at how much detail was put into it by nature. The walls were made of ice due to the leaking of water and the water freezing. Zack then noticed a figure was on the floor but not moving. Zack, curiously walking towards the figure, noticed it was not human but a husky with human qualities. Zack noticed it was unconscious and took nervous steps towards it and put a hand on its chest. It was completely black except for its tail tip, muzzle, chest, and paws.

Its chest was warm because of the insulation it had on then Zack left the creature at peace and walked further into the cave, feeling the ice surrounding the cave with his uninjured arm. Zack then heard a ruffling sound behind him to see the creature was awake. It yawned and opened its yellow eyes to see an intruder has ventured into its cave. It stood up on two legs and started to walk towards Zack but not in a menacing way but curious. Zack, out of fear for his life, broke off a piece of an ice sickle hanging from the ceiling using it almost like a sword and held it in front of him. "Don't make any sudden moves." Zack warned but felt in vain considering the creature he was going up against was three feet bigger than him. Zack started to tremble.

The creature, hearing these words cocked its head sideways and looked a Zack and blinked. It started to walk towards him and pushed the ice sickle with his paw down. "You look cold and injured. Perhaps some assistance is required?" The husky said calmly. Zack dropped the ice sickle, speechless and astounded. He thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head. "Did you just...talk?" Zack said awkwardly and surprisingly as he lowered his guard. "Why yes I did. Is there a problem?" The husky looked back at Zack with his eyebrow up and grinning, showing his fangs. "Why don't you follow me into the cave? I got a remedy for your broken arm there." The husky said as he pointed a claw to Zack's arm. Zack, feeling there was no other place to go, took the husky's invitation plus he was curious to see how this husky could stand on two legs.

"How did you come straight out of unconsciousness like that?" Asked Zack curiously. "Oh I was not unconscious; I was sleeping but was awakened when I heard footsteps and yelling. I felt a hand touch my fur on my chest but never stood up so I would not scare you." The husky said as he got up and munched on a piece of ice. The Husky's tail was swirly and Zack felt the need to play with it all of a sudden but shook the thought away. "So how did you end up here anyway?" Asked the husky as he munched on a piece of ice. "Snowboarding accident." Said Zack plainly. "Ahh yes, speaking of that topic..." Said the husky as he stood up and walked over to Zack's arm and lightly tapped it with his paw.

Zack felt his arm grow hot and then back to its normal state and started to move it. "Wow, this is amazing!" Zack exclaimed as he moved and waved his arm back and forth, it was perfectly healed. "It's a gift from the cave and nature around me to be able to heal small wounds and broken bones. Unfortunately, there is a catch though..." The husky said as he sat back down. "You have to become part of nature itself." The husky said. "Wha-what do you mean become part of nature?" Zack stuttered fearfully. The husky grinned, "Sorry but it's the rules, you see I have become generally lonely up on the mountain here and am in need of a companion to talk to. You just stumbled in here and I took you in." The husky said as he put a finger to his chest.

Zack felt warmth again but this time it was everywhere. He felt himself begin to grow out and fur sprout across his body. The black fur inched up his feet and ankles as Zack's eyes widened in surprise. Zack felt calm and embraced what he was turning into; this could actually be his one way ticket to freedom from his normal life and turn into an adventure. Zack started to smile as the fur on his chest. He felt his nose start to move out and turn into a muzzle. The fur on his muzzle turned white also and his teeth started to turn jagged and sharp. Zack felt his feet move forward as paws started to form and turn white as snow. Claws started to replace finger nails and ears started to form on his head. Zack heard rips and tears as his clothes started to tear and fall off and fur started to cover him. His chest formed into muscle and shape his body into a weapon. A tail formed and the tip turned white and it was over. His transformation from human to animal was done.

"So, how do you feel brother?" The husky said as he walked over and patted the newly formed Zack strongly on the back. Zack coughed as he felt the power in the husky. "Never been better." Said Zack grinning. "Good, I feel you should meet the rest of the pack in the cave. They would want to meet the newcomer." The husky said as he smiled warmly at Zack. "Don't worry, they don't bite." The husky said jokingly. Zack looked at his new form and felt the softness of his fur, ears, and tail. He noticed his newly gained muscles and flexed them. He was not overly muscular just athletic. Zack then noticed his vision was increased and could see everything even clearer. Zack never had a family anyway, he always lived at the snow lounge because the manager took him in and they did not give a damn about him. He finally had a family now.

"Oh and your friend Sam will be notified about your transformation and we will see what he thinks about joining us. We will notify him in the forest and tell him about you." The husky grinned. Zack stopped and thought for a moment, his tail swishing the floor of the cave. That's where the eleven people went missing. The husky took them in and healed them. They then transformed and never went back to the snow lounge. Zack then caught back up to the husky that did this for him. "I never asked for your name but I might as well ask now." Zack said curiously. "So what is your name?" The husky turned around to answer Zack's question. "You can call me Nova." Nova walked down the cave and Zack followed him, wondering how Sam will react to the new news.
