#7 of Two Friends

Hello there, Traska here.

What I have for you is a lost chapter in Two Friends. It was originally written to be an 8 chapter series, but I shortened it down and made it into 6 chapters. This lost chapter is chapter 4 of the original 8.

Originally when I wrote it Mark and Tom where living separate from each other, until I came in one day and decided that they were both going to live with each other (not remembering that they were originally weren't). So when I went back to edit and polished it, I decided that Chapter 4 was not needed (I'll let you decide). I felt like Chapter 4 was being too overly redundant, but went more into depth of Tom's life. Since it didn't make the final cut I wanted it to see the light of day... unedited for you all to see.

So without further a due I bring you, Two Friends [The Lost Chapter]

Chapter 4

Mark sighed and walked through the dark hall towards Tom's room. He knocked on the door and opened it. Tom heard his door open and grabbed the nearest object he could reach, which was his alarm clock, and threw it at Mark. The clock flew across the room towards Mark; Mark ducked behind the door as the clock thumped against it. It shattered and fell on the floor.

"Tom," Mark said softly.

"Go away!" Tom yelled as he buried his head on his pillow. "Obviously you don't want me anymore! Just go away and leave me alone, nobody wants me anymore; I hate my life!"

"Tom, you know that's not true."

"Yes it is!" Tom yelled in frustration as he lifted his head to look at Mark. "My parents never loved me. Every day they told me that they didn't want me, that I was useless, and that they never wanted to see me ever again when I move out. You know that's true, Mark. They kicked me out on my eight-tenth birthday. And now I probably won't graduate."

"Mark, if nobody loved you why did I help you out? Why did my family agree to help you? Why are you here living with me? Is it because we hate you?" Tom flopped back on his pillow. Mark walked over and sat down next to Tom on his bed. He then placed a hand on Tom's shoulder. "Tom, you're going through a hard time right now. It'll get better, trust me."

"When?!" Tom cried. "When will it get better?!" Mark drew in a deep breath.

"It might be tomorrow, it might not be until a couple of years from now." Mark rubbed Tom's shoulder and patted it. "You just have to be patient."

"I all ever wanted was to be happy, and when I met you I was. Now I have nothing left, my life is meaningless now." Mark pulled Tom up to a sitting position. They both looked into each other's eyes. A tear rolled down Tom's cheek and he looked away, Mark leaned in and gave Tom a hug.

"It's ok."

"No it's not," Tom muffled.

"Yes it is."

"Why can't you just be with me? I want you," Mark did not answer. Tom pulled away and rubbed the tears away from his eyes. Mark grabbed Tom's chin and turned his head. Tom gazed into Mark's eyes. "I was happy," Tom said softly.

"I know," Mark replied. "I just don't think that this is right for us."

"What do you mean it's not right for us; what makes you think that if we never even kissed or do anything like that with each other?" Mark took another deep breath and wipe away a tear from Tom's cheek. "I should just kill myself," Tom added.

"No, you shouldn't. Just because you're going through a bump in your life doesn't mean that you should quit."

"It would make my parents happy. I've been on a very steep hill all my life and there is no sign of it leveling out or climbing."

"It doesn't matter, Tom. This is just the beginning of your life."

"And the end, I'm not sure if I'm going to graduate. There are three school days left, how am I supposed to bring my grades up by then?"

"Well," Mark started. "For one thing skipping a day of school isn't going to help." Tom looked back down at his feet. Mark lifted Tom's head back up again. Tom sighed and sniffed; he looked around the room and stood up. Mark watched Tom intently. Tom silently glided towards his window and parted his drapes. He squinted past the bright light and looked out into the woods that were a part of their backyard. "What are you thinking of?" Tom said nothing.

"Do you want me to leave?" Mark added as he got up and walked towards Tom and stood behind him. Tom nodded. "Ok." Mark hugged Tom one last time and left Tom standing by the window. Mark stood by the door and looked back at Tom. He sighed and closed the door.

The door closed and Tom was alone again.
