Writing this story was alot of fun and I enjoyed making this chapter of Day X! I also had a charcter plug in for I Are Soldier Fox. He is David, a military guard for the bridge. I really had a fun time making this one! Enjoy! Vote, and comment so I can figure out what I did wrong!

Day X: Heartless (End of Jake Right's Story)

Jake felt sunlight pierce the blinds in his room, showering him in warmth. Jake got up out of bed in his gym shorts and tee shirt and stretched, rubbing his eyes. It has been about four days since X. Riots have spawned and people are rebelling against the government, thinking it's a weapon that backfired.

Jake reached for his back pocket and pulled out a 9mm pistol, pulling the recoil back putting a bullet in the chamber. Jake then but the gun back in his pocket and walked downstairs to see Elaine, Sam, and Miss Lilly each eating breakfast. An extra chair was pulled up to the table for him. Jake took the seat by Elaine. The pancakes were good though.

After everyone was done eating, Jake suggested to go back to the bridge so the group could get across to their parents. Everyone gladly agreed. Miss Lilly said afterwards, "I have decided that we must part ways. I have someone I wish to meet on the other side." We nodded and decided that if this is the way it must be then so be it. Miss Lilly said that if the group needs somewhere to rest that this place was open. Jake, Sam, and Elaine thanked her. Miss Lilly left the house early and departed. We were sad to see her go.

Jake decided to go back to his room to pack up and walked back up the stairs to his room, feeling the carpet in between his feet with every step. Jake entered the door to his room and looked on his dresser to see a few magazines of ammo. He took them and grabbed the baseball bat in the corner, feeling the weight of the wood in his hand.

"I really don't want to use this..." Jake thought. Jake grabbed a back pack and put clothes and supplies into it but noticed something out of the corner of his eye, a black snake. Jake felt fear but started to walk towards it, his bat raised. He lunged at it, hoping to kill it but missed and the snake lunged at him and bite his leg, injected the non-venomous poison into his blood stream. "Ahh!" Jake yelled felling the fangs sink into his skin then let go. The black snake slithered off and down the stairs.

Jake went over to his duffel bag and pulled out a band aid, putting it lightly over the snake bite. "Much better." Jake mumbled. He then put the rest of the essentials in the back pack, feeling the sting of the poison. Jake started to stand up and felt the weight of his leg increase and throb. He kneeled back down and waited until the throbbing stopped, then walked downstairs to the group.

"What happened to you?" Asked Sam curiously when he saw the band aid on Jake's leg. "Encounter with nature." Said Jake, and Sam shrugged. Jake walked out to the garage and noticed a sports bike leaning on the wall. Jake grinned. Sam and Elaine both knew what he was thinking. "Good thing there are helmets on the wall." Sam joked and snickered. Elaine said she would rather take the armored car and rendezvous with them up there. Jake and Sam agreed.

Jake put on the black helmet over his head and Sam found a green one. Jake grabbed the keys sitting on a tool box leaning on the wall and jumped on the blue sports bike. Jake put the key in the ignition and felt the bike roar to life, feeling the motor surge and move the bike. "You sure you know how to drive this thing?" Sam said worryingly. "Were about to find out." Jake said back.

Jake revved the engine and moved his hand back, making the sports bike move forward. "I found the accelerator Sam." Jake grinned. Sam was digging his nails into the back of the motorcycle. Jake balanced himself out and gunned the accelerator, flying out of the garage at twenty miles an hour. Sam grabbed onto Jake's waist as they traveled toward the bridge.

Ten minutes later they were at the bridge, it was under control by many military personal and blockaded off. The infected before were dealt with and throne over the bridge, into the river bellow. No one was at the bridge; they were either dead or on the other side of the bridge. Jake stopped at the barricade and put the motorcycle in park by the entrance and noticed a guard walk over to the sports bike. His tag said David and he was holding an M16 rifle and wearing a standard military uniform with a helmet. "Sorry guys but I am going to have to check you for an infection." David's hazel eyes stared down at them, surveying them. After checking Sam and Jake's mouth, eyes, skin color, and items he let them pass, until he saw the snake bite.

"Where did you get the bite Jake?" David asked curiously. Jake turned around and said calmly, "Don't worry, it's not from the disease, it's from a snake." David did not believe Jake and insisted he stayed and waited until a doctor entered the area. Jake did not like this idea and started to argue but did not have time to argue long, all hell was about to break loose.

Elaine came in the armored car and stopped at the guard post, Jake smiled to himself when he saw Elaine pull up to the guard post unhurt. Elaine smiled through the window at Jake and waved. David redirected his attention to Elaine when a soldier from the opposite side of the bridge ran down to David and the rest of the people. "Infected are everywhere! They ambushed our team on the opposite side of the bridge and are breaking through our defenses!" David nodded and told Jake, Sam, and Elaine to stay put by the guard post as David ran down to join the others, his rifle snug in his hands. Elaine reached in the backseat of the car and grabbed a pistol and ran to Jake and Sam.

"We have to defend ourselves. We can't just wait here to die." Said Jake. Elaine and Sam looked at each other nervously but realized that this was the greatest option. Jake looked over at the guard post and noticed a table and on the table Jake's back pack and gear. Jake ran over to the table and opened the back pack and sighed in relief when he saw a pistol he packed in the bag before he left the house. Sam, at the same moment Jake was looking through the backpack, pulled a pistol out of his right pocket and grinned. "Where did you get that Sam?" Jake said and laughed nervously. This really was not the time for laughter. "Picked it up before we left." Sam said. "Oh and here..." Sam threw magazines of 9mm in Jake's direction and Jake caught them. "Thanks Sam." Jake said and smiled. Elaine was holding her pistol and waiting for the group to reassemble itself once again.

"You ready?" Jake asked. Sam and Elaine nodded and the group ran down the road of the bridge. As they ran, the afternoon sunlight warmed their faces and for once they felt at peace. The clouds moved over the sun, casting a shadow across the bridge and changing everything into a dark tint. A wind moved over the bridge and rustled the peace. "If only everything could be back to normal." Thought Jake, as the group ran down the road.

When they made it to the opposite side, they were encountered with bullets and the moaning and groaning of the damned. Jake ran over to a steel barrier where David was busy mowing down the infected with the M16 rifle. The cling of shells hitting the ground and the thud of numb bodies hitting the floor made Jake sick to his stomach. "When did you get here?!?" Said David surprisingly, "I told you to wait in the posts on the other side." Jake shook his head."It looks like you need help so I decided to come down." David was in no mood to argue.

"Fine but you better know what you're getting yourself into." David said while shooting at a zombie trying to claw its way into the barricade. Jake aimed the pistol and pulled the trigger hitting an infected male in the shoulder, making him stumble. "Damnit!" Jake mumbled. The infected then fell forward as a bullet mark appeared on its head. Jake looked over to see Sam and Elaine shooting rounds into the intruders as well. Jake looked back over at the infected side to see that they were getting more and more allies. They started to swarm the barricade. A man was tackled by one and bitten on the arm and died instantly. His eyes turned bloodshot as the virus started to spread into him. Elaine screamed as this happened and everyone started to retreat to the middle.

Jake started to run and noticed Sam and Elaine ahead of him, running to the middle of the bridge. David was behind Jake. Jake felt the pavement beneath him stop as he was grabbed on the leg as a zombie wrapped around him. Jake was shocked and the force made him drop the pistol. "Let go!" Jake yelled as he used his opposite foot as a weapon and kicked the infected person, blow after blow after blow. The infected women did not let go and bit him in the ankle, sending the virus into his blood stream. Jake started to feel woozy and could hear Elaine and Sam yelling but it was fading away. Soldiers moved over and held Sam and Elaine back as they tried to get to Jake but it was too late.

Then Jake felt something hold him up as he started to fall and noticed the zombie was not near him anymore but over on the side with a bullet wound in its head. David had his arm wrapped around Jake's shoulder and started to move him to the middle. Jake leaned on David for support and David nodded as Jake looked over at him. David smiled and started to walk him over to Elaine and Sam. The soldiers holding Elaine and Sam back let them go and David put Jake down on the pavement.

"I figured since you did not turn by now that I would save you." David grinned. In the background Jake could hear tanks and infantry moving in and Jake realized that reinforcement was called in. "It's not much but it's something." Said David calmly. Jake felt the bite were the infected person bite him slowly numb itself and throb. David got a role of tape and started to tape around the bite to keep blood from leaking out. Jake then got a spark of an idea. "The snake bite saved me!" Jake yelled and sat up but felt pain move threw his whole body and lay back down again.

"Whoa, lie back down and tell us about what you said." Said David soothingly, trying not to startle Jake into trauma. Jake started to explain how the poison of a snake is not venomous to humans but venomous to other certain creatures. David then got what Jake was saying. "Ahh I see now, the reason why you did not turn was the snake's poison destroyed the virus being injected by the infected person. This is revolutionary! This could stop the whole disease!" David said triumphantly. "We will get an escort as soon as possible to take you to a lab. They will look at the bite mark on your ankle and use the venom of the black snake to see if they get results. We will have to put you in quarantine just in case the poison from the snake is stopping the effects and not killing the virus." Jake nodded and asked if Sam and Elaine can come with him. David agreed to let Sam and Elaine go with Jake.

The venom did work and killed the virus in several tests. Jake Rights was proclaimed a hero by many people and helped find a vaccine to save humanity. Sam and Elaine both found out their parents were ok and reunited with them. Jake Rights figured out his parents were ok also but his Dad was bitten and given the first vaccine. It worked and his Dad was saved. Through the death and destruction, many infected people could not be saved and were lost forever in this chapter of humanity. The day the outbreak started was redeemed the title "Day X." This was the story of a few survivors, there are many more stories lost in time.
