Rivers cursed into acrid air that filled the T-72's driver compartment, frustrated by the complex series of movements that it took to operate the main battle tank's manual transmission. The levers were also a change for an American, used to the power-assisted ride of the M1A1 Abrams, but all together, he managed quite well for a first timer. Still, the unsettling creak of the tank's taxed suspension and condensation-obscured gauges were enough to give him the chills.

"Sacke, what's the story on those fire controls?" Keat questioned over the vehicle's intercom, having just figured out the controls to that device himself. Everything was in Russian, but the concept was the same all the way around, and the old Russian tank shared a bit more in technology with its American counterparts than they had assumed.

"Thermals are cooled down, and I have a sabot in the tube. I guess the auto-loader does its own thing. I don't know how to work the computer yet though, so let's hope that the Russians boresighted the damn thing before we took it." He responded, even more cramped in the lower-profile Russian machine than in his seat on the Abrams. Regardless of the machine's age, it had decently up to date fire controls, which appeared to him as if they were bolt-in add ons.

"There's a map down here, looks like the bulk of their forces are concentrated to our south east. By the sounds of the radio, it looks like they already started their offensive." PFC Rivers called up from the hole, tracing the grease marked lines.

"Powerhouse six, this is Ohio two-two, we've captured a T-72* and are moving to rally two-bravo." Keat reported over the radio, hearing an exhausted response from the radio watch on the other side. He lowered his head with the news that none of the other crews had made it back to the rear.

"I'm moving out now."

"Okay Rivers, just get us there in one piece."

"I don't like this tank. It's strange." Sacke commented, turning the turret and scanning the area with the 125mm cannon's powerful thermal sights.

"Nor do I." Keat responded, flipping his headset off for a moment to tune out the frantic combat radio chatter. Quiet replaced the noise, and everyone gave a sigh of relief. Jake popped his head up and out of the hatch, checking to make sure that they hadn't lost Wag in the truck behind them. He was just glad that the Russians to whom this equipment was assigned would not be bothering them again. He gave the M4 a reassuring pat where it rested next to him, knowing that it had served him well.

"Ohio two-two, this is Pirate six, over." An unfamiliar voice shot through the headset, making Keat jump in his seat. It wasn't normal for a six element from a different command to contact him unless something was up, and he'd never heard of a 'Pirate', either.

"Send it."

"Ohio two-two, divert to village at grid EH 4578. Assist friendly forces and nationalist Russians in the defense of highly sensitive equipment. Expect division-sized resistance at location. Be advised, your mission is now considered Top Secret."

"Roger Six, diverting."

After a while Jay didn't even bother to respond, instead answering with harsh shouts of pain as blow after blow connected with his already beaten body. His little tirade of looking outside only served to infuriate his captors even more, and they made sure that he knew just how angry they were.

Ade was powerless to do anything but struggle in the corner, unable to break the secured restraints in which she had been bound. The GRU soldier in charge of the torture ensured that she was entitled to the equal treatment, except she had the privilege of either combat boots or a metal baton that had been a token of the German police.

Jay found even more pain in her screams of agony, which he had to absorb through his own distorted haze. After a while they resorted to only kicking, asking pointless questions that neither of them could answer. Ade continued to grunt with each strike, shutting her eyes and gritting her teeth in an effort to block the pain.

"I am tired of this talk Sergeant Redfield. Where can I find your friends?"

"I already told you, I don't know." Jay shouted, feeling fresh blood seep from the cracked corners of his dried mouth. The Russian just smiled, rubbing his hands together and casing the two of them with quiet looks. After almost a full minute, he unsnapped the flap of his holster and pulled his Makarov PM out into the open.

"I think we can think of a different kind of motivation." He grabbed the back of Ade's head and pressed the cold steel barrel against the female Utahraptor's temple. She didn't cower, but instead she just sighed as if a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders. Jay could do nothing to intervene, but instead just watched the minute movement of the hammer as the Russian squeezed the pistol's trigger. It was as if everything was happening in slow motion.

A shout in guttural Russian hit his ears as one side of the tent ripped away and armed soldiers burst in. The GRU man pulled the pistol away from Ade's head in reflex, blinded by dozens of flashlight beams as the soldiers leveled their rifles. Jay was just as confused as his interrogator, unable to identify the men as he was blinded by the light. Redfield took the initiative and dove off of the chair just as gunfire ripped through the GRU soldier's body, exiting out of the opposite side of the tent with a trail of gore in tow. The pistol discharged into the floor, missing Ade's head by mere inches.

"Clear!" He understood the Russian on that one as two soldiers flanked him on either side. Jay's heart sank as he saw the Russian uniforms with Spetsnaz tabbing, realizing that he wasn't going to get away this time either. It dropped for a second time when he recognized Colonel Revedov's face amongst them.

"Revedov, so I'd assume it's you that has come to make me disappear. I'm surprised that Nymev himself didn't show himself." He spat, looking the Russian in the eyes that had pursued Meryl and himself since the start of the war, making his life a living hell. The Colonel waved his hand, ordering his subordinates from the tent. They were alone...

"Sergeant Redfield, we finally meet in person." Revedov responded, not bothered by Jay's sneering remark. He reseated the watch cap on his head before making eye contact with the NCO.

"Delighted." The remark finally came, smeared with defiance. However, something in Jay's head kept on being thrown off by his body language. He'd expected Revedov to be more defiant, more....angry. Instead he seemed nervous, looking back over his shoulder before pulling his knife from its sheath. Jay braced for the stab, but it never came. The Russian had moved around behind him, cutting off the bindings on Jay's wrists.

"Listen to me Sergeant Redfield, I need your help. I must make contact with someone in charge within your military."

"Why would you want to do that?" Jay wondered, confused even more as the Colonel moved to Ade, still holding his knife.

"Now, if I let you go Utahraptor, do you promise to behave?" He asked, bending down beside her and working on the buckles to the muzzle.

"And if I don't?" She asked, a hint of mischief evident in her voice.

"Then you will forfeit the lives of millions." Revedov laid out as he sliced the restraints, feeding the chain out through the loops before backing off. He watched her get to her feet, hearing bones crack from hours of inactivity. She stared him directly in the eye, watching as he turned back around to face Jay.

"Can you help me or not?"

"I don't believe you Colonel. You've been trying to kill me since June, how do I know that you've had a change of heart?" Jay asked, still feeling that he was in a good position of power. He did not expect Revedov to grab him and pull him to his feet so that they were eye to eye. Ade rumbled a growl behind him, which sent a shiver up Revedov's spine, but his resolve stood firm.

"How do you think Meryl and you are still alive right now? How did a Russian first aid kit magically appear at her feet? How did you ever get tipped to the location of those launchers?" The Colonel yelled, releasing Jay and storming away.

"How?"

"Because I made sure that they were there!"

The thought of this danced through Jay's head, making more and more sense as gaps were filled in that previously were unquestioned.

"So, why me?"

"When Colonel Nymev captured Audwin, I was present when he shot him. I spoke to him before he died. He told me that you weren't evil, neither you nor Meryl. I witnessed more evil on my own side and realized I have to help end this. For the sake of my wife and daughter. Nymev has gone completely mad."

"I could've told you that. May I have my weapons and gear back?"

"Yes, but we must make haste. Nymev is moving two brigades of fresh troops to the north of the bypass, destroying everything in his path. He had a load of chemical weapons delivered in Colditz yesterday, and we captured them. My intent is to take my men and defect."

"Get me my gear, and we'll talk."

Revedov called in his orderly from outside, already carrying his body armor, assault pack, and M4. As Jay put it on, Revedov waited patiently, studying his map.

"Comrade Colonel, we've got the GRU array back up and running. We are ready for your transmission." One of the other soldiers from outside reported, breathing heavily from running through the deep snow.

"Very well comrade, good work."

Jay followed Revedov out of the tent with Ade in tow, moving past the nonmoving forms of Spetsnaz soldiers. They all looked at him through curious eyes, nodding at their newfound ally. It was odd for Jay, used to seeing only the green tracers that were emitted from the ends of their rifles.

It didn't take long for Revedov to send his warning out through the airwaves, freeing up the array so that Jay could send his message back to Colonel Estes.

"Pirate six, Guardian two-six, I'm back, over." He called up, getting almost an immediate response from RSHCOM.

"Roger two-six, this is Pirate Estes, what is your situation?"

Jay checked his radio, confirming that the encryption bars were indeed present.

"Sir, I've been rescued by Russian Nationalist Forces under the command of Codename Revedov. They have several important packages that need to be secured in our hands."

"Roger two-six. Is Revedov available?"

Jay handed the microphone over to the colonel, whom promptly took it and responded.

"This is Revedov." He spoke in the heavily accented English that Redfield knew him for.

"Colonel Revedov, this is Colonel Estes. I want to thank you for getting Sergeant Redfield out of trouble. What do you have for us that is so important?"

"Chemical weapons, Comrade Colonel Estes. Nymev had them prepared to be sent to the front. I think he was preparing to deploy them with this attack."

"How big is it Colonel Revedov?"

"He is reinforcing with two brigades from Chechnya as the spearhead, but his artillery support is limited. There is already a division past the forward line of troops, headed up past the bypass on a northwesterly direction."

"I'll make sure that information makes it to the right people. Put Sergeant Redfield back on please."

"Yes Sir, here he is."

"Sergeant, Meryl is in a village called Sonnet. They are about to be hit by this division head on. They're tangling with the recon picket now, but the main force is about three hours out. We're trying to get troops out there, but we can't muster a ton at a time. Get to Sonnet and back up the RSH forces there, protect any sensitive equipment, and ask Revedov to help. I'm ordering a hodgepodge of separated troops that way too, so be on the lookout for them." Estes reported, throwing a pair of grid coordinates out a moment later. He looked back at Revedov, whom had been studying him the whole time.

"Where are we going?"

"I need your help Colonel."

"I know, I heard. Meryl is in trouble."

"Correct. Apparently they're about to get hit. We need to get out there and assist in the defense of a village about an hour north of here." Redfield pointed to the map at a singular point in the middle of the forest, noting an unpleasant reaction in Revedov.

"I know that village. My countrymen call it 'the village of shade', because they can't seem to get any accurate satellite coverage of it. We lost a company of troops near there in the fall, and ever since, we stay away."

"How were they killed?"

All Revedov did was point at Ade's claws....

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Meryl and Durin stood unmoving, watching the woodline and waiting for the first signs of the coming Russian attack. Minutes slowed just as they always did when waiting became involved, leaving Meryl with time to sit and think. So much had transpired since her unexpected arrival in Sonnet, yet the female still felt as if she was back to square one with the leader of the vigilante troops. Regardless of their previous conversation, Meryl could still feel a bit of resentment for her actions. Hopefully, it would pass with time.

At least Jay was okay......

She nearly cried from relief when she heard the news from Estes himself. And Revedov of all people was the one to free him! Things had definitely turned upside down in her world, but so far, during this war that would be considered normal.

"Have your soldiers been briefed?" Meryl turned and asked Durin, making sure that no one would open fire on the convoy as it entered the first defensive line.

"Yes, they know that these Russians mean us no harm. We are fully mobilized already, so they can't try anything even if they wanted too." Durin answered, watching over his compatriots milling back and forth as they completed various tasks. She saw both worry and contempt in his eyes, combat stress taking a hard toll before the battle even began.

The male had slipped back into his old armor, which was worn through and through by hard use. The set that he had gotten from Colonel Estes was nowhere to be found. Three black stripes ran along the spine of his vest, sticking out as if they had been done yesterday. They were undoubtedly from his Guardian, a testament to their friendship that was somewhat of an unofficial tradition in the RSH. Meryl shared a similar mark on the inside of her vest in the form of one of Jay's handprints traced in permanent marker. An olive colored bandanna was slung around his neck, another symbol of a lost friendship.

"Thank you again Durin."

He nodded, turning back away.

"You're welcome Meryl."

"They'll be here soon. You'd better be there to meet them." He instructed, walking from the observation post without saying another word. Meryl quietly wondered if he would be alright.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The three Urals pulled through the rear gates of Sonnet about two hours after Estes had ordered them to move, driving down a road flanked by tattered American and German soldiers with weapons at the low ready. Colonel Estes had called ahead to Sonnet and briefed a Durin that was about ready to snap from all of the tension of the coming attack. The fact that Russians were coming into his town had the male Utahraptor a bit on edge, and he had rallied all of his assets in a show of force which Revedov noticed immediately as soon as he stopped the lead vehicle.

Meryl was waiting for them in the staging area, and almost as soon as Jay stepped down from the truck she rushed to him. Jay nearly got bowled over, but held his footing as she greeted him with an energetic push of the snout. The NCO didn't hesitate to throw his arms around her neck, listening to the satisfying rumble that echoed in the silence around him. Finally, his girl had found him again.....

"I'm glad you're safe." She spoke softly, enjoying the tight embrace for every second she could. Jay's absence had made evident a void that existed within her, and now that he had returned, that void was filled comfortably back to normal.

"Well, you can thank Revedov for returning me in good condition. He rescued me from the GRU." Jay answered, finally releasing her from his grasp and gesturing to the Colonel not ten feet away. Revedov clutched his weapon in an iron grip as Meryl's eyes swept over him. The Colonel smiled, knowing that he had reunited a great partnership. His breath left him as she broke away from Jay and approached him.

"Colonel Revedov, I owe you my thanks for bringing Jay back to me. I hope we can trust you to help us end this bloodshed together. I don't think you are one to give up the lives of your men, much less your own." Meryl's beautiful voice met his ears pleasantly for the first time in friendship, seeming to relieve all of the tension that still rested in his system.

"I assure you, we will put an end to this." He responded, daring to make eye contact with the huge female. Behind him the rest of the soldiers began to dismount, looking with curiosity at the other soldiers, once enemies, which they now joined.

"Well then, let's get started. We'll need every last bit of firepower you have if we're going to win this thing."

"What is your plan?" Revedov asked, marshalling Krenne over to him. The soldier listened as Meryl briefed him, drawing a makeshift sand table in the mud and snow below. It seemed solid to him. With a wave, orders were sent silently to his comrades. He finished his own planning, then made a quick radio call.

It only took about fifteen minutes for Russian Nationalists to take up position next to American troops, forgetting their past conflicts for the coming battle.

It was sure to not be a long wait at all....

"Ade, I want to know what you think." Jay called after her, following the three toed footprints that tracked away from the command building across the muddy ground.

"What do I think about what?" She turned, meeting his gaze as she watched the preparations take place throughout the village. Revedov's Spetsnaz had picked up torches, helping three German soldiers weld 'hedgehog' tank barriers while another set had taken up the burden of wrestling the several hundred pounds of metal into place.

"Revedov."

"I'm curious as to why you would like to know my opinion."

"What do you mean?" Jay asked, looking confused.

"My pack leader never asked for input, and when he did, it was never from us. I'm not even in yours."

"You're just as much a member of my pack as Meryl and Jericho. Just because you don't have a Guardian anymore doesn't mean that you aren't equal."

Ade just looked at him with an expression of surprise painted on her face. He could feel her mood change as apprehension crept forth from somewhere below. It seemed as if the female was silent for a full minute before speaking again, this time slower and more reserved.

"My pack leader was always very strict in the way we were to act and talk, even how we shared our limited space with each other. We didn't have input, nor did anyone but our Guardians heed it when we put it forth. He wasn't a part of the RSH, at least, he didn't have a Utahraptor to protect. It was him, the Lieutenant, that gave the order that exterminated my entire pack." She paused, taking in a deep breath before continuing. Jay saw tears of frustration running down the side of her snout, disappearing into the cold December air.

"He put us in a gully, right next to a service road where the Intel shop had caught wind of the Russians running fast recon patrols. They were supposedly running with light armor only, nothing that a rocket couldn't stop. We moved out with an ambush spot in mind, running quick in order to catch up with a picket element that left under surveillance from our sister pack. The LT put us in a gully, despite our previously planned location. He couldn't have picked a more terrible place to put us. We intended to take out the lead and rear element and force dismounts, at which point we'd target as many as possible and bug out. We informed the pack leader that we would not conduct the ambush there, and were moving up to scout our original position. Eventually, he gave up arguing, and allowed us to go. About then the convoy decided to show up, except it wasn't a light recon convoy. The Lieutenant didn't expect there to be a T-90 at the lead."

Jay didn't want to hear the conclusion to the story....

"That tank....they didn't have any trouble at all picking us out on the side of the road. The Russians opened up with the coax, and all three guardians went down almost immediately. Annie and Mike went down next, and then I got hit." Ade closed her eyes, trying to block out the sounds of machine gun fire that echoed behind the eyelids.

"And then they captured you?"

"Yes, the soldiers that also captured you captured me as well. They had a snatch team already in place."

Jay thought a minute on that last statement, putting two and two together after a few key facts.

"Sounds consistent with what happened to our Audwin at the beginning of the month. They took him and killed him, most likely what was going to happen to us before Revedov and his boys showed up. Sounds like Nymev probably had his hands in this, probably even wanted to do it himself."

"Nymev, as in Commander of Russian Ground Forces Nymev?" The female asked, confused.

"The one and only. He has quite a bit of human and Utahraptor blood on his hands already, and this just proves that he is out for even more."

"You mean he's playing the news with images of reduced hostilities yet he's launching an attack with two full elite brigades. Intelligent."

"Exactly. But you didn't answer my question about Revedov. Did you forget that he comes from the side that is responsible for the death of your pack, as well as countless others?"

Ade ducked her head for a moment, staring off at the woods outside of Sonnet. She looked back after choosing her words carefully.

"I trust him."

"Why?"

"Why do I trust Revedov? I trust him because he has taken the step in life that requires him to give up everything he has ever known. Everyone yearns for a significant act in their own life, but few actually pursue it."

"What do you mean?" Jay was intrigued.

"Revedov turned against his countrymen, possibly giving up everything he has ever known, and put his family in mortal danger. He's made his sacrifice. If he makes any more, he won't have anything to lose."

"I'm glad you trust him. He's as much a part of us now as any of us, and the GRU isn't going to discriminate between him OR us if they ever capture us again. We're too much of a thorn in Nymev's side for him to let us escape again."

Ade opened her mouth to say something but was cut short as two flares jetted up and over the trees to the east. They sent the village into an automatic scramble as soldiers ran for the far side with every weapon that they could possibly carry in tow.

The Russians had arrived.

++++++++++++

"Okay sports fans, we've got three BMPs near the main gate, and a BTR providing overwatch. About thirty soldiers moving towards the wall." Sergeant Maik called up, occupying the building below the tower and watching the Russians through his binoculars. Durin, Meryl, Jay, Ade, and Revedov watched from the rear observation buildings, waiting for the defenders to fire the first shot.

"Perimeter, this is Durin. You are clear to fire when ready. Be prepared for heavy armor behind these forward elements."

"Roger Durin, brace yourselves." Sergeant Maik answered, looking to the Russian named Krenne that stood next to him. The NCO was leery of sharing his fighting position with the newcomers, but they had already proven themselves to him just in the assistance with defense preparation. Their added firepower was sure to be an asset if the Russians really were coming in the strength that they were expected to be in.

"Ready to fire Comrade Sergeant." One of the RPG-wielding Russian Paratroopers reported, drawing a sight picture on the BTR that was sitting upon the hill. His comrades did the same, standing by to engage upon the American NCO's order.

"Fire!" Maik yelled, bringing up his M4 and putting four well aimed shots towards a Russian Machine gunner. The air seemed to be sucked out of the room as three Rocket Propelled Grenades were fired at once, connecting with the personnel carrier on the hill in a dazzling explosion. The vehicle's tires were blown out from underneath it and flames shot out from the viewports, sending the poor crew out in a Viking funeral. One of the BMPs was also struck just to the left of the turret, sending the vehicle up in a rainbow of exploding ammunition.

"Rearguard, how's it look on your end?" Durin asked, watching as Revedov's Spetsnaz and the VDV troops wreaked havoc on the point element. He caught a rather vivid glimpse as both a Russian and American machine gun opened up on the same unfortunate target. Bodies were shredded as rounds tore through soft tissue and bone.

"Dismounts, nearly a hundred of them, moving through the woods to the left. We're taking Spike and the rest of the Utahraptors to counter them." A female Utahraptor named Minnie responded, gunfire heard in the background of her communications. Everyone in the observation post could see the smoke starting to rise in the forest as hostilities began there as well.

"Thanks Minnie. All element leaders, keep comms open with me. As soon as their armor is eliminated, the Spetsnaz are going to move right and I want Rearguard to take a dozen troops and sweep through the village from the west."

"Roger Durin, we'll be waiting for the word to move."

"Colonel Revedov, the Russians are moving up two BTRs on our right flank." Shouted Jay as he scanned the southern end of the village with a set of binoculars, watching as the eight-wheeled troop carriers laid down suppressive fire with their 14.5mm cannons. Through the binoculars he also watched the Spetsnaz troops leapfrogging between buildings, keeping the potbellied personnel carriers from ramming through the city walls. One of the carriers was halted by a well-aimed RPG rocket that took out its front right tire, but it still continued to fire.

"Eagle, this is Gateguard, we need support. The Ultranationalists are moving more armor to our right flank, two BMP-2s and a T-72. They'll be through the walls in minutes if we can't take them out." A Russian voice reported from the forward battle line, broken intermittently as a shell from the main battle tank's main cannon destroyed the unoccupied church tower. The Russians definitely weren't taking any chances...

"I can't see those ones! They must be farther out." Redfield shouted over the roar of battle, dropping the binoculars next to the window and scooping up his M4. The NCO gave his helmet a reassuring pat and uncapped his aimpoint covers, making sure that the brightness of the red dot sight was set properly.

"I'm going too." Revedov announced, passing the radio handset off to a German soldier. The Colonel checked his own weapon, seeing brass in the chamber as well before falling in behind Jay.

Jay stopped before Meryl on his way out the door, patting the Raptoress on the side of her snout with his right hand.

"Luck."

"Luck." Meryl repeated, backing away from him. As Jay exited the room, the Raptoress gave Revedov a good luck nod. He returned it subtly so that only she could see, then ran out after Jay.

"We'll need some anti-tank weapons if we are going to do anything to that armor." Jay shouted, running across the street to the storage garage that served as a makeshift arms room. Once inside, they hit the stockpile like hungry animals, taking any heavy weapons that remained. One RPG and six rockets turned up, getting prepped for use by Revedov even before Jay could finish unpacking them.

"These should do." Revedov laughed, picking up one of the launchers and uncapping the telescopic sight, peering through it at an ammo box across the room. He slid one of the armor-piercing rockets into the tube and slung it over his back, looking to Jay as he popped another crate.

"Revedov, what is this?" He asked, pulling a metal tube from the box. It was painted green, and tiny Cyrillic letters with a resemblance to PNO were marked on the side as well. The Colonel studied it a bit before responding.

"The RPO-A Shmel. Be careful with it, and don't use it until I tell you." Was all that he had to say. Jay grabbed three of the RPG rockets and slung the Shmel over his back, holding his M4 with his right hand only.

"These should do."

With not even an afterthought, they set off once again, running along a vintage cobblestone street and out of the south side village entrance, which was partially blocked by a wall of concertina wire. They moved up the hill to the woods with weapons at the ready, hearing the creaking of tank treads even before they came into view. They looked as far as possible while still keeping the village in sight, maintaining security all the while.

"They're near the ditch!" Revedov called softly, pointing down at a BMP that sat idling below. Heavy thuds shook the trees as the 30mm cannon began drilling at their defensive positions, shredding wood and brick alike with hot rounds. Jay looked away quickly as one of the cannon shells scored a direct hit, blowing two of his allies apart.

Meanwhile, Revedov had his RPG in hand, settling the reticle on the armored personnel carrier's squat turret.

"Clear!"

With a pull of the trigger, the armor piercing high explosive rocket connected with the Russian vehicle, sending a jet of molten metal shooting into the crew compartment. Flesh and uniforms burned, and the shrieks of the dying crew echoed over the staccato cracks of gunfire like the worried cry of an infant.

Revedov ducked as a machine gun from the other APC tried to avenge its partner, nearly succeeding. The Colonel ran back to Jay's position, sliding another rocket into the RPG tube and removing the pin.

"Ha, I don't think they saw that one coming!" He shouted, bringing his AKM up to his shoulder. Redfield backed the Colonel up, looking through his aimpoint red dot on the M4 and sending a round right through the neck of a Russian soldier. The throatier reports of the Kalashnikov echoed in his right ear, dropping another Russian that was struggling to reload a crew-served weapon.

"Jay, get that second BMP." The Colonel yelled, lobbing a grenade towards the back of the vehicle. The egg did well to dislodge the infantry that were using the vehicle for cover with a wall of shrapnel, and Revedov was quick to shoot a soldier that was badly wounded by shrapnel to the gut. Redfield took the RPG from next to Revedov and drew his bead, pulling the trigger a moment later. The rocket sailed forth with a loud pop, striking home and causing similar results to Revedov's shot. A group of unlucky dismounts got caught in the middle of the blast, falling victim to flying pieces of the vehicle as well as airborne burning fuel. The results were ugly, and the two soldiers made quick work of their suffering with well aimed shots.

"Good hit. Any sign of the tank?" Revedov asked, taking the launcher and loading his last rocket, using the telescopic sight to scan for the Russian armor. A sound like a helicopter-sized hornet rang through their ears, followed by a thunderclap as a Russian sabot sliced through an entire line of trees. Wood chunks rained down on the two men as the round passed, and it didn't take them long at all to identify where that round had come from.

"Get out of here!" Revedov yelled, grabbing Jay by his body armor and throwing him on the other side of the embankment just as the autoloader in the T-72 finished its cycle. A heat round detonated where they had been a moment before, shooting dirt and saplings skyward with great fury.

"Good call." Jay laughed, taking the RPG from Revedov and popping up over the crest once more, drawing a bead right on the tank's turret. He loosed the rocket, watching as it sailed straight and true into the tank. A large explosion went off, but there was nothing but dust and smoke, no turret pop and no secondary explosions. Jay stuck his head up once again only to nearly get it taken off by the tank's coaxial machine gun, which suppressed the side of the hill a moment later.

"Shit, all that rocket did was detonate one of the plates." He reported to Revedov as he handed over the RPG. Revedov tried his hand, hitting the tank in the left skirt to little effect.

"Give me one of your rockets!" He yelled, catching one as Jay tossed it overhand to him. He readied it, launching yet another at the tank. It deflected off the armor, spinning up into the air before detonating.

"One more!"

"Clear!"

The last rocket detonated on the second road wheel, breaking the tread and stopping the NSO behemoth from moving anywhere. However, it didn't stop it from firing. A shell detonated against one of the perimeter buildings, knocking out two machine guns that had been suppressing the Russians against the far woodline. Both of their hearts sank when another T-72 emerged from the road behind its disabled comrade.

Jay heard a crackle over his radio, putting it off for interference until it spoke.

"Sonnet defenders, this is Ohio Two-Two. We are American soldiers that have been ordered to assist with the village defense. We are in a captured T-72, and will be on your position in a few seconds headed in from the west."

"Roger Ohio, come on in." Durin replied enthusiastically, glad that heavy firepower had finally showed up. Redfield and Revedov just stared in surprise as a T-72 came into view travelling at a high rate of speed, hitting an embankment and going airborne before settling with a ground-shaking crash. It screeched to a halt, and the heavy, chest pounding thud of the 125mm main cannon rocked the snow from the treetops. A sabot round streaked forth, hitting the disabled T-72 square in the turret and sending the reactive armor up in an explosion of gray dust. The effect was breathtaking as the main battle tank erupted.

Redfield and Revedov cheered, watching as the friendly tank moved back towards Sonnet's west entrance. The Russian T-72 moved as well, making an unexpected beeline for the east entrance, moving to get a clear shot on the friendlies that were posted there. It absorbed rocket after rocket, with layers of reactive armor only serving for an elaborate fireworks show.

The T-72 stopped right in front of the Spetsnaz defenses, pointing its main cannon up a narrow alley down which it could never hope to fit. Then, Redfield witnessed one of the worst things he had ever seen in the many months of fighting.

The tank fired its five inch cannon down an alleyway no bigger than a sidewalk, and the resulting pressure sucked the Sonnet defenders right out of the open doors. The tank was quick to use its coaxial machine gun on the dazed troops, ripping their bodies with gunfire that they were never able to avoid. Revedov gasped in horror as he saw Russian uniforms get ripped to bits, knowing that those were his men.

"Give me the Shmel." He motioned, waiting as Redfield handed over the green-colored weapon. Revedov prepped it to fire, lining the T-72 up through the telescopic sight. He snapped the trigger, watching as the rocket sailed forth and hit home. The entire village shook with the force of the explosion, and Redfield swore he felt the air sucked from his lungs from the concussion as the miniature fuel air explosive rocked him even more. A miniature mushroom cloud formed over the gate, followed by the death squeal as the T-72's turret burst forth from the hull. Buildings collapsed under the pressure, and everything seemed to stop.

"Redfield, Revedov, are you okay?" Meryl called, with Ade right behind her on the radio.

"Yeah, we're good."

"This is Minnie, the Russians are retreating, they're headed south by the looks of it. Shall we pursue?"

"Negative Rearguard, hold. Everyone regroup back at the observation building."

Affirmatives echoed in from the various elements, save for the forward defenders.

Redfield watched as Revedov frantically tried to reach anyone on the radio to no avail. His Spetsnaz, the VDV, all gone. Jay was about to console him when the ground started to rumble. He'd felt it like that only once before....

"Durin, cancel the regroup, they're back!"

"Roger Jay. All units, the Russians are back, continue the defense."

"Durin, Minnie, more Russian dismounts in the woods to the north. We're moving in."

"Jay, Ade and I are moving into the village. Russian troops are entering from the northeast corner."

"Durin, Learn, I've got visual on four HMMWVs moving up the main road from the west. They're friendlies!"

"Friendly forces in the vicinity of two-eight-six, this is gun truck company Powerhouse here with gun support!" The trucks called out, a welcome sound in all of the Sonnet Guard's ears. They pulled next to the T-72 and opened fire, laying waste to the dismounted infantry with raking .50 caliber fire. The truck with the Mk.19 automatic grenade launcher opened up with a fresh volley as well, hitting two BMPs and putting them out of action. One of the trucks took a well aimed thirty millimeter cannon strike from a BMP, shredding its aluminum armor.

All the radio traffic seemed to blend together as Russian tanks of all makes and models burst forth from the woodline to the east, firing their cannons into what remained of Sonnet, leveling buildings and destroying important parts of the village defense network. They didn't stop coming.....

"Redfield, Revedov, get back into the village, I don't want you out there." Durin called, watching as the two pulled back off the hilltop with hurried steps. They met the male below the observation building, moving to the opposite side of the street just as a tank shell destroyed the conveniently placed structure.

"This is Ohio two-two, I count more than fifteen NSO tanks and just as many APCs. We'll fire at them as long as we can, recommend that you abandon your positions and consolidate in the center of the city!"

Jay watched as Ade made a run for another building further down, taking a fall in the middle of the street. She recovered quickly, limping towards the opposing buildings. Jay watched her collapse to her knees just inside the door.

"Durin, this is Minnie, more tanks inbound through the northern forest, they'll be on you any...."

"Minnie? Come in goddamnit!"

"We've got more APCs from the South!" Revedov gasped, watching as more of the vehicles crested the hill, dispensing troops that quickly fanned out to tactical positions.

Redfield stopped where he was, looking around at the wall of armored vehicles surrounding Sonnet as they kept up their steel rain.

Looks like my luck has finally run out....

He would go and find Meryl, and put a bullet into the back of her head before they'd get their hands on her. He'd make sure she didn't realize he was going to do it.....

Out of nowhere, he noticed a ray of sunshine hitting the ground in front of him, appearing as if a sign from a sky that was filled with clouds. A harsh wind hit him along with a roar of noise, forcing his eyes skywards.

"Colonel Revedov, this is Dragoon Seven, looks like we showed up just in time." A voice came over the radio in straight Russian that Jay only understood in fragments, but it was as if the heavens had come alive with flying machines. Hinds and Havocs flew side by side, firing their specially-designed anti-tank rockets into the hulls of the heavy tanks, creating the fireworks show that only war could create. The roar of the explosions and the fast chop of attack helicopters was all that could be heard as the Nationalist troops answered the plea for help that Revedov had sent forth. The special combat helicopter squadron had been saved by his early warning, and now, wanted to repay the favor.

"Sonnet troops, this is CAS* wing Hightower. Colonel Estes said you might need a hand."

"Thank god! Hightower, be advised, Russian helicopters on station are friendly, I say again, they are friendly." Durin responded, the pilot on the other end not knowing that to whom he'd just spoken was the farthest thing from human.

"Roger Sonnet, prepare for danger-close run."

"Thanks Hightower. All elements, take cover."

The acknowledgements came down from those still alive, and they hunkered down to watch four A-10 Thunderbolts streak down from above the clouds. They roared overhead at full power, detecting two Shilka* AAA guns as they lit up their radar. Two of the A-10s took the opportunity to release a pair of radar-hunting shrikes, which burned straight at true towards their targets. The other two A-10s dropped into a strafe, slamming the front line of armor with their 30mm rotary cannons, filling the air with the sound of tearing fabric. Bombs rained in freefall, carving a swath of destruction that all but leveled the forest before them. Huge gouts of dirt and flame streaked skyward with each hit, taking the lives of New Soviet soldiers with them.

Jay just sat and watched, feeling very insignificant in the world as fire rained from the heavens.

It was no longer a fight, and the two men just stood and watched as the helicopters and planes racked up kill after kill.

The carnage was all over soon.....

+++++++++++++++

"Where is Ade?" Jay wondered, looking over to the Russian.

"She is helping the other soldiers get situated for the night. She hurt her ankle in that fall earlier, but she still refuses to sit down. "

"Colonel, I need you to make sure she is okay in a little while. If she hurt herself severely, it could be dangerous for her."

"I'll check on her in a bit." He responded with an affirming nod.

"So, why does Colonel Nymev insist on trying to end civilization as we know it?" Jay asked Revedov as he dug through his worn assault pack for an uneaten MRE. The NCO found a tuna fish one a moment later, tearing it open to reveal the blue vacuum pack that contained his meal.

"Number ten, my favorite." He laughed as he rummaged through the various contents of the meal, making a pile for what he wanted and another for what he didn't. It was the same process as thousands of times before.....

"I do not understand Colonel Nymev. He has always conducted things with murderous intent." The Colonel responded, eating his own meal slowly in the process.

"We noticed. It seemed as if every village we passed through had been wiped out. We thought it was you for a time."

"I don't believe in such nonsense. Having a family of my own, I could never carry out such a barbaric order." He justified, not surprised in the slightest by their thoughts. After all, he had been dead sent on killing them for the better part of the last six months. Meryl and Jay didn't bother to tell him how close he'd come.

Across the fire, Jay found the objective of his pursuit in a package of chocolate dairyshake powder. He propped his Camelbak up against Meryl's belly and filled the package to the line with cold water. After a bit of shaking, he brought the package up to Meryl's lips, tilting it back and pouring the contents into her mouth. The Raptoress eagerly took in the beverage, enjoying the sweet sensation that the powder brought on her taste buds. Jay laughed as she tried to get some of the flavoring out from underneath her tongue. Revedov watched the exchange, pondering just what drove them to share such a close bond...

"In any case Colonel, we are glad to have you on our side." Durin spoke after what seemed like several minutes of horseplay, instantly settling the mood back down.

He stared into the fire, not meeting anyone's gaze and being uncharacteristically unresponsive after answering the simple question. Words eventually found their way into his mouth from somewhere deep inside.

"I want to help end this conflict without the world coming to an end at the same time. I cannot accept being thought of by my daughter as being responsible for such misery. I am glad to be here amongst you."

"Colonel, I'm sorry about your soldiers. They died helping to protect us. We know it's hard to lose teammates, so if you need anything, don't be afraid to ask." Offered Meryl, making eye contact with the man a moment later. Revedov's ice blue eyes looked back, unsure of how to answer. She could see the fear and sorrow present there, but the Raptoress knew that he would keep it to himself.

They sat quietly for a time, eating and enjoying the warm heat coming from the fire. It was surreal, a fact which was noticed by everyone present.

"I have something to give to you Colonel. A gift" Durin spoke up, making contact with their own gazes. A fire burned in his eyes, one that no one present around the fire had ever seen.

"What is it?" Jay asked, placing his food to the side with curiosity.

"It is the greatest symbol of trust that the pair bond can share, one that follows you for the rest of your life. You'll fight with it on, sleep with it on...love with it on. It is you. It is one of the only gifts that we Utahraptors can give short of undying friendship." He muttered, getting to his feet and standing over the Colonel.

"Colonel Revedov, I offer this for you tonight as a symbol of my trust and of my thanks for your sacrifice to help us. On the memories of the lost friendships and lives cut short by this war, especially here. Sonnet is the one place you will find more suffering and pain tucked inside that you didn't think possible. I must warn you, if you accept, this could be the most painful thing you've ever had to endure both during and after the fact. Do you accept?"

Everyone looked both to Durin and the Colonel before standing and taking leave of them. They got the message that they should leave them in private.

"I accept." Revedov responded after a short pause, getting on his feet as well.

"Roll up your left sleeve." Durin commanded, eyeing the fire as he awaited the completion of the act.

"Done." The Colonel responded, uniform top set aside. Durin took a step forward and examined his bicep, carefully calculating his next move.

With blinding speed, the male lashed out with the claws on his right forepaw, catching the Colonel in just the right place. The slashes weren't terribly deep, but they bled almost immediately. Jay moved in to intervene, but Durin blocked his path with a slight shake of his head and an outstretched forepaw.

Revedov gasped in pain, collapsing to his knees with the injured arm in his opposite hand. Durin wasted no time, pulling a scalding rock from the fire and placing it carefully over each one of the triple slashes. Redfield didn't know how he endured the pain. Revedov could handle no more, shouting loudly in the small room. The Russian collapsed as the last cut was cauterized, freed by the sweet release of unconsciousness.

Jay rushed to the Colonel's side to inspect the damage as Durin dropped his hold on the scalding stone.

"He'll be fine Sergeant, do not worry. Meryl has need for you elsewhere. Go to Jen's quarters, they're the next building over from mine. Consider it yours for the evening." The male pretty much ordered him out. As Jay left, he saw only the Utahraptor standing over Revedov.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Meryl?" Jay called softly; quietly pushing closed the door to Jen's former quarters. The female didn't answer, and Jay didn't see her or sense her presence as he dropped his pack in the corner. He took the opportunity to look around, trying to get to know the Utahraptor that he had heard so much about through the various pictures arranged about.

Compared to Durin's room, this one was much more homey. Three candles burned on a desk in the corner, and other than that, only the fireplace lit the room. Jay wandered across to the desk, shedding his uniform top for comfort as the room temperature became apparent and throwing it across one of the few chairs. He drew himself closer to the pictures on the wall, impressed by their quality.

The first image that he saw was that of a pair of blue-gloved hands holding a small hatchling, fresh out of the egg from which she hatched. Inscribed on the bottom corner of the picture was writing in blue.

Jennifer, FUR1772544, 1:59PM.

He followed the line of pictures across, scooting over images of Jen through her adolescent years to ones taken more recently. The first one he paused on was dated 23 June, 2010. Jen and her Guardian stood waiting, arrayed in full combat gear in front of a Chinook helicopter. No doubt their first mission.

The pictures continued, along with some various action shots in which she or her Guardian were portrayed. He took note of the female's body structure, seeing it to be very similar to Meryl's save for a bit of a different striping pattern on the nose. He inhaled deeply as a nearly identical picture to the one he had of Meryl and himself presented itself closer to the end.

He turned away from the images, looking at more of them that sat in frames on the mantle. The NCO admired the enormous pad that had no doubt been the female's bed, decorated with crimson sheets and plenty of pillows. At least comfort was a high priority.

"Jay?" Meryl called from a different room amidst the sounds of splashing water. He followed the echo to a ramp that lead downwards, through which he could hear the female moving about.

"I'm here." He responded, pushing through a partially open door and into the steam of a sauna. He could see Meryl basking in the hot water, no doubt heated by the same geothermal energy that gave Liberator its power. Whomever had owned the house before the war had obviously possessed a great deal of money, and had used it to take full advantage of the hot spring. The female eyed him, laughing to herself with each soothing movement.

"Well, are you coming in or not?" She asked, sticking only her head above water. The look on her face was too much for Jay to refuse. Besides, several days without a shower was beginning to catch up with him....

"Patience is a virtue, my dear." He mockingly scolded, sliding his T-shirt up and over well-chiseled features. The boots and socks were thrown casually in one corner, and Meryl couldn't help but stare as he unbuckled his belt and slid the ACU pants to the floor. Jay ran a quick hand through his hair as he slid in, overwhelmed by the hot relief that the water offered against his cold, sore body. He felt a stroke of pain on his right ribs, thankfully not broken as he originally imagined, but instead bruised as confirmed by one of the Sonnet medics. Still, it pained the NCO greatly, a fact to which Meryl took notice.

"How does your chest feel?" Meryl asked him as Jay floated on his back in front of her, righting himself at the right moment to wrap his hands around her neck. He felt her shudder at the contact, regardless of the temperature of the water.

It had definitely been a long time for them both.

"It hurts like a son of a bitch, but I'll be okay."

"I nearly died of worry when I found out you'd been captured. Ask Learn, she had to stop me from tearing the countryside apart looking for you."

"I can only imagine. But, not to worry, I'm here now and we're together. That is all that matters to me." He laughed, picturing the Raptoress in her usual temperamental fit of rage. Heads were sure to roll......

"Jay, I need you to always be with me."

"And I always will be." Redfield answered, drawing circles on her cheeks with his right hand. The NCO pulled her closer as she moved in on him, locking the female into a tight hug. He could feel her odd pulse quicken under his grip, a normal reaction for the female Utahraptor.

"Jay, I need you."

"I'm here, don't worry."

"No, I mean I need you. I need you to lay with me."

"I need you as well, my dear. I know how you are when you're in season." Jay answered, feeling himself become hard under the water with anticipation.

"Jay, I'm not in season. I want you; I need you, right now."

"Well, can we at least wash first?" Jay laughed, an innocent smile present on his face.

"Of cou....." Meryl started to answer, but was cut off by human lips pressing against her own in a deep kiss. The different structure of her mouth was something to overcome in itself, but something about the way Jay pressed himself into her made it work. The female felt the human's tongue explore the inside of her mouth, and she brought her own to meet his, sharing a dance that felt natural as could be. Meryl's mouth was on fire with the feeling of her human mate's kiss, only now realizing how sensitive her mouth really was. She purred from deep within her belly, letting forth a low warble as Jay broke their kiss.

"It seems to me that you may need some help getting your back." He whispered into her ear, floating to her side and swinging a leg over like one would ride a horse. Jay ran his hands over the back of her neck and shoulders, rubbing the taut muscles underneath her skin. He felt the tension melt away underneath his touch, just as it always did. Ever so slowly he slid lower, watching her eager reactions as he teased, moving close before scooting back away. He continued this, watching as Meryl became even more frustrated as it continued. As he made his approach the next time, she shifted her weight so that his hand found her sex without tease.

"About time." She shuddered, rocking herself back onto his hand. Jay was happy to oblige, spreading her nether lips apart with two fingers and sliding a third inside. He went straight for the spot that he knew lay about four inches in, rubbing his already slick finger right where he knew it to be. He suppressed a laugh as the Utahraptor arched her back, squeezing her legs together and riding his middle finger. She clamped down on it with strong muscles that spasmed with each movement, lost in her world of pleasure.

It had been a long time.....

"Perhaps we should try out the bed?" She suggested, sliding herself off of his finger right before she reached the peak of pleasure. The Raptoress wanted to save herself for the real him this time.

"Sounds like an outstanding idea to me." Jay answered, looked into her deep yellow eyes. He fell under their hypnotic effect almost immediately, burning the image of her smile into his head. That was nearly enough to drive him over the edge just from sheer desire.

It didn't take Jay more than a few seconds to exit the pool with Meryl in tow, heading up the ramp dripping water from the hotspring. They dried off in front of the fire, wasting no time once they were finished.

Redfield flopped down onto the crimson mattress, laughing out loud as Meryl pounced atop of him.

Her cinnamon-leather scent was as intoxicating as always....

"Oh no you don't!" Jay laughed, forcing himself up at her and using his position to throw her off balance, rolling the Raptoress onto her back. She didn't put up a fight as he thrust his head between her legs, using his hands to spread apart her lips. She flinched as his tongue found its way inside, running along the length of her sex before being worked inside. Jay lapped on her, enjoying the sweet taste of her juices and the groans of pleasure that uttered from within. It was unlike Meryl to be unable to control herself like so. Jay gave her one good long draw before removing his tongue from her, instead crawling forward and running his manhood along her slick sex.

"Mmmm!" Meryl grunted as he penetrated her, pumping furiously into her with all of the strength in his loins. Her hotter-than-human body temperature enveloped him, amplified by her own slickness. Jay shifted his hips a bit, hitting her sweet spot with the head of his cock and bringing forth a roar of pleasure. Jay maintained his position, pumping slowly and deliberately so that his manhood massaged that super tender spot.

Meryl couldn't contain herself any longer, and a whimper found its way from her muzzle as a flowing climax triggered from within her. Jay was waiting for it, and immediately withdrew as soon as it hit.

Instead of continuing, Jay slid the head of his cock to the base of her tail, pressing it up to her tailhole. She uttered an eager squeak and a grunt as Jay slid himself in, going a bit slower to make up for her inexperience. She arched her back and roared again, digging her forepaw claws into his shoulders as he began to rock his hips inside of her. She moved her hips back and forth, basking in her world of star-filled ecstasy. Redfield laid down on her belly, pressing his ear up to it and listening to her frantic heartbeat as he buried himself to the hilt with each pump into her tailhole. He felt her muscles clinching down even tighter, and took the opportunity to recommence his fingering assault. Once more her sweet spot was targeted, and once more Meryl felt herself lose control of all higher brain function.

"Ahh!" She shouted as another orgasm hit, clinching down on Jay so snugly that he came as well. The Raptoress' eyes rolled back as she felt his hot cum fill her tailhole, seeing only the spots of light that exploded in her eyes.

She felt Jay collapse on top of her, completely exhausted. He pulled out a few seconds later, dripping several drops of seed on her belly. Jay was covered in her scent, and he loved it.

"You're going to need another bath." Meryl laughed, still trying to catch her breath.

"No thanks to you." He muttered, making it sound like sating her sexual appetite was an unwanted chore.

"Welcome back Jay."

"Thanks for the warm welcome, my love." He answered, placing a few more small kisses on her neck.

"Now, there is only one more thing that needs done."

+++++++++++++++++++++++

A few hours after he slipped into the realm of unconsciousness, Revedov stirred. The pain in his arm was ferocious, but he would most definitely survive based on the extent of the wound. He shifted his gaze only to see Durin standing over him.

"You have something now that not even my Guardian had the honor of sharing with me. It is the greatest gift I am able to give. The wound will not hurt you, but it is in such a way that will never disappear."

Revedov glanced at the wound, recoiling at the scent of melted flesh as well as the sight. He noticed an olive colored cravat tied around the male's hand, no doubt covering the intense burn from the scalding stone.

So, I'm not the only one coming out of this marked....

"What about your paw?"

"Don't worry, it will heal. I must share some mark as well. The weight of every one of my kind that you have seen die will always come to your mind when you look at this mark."

"What is held within yours?"

"I got the worse end of the bargain. In mine, I must remember all of those I've ever removed from this world."

The Utahraptor confided before turning and exiting the room. Revedov was left sitting where he was, disturbed only by Jay as he grabbed hot water for coffee.

Revedov didn't say anything as he made notice of the fresh cauterized claw marks that now shown on the American NCO's flesh.

To be continued......

Glossary of Terms-

T-72: The T-72 is a Russian main battle tank sporting a 125mm main cannon. It can be heavily modified with add on attachments such as more modern electronics, thermal scopes, countermeasures, and reactive armor (ERA). The fully modernized version in service with the Russian army is the T72M1.

ERA- Reactive Armor, basically an explosive charge sandwiched between two armor plates to be added onto the outside of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles to protect them from shaped charge and sabot rounds from tanks.

Sabot- Primary heavy armor killing tank round. Usually in the form of a 40mm dart flying nearly a mile a second, creates a vacuum inside the crew compartment of any vehicle struck. Also called a kinetic energy munition.

BMP- Russian infantry fighting vehicle, can transport an infantry squad and then back them up with cannon, smoke grenade launchers, and an anti-tank missile launcher. Variants include the BMP-1 with 73mm cannon, BMP-2 with 30mm chain gun cannon, and BMP-3 with 100mm cannon and 30mm coaxial machine gun.

Coaxial machine gun 'coax'- The coaxial machine gun is a weapon that is tied inline with the main cannon, used when the main cannon is not necessary or cannot be used due to target type.

Shilka-The Shilka is a self-propelled anti aircraft vehicle capable of shooting down low flying aircraft and helicopters. It is armed with four 23mm liquid-cooled cannons and a powerful search radar. Can be linked to form AAA (anti aircraft artillery) batteries. The Shilka is also effective against tanks and dismounted troops, able to lay down a devastating swath of fire. Technical designation ZSU-23-4 Shilka

RPO-A 'Shmel'- The RPO-A 'Shmel' is a man portable thermobaric (fuel-air) explosive, which uses an air-fuel mixture for devastating effects against whatever it is shot at. Russian troops compare the damage with that of a 122mm artillery shell. These weapons are thought to be responsible for fires that killed several during the Beslan Hostage Crisis.

RPG- Rocket Propelled Grenade- a shoulder fired weapon with telescopic sight. Can be used with a variety of rockets. Powerful, light, and cheap.

BTR- An eight wheeled armored personnel carrier armed with a 14.5mm machine gun in a turret. It is extremely similar to the US Stryker. Technical name BTR-80

Mi-24 Hind- World's fastest attack helicopter, devastating against ground targets both dismounted and mounted. Has a huge psychological impact against enemies. Fun Fact: the Hind (called the Gorbach or Krokadil in Russia) set the helicopter speed record, despite its size. The crew was entirely female.

CAS- Close Air Support, airstrikes called in for fire support when a ground unit comes into heavy enemy contact. Can be anything from rotary to fixed wing aircraft.
