Every strand of fur stood on end, as I padded carefully along the cold, hard ground, avoiding any possible threat to my safety. The frigid mountains were no place for a young kitsune like me. I was a red fox, born in the forest. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to be here. I was the only fox in my family that had the ability to hunt, because my Mom, and Dad had fell terribly ill. I needed to hunt to stay alive, and keep my family alive too.

The forest had been flooded from the rain, and there couldn't possibly be any prey left scurrying. I figured I would try the mountains, but I've had no luck at all. I like to stay positive though. That's what I'm known for, optimism. My parents always worried if I might be gay, but I'd always prove them wrong, when I'd see a pretty fox. My parents were always uncomfortable with gays, and they would hate to hear if I was, but I'm not.

I heard soft pawsteps approaching slowly from around the bend. I braced my self, because I recognized the scent... A Wolf. My claws unsheathed and my upper lip rose, showing my teeth. The reflection of its eyes could be seen. I was right in his vision. For several minutes we stood still, and silent, observing eachother. The wolf widened it's eyes, and got ready to pounce, when a black cat with with white on its belly, paws, and the tip of it's tail, dug its teeth into the wolf's back. It whined, then growled. He got ready to pounce again, but the pain from its wound kicked in, and it slowly walked away, whimpering. "What the hell?" I said. What was that cat thinking? "You should be grateful, you know." He holds up a shard of glass. "That wolf was holding this. You would've been a goner if it wasn't for me." The cat's voice was pretty high pitched, and happy for a grown man. "But why would you risk your life for a stranger, and, well, a fox? I could kill you, y'know." "I was hunting for food, when I saw you two getting ready to fight. Neither of you noticed me, so I was gonna watch. But then I saw the glass, and wanted to help." "You're fucking crazy!" "Am I?" He said, in a mysterious tone. "And what's with all the creepy responses?" "My name's Basil. Come with me." I sighed, and followed him. What else was I supposed to do? He just saved my life!

He led me through bushes, and took me so far into the forest, I had no idea where I was. He took me through one last bush, and we stood on a rock, on the edge of a cliff. Down below it, was a beautiful flower covered meadow. "C'mon!" He smiled. He took a leap of the cliff. I gasped. Damn, this cat is messed. But I can't let him die! I took a deep breath, then plunged myself after him. It was a short fall, because the cliff curved so that you could run down it. It felt amazing; the wind, the speed...The adrenaline. When we got back down, it took almost two minutes just to get my head to stop spinning. "Fun?" Basil chimed. It seemed like he was always smiling, except for when we first met. "Yeah." I couldn't lie. My body still was shaking from excitement. He nodded for me too follow him into the meadow. It felt nice on my paws to walk on flowers. They were all yellow ones, except for one single patch that contained blue, pink, and orange ones. Basil stopped on that patch, and sat down right in front of me. I sat down as well. For about two minutes, he stared directly into my eyes. It was so awkward. Suddenly, he leaned over, and kissed me, before I had time to decline.

This cat... He's... Nice.
