The Beginning Of It All-Part 5

On My Own

I don't know how long I slept, but it felt like ages.  For the longest time I simply wandered in my own mind.  I saw and experienced many things.  Most of which I had no memory of when I finally awakened.  Only a few bits and pieces had remained with me.  Once thing I remember clearly was I got a chance to look back on plenty of past events in my life and even got a few glimpses of some future ones.  The one thing that stuck with me through all of it was the face of a grey wolf.  I didn't know what it meant, but I knew it was something important.

The one encounter that stuck with me though was when I stood face to face with the spirit that had possessed me.  Or at least the form he had taken.  It was me, except with darker fur and where it was supposed to be white it was blood red.  It also had a pair of wings on it's back and a dragon like tail with a flame on the tip.  The thing that stuck out the most for me though were the glowing red eyes.  "Who are you?" I questioned it.  Hearing my voice echoing as if we were in an extremely large room.  "And where am I?"

"The simple answer is that you are wandering inside your own mind.  The other answer is a little more complicated, but to put it simply I am a very old spirit.  I had been sensing your power growing for a long while and felt today was the day to act."

"What the fuck happened and what the hell did you do to me?"  I growled, beginning to pace back and forth.

All it did was stand there coolly, following me with it's eyes.  "I have possessed you.  I have been looking for a body for a long while now to inhabit and yours was the perfect one."

I stopped my pacing and turned my head, glaring at it.  "But that doesn't explain why the hell you had to do it to me?  I'm sure you could have taken someone else or something else!  I have enough damn problems to deal with another one!"

It just began talking again in that cool voice.  "But this doesn't have to be something bad.  There is no way for me to leave you now and I don't mean you any harm."  It slowly began extending it's paw.  "If you accept me and my powers then you will gain many new abilities.  If you only try and fight me and those powers then you will only bring more harm to yourself.  You have nothing to loose and once you accept me I will go away.  The only remnants of my existence will be those powers and this form."

I only fully turned facing him and closed my eyes in deep thought, mumbling softly to myself as I tried to think out the options.  After not much time I opened them and looked it square in the face.  "So nothing bad will come out of me accepting you and your powers." Slowly beginning to walk towards it.

"No, except for the bands they have placed around your arms limits my powers.  You can still use a great deal of them, but the bands limit them a bit.  Only be careful when releasing them.  When unleashing my full powers you may not be able to control them.  But with time you should be able to."

At this point I was an arms length away from it, gazing into it's glowing eyes.  "So I guess I have basically nothing to loose and everything to gain then huh?" Speaking mostly to myself, slowly reaching out and grasping it's paw.  Beginning to chuckle softly and grin.  "Heh so why the hell not." As soon as I grasped it's paw everything went black and I thought I had made the wrong choice.

It ended up being about a week after everything happened.  The sun was just coming up over the trees sending it's golden rays out onto the world, casting my resting body in light and shadows.  The light fog of a late summer was parting it's way for the day.  Next to my bed was Jera fast asleep.  He had been watching over me the entire time.  But slowly my eyelids had begun to flutter as I came out of my wanderings.  As I slowly opened them and began to move around I realized how stiff I felt and how hungry I was as well.  I slowly sat up in bed, hearing several pops in my back and started rubbing my arms.  That's when I noticed the bands there and realized what had happened wasn't just a dream.

I slowly reached over and placed a paw on his shoulder.  As soon as I did that Jera began coming out of sleep.  "Naki?..."

"Hello Jera.  I'm awake and I'm alright."  He then began telling me what exactly had happened.  Although I left out the fact that I had already been filled in on it by the spirit itself, but I let him speak.

Not long after I got to go out walking for the first time in a while and went get something to eat....heh oh and did I eat.  That's when I started thinking that it would be about time to try out these new powers of mine.  So I made my way to the training ground.  Upon my arrival there I began questioning myself.  "Now how the hell do I get these to work?"  I tried everything I could, but finally realized that they couldn't be accessed unless I was in that other form.  However I did realize that my own powers seemed stronger as well.  "Ok then lets try this."  I closed my eyes and began to concentrate.  As I did I felt my body beginning to shift and a warmth beginning to climb it's way through my body.  As I opened my eyes I noticed that everything seemed to look sharper and I could see more clearly.  I began looking down at my body and noticing the changes in my physical appearance.  It looked exactly like that of the form the spirit had, right down to the flaming tail.  "Heh alright now let's test this out."

I was impressed how all my skills improved while in this form, along with the new powers that I had gained.  I was able to now bend fire to my will and also control gravity as well.  Heh then there was also the added bonus of being able to fly, which I used to it's full extent that day.  The only downside to that form is it was severely draining.  After a few hours of trying out my new powers I was exhausted and slowly made my way back to my home where I simply curled up on the floor by my bed and slept for another good while.

Later that morning I had woken up and knew exactly what I was going to do.  "Just gonna make sure I pack enough...." I grumbled, shuffling around my house to try and find everything.  "Now where in the world did that go?"  Then I spotted what I was looking for.  An old photo of my parents that I had always cherished.  After making sure that it was safely tucked away in my pack I put on some traveling clothe and slung my pack over my shoulder.  "Alright, now it's time to truly end all of this."  I turned around so my back was facing the door and took one last look at the place I had called home for so many years.  Remembering all of the good time and the very bad as well.  I didn't even bother turning around to open the door and simply reached for it with one of my paws.  However as I reached for it I stumbled backwards because the door was already opening and I fell back into someone.

Upon looking up I realized it was Jera.  "Hehe hey sorry bout that.  But what are you doing here?"  He took hold of my arms and helped me to my feet.

"I had a feeling you would be leaving this morning so I came by to say goodbye and also to bring you something." He reached around the side of the house and pulled out a staff.  "This is something that I have had for as long as I can remember and I want to give it to you."

What he handed to me took my breath away.  It was the staff that he had by his side always.  "But Jera I can't take this."

He shook his head and closed my paws around it.  "You may never come back here again and I never want you to forget this place."  His voice was beginning to break up a bit and I could see tears in his eyes.

"Oh Jera I could never forget this place.  I know one way or another I'll make it back here again someday.  And I'll never for get you either.  You've become a second father to me."  At that point tears began rolling down his cheeks and mine as well.  We embraced each other in a tight hug not knowing when I'd be able to come back again.

After that I had set out not knowing when I would return again or if I even would, but that was something I didn't try to think about.  From what I learned from Jera I knew about where to find the demon, but I figure there would always be someone along the way I can try and find out more information from.

I was on the road for several months.  Making sure to take plenty of time to train my skills, along with my new ones as well.  It didn't take me long to control them and change into my other from without even thinking about it.  Along the way I also met up with plenty of other warriors and one little fox in particular.  From the looks of him you wouldn't have expected much out of him, but he certainly gave me a run for my money.  I was able to continue to upgrade my skills with each person I had met.  Some even taught me new means of meditation so that I was able to link my body and mind more.  I had grown a lot since all those years ago when I first started my training.  I even had my 22nd birthday while I was out on my adventure.

But after several months and much journeying I had arrived at my destination.  It was the mouth of what looked like a giant cave/castle combined.  Even though I was preparing for this for a long time I was still incredibly nervous.  "Well...." Taking a deep breath and letting it out, grinning broadly.  "I'm here so no use worrying about it.  I know what I'm capable of and there's no doubt that I can destroy anything that comes in my path on my way through there."  I looked at Jera's staff and pressed it against my head, whispering.  "Give me the strength during all of this and help me remember my lessons."  Then chuckled and grinned some more thinking.  "Heh lets get this party started."  At that moment I concentrated and produced two curved daggers, placing them on my hips and produced a long blade at the end of the staff.  Taking one last look up at the sun and hoping it wouldn't be the last time.  I then stepped into the semi darkness and began when I hoped wasn't my final journey.
