#7 of After the war

Hi there.

My god, what a day. This chapter for some reason has made me feel so tired, but not in a way that makes me grumpy :) i mean in a way that i know i've done all that i can for it plot-wise. There may be a few grammatical errors and i will clear them up, but right now i'm a just happy with the story.

I really wanted to make this a good chapter, and, in my own opinion i think i have. I literally finished writing this chapter a couple of minutes before putting it up. So if it is bad, then i will correct it. But i feel happy with it and i hope you are to. Enjoy!

The only noise was that of the muffled sobs of the large dragon. The unrelenting stream of hurt and upset made the whole area feel dull and gray, as if the world to was mourning for the loss.

Spyro and Cynder were sitting next to one another, tails wrapped tightly around each others. They stood vigilant over Terra's weeping form as they held each other close. Spyro glanced to his side to see Cynder staring at him, they both shared the same thoughts. They were both thinking of how they would react if they lost each other, and it just made them pull the other closer.

There was a stop in the sobs and both Spyro and Cynder looked down at Terra. She no longer shook but instead she was disturbingly still. Spyro and Cynder quietly went up to her head and Cynder began to stroke it silently. Spryo however tried to say in a comforting voice.

"It's Ok, just let it all out"

As if on cue, there was a rasping gasp and the sobs began again. They stung Spyro deeply and he felt genuinely upset for her, she had lost everything and now they had just brought news of her mates death again, it was no wonder why she was upset and it pulled on his heart strings. Spyro felt a strange connection with her, it was more than just gratitude for her saving his life, he had felt it yesterday when she was happy because for some reason he had felt happy. Now there was only a black feeling inside of him, full of hurt for the old dragoness.

Just then, Terra moved slightly, uncovering her face. Her eyes were shining with tears and she looked up, only to see a familiar outline. Her eyes were blurred and she couldn't think straight, but the horns and face seemed convinced her for a crazy moment that the impossible had happened.

"Ignitus?... Iggy?..."

She mumbled slightly as she saw the faint features of her love standing above her. She reached out a paw to feel his face, but as her eyes cleared, the blurred face turned purple and she saw Spyro sympathetically staring down at her.

"No It's just me... I'm sorry"

Spyro said quietly, Terra let her paw drop to the ground again with a heavy thud and let let her head go limp. Cynder kept stroking her and she said quietly.

"It's alright Terra, me and Spryo are here for you"

Terra just stared blankly out and said meekly.

"My name... my name isn't Terra"

She gulped slightly as soon as she had said it, Both Spyro and Cynder were staring at her curiously now. Terra took a deep breath and said quietly.

"Me name is Ariel... So many things changed when I..."

She stopped and whimpered slightly as she thought about all the years of mental and physical torture she had endured. She took another shuddering breath and went on.

"I was so scared and so alone... It... It changed me. I pretended it was all a dream, I tried to forget my whole life. After I lost it all, I just wanted to be a different person. My scales just went green and..."

She stopped again as her words chocked on a fresh set of tears. She looked up at the two dragons again and she saw it again, she could she her mate but in Spyro's face. She reached out once more to stroke his face, Spyro just let her as she felt his cheek.

"You remind me so much of him..."

She said quietly as she ran her paws along her cheek. She focused clearly on his face and looked directly into his eyes, a set of shining blue eyes stared back at her. Suddenly, she found she couldn't stop staring, the eyes were almost.... no, they were the exact same as hers!

Spyro shifted uncomfortable as Ariel stared at him intently, Spyro glanced at Cynder which gave Ariel a perfect opportunity to stare at him even more.

"The horns!"

She suddenly exclaimed as she saw the shape, the jutting shape was identical to that of Ignitus. Spyro looked down at her anxiously, but instead of the weeping wreck of a few minutes ago, He saw a spark of hope inside Ariel.

"What about my horns?"

He asked quietly, But Ariel said in a voice which grew with excitement. A faint bubbled of hope grew inside her as she said in a shaky voice.

"Their the same! Your and His!"

Spyro was confused and a little concerned now, he looked at Ariels hopeful face and asked.

"Who's? Who's horns are the same as mine?"

"My mate!"

Areil said in a even more energetic voice, She knew it was crazy to think but still the growing feeling inside her was unrelenting and she didn't want to let go of it. Spyro glanced at Cynder for support, only to find her staring at his horns also, a look of shock spreading across her face.

"Spyro... your horns... they are almost the exact same as Ignitus's"

Cynder said as her own suspicions grew. Spyro realised what they were both suggesting and instantly said in a nervous voice.

"No, I can't be. There's no way..."

But even Spyro stopped to think about the red dragon, he had always been important to him and he had always looked up to him as a father figure. Spryo shook his head to clear his mind then looked at both Ariel and Cynder again, they were both staring at him.

"Your chest too! There really similar too!"

Cynder said, causing Spyro glance down at himself. The way it was shaped was similar, there were differences, but there was a defiant similarity to that of the red dragon. Deep down he knew that, actually, a part of him wanted to be his son. He looked back at Ariel again, and she was slowly getting to her feet. She was physically trembling with excitement,Spyro didn't know what to say, he just said dumbly.

"You really think that I'm..."

He began, but before he could finish his sentence of Ariel yelled in delight.

"My son!!"

Spyro was bowled over by the green dragoness as she leapt at him, pulling him into the tightest embrace he had ever felt. A large set of wings engulfed him and Ariel pressed him close to her chest.

"My son... Your not dead! Oh thank you! Thank you!"

She said as she clutched her child. For once in so many years, she felt so happy, she felt like yelling to the sky and for once she didn't feel the constant feeling of hurt and despair. Spyro couldn't quite believe it, he had always had a mother, he knew she wasn't his own but she was so important to him. But now he actually had his true mother and he didn't know what to make of it.

He was hesitant to do anything at first, scared of what it would mean to his adopted parents. But then he realised, this is what they would have wanted, to find his own kin. They loved him and he loved them in return, but he finally had his birth parents and that had been a desire of his for a long time now.

He felt like a child, but slowly he reached around and hugged Ariel back. He felt a shiver of delight run through Ariel and he smiled to himself.

"Mum?"

He said quietly as he began to come to terms with it all. However, he felt a paw begin to stroke him gently and a quiet voice said.

"I've got you... finally I've got you in my arms. Oh ancestors thank you"

Ariel gave him a small lick on the head and she laughed a little.

"I... I can't believe this. MY son saved the world!"

She stopped as she remembered the cost of it all though, Of Ignitus's sacrifice. But she looked down at Spyro and despite the pain she felt over the loss of Ignitus, she smiled once more. Spyro looked up and returned the grin, but then he glanced over to Cynder who was watching with a mixed expression. Spyro stretched out a wing towards her a said.

"Your part of this family to."

Cynder took a couple of hesitant steps forward till she stood next to Spyro. He leaned and licked her the the cheek softly before pulling her into the group hug. Spyro felt Cynder slowly wrap a wing around him and he said quietly.

"I love you Cynder..."

"I love you Spyro..."

The group fell silent and the sun began to peak out from behind a cloud, casting a golden ray over the scene.

Ignitus was running back and forth constantly, placing books here and there, desperate to get the job finished as quick as possible. He had repaired the bookcases and now he was busy placing books on the shelves; as useful as magic was, it wasn't the fastest method on its own.

Ignitus was hurriedly putting another set of books in their places when a old voice said aloud.

"It's not as easy as it looks, is it?"

Ignitus instantly knew who it was, he looked around to see the old chronicler standing by the visions pool, giving him a a amused look. Ignitus stopped what he was doing and looked over at him.

"What do you want? I'm almost done and I need to get on with this"

He said urgently, however the old chronicler just said.

"I think you would like to see this"

And he beckoned Ignitus over. The red dragon went over to the visions pool and looked in it, suddenly he forgot what he was doing and he stared intently at the scene below. They were all together, hugging. Ignitus felt a surge of happiness as he realised what had happened.

"They know of each other, it's quite a beautiful scene, isn't it?"

The old chronicler said, as he too watched the dragons below. Ignitus looked at him and asked.

"Why would you find this beautiful?"

The old chronicler just said in a rather matter of fact way.

"I have been watching this world for so many years, but if you forget the things in life which are precious, then you leave yourself an empty soul. I can understand love and I too relish in it's beauty, we may have differences in our love choices, but that does not mean one can't enjoy it when someone does get a happy ending once in a while."

Ignitus looked away from the old dragon and looked back down at the dragons below. He reached out to touch them again but pulled his paw away before he touched the water. The old Chronicler gave a small chuckle and said.

"I think I have kept you waiting long enough, I think that it's time that you got to see your mate again and not through a puddle."

Ignitus snapped to him and a happy expression came across his face.

"Now? But what about the books?"

The old chronicler just chuckled again and said.

"It would be cruel of me to keep you away from such an occasion to tidy some books, I may be old yet I am more than capable of tidying a couple of shelves. But first I need that necklace back"

As soon as he said it, the bright blue crystal necklace lazily floated from around Ignitus's neck and back around his own. Ignitus glanced down to see his scales turn back to their familiar red and he looked at the old chronicler with a gleam of adulterated joy.

"Thank you! Just thank you!"

The old chronicler just smiled back as a bright light began to shine from the crystal. Ignitus quickly asked as the light grew brighter.

"Wait! After we die all... will I still be able to see them, my family?"

The Old chronicler called back.

"Am I not standing here before you right now? Being the chronicler for millennia would be awfully dull if we were constantly alone for the whole time."

Ignitus let out a small sigh of relief, the light from the crystal was getting unbearable bright now and Ignitus could barely see. Suddenly he began to feel a slight gust of wind and the stone beneath him began to turn soft and he could feel grass under his paws. He heard the echo of a voice call out to him from a distant place.

"Enjoy your life! Live it to the full"

***********

All of a sudden the light stopped, he tried to take a step then tumbled to the floor. He slowly got to his feet as he adjusted to his surroundings, he glanced up and their he saw them. They were staring at him in disbelief and amazement. Ignitus made his way over to them all and he smiled at them all, Ariel slowly detached her self from the group and took a tentative step towards Him.

"Ignitus?... Iggy?... Is that you, is that really you?"

She asked quietly and Ignitus nodded and said in a tender voice back.

"Yes... it's me"

Ariel just looked blankly at him and she said.

"But... you... you were dead. This must be a dream, oh please may this not be a dream."

Ignitus just took another step and stared forward into there snouts were almost touching, he spoke softly, but his voice was full of excitement.

"This is how i'm not a dream"

He pressed his lips to hers and they just stood there, lips locked together. Ariel a small attempt to push the kiss further, slowly it became deeper as years and years of longing poured out of them. Together they just held it and slowly Ariel felt yet another wave of tears well up in her eyes, but this time, they were tears of pure joy.

Slowly they separated and broke the kiss, before staring into each others eyes once more. Ignitus said in a loving tone to her as they stared.

"Your are my angel, and I love you"

Ariel just leaned her head forward and so did Ignitus until their heads rested against each other. Ariel spoke in barely more than a whisper.

"I missed you so much, for so many years"

"Well, i'm here now, and I promise I will never leave you again."

Ignitus replied and saw a tear drop to the ground, he wasn't sure who's it was but he didn't really care. Slowly he lifted his head up to see the tearful face of his love beaming at him, he slowly looked around at Spyro and Cynder.

"You two make me so proud, in everything you do"

They just sat there and watched incredulously. Ignitus chuckled a bit at their expressions and he said in a playful voice.

"I understand the confusion you must be feeling right now... but can I please give my son and daughter-in-law a hug?"

They didn't need asking twice. As if on command the both came up to Ignitus and he wrapped his wings around both of them. Spyro was the first to say anything.

"Ignitus... dad?"

He stammered out, the whole situation unable to click in his head. Ignitus gave a tiny laugh replied in a merry voice.

"It's so good to hear you call me that. I am so happy for you. For both of you"

He let go of them slowly and looked down at the pair, he grinned broadly and said.

"You two are perfect together, I know that you two will not fail as a couple."

He watched as their tails wrapped around each others and they looked at each other, compassion in their eyes. Cynder was still staring into Spyro's eyes when she said simply.

"I know"

Ignitus kept watching and said in a slightly mischievous voice.

"To be honest I knew that you would fall for each other, Spyro has had a crush on you for years."

There was a small amount of laughter from everyone except Spyro, who just flushed a bright red through embarrassment. He looked at Ignitus with a look of exasperation as they laughed. But before he could say anything, he felt a nudged on his side. He looked around to see Cynder's smiling face, she gave another small giggle and said.

"Don't worry, I had a crush on you too"

Spyro's face softened and together they leaned in, giving each other a small kiss on each others lips before turning back to the large dragons before them. Ariel had shuffled next to Ignitus and she was resting her head on him, a look of pure bliss on her face. Ignitus too was over-whelmed by joy and wanted nothing more than to just lay there with them. He looked around at everyone and said.

"It's been quite a busy past few days, hasn't it? I don't think we need to head back to warfang just yet"

There was a small shuffle from Ariel and Ignitus looked down at her, She looked up at him dreamily and said.

"I think your right... I'd rather just stay here with you and my family. I think we'd all rather, I love you Iggy, so much"

She leaned forward and kissed him again. Spyro and Cynder followed suit, showing there compassion for each other yet again as the sun shone down on them all.

**********

The old Chronicler was staring down at the events below and a small smile was etched onto his face.

"Do you reckon they'll be ok?"

Called a second voice and he looked around to see a grey dragon slowly walking up to him. The old Chronicler leant forward and licked his cheek softly, his mate gave a small laugh as he did so. The grey dragon sat himself next to the old chronicler and slowly he reached his tail out to wrap around his. The Old chronicler grinned and looked back down at the scene below and said happily.

"I think they will be just fine"

I love a happy ending, (well i don't know if this really is an ending or not) But either way i'm happy now and that's a good thing in my mind.

I really wanted this to be a happy ending and i know it was a bit quick, but i really can't be asked correcting or adding to it right now. ** I think i might take a bit of a break from writing, though we'll leave that to debate :)**

Anyway i hope you had as much fun reading this as i had writing it, after all what's the use of a writer if he can't entertain?

As always comment, vote and have a good one! Also check out my other stories if you liked this one!! :)

Thanks for reading!

Till Next time
