The Beginning of it all-Part 1

As I had mentioned in one of my submissions I had worked on a short background story on my character.  Which granted I started it a good while ago now and I really ought to look over it again and tweak it a bit.

Beginnings

All you could smell was blood, sweat and the strong scent of burning flesh.  I had to constantly wipe my paw across my eyes to clear the blood and sweat from them, but even still there was plenty of smoke to blur my vision.  But it was hard to miss the huge obstacle still standing in front of me.  He was extremely weakened, not as much as me, but I had done my damage.

"Damn it!" I thought to myself, "What the hell do I have to do to take this thing down?!"

That's when I started looking at the bands around my arms and thinking it may be the only option I have left.  They say at times of great danger your life tends to flash before your eyes.  And when I think back on it now that's what must have happened, because for a brief moment everything seemed to slip away.  All the sounds and smells of battle began to seem distant to me and time itself seemed to stop.

The village I grew up in wasn't any different than any other.  Except you always thought yours looked the best and of course I did.  It also had it's little secrets just as every place tended to if you looked hard enough.  The village wasn't very big, but at least it had everything we needed.  There was a hill I had always loved to climb up on at nights.  I'd just stare out into the distance and sit there for hours by myself and think.  You could see for miles on really clear nights and it was magical.  There were also crystal clear lakes and streams that were great for fishing.  That's one thing that you never ran out of here and that was fish, though I never really did take a liking to it.  Of course the one thing everyone loved doing was taking a break from all the every day work and taking a dip in the cool waters.  Just laying there for hours on end as the day slipped by in cool relaxation.  Life was always hard with the work that had to be done, but it always paid off in the end.

But each village always seemed to have their dark secrets as well as their good and of course we had ours.  The cemetery is always a scary place to be no matter how you look at it.  It was off away from everything beautiful and happy.  It was also fairly deep into the forest so that it wouldn't be easily stumbled upon.  There was a path leading to it, but it was fairly overgrown with weeds and even the path itself always seemed to have a haunted look to it...still gives me chills just thinking about it.  The only times when we went there were the few times to visit the grave of a loved one or to bury one, but we never stayed long.  While you were there it was always cold, no matter how hot it was out or how bright the sun shined you would always feel cold there.  Some of the elders have said about an evil spirit slumbering there, but many didn't believe it....heh they probably should have.

Every day that went by was pretty much the same, which tended to make life there a little boring at times.  Of course that's why everyone learned to make their own fun to make each day different.  Just like the day I was born.  I was a healthy, normal looking pup, but it didn't take them long to realize that I was different.  Only a few days after I was born some strange occurrences would start happening around the house.  They were little things but they still raised an eyebrow.  Such as one time that I still can remember to this day is once when my mother had left the room to go and fetch something from the kitchen.  She had returned to find the entire back wall to the room missing.  This had of course brought some concern to her, but after several other incidents happened my parents thought it best to bring it up with the elders.  And that's basically when everything started.

The elders sat in a circle as the leader Jera scratched his head while in deep thought, finally breaking the silence, "So what most of us have been thinking since we heard about these events with the pup came up are true.  According to the records something like this has not appeared for several hundred years.  The thing..."

"But shouldn't we be worried about this?" Cut in Kanan.  He was always the hasty one, but that was also because he was the youngest of the elders.  "We haven't seen something like this for hundreds of years.  How do we know that this isn't a bad omen?"

"Because if you look here in the records." He was always the logical one.  Always tried to think things through and not make rash decisions.  It was easy to see why he was the leader. "You'll see nothing but good coming out of this each time it has happened.  Don't think for one second that this is a curse it's a blessing."

"He's right Kanan." That was Shini the only female elder, but she was also a very level headed one.  "Especially if we help to train the pup to use the powers right.  He'll have to go through a lot more training that all the others, but he will need it.  And I think as soon as he's able to we begin the training."

Silence falls around the small room again as Jera lowers his head, thinking once more.  Finally looking up after what seemed to be a lifetime and speaking, "You are correct.  We should begin the training of his powers as soon as we're able to.  Call for the messenger, we'll have to send a note to his parents calling them here to explain what has been going on with their son."

It didn't end up being until several years later that they were actually able to begin training.  Until then they just kept close eye on me and tried to help me along as best as they could and to help cover up my, "outbursts."
