Kate was walking home one evening a companioned by no one. "Man that was some party." She thought. The sunset air was cool as it wiped across her face and floated away. Kate's red-blond hair floated in the wind as she walked in her short jeans and blue shirt with tennis shoes.

She looked out past the sidewalk and noticed a sparkling lake. "Hmmm, a nice place to a rest." She thought. She smiled to herself and sat down at the bank. The water was clear and had fish swimming around in circles and arks. Their scales shimmered and glowed under the water, reflecting back light.

Kate watched the fish and then noticed the forest placed there. The forest looked like something out of a fairy tale, large, green, and mysterious. Kate felt the need to explore it then noticed something out of the corner of her eye. It looked like a marten but was too far away to tell, the only difference was it was transparent. It starred at her blankly then turned around; a white wisp followed the marten.

Kate got up; feeling like the marten wanted her to follow. She walked towards the forest in curiosity. The forest's trees looked smaller from the lake and when Kate walked in she looked up. The trees looked like they could touch the sky and talk with stars.

Inside the forest, it was cooler then inside the lake. Sunlight found cracks in the trees ranks and shined threw the trees, giving an obscure glow. Kate noticed a path going into the forest and she figured that is where the marten was headed. Leaves fell from the trees and fell to the ground without a sound.

Kate's icy blue eyes followed the trail ever onward, ending with a sharp right turn leading deeper into the majestic woods. Kate started to walk and felt that someone was watching her. She turned around and saw a shadow. "Who is there?" She said. The shadow then disappeared and Kate shrugged and continued on her journey.

She saw the large right turn and followed the path to see a small stream. The stream rushed down and over rocks, cascading over and back down. The stream moved back and went back into the lake that Kate sat at earlier. The sun started to set. "I better hurry before it gets dark." Mumbled Kate. She looked down at the obstacle that blocked her path.

To easy. She jumped from one rock to another, balancing on each one. She got to the last one and stumbled because of how slippery it was but got her balance back and jumped to the other side, continuing with the trail. The trail moved forward and Kate followed. The forest moved onward and vines blocker her way.

Kate noticed a tree and started to climb it, wanting to know what was beyond this forest. Kate jumped from one branch to another and noticed the vines bellow stopped. She climbed down and wiped the dirt off her clothes. The trail still moved forward and she followed.

The sun fell down ever more and a cool night air flowed through the forest, almost feeling like it brought the forest to life. The trail eventually came to the end and something was waiting for her.

It was the marten, standing with the same icy blue eyes as her. Kate did not know how to explain this. It was a spirit, a transparent mist. It stood on two feet, and walked toward a table created by vines of the forest. The table was very small but on it was a small heart pedant. The spirit walked toward Kate and Kate stood, frozen. The spirit then took a silver chain and connected it to the pedant and offered it to Kate.

Kate took the pendent and she felt that she would be connected to this pendent. She put on the pendant and the spirit then walked to her and touched the pendant with its finger, putting itself inside of it.

Kate felt strange; she started to feel warm inside the cool forest. Her nose stretched outward into a muzzle and fur spots started to form around her body. A tail jetted out of her jeans and ripped a hole into them while she felt something growing on her head. Kate reached up and felt ears. Her stomach fur then turned a light auburn, her fur on her feet, hands, and tail tip turned a dark color while her stomach turned a lighter color.

Kate felt her teeth jet out into fangs and her feet started to grow outward and claws replaced toenails. Her shirt unbuttoned but still covered up her. After this was all down she sat down and looked up at the night sky that replaced the sunset. A puddle was visible and Kate then looked down at the puddle. Her face was a martens.

She was not angry, in fact she was curious by the way she looked. She knew she could make a life like this. Kate looked down at the pendant and noticed a heart formed. The spirit changed her and gave her confidence. Kate felt at peace and started to head back to the stream, wondering how life would unfold.
