#6 of After the war

Hey everyone, Draco978

It has been a hectic week for me again, and i'm supposed to be on a holiday! Anyway, even though my computer died on me and was forced to delete everything on it (Which i tell you is very annoying indeed) I managed to write a chapter.

I don't feel like it's the best i could do, though to be fair I rarely feel that my stories are as good as they can be so i'd ask everyone to take this with a pinch of salt.

Anyway, i've gone on enough. As with all my stories.

Enjoy

The news was as brutal as a blow to the face. Terra just glided, stunned, her mind unable to process the information.

"It can't be... it can't be"

Terra said dumbly, an aching feeling growing in her as the truth set in. She just stared blankly at Cynder, as of to true and see that she was lying. Cynder was getting a little bit scared now, Terra just glided next to them slowing down and slowly beginning to lose altitude. Cynder called out to her, but no response came, something was very wrong with her.

Suddenly Terra's wings lost all strength and she plummeted towards the ground. She forgot about flying flying, the pain which grew inside her paralysing all thought and movement. The sound of rushing air was all that told her that something was happening. She heard a faint scream and she looked up at the two smaller dragons, slowly growing smaller by the second. She twisted around in mid-air, to see the ground rushing towards her instead.

Instinctively, her wings spread out to slow her decent to stop her from crashing into the ground, but it wasn't enough to make a smooth landing. She hit the ground hard, tumbling over herself as grass and mud got kicked up into the air. Eventually she came to rest, her face was wet with tears of anger and hurt. Terra punched the ground, she was trembling as a wave of pure rage came over her.

"Why now!! WHY NOW!!!!"

She screamed as shook, the anger and hurt of some many years finally spilling out of her. She looked up at the sky and screamed again.

"WHY ME?!?! WHY ME?!?! WHOEVER IS DOING THIS TO ME, FUCK YOU!!!!"

She roared in rage and smacked the ground again, she felt the warm trickle down her cheek and she went quiet for a little bit, her voice went horse and she said quietly.

"I lost him again... i've lost him again... I thought he was dead for so long, now I know that he died days before I could have found him?!!"

She quivered and clawed the ground, she couldn't understand why the world was so cruel to her. Why did everything always seem to attack and hurt her?

"Terra!"

Someone cried, Terra didn't move as Cynder ran up to her. Suddenly a pair of large emerald eyes came into view and she heard a panicked voice ask.

"Are you Ok? What happened?"

Terra just stared at her and said bluntly.

"He's dead... He died days before I could have found him. You said he sacrificed himself for you... why?"

Cynder was a little taken aback by this brashness, she tried to open her mouth to speak but Terra cut across her, her voice building up again.

"You said he died because of you two! Why didn't you save him?! WHY DIDN'T YOU SAVE HIM!?!"

Cynder began to back off as Terra got to her feet, her teeth bared and a murderous look in her eyes. She growled viscously at her and asked once more.

"I said... WHY DIDN'T YOU SAVE HIM!?! WHY DID YOU LET HIM DIE?!"

Terra began to advance towards her. Cynder didn't want to fight the dragoness, she just backed off more and more and said fearfully.

"I didn't let him die, Malefor..."

She began but Terra cut her off again, unable to listen to any explanation.

"BULLSHIT!!! You let him die! I should have let Torch kill both of you!"

Cynder was getting scared now, she got into a defensive stance and was ready for any attacks that would come her way. But another voice over-ruled both of them, Spyro landed by Cynder's side and said in a powerful voice.

"We didn't let him die! Without him, we would all be dead!"

Terra just looked at him with streaming eyes and said.

"I don't care! If we all died then I'd find him in the afterlife! You have just doomed me to a life time of loneliness you little brat!"

Spyro could see the hurt in her eyes, it was more than what a friend would feel, this ran deep. Terra growled again and said through shuddering sobs.

"You had to be the hero! You had to 'save' us! ALL YOU'VE DONE IS DESTROYED EVERYTHING FOR ME!!! I'LL KILL YOU MYSELF!!"

She roared and drunkenly swung at Spyro, He dodged then leapt at her, knocking her to the ground. Together Spyro and Cynder pinned her to the floor.

"GET OFF ME!!! GET OFF ME!!"

She screamed and she struggled against the dragons, but they just kept her pinned down. After a while she began to stop, her anger leaving her as silent tears poured constantly down her face. Terra mumbled to herself quietly.

"First my child and now my husband... why?"

There was a surge of realisation of hurt for Terra from both dragons as they understood her anger. They looked at each other and both knew how they would react if they lost one another. Spyro and Cynder let go of her and silently Terra curled up into a ball. She hid her head in her wings and just wept, the world had been so cruel to her for so many years, and now she just wanted to hide from it.

***********

There was a deafening roar from within the library, they sound would have been enough to terrify any living creature.

"NO!! IT CAN'T BE HER!!!"

Ignitus yelled, he couldn't watch the scene in the pool anymore. It was her! After so many years finally it was her!

"WHY DID I HAVE TO DIE NOW!!"

Ignitus roared, he span round and smacked his tail into a bookcase. The wood splintered and hundreds of books tumbled from their selves to the floor. He growled visciously again at he swipped at another set of shelves, the bookcase crumpled under the force the rage enduced swipe. The deafening sound of books smacking against the stone floor filled Ignitus's ears.

But Ignitus didn't care anymore, he looked up at the endless ceiling and a torrent of fire stream from his mouth. The room filled with an unbearable heat as Ignitus vented his frustration through fire.

He shut his mouth and a torrent of smoke poured out as his inner flame was quenched. His eyes were red and he glared around for something to unleash his anger at. But then a sense of rationality came over him, he felt what anger he had leave him and he slumped against a pillar. He buried his head in his hands and he just blankly sat there, staring into his paws.

"Why now?"

He mumbled as he sat, unable to make sense of what was going on any more.

"Why did she appear now? After i'm dead?"

He slowly got up and walked to the vision pool and looked down again, what he saw broke his heart. Ariel was lying on the ground, he heard her mumble.

"First my child and now my husband... why?"

Ignitus shook his head frantically and yelled at the pool.

"No! He's there! Spyro is there!! He's our son!! Why can't you see?!"

He pulled his head head from pool and made his way to the pillar again, he slumped against it again and stared at the endless space above him. He couldn't bare to see his family like this, he just wanted to be their with them. He opened his mouth to roar again but an old voice cut across him.

"This is quite a mess, you should really be looking after these books"

Ignitus jumped to his feet and span around to see the old chronicler looking at the books on the ground with a curious expression.

"What are you doing here?"

Ignitus said in a surprised voice, the old chronicler looked up at him slowly and said.

"Checking up on you... your job here is to protect and guard our knowledge, not wreck it"

The old chronicler looked back at the books and shook his head.

"You must control yourself, it is a privilege to be tasked with being the chronicler"

Ignitus just said back in a cutting voice.

"really? Is it a privilege to watch your family tear it's self apart? Is it really a privilege to watch them fight with them even knowing they are Mother and Son?"

Ignitus felt a burning anger within him, he stumbled back to the visions pool just to see Ariel curled up crying softly. He reached out to touch her but once more his finger was met by cold water. He growled again and yelled.

"It's not fair! Why can't they just see each other for who they are?"

He just stared at the pool as the vision rippled out. The old chronicler said quietly.

"You love them, don't you?"

Ignitus turned to him, an exasperated look on his face.

"Of course I do! Have you ever been a father for years without knowing, then only to realise in death? Then he finds his mother and doesn't even realise it! I can't bare them to be like this! I should have looked after them properly, I was a bad husband and a bad father. I'm a failure"

Ignitus let his head drop and he fell silent, his thoughts wrapped around his family on the world below. The old chronicler said once again.

"Ignitus, you are a good dragon. In the many years I was alive and then chronicler, I have met a few dragons with such nobility as yourself, and one of them was your son. I am willing to make an offer which I too was offered by my own predecessor"

Ignitus suddenly looked up, a spark of hope flitted through him.

"What? What offer?"

He asked desperately, the old chronicler just said in his same neutral tone

"I too had a similar problem when I first became chronicler, goodness this is stretching back many years. Anyway, my own mate was in trouble, times were a lot less accepting back then. He was under constant attack from the people of his home, I loved him also and I couldn't bare to see what I had left him be stricken away and the remainder of his life be crushed before me, simply for my relationship with him."

The old dragon trailed, Ignitus stared at the old dragon and he saw a glimpse of sadness, but then a happy smile grew on his face.

"The chronicler before me did something that only the power of a chronicler could do. He let me live again."

Ignitus's heart skipped a beat, he stammered out slightly as he began to feel a surge of excitement run through him.

"Y-Y-you mean I could... I could see them again, in real life?"

The old chronicler looked at him and smiled at the childish excitement beginning to run through him.

"Yes, I could not quite believe it either. But all life comes from the world, and we are all part of the world. When we die, are essences is still around, even when our body dies. We still exist, but a part of everything else, I will not go into detail as it would take a year, and I assume you wish to visit your family again."

Ignitus nodded frankily and said weakly

"Please... i'm begging you now, please make this happen"

The old Chronicler looked at him and said.

"Very well, but first you must complete a task, it is of grave importance to me"

Ignitus got to his feet and looked the chronicler in the eye. He said in a voice full of urgency.

"Anything! I'll do anything!"

The old chronicler smiled a little and said in a slightly amused voice.

"Good, your task is to clean up this mess. I hate an untidy place and you as the keeper of these books now should really look after them. I will return when you are done."

Their was a small flash of white light then the old chronicler was gone, leaving Ignitus on his own, the mess of hundreds of books lying scattered in front of him. Ignitus spent no time getting started, he glanced quickly at the pool again and said.

"I'm coming, just wait, i'm coming"

Before turning back to the mess of books before him.
