The harsh lands of the African plains had wounded Xan. With the blazing heat and the newly open wound that allowed his blood to run freely onto the ground he was feeling really weak. He glanced around his eyes sight blurry from the lose of blood. He saw something in the distance, something that seemed rather similar to him, almost like his old home few years ago, his home in which he had been exiled from for a crime that he had not commuted. It was a memory that had pained him for so long, he was betrayed and used during the ruling of a mighty king, a king named Kovu if he remembered correctly. He use to be with the Pride, until a distant shadow of his past decided to ruin what he worked so hard to gain..His son, Neru was the love of his life..and he lost him.

The harsh sun beat down upon Xan making him feel miserable, he had not had any food nor water in a few months, and he felt like he might not make it towards the strange rock that pointed high into the sky, his wound was to great. The wind carried the strange smell of fresh water towards his nose, he had never smelt anything so sweet before in his years. He slowly found the courage to continue onward, but his feet slowly gave way and he fell towards the ground and moaned softly coughing. "Ugh.." He moaned softly realizing what he had done to himself. It was hard being a rogue lion, having no lionesses to hunt for food, not having any cubs to take care of...what was a lions life alone?

He sighed softly and a memory flashed within him. He was much younger. He was in a dark cave licking wounds from a battle. He glanced around the darkened cave as a dark figure approached him, it was his father.

"You have betrayed me son.." His voice was deep and hansom, filled with an untamed beauty in which Xan himself inherited this from him of course, but his was softer and soother.

"Father, I had nothing to do with them," Xan tried to explain as he whimpered softly his ears were lowered.

Neru glanced at his mate, his eyes wide with fear. "Father listen to him," He tried to say but was cut off with a growl from his father.

"Enough," Said Kovu swaying his tail back and forth with aggravation. "I won't have a traitor in our Pride, specially if it insults the Kings of Old," He said.

"Father no!" Neru jumped in front of Xan growling slightly. "You can't do this," He declared.

"Don't disobey your father, and stop protecting him you fag," Kovu growled deeply as he glanced at Xan knowing that it was him who had turned his son's sexual preference around. "We don't need someone like you around here, betraying your own kind, get out...EXILE!" He shouted nearly roaring the word as he glared at the young lion.

Xan's eyes widened as he stood there. He was almost going to call Kovu his father..but now it all seemed meaningless now. He lowered his head and looked at Neru who had tears in his eyes. Neru darted off into the cave that Pride Rock had provided for the lions.

Xan slowly began to walk down the rock and looked upward at Kovu, seeing him slowly disappear. All the African mammals glared at him as they stood there in a row as they normally do when there was a meeting.

"Outsider!" Cried a antelope voice from the crowd.

"Exile!" Shouted a zebra as the zebra herd began to stamp their hooves.

Xan shook his head as he came back to reality. He felt a shadow over him that provided a bit of coolness from the blazing heat. His eyes opened slightly as he saw a larger figure of a male lion standing next to him, along with three or four lionesses.

"Is he a rogue?" Asked one of the lionesses seeing the wound on the young male lion's shoulder and gasped as she also had seen the scar that displayed across his left eye that ran down his neck.

"He's pretty ruffed up," Said the male lion. "Take him to the cave and lick his wounds, once he's up on his feet we'll ask him questions later," Said the male lion slowly crouching downward as one of the lionesses placed Xan on top of the male lion as they began to move towards the rock.

Xan was to weak to notice his surroundings, his breath was sooth, but the pain in his shoulder throbbed like needles from one of those plants that prick you if you were to touch them with your paw. He still heard voices around him. He slowly lifted his head up and shook his mane feeling someone licking his wounds clean. "Who..who's there?" He asked softly wincing in pain a little.

"Easy," Said a calming hansom voice of another male lion, not like the one that he heard the first time, this one was younger.

"Where am I?" Xan managed to say as he tried to get up on all fours but with out success.

"Your in Pride Rock, my father Kovu had found you nearly dead," said the younger male licking his wounds.

"Who are you?" Xan asked.

"My name is Neru," Said the young lion looking at the rogue lion that his father had found. For some odd reason the young lion looked oddly familiar to him.

Suddenly a warthog and what appeared to be a meerkat. "And who is this?" Asked the meerkat as he looked at the larger stranger lion with curious eyes.

"A rogue we found half dead in the savanna," Said Neru as he sighed. "For some reason he looks so familir, but I can't figure it out at the top of my head," He said.

"Neru," Came his father Kovu's voice.

"Yes father?" Asked Neru as he looked at his father.

"Step away from him, he might be dangerous," He said his emerald eyes glaring at the rogue lion. "He may sleep here for now, but once he's up and walking he has to sleep outside of the den for now, and until his wounds are completely healed, he must return to whence he came," Kovu said taking a deep breath.

"Father," Neru said with a tense voice. "He's not an outsider, he's not like Zira or Scar," He said taking a deep breath.

"Don't remind me of that name," Growled Kovu as his body tensed. "Simba may be long gone by now, if it were not for Simba scar would have destroyed these lands, and I would not be here," He said keeping his temper.

"Kovu, calm yourself," Came Kiara's voice from the back of the den. An elderly lioness stepped into the light looking at her mate. "You need to relax or you'll have another tempera tantrum," She said.

"Kiara, I know I'm old but I'm not that old," He said sighing. "I'm just worried, if this is a Rogue he could turn on us and try to kill me," He said.

"Let him sleep, he needs the rest to heal his body, I've sent out a lioness to hunt him some food, he appears that he has not eaten in a long time, then Neru will take him down to the watering hole in the morning when he feels like it," Said Kiara.

Kovu sighed. His mate could be so light hearted, if she saw a butterfly with a broken wing she'd take it in the den and nurse it back to health.

"Fine," Kovu said returning to his bed and fell on his stomach sighing. Kiara followed and laid next to him and closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Neru laid next to the young male lion and glanced towards his father and mother. He knew that his father did not take likely to strangers. "Hey, you still with us?" He asked the male lion.

"Yeah...kinda," Said Xan struggling for breath.

"What is your name?" Neru was curious, he saw the expression on the lion's face when he mentioned his name, as if some where in time he knew him once.

"My name is Xan," He said closing his eyes softly. The pain at last began to subside, but it hurt to much for him to even get up. Blackness came over him, and sleep rushed forward greeting him with open arms allowing him to dream slightly.

There was a fire in this dream. It blazed across the African plains. The animals scurried and fled for their lives and Xan was trapped between two large tree trunks that burnt brightly with an ember glow. He panted and tried to jump over them but the fire licked at his fur causing him to back away. The blazing light shown upon his brown fur and creamy underside as he looked around. Suddenly he heard a darker voice.

"My son, cowering before the flames," Said the voice as a tall male lion appeared in view. It was his father Daktari glare at him. "Your a fool thinking you can get to the King's son that way," He growled and rose a paw having one of his claws drag over his son's right eye, making sure that it dug deep enough that it went all the way to his neck.

Xan roared with agony as he felt the stinging pain of his fathers claw scrap his flesh. Blood trickled downward from his eye to his neck as he looked at him with one eye for he had to close the one that cut scraped.
