Part One: Pinky

None of my friends have visited me in my new place since the first day I moved in. That's not necesarily a bad thing though; means I get the chance to get my balloons out. My tiitchy little living room's almost so full with balloons I can hardly move, but I know I can always make room for more. I open a pack of 16"s that I got off the internet the other day, take one out and start to blow. I keep going till my balloon's got a little neck, then I stop and tie it off.

*Ding Dong*

Wow, it's a good thing I stopped when I did, who knows who that could be at the door?

"Just a minute!" I say, and only then do I remember that my place is full of massive balloons, even though I'm sitting right in the middle of them. Now I'm nervous. What if whoever that is comes in and discovers my secret? I try to get to the door, carefully climbing over the huge balloons, but then I trip...

*BANG!*

Oops... I think I may have blown my cover...

"Pinky?" I hear a familiar voice say. "It's me, Roxy."

Uh-oh.

"What was that loud noise?"

Awkward!

"N-noise?" I call, trying to hide the nerves in my voice. "W-what noise?"

"I heard a loud BANG coming from your flat."

"Uh.." I stutter nervously, trying to avoid the awkward situation of Roxy finding out my 'big secret'. I'll do or say anything to make sure that doesn't happen. "Anyway... what was it you wanted?" Dang, that sounds harsh.

She doesn't seem to notice. "I just wondered if you were gonna come out and hang today?"

"Yeah, sure," I say, relieved she doesn't want to come in. "I'll get my bag and... w-we can get outta here!"

_Get outta here?_I'm so nervous I'm saying literally anything.

I carefully walk over to the bedroom, which also happens to be full of massive balloons. I'm shaking a bit; partly because of the prospect of my secret getting out and partly because of the huge BANG. Unfortunately, shaking + being careful = not a good combination. I literally fall into thorugh the door, landing on a big red balloon.

*BANG!*

"There it was again!" Roxy calls from outside.

"There was what again?" I say, pretending to be completely oblivious.

"That BANG!"

I stop for a second, thinking how I'm going to cover this one up. "Pfft, you must be hearing things!" Again, an outright lie, but what the heck would she think?!

Still shaking, I grab my purple clutch that's hanging on the wardrobe door, then I try very carefully to get back to the front door without any 'accidents'. Fortunately, I'm lucky this time, and I make it to the door without stepping on any balloons.

I open the door a little way, and poke my head round, out of breath. "So..." I pant. "Where are we off to? Cafe?"

*BANG!*

Only then do I realise that my foot's digging into a 16 inch pink. I jump out of my skin.

"Now I know that wasn't just in my head!" Roxy says. "What's going on in there?"

"N-nothing! Come on, let's go!"

"Are you hiding something?"

Before I can say anything else, she pushes straight past me, mumbling, "I'm gonna find out what you're up to-". Then I hear a loud gasp, and I know my secret's out.

I walk back into the room after her. I'm shaking with nerves and my heart is racing. Roxy looks around the room with an amazed look on her face. I wait for what feels like forever for her to say something - anything - and then she finally says, "Oh...My..Wow..."

"Ok, I know what you're thinking..." I say, about to give what may be a completely unneccesary explaination as to why my flat's full of huge balloons.

"I'm thinking..." says Roxy, still a bit shocked.

Here it comes. "Pinky, you're a total freak!"

"I'm thinking you ought to be a bit more careful!" she laughs, picking up a peice of popped balloon from the floor.

"Heh. Yeah," I laugh nervously.

Roxy picks up a yellow balloon and starts batting it about. That makes me even more nervous.

"Hey, this is awesome!" she giggles.

"Y-you think so?" I ask in amazement, as if it's actually anything to be ashamed of.

"Totally! So what's the occasion?"

I take a deep breath. "Actually there isn't one. This is pretty much a normal day for me. I just like having balloons around because I love them."

She turns to me. "So... your flat's like this every single day?"

"Yeah. I mean, this lot has built up over the last couple of days or so."

"And you blow them all up yoursel?"

"Every single one."

"Woah."

I take a seat on my sofa next to her, moving the open bag of 16"s out the way. "So who else knows about this?" she asks me.

"No-one," I say. "I don't think anyone would understand."

"What's not to understand?"

"Well, I've never met anyone who loves balloons as much as I do," I say sadly.

Roxy gets that look in ner eyes like she's having a flashback or something.

"So... you haven't told anyone?" she asks.

"Didn't I just say that?" I say, confused.

"Yeah..." she says. "Anyway, I must go. The others'll be wondering where I am. You stay here and... have fun with your balloons. See ya later, Pinky!" Then she rushes out the door.

"Oh, OK..." I say, slightly confused. "Erm...Bye, Roxy."

As she closes the door behind her, I can't help wondering: does Roxy know something I don't?
